Title: Alien: Solara - New Audio Drama!
Post by: Anarchist86ed on Jan 28, 2018, 07:12:41 PM
Alien: Solara tells the story of the crew of the USCSS Solara as they're drawn into a war between rival companies, both of which intend to capture and harness the abilities of the Xenomorph creatures. But now they may be the only hope of stopping new, and even worse forms of the creatures.

Part one Featured the voice talents of A.J. Carter as John, midway traffic controller, man in diner and Weyland-Yutani executive. Stephanie Carlson as Captain Anderson. Mya Schuwerk as mother. And Graham Rowat as Mr. Deckard.

Listen on soundcloud, sub to the RSS for updates.

I like the use of the 2010 audio with Karl Weyland. And the Alien background track.  :)

All in all I'm intrigued enough to want to listen to Part 2.

Really liked the inclusion of the original derelict transmission audio. Wasn't a fan of Mother's sassy attitude. The Captain needs a bit more emotion in her voice as at the moment she comes across fairly flat and monotonous. So does John, but the reason why is obvious enough there.

From a technical standpoint, watch out for some of your mixes as you're peaking the audio when you apply your radio filters.

But I'm keen to hear how this continues!

I agree with SiL...on headphones I flinched at least once from the harshness of the audio.

I'm not the biggest fan of audio dramas, but I did enjoy it.  May even check out the next episode.  ;)

I did enjoy playing the "spot the reference" game you've got going.  I caught "Willing" (The Abyss) Twister (Bill Paxton) Phil Deckard (for the author of, and lead character from, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) Lance Henriksen as Weyland, and Zoe Poledouris' song from Starship Troopers.  What'd I miss?

I know about the issues. People work for free and don't have the absolute best recording equipment. It wasn't possible to compensate for every problem. I couldn't fix some without causing bad compression.

I also can't anticipate what you listen on. Everything pumps out audio different. I levelled everything at about 50% of output. Sometimes lowering too much makes it inaudible.

I may make some changes soon.

Yeah, I'm just saying there are issues I can't fix. I've already made some changes based on feedback that I agreed with. I can't lower the bass on some audio because it'll get too compressed. I can't make some audio less compressed. These are just facts that have to be lived with. No one is using a recording studio, they're all going to have differing quality.

So, yes, I need feedback but I can also say there are things that can't be fixed. The motto of this project is "no one's getting paid". So we do the best we can with what we got.

That's half the fun of a project like this. You missed easy peasy lemon squeezy. John spends his time watching old movies, listening to "classical" music, and reading Chief hennesy's stash of ancient comic books. His favorite among them is a series about "deceased walking Humans", so it's a Negan nod. Good catch on Deckard.

Prey Vs hunters, reference to another creature the company would like to get their hands on.

And of course the reference to Arcturians.

Adjustments were made, same URL.

I simply can't compensate for all the different ways people will listen. It's different on everything I listen to on from laptop speakers, to Sony earphones, to noise cancelling headphones.

Gonna have to leave it as is, there's just nothing more I can do to compensate. Some things will just sound different based on whatever you're listening through. But I do appreciate all feedback.

Part 2 is starting production soon.

I really dug that transmission! I'm not a massive fan of the redone version for the Director's Cut (accidentally wrote Derelict's Cut the first time) so I did love hearing that! I think your sound design is really great too - having things like this, Lance's recordings from 2010 and all the actual Alien sound effects worked really well for keeping it grounded in Alien. Really really liked that.

Same for the re-use of the Alien music. Normally I'm a little hesitant about the re-use of soundtracks in fan-made productions but I think it worked really well in here.

I actually liked Mother's attitude. I was gutted they deleted the sass from Alien: Covenant. There's something about giving AI attitudes that I enjoy but I can understand why others may not like it so much. I thought the same of John until I eventually realized why.

I'm really looking forward to Part 2! I will be front-paging this shortly and sharing to our socials.  :) How many episodes do you envision you'll be releasing and what sort of release schedule are you aiming for?

I can't play alien isolation, my computer would be top of the line in north Korea, but I have all the ripped sound effects. And all the sounds from Aliens CM. Not a single one of the audio files is labelled. They're all numbered. It is an absolute nightmare to find what I need. It took hours to find the PUPS sound effect they used in colonial marines for part 2. How hard would it have been to name them?  ::)

Anyway, yes MUTHUR is designed to be a little more Human, but still obviously just be an obsolete computer. It's explained why she is the way she is later.

John is NOT David or Walter, he's a unique design and is more sophisticated than David was. So no, he does not look like Michael Fassbender as some people have asked.

Reusing music is simply a given. I can't compose my own and using anything else would not work at all.

The captain will practically not shut up in part 2. She wasn't in this much so there wasn't much to emote anyway.

A teaser for part 2: flute.

;)

That was a cool Audio story. I like how it references the events of Aliens and the atmosphere processor explosion and how the ending hints at what is to come. Very well done. I could listen to these audio stories all day about the Alien franchise. I wish I had more time to read the Alien novels you see a Barnes and Noble.

I've been deciphering them and placing them into folders like "door" or "power loader" or "LV426Ambience". Sometimes this involves having to go to youtube and watching lets plays to accurately find out what sound is what.

For example, the aforementioned pups sound:

The pulse rifle sounds in ACM are atrocious. They may have had the original sound effect, but man did they screw it up. And listening back to all the xeno sounds, it's obvious they just used pig sounds.

Isolation is no different. The sounds are so much better, but again not a single one is named. There are no files labeled "derelict ambience" or anything that would make it easy to find what I need quickly. I was so excited to find Seegson commercials I had to put them in just to celebrate finding them.

Way she goes.  :-\

I enjoyed it well enough. I do think all this is becoming a a twist on Fantasy Island. Every week, guests arrive on the island (wherever the island may be). There, the Alien waits and everyone will die. No Ricardo Montalban or Herve Villechaize, but there might as well be. Maybe a couple of Aliens could play the parts?  ::)

All I can tell you is there is only 1 face hugger. Wey-Yu aren't the villains, in fact they're in serious trouble of being bought out by Disney or Wal-Mart, and the aliens are completely different from what's been established. Spoilers otherwise.

Yes they do, and no they're not. They're a joke. Even though Disney actually does own Weyland-Yutani now.

Pretty cool!

They treaded some familiar territory bu at the right moment navigated away from the obvious results.  It's fairly self-aware and uses references in a humorous way.

That song is forever alien to its original context...

As with Part One, your soundscapes were just spot-on. Slotted it right into the Alien universe really nicely. I really liked the singing, it endeared me to the characters quite easily. It was a great short and I'm glad to hear you're doing some more. You turned that around really nicely too! Very fast.

Originally part 2 was going to clock out at about an hour, but everyone agreed it was too long. 32 minutes seems more tolerable.

Eventually it will all be edited into one long episode like the audible drama's.

Well it's about 35 minutes. I couldn't leave it on a pathetic cliffhanger. Instead it ends on a much better cliffhanger. The original over an hour version ended by introducing a very special antagonist.

All I'll say about spoilers is John is a synth, but what does the name "John" mean?  ;) if you can figure that out, you'll get a hint where John is at the end of the episode.

Thought it'd be fun to go over the references we made.

In  part 1:

Willin' by Linda Ronstadt is a nod to the abyss.

Twister is a nod to Bill Paxton, AKA Hudson. The movie exists in the same universe, though not canon of course.

Wey-yu commercial from AVP, a nod that the predator is also out there.

Midway station, the astral diner and Humans becoming energy beings are all nods to stargate.

It's 2180, a little over a year after Alien 3, and my 200th birthday.

They fly an M-call star freighter, possibly the last one known to still be in use.

Plutus is the god of wealth, the planet Plutus is rich in gold.

Mr. Deckard. You figure it out.

"John" means Jockey. According to Wikipedia, the word jockey in the English language itself derives from the name John also colloquially used for boy, as cognate to the custom found in many Indo-European languages.

The events on LV-426 were covered up as an atmosphere processor explosion.

Milky goop should be obvious, it's what they used in the movies.

Bees man, bees have hives. But in canon there are no bees on Thedus as far as we know.

Dead rock trivia and references:

Power doors use the same sound effect as the aliens doors.

The power loader is the same sound effect.

