Just a simple question what DVDs do you have for alien, avp, and predator franchises?

Alien 1999 release

Avp alien vs predator 2005 release

Avpr alien vs predator unrated 2008 release

I have both Predator films and The Alien Triple Pack. The only one I am missing is Resurrection. Which isn't saying much. Although I plan on updating my Alien films when that Blu-Ray package gets released!  8)

Wow, lucky you. Was it a direct sign, like you personally asking for him to sign the DVD set at a sci-fi convention or something. Or did you buy the DVD set new or second-hand with Michel's signing already there?

I didn't realize any of the Alien films had gotten VCD releases. Also, the Aliens TV version, is that a bootleg, or just a very obscure release?

I've got also four-pack exclusive collection of VHS, released in my country many years ago. These were my first movies with Aliens...

VCDs woulda been all throughout south east Asia, though I only picked Alien before the DVDs came out  cos it was cheap.  Resurrection was an Academy screener I got in Malaysia.  Pretty sure you can still get VCDs of all four Alien flicks and AvP.

The Aliens SE TV version is just the broadcast version that was on TV in 1992.  It's essentially the same as the Special Edition release, with a couple of swears edited out and the pulse rifle/ flamethrower goof on the dropship fixed.  Which somehow didn't make it to the later DVD release.

I'm french, so it's for Region B / Zone 2.

All these blu-ray were released in the beginning of july 2010.

Predator is the Ultimate Hunter Edition you can found since the beginning of july 2010. Only the covers are different. And the blu-ray is sell with the simple version dvd of Predator in the box.

Predator 2 is the same as the Region free. Same thing, only the covers are different, and there is the simple version dvd of Predator 2 in the box.

AvP is the basic blu-ray with unrated and theater versions. Same thing with different covers and the simple version dvd of AvP in the box.

AvP-R is the basic blu-ray, with different covers and the simple version dvd of AvP-R in the box.

I can post some pics of the inside of them, if you want.

Predator 2 is the same as the Region free. Same thing, only the covers are different, and there is the simple version dvd of Predator 2 in the box.

AvP is the basic blu-ray with unrated and theater versions. Same thing with different covers and the simple version dvd of AvP in the box.

AvP-R is the basic blu-ray, with different covers and the simple version dvd of AvP-R in the box.

I can post some pics of the inside of them, if you want.

So far I have normal DVDs of all the flicks. But I plan on upgrading to the Alien: Anthology. It has two versions of each film/and all those extras! Looking forward to watching the Workprint of Alien3 which I haven't seen yet.

Also plan on upgrading to a Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition/Predator 2 (2-pack) I seen at Best Buy.

i have a doubt, this pack have three dvds of avpr, why? one contains the movie and the other the extras, but what have the third disk?

I think that set was released before Predators was released on home video.  I remember seeing it and wanting it for its fancy box, but I didn't get it cuz I already had all of its contents.  I felt weird double dipping getting them all again on blu-ray  :-\

I want and plan to get the blu-ray Alien Anthology cuz i... want it... and I've heard lots of good things about the blu-ray quality. I'd also like Predator on blu-ray just cuz... same with the AvP movies. But i don't really NEED them.

Before that i had the "standard" 4 Alien movies on dvd (the legacy ones) same with the Predator movies. I gave them to my friend who is also A-P fan :)

I got the Alien Quadrilogy 'Alien Head' (DVD)
and the Alien/AVP/Predator - The Ultimate Annihilation (Blu-ray)

Then I got the both AVP movies on single dvds, tho they are the "unrated" and "extended" versions.

Got the Alien head cus it's awesome and the annihilation because all the movies in blu ray where in it.
(But I don't own a blu ray player yet :-\ but it was cheap and I plan to get one really soon)
The AVP dvds I wanted so I could watch the movies uncut.

The only ones I have are AVP and Predators.

I haven't seen nor own any other Predators movie because of money and I haven't seen any of the Alien movie on the fact that it gave my father Night Terrors for years when he saw it.

