Title: Acid on face effects in AVP-R trailer
Post by: arnold23 on Aug 26, 2007, 05:13:18 PM
All of you guys have to agree that the acid-on-the-face in the new trailer is the best I have seen :o.  The only thing I can think of that would come close is Hudsons burn. This is the kinda stuff I have been looking forward to for a long long time.

I would prefer if it was even faster. Drake's face got showered with the stuff and yet it was making good progress in less than a second.

its not sadistic...now sadistic would be if someone poured 1 drop into each of his eyes and watched it melt...then they poured it into his ears and watch it melt through his skull and exentually into his brain...

People that think its' too sadistic with too much blood and gore shoulden't be fans of monster movies. Monsters + humans = deaths

It makes me wonder why you liked the first films...

The previous movies weren't gore fest you know. It had suspense and terror, it had violence, but it was all restrained. Psychological horror over physical horror.
It's probably just the effect of the trailer showing death after bloody death, but at this point, it seems kind of an over the top, cheap B-horror movie.

And I'm all for some blood and killing.
But slowly having your face being molten off by acid belongs more in a Saw-movie than an Alien/Predator film. In the previous movies, the effects off the blood weren't this severe.

I disagree with this one, after 8 movies in, I'm tired of the same skull shot, or tail impale. The deaths become repetitive.

You have to bring something new to the table, if its gore then so be it.

What, and have this franchise become the new Friday the 13th series?

Don't get me wrong, I ****ing love the trailer, and I'll be the first in line to buy a ticket and all the figures, but that death just rubs me the wrong way.

to be honest, people are seriously deluded if they think an AVP film can become great.

Entertainment? action? without a doubt. But anything other than that, then they should really just sign off now, and save the cash.

I'll say again, were 8 movies in, the 6th time weve seen aliens, and the 4th time we've seen predators. If the bros can break even, thats a massive pat on the back.

I think the trailer is great.
I want to see more of Wolf's whip though.

He seems like the most bad ass Predator we've seen yet.
But Jungle Hunter owns =P

That's the pizza dude from the script.

Yeah, its a pretty grisly demise but I don't think its over done to the point where I'd compare it to Friday the13th. Its really a bad set circumstances for that kid.

And it's that mentality from the audience that gets us shit movie. Supply meets demand, and what we want isn't good movies, we want utter bullshit because we don't think anybody could actually do something with the movies.

In the words of Samuel L. Jackson, f**k! THAT! SHIT!

As for the face melting, I thought it was awful. The effects were cheap and the acting was atrocious, and it lingered too long even for the film. Maybe if the effects were good and the guy could emote pain ...

If the effect bothers people that much now I can't wait to see how it looks when its finished.

Have to disagree with you on that one. The acid burning through the scull was great. As for the screaming and emotions keep in mind that the guy probably panicked like crazy taking away most motor functions. Not to mention that in the trailer we don't see the acid blasting on his face, all we see is it's coming from the the alien from the plasma shot and the next scene is the guy's face already half melted. He probably screamed when the acid hit hes face but than stopped due to the damage and all he could do is struggle with the pain.

I beleive you, but it would take a russian business man, and a bottle of whiskey to get any "half decent" director to touch this thing again, never mind a scott or cameron.

The potential is there, the people are not.

And lets not forget the actors, Mr Bale, would you like to see the script for Alien 5?

I also would like to add that Jim Cameron found the idea to team these species up as a huge mistake. He thought it would make the films very superficial and gimmicky like wolf man vs godzilla. I think it can be done but I can see where this mindset has arisen.
Title: Re: Acid on face effects in AVP-R trailer
Post by: SiL on Aug 27, 2007, 09:01:22 PM
Jim Cameron also dumbed the Aliens down for the mass audience and pretty much ignored a lot of things Alien set down because he didn't like it. Why should we care what he thinks?

Jim Cameron didn't dumb them down! He made them scary!!!!

And what did the first Alien lay down that Cameron ignored? He took the idea and ran with it. Alien without that cocoon scene with Dallas and Brett is left open to a lot of things.

Why do you think there's a Queen? Cameron said that the idea of egg morphing was too complex an idea to communicate to the general public so he simplified the life cycle.

But that scene was cut out. No where in the theatrical cut of Alien does it show anything about egg morphing. I don't blame Cameron for changing it either. He came up with something more interesting. To me at least.

It doesn't change the fact that he changed it because he thought his audience was going to be made of idiots who wouldn't be able to put 2 and 2 together.

I can enjoy aliens the movie a bit more than alien due to more content and some good characters imo but as for the alien itself I just feel like it was seriosly downgraded and really lost alot of the mystery it was in alien instead of a the perfect organism we get a alien insect.

as sil said avp can be done right if effort is given I belive avp2 on the pc is the best reprensentation of this. It has no timeline errors and respects both creatures equally from both of their source material. It has an nice storyline  if they can do this on a video game than they can do on the big screen.

And the Chest Burster scene in A1?

I agree, it is a little over the top gore, but not all A and P movies have to use the same formula.

We don't want these films to become; "gee tehy dont evr show teh gore" type of films, and I think they may be making up for the lack of gore in AVP1.

What always annoyed me was when scifi films would get softened down because kids like fictional elements: anything that has creatures or gadgets in it. There IS a such thing as adult fiction, so I am glad we have an R again, if not anything else.

if you want mystery don't make a sequel. if you make a sequel you have to explore the creature, taking away from its mystery. this is how it goes, if you want the alien from alien 1 watch the movie and imagine there would have never been a sequel.

actually theres alot of mystery left in the aliens...are they natural or did someone make them? do they have a homeworld and if so what is it like? how do queens come about if there arent any queen facehuggers? how do two hives co-exist in the same area while collecting hosts in the same area? how did the predators come across the aliens?