Country roads is considered classical music.

A nod to the engineer civil war is made.

The eggs were experiments of the engineers, just like David, they wanted the perfect organism.

Humans care more about money than dangers these creatures can cause, just like Burke.

The wind sound is the same used for LV-426.

There were two creatures in the eggs, neither of which were face huggers. I say that because it's obvious they weren't. What they really are will be a big surprise later on.

Part 2 references. Spoilers alert.

They're space truckers, not colonial marines is what a character says. The crew of Nostromo were also space truckers.

Laser pistols make a triumphant return.

The Captain bought a scrapped shuttle for the ship before they left gateway. It's name is too weird to pronounce.

Paxtonol-666 is the name of a chemical that can melt rock. Figure out why it's named that.

Disney and WalMart are rumored to be buying Weyland-Yutani. In resurrection, Walmart allegedly buys them. In reality, Disney just bought them.

That's all for now.

I dug it! I fancy having a re-listen of the three so far but I enjoyed myself. Your sound engineering is spot on and the cast is great (Hennessy especially had me chuckling!). I also liked that you embraced the fandom theory of different factions of Engineers. I'm looking forward to seeing how you further use that.

I started to have an issue with the homages by the end of the episode though - specifically reused dialogue. I hate it in the actual films and the first few instances worked quite nicely but after "this crew is not expendable" I wasn't so keen. Started to find them really distracting and pulling me out the experience.

You're overruled on the references, the cast likes them. They're all big alien fans so they appreciate putting in the nods. They particularly liked the crew not being expendable because they didn't want it to be another slaughter fest. So it's more for them than the audience. One of them says it makes them feel like they're in the universe, so that's good enough for me to keep them. Though going forward you won't find many more of them. Except the colonial marines. And pulse rifles. And drop ships. But those are required. And we'll learn a little more about the soon to be united systems military and the downfall of Wey-Yu. All from a non canon perspective.

The chief is probably my favorite character. He's unapologetic scummy.

I honestly didn't even want to address the engineers, but I figured that they're there and we may as well use them. In part three we learn a lot more about what went on in the lab and why the ship is there. But we don't learn about the "science experiment" for a while.

Deleted, because he didn't record it, was a story Chief Hennessy told about visiting LV-178 to prospect for trimonite but in the end all of his fellow prospectors disappeared in the sea of sorrows. I felt it was ok to lose this and just make a reference to the Marion and the miners. Probably best not to reference the new audible drama out anyway.

Chief: I went there once with a prospecting team. They wanted to search the sea of sorrows for any traces of trimonite, but the whole damn area was too toxic even after terraforming. I decided not to go, and they were never heard from again.

People seemed to get a kick out of Disney actually owning Wey-Yu in reality now. No, they don't make an appearance as a villain company. But the crew still finds it hilarious that the house of mouse might build better theme parks.

Trivia:

The sprayer sound effect is the slime blower from Ghost Busters.

The Narcissus was repaired and sold cheaply. The Captain bought it as a back up. The Nostromo had two shuttles, only one functional. At the end of the story the Narcissus will once again be the only functional shuttle on an M-Class ship. With a badly replaced rear hatch because the scrappers didn't bother trying to open it before cutting it off.

A second Negan reference.

Acheron WAS a better place to live than Plutus.

The flute sound is just sped up from a piece of music, I couldn't get a clean sound of the flute from Prometheus.

Greed over the good of Humanity always prevails.

Laser pistols were originally in Alien, but never actually shown or used.

Whatever's in those eggs, it was worth suicide to destroy.

As always there are of course issues with me not being able to make it perfect based on what you listen with. For instance, one line of dialogue spikes hard even though I lowered it by half. It sounds normalized on my laptop speaker, sounds normal on my phone, gets loud on my MP3 player, barely can hear it on my tablet. I do my best to fix these issues but there seems to be no way to perfectly level everything to sound the same in every way people may listen. Having OCD it drives me nuts when it sounds the same on one, then spikes on another. All I can suggest is pick a comfy volume. Hopefully any issues will be fixed when it's all melted into one episode.

It's not like I have any say to be overruled. lol  :P Just giving my feedback as a listener and a big fan myself. It's purely the re-used dialogue I dislike. I can't stand it in sequel films. The first few instances in episode 2 were kinda fun but after that I just found them distracting.

I've got no issues with references - I love them. I love the universe connecting that they entail and you're right - they're 100% needed to help keep it all together. I've enjoyed your use of them.  :)

When is Solara set? I've not listened to the Audible yet but I've started re-reading the book and they weren't aware of the trimonite until the start of the book anyway. It was just a colony. It's also set well after Alien: Resurrection so it might have caused you some timeline errors.

Late October, 2180. Actually it takes place around Halloween. A little over a year after alien 3, which is why the atmosphere processor explosion on Acheron is recent news and also a joke in part 2 about Disney sending kids to LV-426 to clean up radiation and bits of colonists.

Deleted from the script was a reference to the Captain having dinner on LV-426 and being annoyed by a little girl with a doll and a kind of weird accent who wanted to know what it was like living in space.

Since we're not canon, I only reference some canon things to suit our needs. I threw in the LV-178 reference just to describe Plutus as being an even worse shit hole than it was.

Didn't like that! Breaking the fourth wall. Hated it in Covenant, distracting again here.

Again, a cast member got a kick out of it. Besides, I needed an excuse for him to be able to turn on the console and David could figure out their technology with absolutely no explanation, so John can too.

They make a brief appearance and get a quick mention in the Director's Cut IIRC.

Maybe, but it's still a blink and you'll miss it thing. But just like in Alien, our laser pistols never get used.

I must have missed that! Did you namedrop it?

The kid couldn't pronounce it so he tried to and called it the Narcsistas. The chief doesn't find it space worthy because the rear hatch repair was sloppy because the scrappers who found it didn't bother trying to actually open it first. In part 3 Mr. Deckard gets a kick out of hearing the Narcissus was docked with Solara the whole time and tells the Captain the story of it's former crew and how the survivor passed away from severe chest pains.

I'm keen to see what else you have in store - even if you're not keen on the Engineers. I think they actually open up a lot of possibilities!

I more or less imply the engineers were trying to create something new and royally screwed up. But believe it or not, my creatures won't really be the bad guys, I kinda want you to sympathize with them for the meddling the engineers did. There is not one single reference that David is responsible for the xenomorphs. This is the single most infuriating concept from the entire franchise. I'm retconning that the engineers were ultimately disappointed with the species, labeling them inefficient. They worked to make them more efficient. We do hear from engineers in part 3.

Good work :) The dialogue is entertaining. I think Hicks handled most of the quibbling. I got the Narcissus reference right away. I like that. The old girl had to go somewhere. Better to another M-class than the scrap heap. On to Part 3! :D

Alien: Solara. Part 3 synopsis.

As the crew of Solara investigate the engineer ship, Captain Anderson sees only dollar signs and draining the pockets of the rapidly declining Weyland-Yutani. But little does the entire crew know that they've stumbled onto an ancient experiment that may not be what the company, the colonial marines, or others seeking the Xenomorph creatures expect. Events have been set in motion that will see a civil war among aliens, corporate rivals, and the emergence of a new government and it's military force that also seeks to harness the untapped potential of these creatures.

Whoever wins... no one's getting paid.

So, as always we have the cool references and trivia.

The button sound effects are from Prometheus, as is the door sound effect. I just added a steam sound to finish off the sound effect.

A religious war? How would Deckard know? Because there was an unrecorded engineer line about heretics. He didn't record it, so I decided to move on without it. It was too late in editing to realistically fix it anyway.

As written:

Chiefs assistant: These holograms suck, I can't make out what they look like.

Monk: Secure the orerry. The heretics were traveling to their hidden laboratory to collect the prototypes. We must assure their destruction and all the knowledge of them. We must be prepared to lose our lives. The future of our children is once again in our hands.

The holographic recording ends.

John: I believe we can guess the rest of the story.

Mr. Deckard: Heretics and traitors. Maybe we witnessed a battle in some sort of religious war.

Now, you may not like how I depict the engineers and that's fine. But we needed to hear them since we can't see them. Also we go back to not being canon, so I took some liberties with the engineers.

The engineers refer to Eden, which is apparently what they called Earth.