Alien - 2-Disc Special Edition (Disc 1 containing both, the 2003 Director's Cut and original 1979 theatrical edition, Disc 2 the typical extras as Making of, documentary, production still collections etc.) - released in 2004 (originally contained a free ticket for Alien vs Predator and a preview DVD for AvP as well)

Aliens - 2-Disc Special Edition (Disc 1 containing both, Cameron's 1991 extended edition and the original 1986 theatrical edition, Disc 2 Making of, documentary, Production stills etc.) - released in 2004 (containing the same AvP stuff as the Alien Special Edition DVD)

Alien³ - 2-Disc Special Edition (Disc 1 containing both, the original 1992 theatrical edition and the 2003 extended edition, Disc 2 Making of, documentary etc.) - released in 2004 (also the AvP preview stuff is contained)

Alien: Resurrection - 2-Disc Special Edition (Disc 1 containing both, the original 1997 theatrical edition and the 2003 extended edition, Disc 2 Making of, documentary, interviews etc.) - released in 2004 (and even here containing the AvP preview stuff)

Those should be nearly identical to their UK counterpart releases (even the covers are similar)
The only difference are german subtitles and german audio tracks added (german subtitles only for the bonus discs)

Prometheus - standard edition (single disc release), the only bonus material on it are deleted and alternate scenes
Should be identical to all other european releases (except that for the german speaking countries it contains the german audio track, logically, and even subtitles in several languages like german, dutch, french, turkish etc.)

Predator - standard edition (2010 single disc reprint), it's the same Disc 1 as in the original 2001 2-Disc special edition release (even the code on the disc is the same) ... only exception: it was the very first time it was released uncut in germany! But there was already an uncut version for the german market back in 2001 (this disc is based on that one) released in austria and switzerland only, since in germany the uncut version was banned until 2010 ... It also got a new cover and disc image ...

Predator 2 - standard edition (2001 single disc release), this is the german uncut release only to be released in austria and switzerland (sadly the uncut edition is still banned in germany), it's the same disc as Disc 1 of the 2001 2-Disc special edition (only released in austria and switzerland) - there was also a 2010 release in germany, it was the very first time it was released in germany at all - but: cut (approx. 10 minutes missing), so I went over to catch a friend of mine in austria to get the uncut release for me  ;D

Ironically, back in 1997, when I saw both Predator and Predator 2 on TV the very first time, both films were actually shown uncut!   :laugh:
So I assume, the ban of the uncut editions of both films occurred later ...

Predators - 2010 1-Disc standard edition (released at the same time as the 2010 uncut release of the original Predator and the heavily cutted down edition of Predator 2 mentioned above)
It's identical to the italian release (contains both, german and italian audio tracks and subtitles), but the cover is different ...

Alien vs Predator + Aliens vs Predator: Requiem - 2-Disc double feature edition (released in 2008), it was a 2in1 budget repack, containing exactly the same disc 1 from the Alien vs Predator 2-Disc special edition release of 2005 (even the disc image is the same with the facehugger motive) and the same disc of the FSK18 (that means 18-rated) regular uncut (there was also a FSK16 - 16-rated - cut version) 1-Disc release of Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (released shortly before, it also has the same disc image of that release) - Well, it was much easier to track down that one than the uncut single disc release of AvPR, so I got this ... and I also had no copy of the first AvP at all, so it was just a logical (and time and money saving) alternative  ;)
As for the extreme/extended editions of AvP and AvPR: They never got any release in germany at all (but at least in austria and switzerland as fas as I know), but that's at least no problem to me, since I always prefered the original theatrical cuts more ...  ;)

I have the first two Predator and Alien films on a double pack, Predators on DVD and the two AVP movies on a double pack as well. I received all of these in the days when I didn't have my own cash flow so nothing to extraordinary I suppose, but I'm not complaining.

Pretty happy with these.  Only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of documentaries (Alien 1-4/AVP/Prometheus), but it has all the other features.

I'm a bit of a minimalist.

I discard the cases and only keep, what I deem to be, the best copies of each film.

Been updating my blu-rays with the Predator trilogy and AVP films for the fun of it, mainly because I wanted to get a face off image of the two boxsets.

The Predator trilogy boxset is used and worn but good enough, everything else is in good condition too although I was disappointed the UK blu-ray of Requiem didn't have the extended cut so I just got the DVD for £3. Which fits in well with the rest of my 2 disc DVD sets although I need to replace the AVP1 DVD as the case has gotten a little spotty. But I couldn't get rid of the rest of them because Predator 1 & 2 had some gorgeous DVD cases. :)

It all depends on what you have and what you want. Did you get the prequels new or used? Do you like the box for the 6 film collection more? Etc.

