I wouldn't say I just noticed it, but on my latest rewatch of Predator it kind of stood out how like half of that movie is out of focus.

You could never get away with that these days.

OK no something I did just notice is that one of the editors of Predator also edited Commando, which explains why Anytime beating the shit out of Dutch has the same editing rhythm as Matrix and Bennet laying into each other in Commando.

Hahahaha I drink Off-brand Root Beer, Cream Soda, and Strawberry Soda!

No idea what relevance that has to the thread, or why corporate loyalty is important with sugar water.

I just wanted to be part of the conversation

Kind of in a similar vein- I remember watching Predator on telly for the first time and wondering what this fake arse shit was when you could see all of Carl Weathers arm when it had just got blown off.

I really want to see that open matte version some day. I always got confused reading about the errors when I could never see them.

I saw a version of Reanimator that was like that too. Where you could clearly see Dr Hill's shoulders that should have been cropped out after his head got chopped off.

AH YES. So it's not just me. I remember thinking this as well.

Reminds me of this whole trend I see on Netflix shows where they seem to 'force' the anamorphic blur. I could be wrong about whether it's originally filmed like (via the lens) that or done in post, but it's bloody annoying seeing the top and bottom mostly blurred in their shows.

Almost all of it is in post.

I like softness at the edge of an image, it suits film. But Predator is just completely out a lot of the shots.

Gives me a headache when there's too much of it.

The Netflix softness reminds me of those old `screener' pirate videos which had some copyright watermark blurred out.

Pseudo-naturalist poseur cinéma-vérité is rarely great news, and the common Netflix idiosyncracies are not exception.