Contact with the seeder ship was lost... because it crashed on LV-426 and transmitted a warning.

The blaster sound effects are from Star Trek.

The hologram sound effect is from Star Wars.

The grit gate is a reference to river of pain.

Jammed by Raspberry. SpaceBalls, anyone?

Mcguiness orders Bravo team to head 'em out. The marines from aliens are 2nd Battalion Bravo Team.

Colonel Doctor Paul Church makes his first appearance outside of a comic book, but my Church is not directly taken from the comics. He's only obsessed with the Xenomorphs, he's never had any actual experience with them. He'll do anything to acquire them.

Sgt Mcguiness is taken from Lt. McGuinness.

The drop ship is the same sound from aliens, there was nothing useful in the Aliens: Colonial Marines sound files.

Ramirez has half a bottle of Liquremen's ol dirty Canadian whiskey is a reference to the trailer park boys.

The welder sound is the one used in ACM and thus Aliens.

I goofed and used smart gun pulse sounds, not rifle sounds. I just decided not to change it.

The Sergeant says no fire, why do they fire warning shots? Because I was impatient and wanted to use pulse rifle sounds.

Why does the Sgt have a British accent if he's a colonial marine? I never said they were united states colonial marines.

Why is Church kind of a dick? Because he is and has very little respect for the marines or anyone else.

Were there other takes of Church's voice? Yes, and it was hysterically stereotypical of a mad scientist.

Parasitoid? That's what a facehugger is called, but that's not what we're dealing with.

Deckard works for the company, why doesn't he know more about the engineers? He knows. He knows.

I relistened to Part 3 on the way to work this morning. As usual, I enjoyed it. The sound design remains solid - thought the shuttle explosion was a little underwhelming and the captain's "noooo!" could have done with another go around but otherwise it continues to keep me in the universe and impress.

I know you've said before you're not too into the Engineer war thing but I'm glad to see it still being embraced and the possibility of going back to the explore the ship is still there.

I wasn't expecting
Spoiler
the colony to still be there and functioning
[close]
and I found that pleasantly surprisingly! Put a nice little spin on it.

Fortunately for me only one piece of re-used dialogue but I think we know each other's thoughts on that by now!  :P

And Dr Church. Also wasn't the character I was expecting. Since you're not going for the same Church from the comics I'm interested to see how you progress with him.

All in all, I'm still very much enjoying the dramas and I'm eager to listen to more.

I didn't like her noooo either, but you have to remember they don't record in studios with million dollar equipment. She couldn't scream like you'd expect and it would have blown the audio to hell if she did.

I couldn't find a better explosion for the shuttle, I had to go with what I had.

Yes, we go back to the ship. In fact we learn what John was doing for an hour. The ship is very important going forward.

Yep, no slaughter fest. My aliens are different, half of them anyway.

Church continues to be a dick in 4.

John. An Alien: Solara Short.

John is born into a new world that doesn't consider him alive, it only considers him property.

Wow. All of the characters in that were voiced by the same actor? I'd have never noticed! That was great work.

So I have a question - and apologies if I've missed this in the other episodes - is John one of a kind? Because that's a whole lot of androids pretending otherwise!

Also, who choose Queen? AJ did a good job singing along to that.

Yep, all A.J.

John is one of a kind. They only made one of him. Obviously Walter won out, but he escaped recycling by pretending to be a Droid.

He also cost as much as the robo flops from RoboCop 2.

I chose queen. It seemed to fit with John's "awakening".

He also names the most precious life in the universe to him, and the "love" his creator told  him about. But we'll get to that later.

Special announcement.

Hadley's hope may have been destroyed, or so everyone thinks, but that's not where the story of Acheron ends. It's only begun.

Charon, an Alien: Solara spinoff. Acheron still holds many secrets, and so does the forbidden planet known as LV-223. After the atmosphere processor explosion that killed 158 colonists, Weyland-Yutani has gained full control of the planet and decided to begin the second phase of colonization construction as radiation levels drop thanks to secondary processors. With permanent habitats already constructed far away from what was Hadley's hope, a new batch of colonists are on their way to make a new life working the recycling plant that was to make Acheron self sufficient and profitable. But there are many dangers and secrets on Acheron, and it's neighbors. Secrets that may once again doom this dark, cold little moon.

"Mr. Deckard" an Alien: Solara short spinoff episode releases on Sunday.

Mr. Deckard is a very complicated man and so was his mission to acquire fresh specimens from the derelict on LV-426.

Follow https://twitter.com/AlienSolara (https://twitter.com/AlienSolara) for updates.

Now for those fun references. Most will be obvious.

Ripley's debriefing at the beginning. This sets up the episode. But who were Deckard and the executive in the briefing? Use your imagination.

Glass of Malbec? The drink of choice of Dr. Reese in river of pain. It doesn't travel well.

The executive mentions the Nostromo was rerouted by some executives who knew it was a warning. Apparently the company did know it was a warning and sent the crew in anyway.

Priva son d'ogni conforto, the first Resurrection reference. Deckard enjoys it along with his signature cup of tea.

The second time Deckard drinks tea. Graham, for some reason, really liked Deckard drinking tea so I made a second nod to it.

"We've arrived at the river of pain". That's what Acheron is, and that's what it's called in Alien: River of pain.

FATHER, another Resurrection reference. There's a point to these references.

Father references sporadic Human life signs, one of which of course was Newt. He also lists off Hamsters and cows. Newt owned a hamster, and the marines in river of pain liked to go cow tipping.

Why Sulaco didn't scan for life signs? The Shinyo Maru scrambled them.

The Shinyo Maru was a ship of unknown class privately-owned by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. It was the second vessel that rediscovered the derelict ship on Acheron (LV-426) following the disastrous mission to Hadley's Hope in 2179. It was sent to ascertain the status of the Atmospheric Processing Plant. But I changed it's history a little bit.

The draco double burner prototype makes an appearance. This suggests that even though Wey-Yu allegedly went under in the future, their influence was still everywhere.

Tire tracks and that crack down the side. Newt's families crawler, and the crack was how they got into the derelict.

It was raining on the planet suggesting events at the colony were happening at the same time Deckard and his team were at the derelict.

Dropped gear and critter bodies. In river of pain Newt's parents mentioned finding bodies. The dropped gear could have been from the other colonists who investigated and were face hugged.

The mapping scanner is just the motion tracker with a retro screen static sound effect.

"There are no children there". Deckard was wrong, there was one there.

Deckard terminates the contracts with the date Aliens was released.

Light-plus engines were mentioned in an earlier draft from Alien. In fact dialogue was lifted from that script.

The Merc is yet another unsung hero who prevents the aliens from reaching Earth.

"Have a good journey, Mr. Deckard". David told Weyland to also have a good journey.

We know that Deckard encounters an engineer ship again, why doesn't he remember the one on Acheron? Executive Carter tells us why. "All you need to remember is special order 938". All evidence of the "adventure" had to be taken care of. When he encounters the engineer ship, he literally has no idea he's seen one before.

"The full work up" is something we won't learn about until the very last episode of Solara.

Special order 938 sits between 937 and 939.

Why did I have Graham do Burke when you can clearly hear Paul Reiser? This was not really my intention, but more of a problem. I covered him up as best I could.

It's suggested Burke may have nuked the colony and been given full blame for it, and in Charon, the upcoming spinoff, we'll learn more.

I listened to this a second time on the way to work this morning. In general, as per usual, I enjoyed it. You continue to put together a solid production!

Loved the opening and placing Deckard in there. Thought it was a nice move. The difference in audio quality was a tiny bit noticeable but not really sure what you could have done there to deliberately improve or lower the quality of the two different audio?

I liked the idea of sending a pick-up to the Derelict. However, thought it was silly to have them also alert the Marines. I feel like it would have been far smarter to have them not get involved with the marines and instead Deckard has to beat them there. Seemed counter-intuitive.

QuoteThe Shinyo Maru was a ship of unknown class privately-owned by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. That's a Tech Manual reference IIRC?

QuoteThe draco double burner prototype makes an appearance. This suggests that even though Wey-Yu allegedly went under in the future, their influence was still everywhere.