I personally only buy new products, and I don't keep cases or artwork myself. I throw them out if I can't recycle them and just keep the discs in a large name brand wallet. But I know what you mean about your dad. I gave all of my dvd's to my folks when I switched to Blu-ray about 2 years ago.

Have Predator triple feature pack. Now trying to decide whether or not to get the Anthology or the 6 film collection (and give Prometheus and Covenant to my Dad).

It all depends on what you have and what you want. Did you get the prequels new or used? Do you like the box for the 6 film collection more? Etc.

I personally only buy new products, and I don't keep cases or artwork myself. I throw them out if I can't recycle them and just keep the discs in a large name brand wallet. But I know what you mean about your dad. I gave all of my dvd's to my folks when I switched to Blu-ray about 2 years ago.

Both prequels were used when bought them. One was from a Redbox. The other off ebay.

Usually I place all my movies in big binders. Easier way to store them.

I feel your pain. Bought VHS, the first boxset back in 2003, the redone box set some years later and then the blu rays in 2011.
Not having any 4k content in the house as I don't have either screen nor player at the moment of writing. Blu is good enough for me though.

You might notice a dearth of box-sets. Basically I didn't want Alien Resurrection, PREDATORS or Prometheus in my collection.

That making-of is incomplete.  It's missing about 20 minutes restored to the Blu-ray version, along with 30-40 minutes of enhancement pods.

My laserdisc player died in 2012. R.I.P.

This list is what I previously owned on tape:

My very first pre-recorded videotape was an ex-rental (excellent condition) Betamax copy of ALIEN P&S  ($29.99 AUD) in 1985. It featured the audio with alternate effects and some dialogue - I think I remember Dallas' voice sounded differently in his first scene with MU/TH/UR?

VHS PAL reissue in 1991 - new, this time. Same overly dark full-screen transfer but different audio.

VHS PAL reissue 1992 - same as ^above^ but Macrovision copy-protected this time.

1998 VHS PAL boxed-set (then) trilogy. This time released for the first time (Australia) in widescreen letterbox format. I also had the full-screen equivalent. Both sets were colour coded (blue = widescreen, green = full screen).

2000 VHS PAL full-screen release for ALIEN, which also included the deleted scenes and two outtakes (from the 20th Anniversary DVD release) as supplemental features.

I ended up binning all the tapes (all Macrovision copy-protected) when moving to optical discs (which I will definitely keep).

I didn't get the chance to make back up copies (to DVD-R) for my laserdiscs because the player died.

You can get a pretty decent LD player for about a $100 USD on Ebay. Maybe it might be worth it to you to purchase a player, rip copies, and then put the player back on ebay for sale.

Either way, nice collection!

Being an advocate for widescreen, I remember Laserdics were the only way you could get a movie in letterbox versus pan & scan. People would complain "what's these horrible black bars on the bottom and top of my screen? I hate it!"  :laugh: So many people back then had no idea how much pan & scan truncated the movie.

Pan & Scan especially hurt a film like ALIEN. The tight close-ups of the Alien made even less sense in cropped and mutilated 4:3.

I have a VHS of Aliens special.edition and a working VHS player. Prior to the restored sentry gun scene there is a jump in the picture where they wanted to extend a shot of Hicks but there was a destroyed frame in the negative (quite normal during 35 mm neg matching in the old days). Somehow they fixed this in the anthology version (I guess by some form of digital magic).

I did have the Australian fullscreen VHS ALIENS: SPECIAL EDITION, from 1992. The (handy) liner notes identified the restored footage.

I remember the jump from the missing frame. I think the missing frame was reproduced digitally. You can still (just) see where the edit is on the Anthology Blu-ray release.

You may want to look into the "ALIEN SAGA" DVD narrated by John Hurt. I just recently watched this again. According to Xenopedia not all the special features have been included in the "ALIEN Anthology" bluray. There is a list of them on their site. :)

My copy of Alien Resurrection is starting to have some issues, Alien 3 too but at least with that one it's just the odd audio glitches.

When I watch the special edition, parts of the theatrical opening credits are in the special version and also at the end, it cuts off part of the dialogue and the shot of Paris and just goes straight to the credits, it's annoying but not too bad, I guess I'll have to face the fact that one day I might put it in the DVD player and it'll say :"No Disc".  :'(
