CHAPTER 5: THE HEIRLOOM
The Wraiths quickly took cover in the adjacent hallway. Xenomorphs, even those castes that are considered weaker, would be a tough fight for even a Wraith. In the past twelve years much was learned from the Xenomorph XX121. Though one could say in the past seventy years since the xenomorph's initial discovery in 2122. However the earlier findings were scarce and later discoveries shed light on the fact that not all xenomorphs documented were of the same species.
The Runner or Scout, was generally accepted by Xenomophologists as the weaker variant of the Stage IV xenomorph. Their lighter frame, lighter carapace, and long spindly legs gives this xenomorph an overall speed advantage compared to their stronger counterparts. That said one wrong move from the Wraiths, the Runner would surely either attack them or worse... retreat and call for aid.
"Sir, it's a Scout. It appears to be alone, shall we proceed?" Nina turned to her commanding officer.
"We will take an alternate route. There is a staircase down this hallway. That should take us directly to my family's penthouse. Okay let's move out" Jin commanded.
Meanwhile back on the landing platform. Akuma and Youma carefully watched the Wraith's Bravo Team. Youma clicked her mandibles in anticipation. The heat signature of every oomen was almost too much, she wanted to engage. Akuma clicked his mandibles letting out a low drawn out growl. "Wait... Now is not the time for that..."
Akuma taps at his wrist computer. A small droid is propelled from his battery back. The droid cloaks before continuing its resonances. Akuma directs the droid to the penthouse. The yaut'ja siblings didn't come to Osaka to hunt. They came searching for something, something precious to only them. They had searched twenty-two museums and four penthouses from weapon collectors already. Little by little, they had recovered tiny tidbits of information that had led them to the Yutani Penthouse.
There through electronic eyes. Akuma saw it in all of its glory. The fabled Kainde-Amedha Slayer, a Yaut'ja sword forged less than 600 years ago from the tooth of a Xenomorph Empress. It is said that the sword had claimed the lives of over a thousand kainde amedha. The sword was most famously wielded by their father, Yokai. However it was lost during the mass hunts on Earth. It was here in Japan that Yokai took part in his last hunt. "Found father's sword," Akuma clicked his mandibles. Youma roars in excitement.
"What the heck was that?" One of the Wraiths asked. The Wraiths were put on edge. "Did yall hear that here?"
"Sinclaire, take us into the sky. Our position has been compromised" Lieutenant Chaolan orders.
"Sir, what about Alpha Team and Commander Yutani?" a Wraith grunt protested.
"They'll have to endure until we can find a safer extraction point," Choalan explains. That roar sounded familiar to him. It was during his time with the Imperial Marines on LV-602. Hot steaming Jungles. His platoon was sent in for a rescue mission. When they arrived there the marine platoon that needed rescuing were all killed. Some were skinned with their corpses left hanging from the trees. Others were found missing their spines and skulls. In the distance, Lee could hear that same roar bellowing in the distance. Almost as if IT was taunting them.
"What is it, sir?" the young Wraith asked.
"Nothing, just follow your orders" Choalan climbed aboard the Dropship. The young Wraith saluted before doing the same. Once everyone was aboard the dropship took back into the skies.
"The oomens have left..." Youma, directs her plasmacastor up. She clicks her mandibles in disappointment. Even if she did fire, the plasma bolt would alert their presence to the kainde amedha.
"There are still oomens left on the upper floors... they are getting close to the kainde amedha slayer... sister, we must hurry" Akuma shook Youma's shoulder.
"Grrrr... Fine. I hold a claim on the oomen hunting captain's skull..." Youma growled.
"As long as the Kainde Amedha Slayer is in my hands... Its value is worth more than an oomen trophy..." Akuma taps at his wrist computer to recall the droid.
Meanwhile... Jin and his team have now arrived at his family penthouse. The golden walls were illuminated by ground lights. The interior was a fusion of post-modern style and traditional Japanese style. On an amber wall was a collection of various different weapons from across the ages.