I was honestly expecting that to be the Assault Rifle from Colonial Marines when he was talking about it! Nice to see some Resurrection references - some oblique ones that I only see now you've pointed them out. You really do put some hard work into that!

I assume the "full work up" is the memory wipe! Though, kind of makes me wonder why they didn't just do that with the mercenaries. It was interesting to see Deckard go full badass, though. Not a side of him we've seen so far!

Oh, I wasn't keen on the over-use of Suit as a nickname. I get it and I think it works. But damn, he just kept on saying it and saying it. Got a bit eye-rolly.

QuoteIt's suggested Burke may have nuked the colony and been given full blame for it, and in Charon, the upcoming spinoff, we'll learn more.

I liked the idea that the company could do it if a colony tried to declare independence. I don't think it works in Aliens, though. There's nothing in Aliens that would make me think that was a likely thing.

As I said at the beginning though. Over all, I continue to enjoy your work. Really glad you're actively putting these out and the production is great.

I wanted to use audio from the river of pain audio drama, but it didn't work out. I couldn't justify spending money on it just for that. We is poor.

I thought about them getting there before the Marines, but the derelict was more fun to return to.

The full work up is not a memory wipe. It's something very... Special order related.

Calling him suit is more an insult. Notice in Solara he's only called a stiff suit once.

It seemed unlikely some bullets could cause such problems. I figured Burke was a perfect Patsy. If you think about it, the plan makes sense. He didn't want to wait for rescue, and was a greedy little weasel. He could have set the processor to go off to motivate the retrieval of the drop ship. Obviously he'd know they had another. But it was a gamble they'd be able to even try.

You need 500 likes to make a Facebook named Solara. We can't get that many listens.

I use Sony Vegas. It's easier.

I know, but then I couldn't reference the Sulaco or why a star ship couldn't detect Human life signs down in the colony. So that's really why I did it, was to kind of sort of clean up a plot hole. Sulaco surely would have scanned for life signs and detected them. That never made sense to me so I decided to fix it.

Yeah it would, but they still had no contact with them. There was a deleted scene I wrote about Burke implanting Newt and Ripley for pickup by the shinyo Maru but it just made no sense. I decided it made more sense for them to arrive at the same time and have events occur at the same time. Was cooler that way knowing our heroes were there at the same time. But anyway, it's always tough getting these things right. And since we're not canon we can take as many liberties as we want as far as I'm concerned.

I'LL check it out. Thanks.

The queen herself invites you to visit her hive. Won't you join her?

Those fun references:

See you on the other side. The episode starts with the Cap and her daddy watching Ghost Busters, and ends with her telling the kid she'll tell him her first name on the other side.

M41A Pulse Rifle MK2 from colonial marines.

When the kid says Colonial Marines is one of his favorite games, he's full of shit. Colonial Marines is no one's favorite game.

Doctor Church mentions he has upgrades.

"Cheap obsolete electronics" references the Alien films being in the future, yet all of their tech is laughably obsolete by our modern day standards.

John mentions the "chosen one" who was killed. Ridley Scott implied the engineers introduced the concept of "Jesus" to Humans and was killed yet turned into a god. Making no sense.

Church talks about how inefficient Xenomorphs are as a species. If they propagated the way they do, they probably wouldn't even exist. The engineers wanted to fix that.

The sarge reminds his soldiers they're not expendable just like the Captain tells her crew they're not expendable.

Deckard freaks out when he hears the word Xenomorph because special order 938 is always in effect.

The Zeus is a ship on the planet Plutus. Zeus is the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, who rules as king of the gods of Mount Olympus. Plutus was the god of wealth in ancient Greek religion and myth. Plutus is rich in vast amounts of gold.

"This is tactically dangerous". That's what the T-800 told John.

"I'll stay here and make spooky sounds". That's what a pilot says in Monster Squad as his co-pilot goes to see what made a noise.

They can be trained. Church seeks to train the aliens in the comics.

Xenomorphs continue to be afraid of fire for some reason.

They're only animals like Hudson said.

The Sargent has a Hudson level freak out while blasting away.

The pulse rifle sound effects are from colonial marines. There was too much BASS in the effects, but I could not remove it so sometimes they can get a little too thumpy.

"Ya don't say". We all know the meme.

Sentry robotic sounds.

"You stupid slag". I was watching Alien Nation as I wrote this. But the word has another meaning.

"Always wondered what your first name was". It's not that hard to figure out, and the whole crew should know it.

Stephanie kind of hits on herself because she plays the Captain and the prospector.

Post credits scene.

Bacchus Station provides luxury accommodations, nightclubs and bars, sports events, prostitutes, and many other things to entice its guests. And was featured in Space: Above And Beyond.

Chief almost banged a shemale and no one could tell the difference. A friend of mine had a similar experience and ran screaming from it.

"Yellow stained underwear". Further proving our engineer is a filthy space trucker.

@Anarchist86ed listened to Part 1 today. Outstanding. Really atmospheric and authentic. Chomping at the bit to listen to the rest of this now.

Already up to Part 4 and half way through. This is so well made - at times on par with those official Audible dramatisations adaptions.

Really love how

I need a break, so part 5 isn't coming all that soon. Making 4 of them plus the specials with absolutely no reward whatsoever is kinda taxing.

Sure. Let's go with that.  ;D

By reward I don't mean money. We couldn't do it anyway, and we wouldn't get one single penny. For example, there's this other series I listened to with one person doing the voices. Horrible audio quality and horrendous editing and they have far more twitter followers and get mentioned constantly and praised. I listen to pig squeals for hours on end with my tinnitus and can't get a single like on twitter. Seriously, it really, really hurts to even make these and honestly I had to stop using ear phones and sometimes the leveling of audio suffers because of it. Doing the xenomorphs with earphones on wasn't fun, so I didn't.

Safe to say it's kind of a waste of time, honestly, but the cast is having fun doing it and at least we now have 2 confirmed fans. All I wanted going in was to gain an audience and tell a story. Never once did I ever expect to gain anything from it, in fact I've told my cast to use it to promote themselves and get what they can from it. All I hope to ever get is no cease and desist from a mouse.  ::)

But there will be a part 5. And 6. And 7. And... I dunno after that.

Our spinoff "Charon" will come out before part 5. So will "The Captain", another of our short episodes.

Okay, so then it hasn't been a waste of time. You're getting front page promotion of your work on this site's front page, for free, each time you release a new episode. And people are engaging with it and appreciating it.

At the end of the day, if you and yours are enjoying putting it together, then it's not a waste of time. If you don't enjoy it then that's a different story. I know it can be disheartening to put lots of effort into something and not get much in the way of response - and I really do know what that feels like - but if you're proud with what you've done then that's what matters. And you have every reason to be proud.

If you want to reach more people then you or someone has to start pushing the advertising. I think you need a website with a release/listening order that is easy to follow. I think you need to start pushing the Twitter - and with more than just episode releases. Alien pictures, hashtags, previews etc. You need to get yourself on a Facebook page and push it to the active groups. You might not like socials but that's where most attention comes from these days.

It took me far too long to realise how important social media was and to put them to use purely because I disliked social media. This shit takes work on top of the work you're doing. And it's not an instant thing.

Could be worse. At least people leave feedback and comments here. There are some of us who have posted projects here that are lucky to get a single comment. So at the end of the day, the only one you can do it for is you. Luckily yours is a group coordinated effort. Some of us do our projects solo. Working with multiple mediums; such as photography, photoshop editing, story writing, etc.

Appreciate and love your work. Do it for you. Don't do it for anyone else. And you do great work! Most people never get past the conceptual phase. You have managed that and more!

And the Corporal is awesome for that. We're grateful. But the reality is even with YouTube I get maybe 50 views, sometimes less. My 700 or so subs never click, never comment. The first part got over a thousand views, thanks to the Corporal, but after that we crashed, like I expected. I could put 3 am in the tags and title the video "we went looking for xenomorphs at 3 am and we all got killed! (Gone wrong!!) And still wouldn't get any views.  yes, that's a thing on YouTube, look it up. It's garbage.

Of course it better be free, my broke ass couldn't even afford to get river of pain to use some of its audio for Deckard.  ;D

I enjoy it, till I'm sick of it. Listening to it over and over and over and over again gets on the nerves. 4 was not that much fun to make. It was originally way shorter because of cast real life issues, then Ryan sent his stuff in one day before I was going to release it, which is why chief and Ramirez are post credits.

