So I've been obsessed with rhinos recently, and I was very excited to come across news that Colossal Biosciences is going to help conserve the Sumatran Rhino species! Leonardo Dicaprio's wildlife organization Re:Wild is partnering in the efforts as well! There are around only 50 Sumatran left, so any help is greatly appreciated!! I really hope Colossal also helps put with the Javan Rhino species, as they also only have around 50 individuals left!

Sumatran Rhinos have The Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary, while Javan Rhinos don't have their own sanctuary. I'm guessing that might be a reason why Sumatran efforts have been announced but not Javan efforts. Then there is the fact that Sumatran's are the closest living relatives to the extinct Woolly Rhino, which probably interests Colossal.

Do we think Sumatran and Javan's can make it? There have been 3 Sunatran births at the Sanctuary in the last couple years, which is helpful. Do we think Colossal will help Javan Rhino conservation efforts too? The Colossal Foundation site does mention Javan Rhinos, so I hope that is a sign that they are considering so!

I agree endangered species is such a vital subject! Regarding the decline of the rhinoceros I must also add that another species is declining because of them; the rhinoceros stomach botfly (Gyrostigma rhinocerontis). It is a parasite of the white and black rhinoceros, as such it is dependent on it. So the declining rhinoceros population leads to a declining rhinoceros botfly population. Very sad stuff!

Xenotaris

I wish there was a more efficient way to save the endanger species.

Slutty Badger

Well, might as well advocate for the mustelids. Save the sea otter.
