Finally was able to pick up Covenant and Prometheus. Round $5 a piece and both blu.

Have Predator triple feature pack. Now trying to decide whether or not to get the Anthology or the 6 film collection (and give Prometheus and Covenant to my Dad).

It all depends on what you have and what you want. Did you get the prequels new or used? Do you like the box for the 6 film collection more? Etc.

I personally only buy new products, and I don't keep cases or artwork myself. I throw them out if I can't recycle them and just keep the discs in a large name brand wallet. But I know what you mean about your dad. I gave all of my dvd's to my folks when I switched to Blu-ray about 2 years ago.

Both prequels were used when bought them. One was from a Redbox. The other off ebay.

Usually I place all my movies in big binders. Easier way to store them.

I have the Alien Quadrilogy from 2003. Bought the Blu-Ray Anthology in 2011 and now waiting for 4K releases. I guess it's an endless cycle.

I feel your pain. Bought VHS, the first boxset back in 2003, the redone box set some years later and then the blu rays in 2011.
Not having any 4k content in the house as I don't have either screen nor player at the moment of writing. Blu is good enough for me though.

Owned DVDs (and VHS back in the day). Haven't bought Blu-ray but downloaded them off torrent if I am being honest.

DVDs I still have (but boxed away as I don't like shelf clutter)

ALIEN-1979- (2 Disc) Definitive Edition Steelbook with Egg design (released March 2007)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alien-Definitive-DVD/dp/B000M2E5DE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540109040&sr=8-1&keywords=alien+definitive+edition

ALIEN VS PREDATOR- 2004 (1 Disc)- Standard Alien Vs Predator cover (released March 2005)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alien-Predator-DVD-Sanaa-Lathan/dp/B0006IWQIK/ref=sr_1_5?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1540109150&sr=1-5&keywords=alien+vs+predator

AVP2 aka ALIENS VS PREDATOR-REQUIEM 2008 (2 Disc) Ultimate Hyper-combat Edition The UKs unrated-cut with cool PREDALIEN DVD cover design. (released May 2008)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aliens-Vs-Predator-Requiem-Ultimate/dp/B0013Z5B1O/ref=sr_1_7?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1540109254&sr=1-7&keywords=aliens+vs+predator+requiem
Side note I recall this home release getting positive reviews based on the making of features alone. Maybe cause you could actually see what was going on during creature suit rehearsals and ADI admitted this on their YouTube channel as well.

DVDs I owned but lost or gave away
ALIENS/PREDATOR (2 disc double feature)- Containing sneak peak of AVP bonus DVD- (released October 2004)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aliens-Predator-DVD-Sigourney-Weaver/dp/B00066KWHE/ref=sr_1_16?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1540109622&sr=1-16&keywords=aliens+predator
Side note. Yeah way to get people hyped up for an AVP movie. You put the violent classics together, a vision only realised in the ALIENS VS PREDATOR-2 (2002- PC Game)

PREDATOR 2 1990 (2 Disc Special Edition) (released April 2005)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Predator-Disc-Special-Danny-Glover/dp/B0007D5G4A/ref=sr_1_6?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1540109832&sr=1-6&keywords=predator+2
Informative "making of" with the Director and hilarious commentary. During the awkward sex scene where my pants got tighter, the Director informed us of the actress who worked in porn and went onto Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Also Gary Busey is hilarious in his attempts to spoof the plot of  PREDATOR 2 during the making of section.........which ironically became reality in THE PREDATOR (2018)

ALIEN 3 1992- (2 Disc Special Edition) which contains the infamous "Assembly Cut" and complete "making of" complete with a retrospective on ditched drafts and production hell, unused designs. set-building Interviews with H R Giger, fired Directors and David Giller (released April 2004)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alien-Directors-Cut-Disc-Special/dp/B0001B3YT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1540109974&sr=1-1&keywords=alien+3+assembly+cut

You might notice a dearth of box-sets. Basically I didn't want Alien Resurrection, PREDATORS or Prometheus in my collection.

Also it pains me to see the OCD of people who keep buying the same films over and over, like rocks fans who have all the albums and the Greatest Hits, only to do it all again with "The Ultimate Collection"just cause they added a few more tracks.

I personally own the Alien anthology, Prometheus, Covenant, and a steel book of the first 3 Predator films. All on blu ray.

That making-of is incomplete.  It's missing about 20 minutes restored to the Blu-ray version, along with 30-40 minutes of enhancement pods.

4K and Blu-ray's quality upgrade
rendered DVD completely obselete.

Yes.

The problem is that there are a lot of tv shows and movies that will never make it to bluray.