I push it everywhere I can, but we get buried less than a day after I post, and no one scrolls down anymore. But as I said, the least effort always gets the attention. Trust me on that.

Stephanie said the same thing about a website, I tried making one but gave up. It sucked. I might try again.

While I'm proud of the work, I also hate it because it can be better. As I said, it hurts to make these, and I just can't handle working with earphones to do it, so there are lots of things I don't like when I listen back. But it will all get fixed when I combine it all to one long presentation. Every time I listen back I hear some embarrassing thing I didn't fix because I didn't listen with headphones or earphones. Like when Ramirez says she hates planets, it's way too loud.  ::)

But the cast, mostly, are always enthusiastic. Graham is WAY too perfectionist. Doing the sing along in dead rock was a pain in the ass, I wanted to tell him it was fine, only 20 people would ever listen to it anyway. But he's a Broadway performer and it's an honor to have him.

Every week I spend all day on the #AudioDramaSunday hashtag on Twitter promoting. Last week during release, I think I got one like outside of AJ's enthusiastic hearting. Man was that crushing after all that work and not a single comment or heart. But I knew that going in.

Then I was told in a private message to stop promoting, more popular projects didn't appreciate it.  >:( I won't say how I responded.

There's a difference between us and them. We don't ask for money. Don't put our work behind a paywall like some do. And we never get snotty with people who listen, unlike some of the people out there. We don't push agendas, like more and more peoplw who do this are. We're just trying to tell stories, not beg for money and make every character "queer". We're here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. But I'm all out of bubble gum and my feet hurt.  ;D

We tried to enter the fox fan film thing, but the people I talked to about making it were a tad on the shady side, so I never sent a pitch in.

But, if any artists are out there, hit me up and we'll talk.

The benefits of what you are doing may be instantaneous, or they may take a long time to be felt.  There's no way to tell.  But you definitely now have an awesome body of work that nobody can take away from you.

Famous business book author Jim Collins once wrote in his book, Good to Great, about the "Flywheel Effect".  A flywheel takes a lot of effort to get going, but once it catches, it is hard to stop.  It's about building momentum through a series of repeated, seemingly small pushes.  They all have an effect.  I can tell you that you definitely have momentum.  It's been a steady build-up.  Now you just have to figure a way to promote it right.

I guess I don't really understand what you think it is that you are entitled to. People have seemed to enjoy your series; what else are you supposed to get for it? The more views, comments, and accolades you get, the more likely Fox is going to tell you to stop. You aren't going to profit off of this, and if you got close, again, Fox would tell you to stop. Fox is the entity that chooses the artists who work in different mediums on their work, not the fans. Give me an example of a fan-created piece of media in the Alien franchise that Fox loved so much they decided they had to purchases it and start selling it. Have you ever seen the fan-film S.E.E.D? I think it's safe to say that if that movie wasn't purchased by Fox (despite its horrendous sound editing), then anyone can assume that their fan creation will not be picked up in a professional capacity.

Right...

QuoteI guess I don't really understand what you think it is that you are entitled to.

Yeah, I literally said the only thing I hope to get out of it now is not getting eaten by a mouse. The powers that be don't even know we exist, and if they did I still don't think they'd care. We're no threat to them whatsoever. Shit, there's a fan film been on youtube for 6 years that was made in 1994 and they don't care. There's a predator fan film on there for 5 years, 14 million views and apparently they don't care. But knowing my luck, they'd come right for me and leave everyone else alone.

QuoteGive me an example of a fan-created piece of media in the Alien franchise that Fox loved so much they decided they had to purchases it and start selling it.

I can't, but anyone who has delusions of that deserves to have their dreams crushed. I personally hope I never hear from them about anything. I've dealt with NDA's and film studio crap. I was under an NDA from 2008 to years later once, and when what I had to keep my mouth shut about finally happened... it wasn't worth it at all.  ::) I almost sold something to a studio in 2008, and it would have been a complete ripoff for me. So if Fox is reading this, which they aren't, please don't sue me! I don't have any money, and I live in a rat infested dump. Just count your mouse money and leave me be.

QuoteThe more views, comments, and accolades you get, the more likely Fox is going to tell you to stop.

Well, like I said if a fan film gets like 15 million views on youtube and they don't give a shit for half a decade.... yeah, they'd still come after me for getting 10 views in a year.  ::)

@Anarchist86ed: I thought part 4 was the best one yet. I like the way you're handling the elements in play. Without your discussion of the production difficulties, who would have known there was an issue with headphones and so on? I think, you and your cast make a quality product. I expect your experience could have some value toward future endeavors. Maybe you should think about some no-license-needed, original production. It's a longshot, but maybe you could provide the audio portion for some sort of animated project. If you do anything like that and find some success with it, that would be a fine reward :) In the meantime, good work and thanks for making this. I look forward to part 5 (whenever it arrives).

If you do anything like that and find some success with it, that would be a fine reward :) In the meantime, good work and thanks for making this. I look forward to part 5 (whenever it arrives).

Maybe you should think about some no-license-needed, original production.

This originally was. The crew was the same. The ship was also a clunker. They ended up on a mining planet where they found ancient aliens who were fighting each other, one side wanted to unleash a biological weapon to do their fighting for them. Then I realized it was basically Alien anyway.  ::)

Without your discussion of the production difficulties, who would have known there was an issue with headphones and so on?

Yep, and I had appendicitis earlier this year which put a halt to to the project.

Just before I got sick, I April fooled the cast with a fake Fox cease and desist. I don't think AJ ever forgave me.  But when I told them they had no idea we even existed all was forgiven.

It's a longshot, but maybe you could provide the audio portion for some sort of animated project.

With the budget of a double cheeseburger and small fries at McDonald's, that's not likely to ever happen.

You should offer your services to Audible.  Maybe it will mean we get more than 1 audio play per year.  With obviously limited resources, you made something that is comparable to a professionally budgeted production.  I listened to all of it.  It's ace!

I'm a lot of things, but delusional isn't one of them. I have a better chance at winning a free coke. ;D

Though we do use the exact same sound effects in some cases. The helmet venting sound effect for example is from alien isolation. I don't have a computer that can run it, but I found all the files for download.

Me: Hello, Audible, can I make Alien audio dramas for you?

Audible: No! f**k off.

Me: Ok.  :'(

Your quality of production is on par with anything I've heard from Audible.
Take a bow to you and your team - you deserve a lot of credit.

Thanks.  8)

The script for Charon has gone out. We're going back to Acheron to uncover all the secrets that are still there. And, yes, we will reference colonial Marines and it's "canon" of Hadley's hope.  ::)

In the meantime, here's some fun behind the scenes stuff.

When the Captain said "who kamikazed who?". This was actually my own personal reference to the original ending I had planned of Solara being kamikazed into the gold mines on Plutus. But this was cringe because it was too Deep Imapactish, Stephanie agreed it had to go.

"Dear lord baby Jesus creator of man and all things good." That's not right, is it? I don't know, but it's what a religious crazy I knew when I was a kid would say.

I know none of the cast personally, but Stephanie and AJ are friends.

Solara's registry number is 8122157, it's the Captain's birthday of August 12, 2157. But my birthday is on August 12th. The captain is technically 23, but she's still a teenager because she spent so much time in Cryo, this is why doctor Church calls her a child. I will be 200 years old when the story of Solara begins in October 2180.  ::) Technically Solara happens right around Halloween, 2180. I love Halloween, it's the only thing I look forward to all year.

"To the money" was a phrase I came up with for another project that I never got made.

Before Disney bought Fox, I wrote that Taco Bell was in line with Walmart to buy Weyland-Yutani, this reference is made again in Charon. This is of course a demolition man nod. In Charon the main character says Wey-Yu will end up like all the old fast food franchises, bought by Taco Bell for pennies on the dollar.

Captain Anderson shares the last name of a dear friend of mine, that's why I named her that.

