So it's time trial mode?

That season pass better have a xeno level or a Leadworks bait and chase mission.

So basically this game isn't going to cost me $60 bucks anymore. More like $90. yay.

Don't forget the cost of the DLC you'll have to buy if you didn't preorder...

I can understand releasing more maps later on and charging players for it, but only one map to start with on the challenge mode? Come on. That just feels like pulling the rug from underneath people after you've been demoing the mode for the past 6 months. Will probably wait until that season pass is part of a steam sale.

Sega seems great at getting people back into their good graces only to do something kind of annoying.

Sega rivals Capcom as one of the worst companies for doing this kind of shit. I won't be buying any of it until it's MASSIVELY reduced in a sale.

unless there is  a play as an alien dlc or some sort of expansion to the story i wont be shelling out 30+ dollars

Not sure why everyone is so surprised and continues to be surprised every time this happens to a new game. It's pretty standard fare.

Quite. It's like people complaining about multiple CD single releases back in the Nineties. This is the market, Sega would be insane not to try and compete. It isn't a personal slight.

No, wait. I'm a little upset only because I am looking at it this way, and please correct me if i am wrong.

I know this is standard fare for the most part, I get that. But what throws me off is the fact that the Survival mode that comes with the game is a demo'ish sorta thing. Like a tease. (Basically Isolation doesn't have multiplayer, which is fine, but this is equivalent for the sake of argument here). That would be like COD or The Last of US coming out for $60 only giving you the single player and including a single multiplayer map tease level enticing you to buy the "full multiplayer experience" for an extra $30. I wouldn't really have a big problem with what Creative Assembly is doing here if it came with 4 areas to play this survival mode in, instead of half of one. Then release the expansion packs later and so on.

Well the point of the game is to feel isolated and alone. They really don't want to have other people in the game giving you the sense of security and safety. The point of the game is to survive. Just you and the Alien and that's it. I think the survival mode is pretty cool. You can compete with others and survive in different ways depending on your strategy. I don't think this game should ever be multiplayer and there's a lot of good reasons for that but I sympathize with what your talking about.

Never said i want multiplayer. Here, maybe i'll try and explain my point better. Lets just say that instead of "The Last of US" for instance coming with multiplayer it came with a Survivor mode. Now, since I am replacing the multiplayer mode with a Survivor mode, it is included with the game The Last of Us. Now, take that away, and give the users just a TEASE of the Survivor mode and then charge $30 extra on top of that. That imo sucks, and is what Creative Assembly is doing here.

What most companies have done is they give you 4 or 8 or whatever maps, or missions etc included with the game. THEN if you want more and more and more of said maps or missions, then you pay for those with a season pass or whatever. What I am a little upset about is that you only get a tiny tiny bit of survivor mode included with the game. It's not really a huge huge deal, I just think it sucks thats all.

Oh right so it's a "demo", pretty sure that's the first mention of that, i.e. they haven't really been upfront with whats in the package they are asking everyone to preorder.

I don't take the point that it's griping, take a look a some of the best AAA games, they are crammed full of content at launch, I'm not against DLC if it's new content but releasing a map at a time is pretty low.

Pretty sure it says the DLC comes with 3 levels in the expansions - you're not buying a single map every time. But wait until you play the map that ships with the game.

Considering I wasn't expecting anything other than a nice chunky single player campaign, I'm very happy to see some extra modes and that they are providing DLC. Depending on how good the game actually turns out, I might hope to see some "proper" single player expansions.

Indeed, the first dlc will have 3 maps, but according to this statement all the dlcs are for survivor mode.
QuoteIt was announced today that the game's DLC pass will include access to five expansions for the game's Survivor Mode.

Alright, who also wants a level where you play as Call and have to duck, dive and dodge the Newborn around the Betty?

Or one where you are Newt in Hadley's Hope being hunted by a tenacious alien, -the same one who nabbed her in the flooded basement, dun dun dun- before the gang arrives?

+1 for Newt Colony map (pretty sure CA know it fits the survival mode perfectly well)

Yeah I saw the guy near the end playing pretty sloppy and getting the fastest time. Which is my biggest worry about this game. No AI, no matter how intelligent tends to always have an exploit, and I wonder how long it will take people to figure out the AI in alien isolation.
Title: Re: Survivor Mode Trailer
Post by: ikarop on Sep 20, 2014, 03:19:09 PM
I don't think it's a matter of figuring out the AI, which seems great, but an issue with the flame-thrower itself. From the video it seems like the flame-thrower stuns the alien every time so as long as you have enough ammo you'll always be safe. I hope that's not the case in the main game because otherwise it'll ruin the experience.
Title: Re: Survivor Mode Trailer
Post by: gabgrave on Sep 20, 2014, 03:43:04 PM
There are times though when the Alien ignores the flame and stabs the player when they try to run pass. But there are also times the Alien just knocks the player over and runs away.

CA said that if you use the flame-thrower too much in the main game the alien will learn it cant hurt him...and you will be in trouble. Cant believe you miss that info Ikarop :D

Anyway in the basement map you have enought fuel (if you found it) to beat the level in a desperate run...but without achieve the secondary objetives

I think the Nostromo DLC is good enough honestly. If this game is based on the first Alien there is only so much you can do. Trying to create a separate universe outside of that realm and including different maps and shit not based on the first film would seem kind of random and out of place. This game is a one person experience based solely on the first film. Trying to incorporate a whole bunch of multiplayer shit doesn't make sense nor does it seem appropriate for a game like this.

Does anyone know any more details about Survivor Mode besides the fact that it's a way to compete among friends?  This mode reminds me of the challenges from Prototype 2 and the only reason I completed them was for trophies/achievements and to unlock the Alex Mercer costume (for Radnet Edition players); I couldn't care less about my friends' leaderboard positions tbh.  I AM buying the season pass but I'm feeling very undermotivated to play Survivor Mode; Alien Isolation's October gaming rival, The Evil Within, will feature a season pass where players will actually be able to play as the infamous Box Head (unkillable monster that stalks the player through the campaign) along with levels that will further explore the story.

I feel like Survivor Mode is another way to experiment with different encounters with the alien without having to load up certain sections of the Campaign.  I really like that actually bc not every part of story mode will feature the alien