A stone knife from the Jomon period. An Ashigaru spear from the Heian period. Several Sengoku War Katana from the Azuchi-Momoyama period; they were all wielded by the Yutani's famous ancestor Mitsurugi. A Japanese WW-II Rifle. A Mid-21st century E-Rifle from the C/NAC-Japanese conflicts. Last but not least in the middle of the amber wall was a semi-transparent crystalline blade attached to a bonewhite handle carefully crafted to resemble a xenomorph chestburster.
"There it is... My ancestors prize from the great demon of Edo. Onikoroshi no ken" (Ogre Slaying Sword)
"Great Demon, sir?" Nina asked curiously.
"It's an old family legend. It was said that my ancestor had bested a great demon for this sword. I once thought it was a mere legend. But now..." Jin stares at the chestburster shaped handle. "I am now certain this blade came from an alien warrior of sorts."
Lieutenant Nina Williams didn't believe in Legends. She only believed in what she could see with her own eyes yet the way Commander Yutani spoke of the history of the blade. Almost convinced her to believe in the story as well. Jin sheathed the alien katana.
The black dropship soared past the penthouse windows. Nina, now free from her thoughts, exchanged a glance outside. "Lee?! I mean Lieutenant Chaolan, what are you doing?" Nina radioed.
"I am relocating to a new extraction point. Initial Landing Zone is compromised" Chaolan reported.
"Xenos?" Nina asked.
"Not quiet... I have a feeling something else is here, watching us. I'll explain later"
"Chaolan, where is the new extraction zone?" Jin radioed.
"North of your position in the adjacent skyscraper"
"Sir!" Nina protested. Her eyes widened as she saw three little dots appear on Commander Yutani's arm. "Sir, look out" Nina threw herself into her commanding officer. A blue flash of light burst through the tempered glass. Plasma fire scorched the metal plating of Nina's uniform.
"Williams! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine sir..." Nina replied with heavy breath.
"Wraiths, in position." Jin commanded.
The rest of that glass pane suddenly shatters. The glass fragments bouncing off something transparent. Briefly giving shape to a hulking humanoid figure. The light bends around the figure but given the low lighting of the room, made this harder to see. A pair of blades suddenly materialize from the shimmer.
"Aghhhhhhh!!!" One of the Wraiths screams. The two blades are now sticking out of his back. The young man was being lifted off of the ground by a good three feet. Whatever did this to him must have been at least 8 to 9 feet tall. Suddenly a clicking growl emanated from the shimmer. Yellow eyes flash out from it.
The Wraiths began opening fire on the shimmer. Jin and Nina quickly ran further into the penthouse. Youma used the dying Wraith Operative as a human shield. His body soaks up most of the bullets before being thrown towards his comrades.
"Where did it go?" Cpl. Sanders asked.
"Cpl Wilhelm?" Sergeant Masters asked.
"He is dead, Sgt" Sanders informs her.
"Let's rendezvous with Commander Yutani" Masters makes a hand gesture towards the back of the room.
Youma quickly ran outside onto the hooded balcony before turning towards the oomens. She clicked her mandibles aggressively, she hated being used as a distraction. She wanted to jump in there and get her blades bloody, the thought of rending the oomens got her excited but alas her brother was only interested in claiming the sword. She wanted the sword too but what better way to honor her father than to wreak havoc; to spill copious amounts of ooman blood?
Akuma smashes through the window leading into the master's bedroom. He had hoped to cut the oomans off from escaping. He smashes open the bedroom door. He briefly spots the oomens heading into the hallway. Akuma changes his biomask's vision to X-ray vision. He spots the humans as skeletons. They were heading towards the study. Akuma sprints down the hallway before making a right turn. He could hear the footsteps of his sister following behind him.
"Youma... switch your biomask's eyes... to see the hidden sight"
Youma's biomask switches to X-ray vision. She stops in her tracks as she points her plasmacastor towards the general direction of the oomans. Phssshk... she blasts a hole through the metal walls. The explosion rocked the room. The Wraiths were thrown from their feet from the explosion.
"Youma! That was reckless..." Akuma growled. He turns his vision downwards. The exoskeletal frames of the kainde amedha had grown more active. "Chit! Youma, retrieve father's sword at all costs!"