The characters all have first names of course. John is only John though. Or J-001, his official Weyland-Yutani designation. Deckard is Philip Deckard. His name is also a reference. According to Wikipedia, the word jockey in the English language itself derives from the name John also colloquially used for boy, as cognate to the custom found in many Indo-European languages. John will live up to his name at some point. The kid is called the kid, I never did come up with a name for him. Chief is Chief, didn't come up with a name. And Ramirez is named Ramirez because Highlander was on when I was writing her. The Captain's first name is a mystery, only John and the Chief actually know it which is why the kid asked if he'd tell her, because he doesn't know it.

Roll Me Away ยท Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band is a very important song in the series.

Part 5 preview.

Fox on the run is played on a cassette tape in part 5. The Captain will ask "why is this tape labelled "awesome mix"?

The scene it's used in is described as gearing up, with the Captain removing a colonial marines patch and replacing it with a Solara crew patch. The crew then strut "awesomely" to an elevator.

The Captain tells John a story of a little girl she met on Acheron who had a kinda weird accent sometimes and wouldn't leave her alone with questions about what it was like to live in space. And how she was sorry that little girl was dead now. Who could she possibly be talking about?  :-\

Part five is the last time we hear from John until the final episode. We won't hear from Deckard until the final episode either.

I enjoyed those insights. That's so cool.

Question for you ... give Solara is so laden with Easter Eggs and nods (which I totally love by the way as they don't feel forced or cringey) is Deckard any relation to a beloved Blade Runner who may or may not have been a replicant?

Hey Anarchist, great work man, I've been listening the last few days and really am enjoying the pace, dialogue, story. Again, great work and thanks for making these audiodramas.

Really am enjoying the backstories of Deckard especially, very nice voice and dialogue too. This is what Alien-Aliens is all about, to me at least. When the story and dialogue function, things look great.

Considering I don't have Soundcloud, I should listen to this on YouTube, given that people are enjoying this, and it's early in the morning, so I'm kinda bored and scrolling through the forums. The fan section is quiet most of the time, so it's nice to see something relatively active in these parts of the forum.

I'll likely leave my feedback here. Might be some time because I've got my own projects, but I love seeing other fans pushing themselves to get their stories out there. If you have some tips (mine's writing), that'd be welcomed.

actually it's pretty much improv. No script. It might go a few episodes.

One idiot on the planet Lothos runs a company supply depot. A job they wouldn't waste an Android on. One miserable day a ship locks on to the depots beacon when it's in distress. But it's cargo of survivors from some gold mining facility brought other passengers in them.

Will this lone idiot be the only hope for these plagued survivors, or will the company finally have it's prize?

Starring a moron who can't be bothered to write a script, cast or spend more than $30 on a microphone and using a text to speech British voice as his computerized companion comes Stasis Interrupted.

That same idiot who once had a throat infection that wrecked his voice.

I've tried everything. Posted on the audio drama reddit. Spammed twitter hashtags. Used every keyword I could think of on youtube. And honestly it's amounted to almost nothing. There are people out there who put out literal garbage and suddenly have a thousand $'s a month in patreon pledges. I've been told to stop promoting so successful projects can get the attention. We never get mentioned by anyone despite my spamming. Honestly it's kinda way more trouble than it's ever going to be worth. But a friend of mine once told me if you can get enough people to listen that can fill a room, you've succeeded. He then went on to edit porn movies, as if that takes any effort at all so maybe his advice wasn't that great.

It's true that the lowest form of entertainment will always succeed. I just watched a video of a fat guy chug a whole bottle of soda and it had tens of thousands of views and comments of praise and delight at the ground breaking achievement of a fat man guzzling corn syrup and belching. The simple fact is you can try everything to promote yourself, but unless you're incredibly lucky you're going to end up with maybe a handful of people who care enough to stick around.

I can understand your frustration. It's literally the same in the writing world. Look at the stats of my stories compared to the stats of one of the ever-present "Alien-hybrid girl bangs a Predator" stories. It's incredible. I'm not the greatest writer out there, but I don't write the same crap as the rest of the website. But, you know, why read something original when you can read someone's Twilight rehash with Aliens and Predators?

Anyways, even if I've got one or two people really enjoying my work, that's good enough. I have the motivation to keep writing and keep telling the stories I'd like to tell.

Hell, the co-admin of this site likes your work. I'd be thrilled if that happened.

Yeah, I'm gonna do it myself. Problem is my voice really was wrecked years ago from an infection. I've never sounded the same since. I hate how I sound. But I work quickly. Plus I found a really good text to speech voice to use. No, I don't care if it's obvious. More or less doing it just to do it until after the holidays are mercifully over with.

I thought about adding some kind of voice effect to make me sound better, but nothing really works. I still sound like I'm gargling dog crap. I can't yell, nor can I really even speak without it still hurting all these years later. Honestly, I'm practically mute in real life. It's the worst during the winter breathing in cold air.  ::)

Yes, this is AFTER Solara. The original cringe idea was aboard Sulaco. I'm not going into details.  :-\

Well, I can PM you the original story, if you're serious. Take your time, no rush. I honestly don't mind. Feel free to go nuts, I guess. All I'd like is credit. I don't have any equipment or tech skills, though.

Currently part 5 is 39 pages and not done yet. Part 4 was only 20. So they're more or less 20+ pages on average.

Lockmart CM-88B Bison M-Class starfreighter. Solara is presumably the last one still operational.

We aim to please!  ;D

Stephanie told me to recast her so the project could move forward. Ships second motto: Never leave family behind. Her education and future is more important and would be even if she was getting paid to do this. So we'll wait for her or until she says she definitely can't do it anymore.

As for Charon, there's been a minor snag. AJ got a friend of his to do a pivotal role, but she's NO voice actress. So she's quite frankly not what you'd expect to hear so I had to alter the character into a damaged android.

I also changed Stasis: Interrupted into an entirely different story. That'll be a one man show with a text to speech computer voice because I'm sick and tired of casting people.

Charon, Part One.

LV-426 still has many secrets. Secrets Administrator Carter wants to get his hands on. Listen to "Mr. Deckard" to get to know administrator Carter.

Now for all that fun behind the scenes stuff and Easter eggs.

Acheron is not a planet, it's a moon. But no one seems to get it right. No one wants to live on a moon, but those who should know it's not a planet should always refer to it as such anyway. This will be a long running joke.

AJ kept saying "Florina", so eventually we'll just say no one can get that right either, because some even call it Fiori 16.

Moon river sung by Louis Armstrong. It foreshadows Carter's fate of ending up on Acheron. Moon and river being appropriate because Acheron is a moon, and Acheron means river of pain. AJ suggested Carter be a fan of Armstrong.

Wakey wakey eggs and bakey from Kill Bill. Kylen says it to Carter as his cryo pod opens, much like it was done in the film.

AJ's audio for carter was not good at all, so I had to add reverb to make him sound like he was in a small room. He recorded with his friend, that's why his audio is different with her. He was moving at the time, so I didn't ask him to do it again. We're not making a penny doing this, so I don't ever want to pressure people for any do overs.

Kylen was originally going to be played by our Captain, Stephanie Carlson, but she's too busy wasting her life away getting a PHD to do it. She was going to make the character British. She was to be a hard drinking ass kicking bang anyone she wanted type. We literally could not get anyone else to take the roll, so AJ got a friend of his to do it. She is not a voice actor at all, so the character was changed to a damaged Brothel droid which will come up later as to why she sounds "off".

The Merc on the phone was the guy who shot Morse on Fiorina, regrets not knee capping Ripley because it cost him his pay.

Wey-Yu bought another space station from Seegson, who are now long defunct apparently.

Scripted but not recorded: Carter originally was having a conversation with his secretary after the state of the company report. He talked about Wey-Yu ending up like all the old fast food franchises, bought out by Taco Bell for pennies on the dollar. This of course was a nod to demolition man. Carter also discussed Disney's low bid to buy Wey-Yu and that Walmart was currently out bidding them. This was a subtle nod to Comcast fighting Disney for Fox. During the fly over of the Hadley's Hope, I scripted Kylen spotting a Colonial Marines APC, to which Carter would have informed her there were Marines stations at the colony. Both a reference to the abandoned APC from Aliens  and river of pain. Also originally scripted was as the transport flew away from the colony we'd hear the sound of what we'd assume to be a Human observing. I was actually considering making this person Hudson, who would have survived and ended up escaping the clutch of the alien. But this was beyond stupid, so I dropped it.

