Quote from: BigDaddyJohn on Sep 18, 2024, 07:03:54 PMYeah an alien would still try and kill you if he can. A predator could not be interested by you at all.
This might sound stupid, but I would love for a Predator movie where man is being hunted, but specific targets and whoever "shoots back." Some of the Predators fight over who's killing who. Back at the ship, our heroes find a human at the helm, decked out in human-size Predator gear. He survived a hunt, and now he helps a clan hunt "the bad guys" instead of "just anyone." That'd be an interesting plot twist, no?

I wouldn't want to see that in a movie honestly.

The Alien franchise is my favorite.

I was obsessed with the original movie as a kid and remember trying to get my parents to buy me the 18' Alien figure when I found it on the shelf at Gold Circle (for the short time it was available) But they thought it was too expensive. lol Probably $20 at the time.

Ooooh, I didn't realize the poll was this close! Last time I checked—years ago—Alien was ahead by a few dozen votes. Now I'm wondering if Predator: Badlands might give the Yautja the boost they need to take the crown and finally humble us Alien fans. lol

Then again... Alien: Earth might extend the lead for us Alien fans :3

Predator would be dusty af if not for Alien, so I'm not sure if I'm ever going to be humbled on this specific topic lol. When one of the two allows the continued existence of the other, it automatically becomes the defacto best imo.

I can't decide I like both the Xenomorph and the Yautja

Uff, I don't know... Would the Predator franchise have truly thrived if Alien didn't exist and Predator 2 had been more successful? Don't get me wrong, I'm an Alien fan through and through, but saying Predator only survived because of Alien feels a bit disrespectful to what the franchise brought to the table on its own.

Even if AVP never existed, I'm pretty sure the Predator franchise would've been resurrected at some point. It's too iconic to stay buried, especially when it was a big action movie in the late 80's.

Nah. Predator has more merit than it got at the time, but Dark Horse, and the vidyagaems kept it on life support, no doubt.

Nah, come on now. Predator had one of the most memorable creature designs in sci-fi history. That alone gave it staying power. And imagine if Arnold had come back for Predator 2, teaming up with Danny Glover. That kind of star power, combined with the gritty urban setting and the continuation of the Yautja lore, could've propelled the franchise to even greater heights. It would have been the Aliens of its franchise.

If that had happened, I seriously doubt the franchise would've been put on life support. It could've built real momentum instead of relying on crossovers to stay relevant.

Arnie didn't come back though, and as undeniably cool as predator is, the crossover is why it's still here and getting new releases today. I don't think that's really debatable honestly.

I'm just saying, what if he had come back? And honestly, I think the Predator design is every bit as iconic as Giger's legendary creation. God bless that beautiful man.

Now imagine the roles were reversed. What if Alien was the one on life support, and it was the Predator carrying the franchise? How would we feel seeing our beloved Xenomorph treated like a sidekick or dragged around on a leash? That's why I think both franchises deserve respect on their own terms.

Hell, depending on how Badlands goes, it might be the one leading the charge rather than the Alien franchise itself.

I get what you're saying about fairness and what things deserve but how things went in reality is how I've described them and it seems you're fully aware of that.

Having said that, as f**king excellent as the first predator design and film are, I don't think either crawled inside the collective psyche as much as Gigers Valkyrie did til after the water was already muddied with crossovers.