"Yes, brother!" Youma rapidly clicked her mandibles in excitement. She could tell this greatly annoyed her brother. He was always one for tactics and stealth. Youma preferred direct confrontations over carefully planned out fights.
The ground shook and the sounds of prey and predator screaming permeated the air. The xenomorphs turned their collective attention towards the general direction of the penthouse. The Queen sat on her resin throne. Her ovipositor was translucent and swollen. The rear end of the egg sack had just laid a fresh ovomorph. The ovomorph began to stretch out its root-like tendrils. Slowly it moved across the ground at a snail's pace. The Queen bellows to her children with a thunderous roar. The lower caste xenomorphs hissed in collective rage.
Masters and Sanders had finally caught up to Yutani and Williams. "What the heck was that thing? Why is it attacking us?" Sanders bellowed.
Jin stood back up. "We make a break for the extraction point, let's go!"
The Wraiths double time down the emergency stairway. Jin briefly turned his head back to the massive hole in the wall. Two pairs of three dots in a triangle formation danced across the adjacent wall. "Double Time it!" Nina demanded.
Jin spots an exit stairway. He kicks open the door, it flings open until the door smashes into the wall. "Down here!" he points down the stairway. The wraiths make it to the 20th floor. They were now in the catwalk bridge corridor. This corridor will lead them to Tower-2, where the Weyland Penthouse is located. If they are lucky and make it up three more floors, they should be able to rendezvous with Bravo Team.
"Seal the doors" Nina orders Sanders and Masters. Sanders pulls her blow torch and begins to seal the door closed. Nina takes a brief glance out the window. All she could see from down below was a sea of dark colored carapaces.
"Commander, we must move now!" Nina insisted.
"Right, Sanders, Masters. That's enough step away" Jin ordered.
The wraiths resume their trek towards Tower-2. The sealed double doors are then blasted open by plasma fire. The shockwave sent the Wraiths flying across the catwalk corridor. Youma roared. The commotion above drew the xenomorphs from down in the street's attention upwards. Like a swarm of angry hornets they scattered in all directions aimlessly. The xenomorphs are now scaling the walls of both towers like a swarm of angry ants.
Jin pulls out a grenade, he bites on the pin. He pulls the grenade away from his face before tossing it down the corridor. The grenade bounces off the floor, it now flies in the air. Youma is pulled out of the doorway by her brother. The grenade as if in slow motion began to bubble up, the discolored surface began to glow a bright hot white glow. FLASH! BOOM!
The sound of pulse rifles echoed in the halls of the second tower. Sanders, Williams, Yutani, and Masters were blasting away at a small horde of xenomorphs that managed to follow them. Fortunately they were of the smaller weaker castes. Born from street roaming animals. The weaker xenomorphs began to retreat. Jin directed his black op soldiers up to the next floor. He tosses a second grenade down the stairwell before quickly slamming the metal door closed. BOOM!

Youma growled as she kept firing away at the kainde amedha. Their carapaces burst open showering the environment in their burning gold colored acidic blood. Akuma on the other hand was scanning Tower-2 of the oomens. He spots their skeletons moving up to the 19th floor. They were out of range for his plasmacastor. At this rate they'll lose their family heirloom. Then Akuma zoomed out his biomask's electronic eyes to the whole of Tower-2. He spotted another pack of skeletons standing guard around what appeared to be an oomen ship.
"Youma... Retreat... back to ship!" Akuma clicked his mandibles furiously.
"Flee?!" Youma roared.
"The oomens are fleeing! Now quickly... back to ship... else the stronger and smarter kainde amedha will appear!" Akuma gruttaled.
"Yes brother" Youma lowered her head in defeat.
The two yautja siblings bolted down the corridor. Akuma's X-ray vision picks up on multiple kainde amedha converging on their location from the lower levels.

Jin and his team managed to reach the extraction point. Bravo Team greets them. They are surprised to see one of their members was missing. Jin gave the Bravo team commander a glance before boarding the dropship. The bay door closes as the dropship slowly lifts off the ground.