How the hell is this possible? How could the colony have survived intact? There was an easy way out of it being nuked by the processor. The company is, as we know, not all that concerned about peoples lives but they are concerned about their profits. Building weapons of mass destruction that would annihilate their investments didn't make much sense, so the engineers designed them to air burst in the event of catastrophic failure, or to chastise colonists who might get it in their heads that they didn't need the company anymore. So as they destroy themselves, they channel the energy up, not out. So what you got was an air burst nuked the size of Nebraska. This is also a way of explaining how anything could have been so intact in Colonial Marines, which is NOT canon in our story.

The storm shutters are sealed.

We learn Wey-Yu basically blamed Burke for the destruction of the colony. Especially in the commercial aboard Gateway. If you go back and listen to Mr. Deckard, Carter mentions that Burke could have done this from any functioning terminal if he deemed the colony un-salvageable. But didn't Burke know what would happen, did he have a plan to escape the concussive blast and radiation? Yes, he had a plan to gather specimens on his own, which Carter did not want, and encourage the recovery of the drop ship. It never made sense to me that them shooting their guns would cause such a disaster with the processor. So in our canon, Burke did get greedy, did set the processor to air burst and he did this in the hopes of encouraging a rescue attempt. The plan went well, till it all went wrong. Later in the series, Carter will discover evidence of Burke's actions.

Spoiler: In part 2, Carter will discover Newt's "Hidey Hole" and will end up keeping Newt's citizenship award picture.

It's good. I enjoyed it. The music is a lot louder than the voices. I listened in car and that was different than listening while working at my computer. I think it's too early to talk about the details.

Yes I know. I couldn't balance them. AJ's audio was all over the place. He admits it was bad and low. But as I said... No complaining for redo.

The music too was a problem. I couldn't boost some of it at all, some was too high even lowered. We more or less have a "just shut up and deal with it" policy.

I'm hoping in the future AJ will redo his lines and I can fix it. But as I said he was moving, and I think it's rude to ask for a second go when this is all done for free.

No matter. I enjoyed it. I'm sure other people will too. :)

Forgot you already said so much in the easter eggs. Kylen sounded a little off, yes, and she's duplicitous! D: Oh wait... Android in an Alien(s) story. So we have head of spec ops, Carter; and Burke is actually Carter Burke, and Carter was Burke's boss. Hmm... :D

I never had a problem with the idea that marines firing and accidentally detonating a bag of grenades deep inside the structure could leave the atmosphere processor in a bad way. It's not that the actual reactor would be damaged, but the cooling and control systems could be a different story, with the injured/dying creatures gushing acid all over and the fact that the marines used armor piercing ammo. We also have no idea what effect the Aliens had on their environment while living there. If Burke could set the processor to overload from anywhere, he might also have been able to shut it down from anywhere. Seems a bit convoluted in story terms, but it's an interesting idea. I'll be happy to see where it goes. Thanks to you and your crew.

The good thing about not being canon is we can make up any story we like and not be worried about disrupting established canon. Disney won't ever hire me to do anything Alien so it doesn't matter at all what story we tell.  ;D

Carter was Burke's boss.  ;D

But the characters named after AJ... AJ Carter, so it just kinda referenced it's self.

Yeah, but you expose another plot hole with the acid. Sometimes it's strong enough to melt a star ships hull, other times it can't melt rubber. So I dismissed that as a factor. And the shooting and explosives were also dismissed as we can assume the processor was not that fragile. All those bullets would have had to have gone through layers of resin, metal, electronics... you name it in order to do damage. So I dismissed all that.

Certainly Burke could have shut it down before it reached no return, but his plans didn't work out. Greed is a powerful enemy.

As I've said, Colonial Marines is not canon in our story. If the processor was as destructive as claimed, the colony wouldn't have survived at all but in the game it seemed largely intact. So I took that theme and went with it explaining it as simply the processor was designed to boom UP, not out. The company would look really bad with those things basically being colony annihilating nukes, who'd want to live close to that? But the company being the company they had other motives, namely to teach lessons to colonies that were thinking about going independent and cutting the company out. It's no different than companies who try to force you to upgrade your phone, or make new gaming consoles every few years forcing you to invest even more money into them.

The company blames the whole thing on Burke, the perfect patsy. They had to come up with some reason the colony was "obliterated", he was as good a reason as any. But... the CEO doesn't know anything about what really happened. He doesn't know about the aliens. I decided to not make Wey-Yu completely evil in that regard. Carter most likely kept the higher ups from knowing about Ripley and her story, difficult as that might sound a company as massive as Wey-Yu is certain to not prioritize some things for the higher ups. After all, most dismissed Ripley as being nuts and there's no need to burden the CEO and the executives with this matter, the insurance guys will deal with it, that's what they're paid for. Carter simply kept the whole thing quiet, no need to trouble the CEO with the stories of a mad woman and her alien monsters. But the CEO did apparently read some of the report at some point, but obviously didn't pay much attention to it. Ripley was dead by then, and he didn't even know why colonial admin sent marines to Acheron. So he was basically in the dark about all of it. Ripley could have still been alive for all he knew, and didn't care.

Charon takes place after Solara so when the CEO asks if the mines on Plutus are lost, we can assume something very bad happened there and severely damaged Wey-Yu's financial situation. But, no, they don't know aliens were involved. Carter doesn't know what really happened.

Carter was the one actually responsible for the events of Aliens, not Burke. Burke was only following his orders. Carter, though appearing to not be a good guy, is not evil. He regrets what happened, he knows it's probably his fault. He, in a sense, adopts Rebecca Jorden. He finds her picture in the hidey hole and keeps it as a reminder that she's dead because of him, and he wonders how long she survived there before the monsters got her. He hopes to not find what's left of her on their inspection of the colony. It'll be asked many times if she's his daughter because he keeps the picture on his desk in the way a father would. I've already decided that sometimes he'll even talk to her, because she's the first victim of his actions he encounters. The knowledge of his actions weigh on him mentally. I haven't decided if she'll ever respond to him. But it would be a good way to show his mental breakdown over the guilt. He also learns her father was the first to be infected, and that will make things way worse. Worse even when his team finds the decaying corpses of Newt's mother and brother with other colonists.

I've also toyed with the idea of him making a holographic Newt based on colony records and vid files, making her live again in a sense. Maybe his way of trying to fix what he did to her. But I dunno.

The colony is simply to interesting, so I had to bring it back. There are so many secrets to uncover.

We'll have to agree to disagree about some of the particulars. As I said, I can accept a lot of your premise as setup for your story. I love your enthusiasm, btw. It's wonderful, but I think you're saying too much too soon. I'd rather learn more about the characters from the audiocast. It's better if you let things unfold in the story. Then we can talk about it.

One point about the CEO discussion report at the beginning: I imagine, WY is big. Hadley's Hope and the leadworks Fiorina 161 are both at the hind end of space. 150 colonists is hardly even a news report. No one would know anything about either of them, and I doubt any of that would have a big a impact on WY's bottom line.

Whatever happened on Plutus, the numbers seem large enough that Acheron is not going to change the outcome. $180 million for the Sulaco is nothing to $1.8 trillion. Not nearly enough zeros! It's like looking for pocket change to pay rent. Plus, WY seems like more of a tech company than a mining company. They're involved in all that, but it's probably run through a subsidiary. And spec ops would be a whole other division, too - Off the books, even. I know. Nit-picking. But still, it's a fun story.

So, when will the next chapter be along?

Not the Sulaco, the Shinyo Maru, a private Wey-Yu ship. The Sulaco is not mentioned in our tale. And Wey-Yu does have mining subsidiaries as we know, in our canon they eliminated Kelland Mining, likely just absorbing it's resources and infrastructure and re-branding it. But it's still Wey-Yu. Like we'll still call Fox FOX, but we know it's owned by Disney and Fox will do the dirty work of releasing R rated movies. Same deal. Wey-Yu has subsidiaries to do the mining, but it's still Wey-Yu.

Charon is all that's going smoothly right now. And even then we've had nothing but trouble casting.

I'm having enough problems that I can't get TheSailingRabbit's project going either. Hopefully as Summer approaches people will get more freed up.

It's like I tell AJ. If I offered to pay, I'd have so many auditions I'd never get through them.

AJ and his friends had more fun recording part 2 than I did writing it or putting it together.

Part 2 drops on 4/26.

I've shared your casting call on our socials, shared it in all the big Alien groups on Facebook and also on the Alien Reddit.

Yes AJ says the same thing.  ::) He says I insult myself too much.

This project was supposed to end... literally in less than 2 weeks from now. I wanted to move on by now. But I made a promise to finish it and I'm going to try. Even though hope is quickly fading and I may inevitably have no choice but to dump it anyway. I was hoping by this time I'd be working on the very last episode and ready to let it go. So it's hard to be positive about something when you're constantly being slapped back. We do it just for fun, but believe it or not some people take it more seriously than I do.

But hey... it's all smiles and sunshine from here on.  ;)

There's nothing wrong with a bit of self deprecating (within reason) but I just mean if you're putting across you don't enjoy making the things, it doesn't really send a positive message to people that they might enjoy listening.

I do enjoy it. It's fun to put together. Putting the bar scene in part 2 together was fun, got to mix in some hot 80's club music. Enjoyed going back to med-lab at Hadley's hope. Enjoyed finding a special sound effect for Carter's gun, a fun reference in it's self.

What I don't enjoy is putting so much time and effort into it and then actors either leaving or worse what happens 99.9% of the time, they stop responding to emails and vanish without a trace. Leaving because of life is a great excuse. Leaving without so much as a goodbye not so much. I've lost so many projects because of what I call "voice actors disease" which causes sudden vanishing, never to be heard from again. I once had a paying project, and they still got infected and I never heard from them again. The fun is making it, the not so fun part is the casting. AJ is the only person I've ever had who's reliable.

And AJ said the same thing.  ::)

Some people have huge egos, I have the anti-ego. I suck and I know it.  ;D

Charon, part 2 is finished compiling. But there's soooooooo much work to do. So much audio on the left, or the right and not centered. So much level work to do. But we'll still make it for 4/26.

I kept the references to a minimum this time. Only Die Hard, Innerspace, star trek and river of pain get referenced. And a Niell Blomkamp movie. But that's all.

And Top Gun, but it's only one line. I swear.

And pisswasser.

And star wars.

From darkness to light.  ;D

Still, we'll lose Graham soon. Homies been on TV shows, he ain't got time for us.

And, yes, we require a Newt... Long term. I think you'll like how we bring her back to life. She's a vital part of Charon.

Recently listened your work. Pretty good actually. It was enjoyable spending of few hours.

I like idea of incorporating elements of Prometheus and Covenant lore in more traditional Alien's set. Paul Church was really something i'd never see coming  :) John is pretty interesting character and i like his own short story you produced.

So, good stuff indeed, Waiting patiently for more of this.

Now comes the fun references and story info! Yay!

'It's a planet. It's a moon. Whatever." A similar conversation happened in rive of pain.

Both songs used in the bar were used in another 80's scifi movie, Innerspace. In fact they were used in the same way I used them.

"I got that lovin' feeling." Is a top gun nod, albeit not as strong as the one I wrote for part 3.

Hicks' shotgun sound effect in the APC.

Some say Vasquez's smart gun was tossed out of the APC, but I don't think so. And as I've said, we're not going with Colonial Marines canon so I left it in the APC to be found and claimed.

Kylen reads the same document that Bishop did in the med-lab.

They mention one of the facehuggers being decayed on an examination table. It's the one Bishop was fooling around with that's been rotting away for 2 years. I don't know exactly where he did that, but I guessed it was med-lab.

"I wonder if there's a bar around here." That's a nod to the bar sign you see at the colony.

Bay 14, section 31. If you know anything about star trek, you'd know article 14, section 31. Carter's mission is a covert one and highly classified.

McClaren is an obvious name drop, though no relation to the Ripley family.

The mercenaries find Newt's citizenship award picture in her hiding spot.

Henn, Weaver and Cameron are all mercenaries.

Why do I keep bringing up piss water? Because of Water World.

The gun sound effect is the one used in Die Hard 2. I didn't like the "Pop-A-Cha" sound from the first movie. AJ had a choice of sound effects to use including the Beretta from Lethal Weapon, he chose Die Hard.

Fun fact: The Beretta used in both Die Hard and Lethal Weapon was the exact same gun.

Shit sounds 80s. 1980s, not 2180s. Charon is based on Aliens, a 1980s movie and therefore takes much of it's nostalgia from it.

Elysium station is in orbit of Acheron.

Carter mentions the fate of the mercs from Mr. Deckard and how they ended up when their contract was terminated.

The scrolling text of the computer in med-lab is a staple of 80s movie and TV computer readout sound effects.

Wilhelm scream.

Smacking technology around till it works is always a tried and true method to get something to work right.

Yes, I know the APC was "wasted" but was it? Was it really? Or was it because it was scripted but the special effect they did never got put in?

"Nothing but rain" Whaddaya hear, Starbuck? Nothing but the rain, Sir. I was watching a lot of BSG as I was writing.

Didn't you know you can fry up half a city with a particle beam weapon?

Running a bypass to open the door.

Easier to clone than breed them. It seems in the future they had to clone one to breed them.

The Draco Double Burner makes a second appearance, it was in Mr. Deckard. Carter mentions the company owns them and that they are bulky and crude, unlike the slimmer and more advanced design of the future.

Carter kept the picture of Newt, it sits on his desk. It triggers him into an emotional meltdown.

Carter mentioned Newt could have been a school teacher. In case you didn't know, that's exactly what she grew up to be in real life.

The hologram on sound effect is just from a star trek game. And for some reason the mobile holographic emitter in our universe is more advanced than the one in Voyager because it's autonomous like the PUPs and can project an image that's indistinguishable from a real object or person.

Kylen was badly damaged by a woman, not a man.

Yes, the NewtOgram is dressed like she is in the award picture.

No, she is not going to be voiced by Carrie Henn. We would never bother her with something like this.

Why bring Newt back at all? Because I never liked that she was killed off, that's why.

How can the NewtOgram have memories? In part 3 we talk about how the company monitored everything that went on there. Surveillance cameras and microphones were everywhere. The colony was their investment, they wanted to make sure no one was up to shenanigans that might cause them problems so they would record and analyze everything the colonists said or did without them ever knowing they were being spied on. The computer uses the vast amounts of data collected to make a simulation of Newt, though it didn't have enough of surveillance data on her to simulate a 100% accurate memory for her. For example, the NewtOgram doesn't have any memory of going to the derelict. Nor will it ever say "mostly" because events like that happened outside of surveillance monitoring. But she does remember most of the events of river of pain. And up until the aliens cut the power. After that, there was no more surveillance monitoring and the computer could not simulate memory for her. I now it's a stretch to explain giving her memories, but we all know the company would certainly spy on the colonists to make sure they weren't plotting anything that would harm the bottom line for them.

I hope so, for your sake. You should know where that's from.

Now, of course, time for all those fun references and stuff.

Newt speaks with a hint of British. As you may know, Carrie Henn had a British accent when she made aliens. Our excuse is the computer couldn't fully replicate her voice because of the way she'd say certain words and just made her sound more British. Carter will mention this in part 4.

Newt plays a short clip from Aliens, then she has no more memory because all of the companies surveillance gear blacked out because "they cut the power".

Turning into a steamed ham. If you ever watched the Simpsons, you'd know.

Doggo. This shouldn't be something people in a retro futuristic society would say, right? Wrong. Because the concept of a selfie exists in the alien universe, a character in out of the shadows wanted to take a selfie with a dead queen.

Carter drops 5/25/79. The release date of this episode and also for Alien in 1979.

Anthony may have been related to Tony Soprano, and is cut off by Carter before he can explain what happened to his family one day.

Cinnamon toaster pastries SUCK.

Pepsi Perfect, the future is now. "We've all seen the commercial" Not only a reference to Back To The Future, but to the fake commercial for the product. Apparently BTTF is canon in our Alien universe since Pepsi Perfect is still made in 2181 and is like tradition.

Carter tries to explain why the company was Weylan-Yutani for a while, but gets cut off.

Beat it, robot. This don't concern you. Another BTTF reference. 3-D says "Hey, beat it, spook. This don't concern you."

McClaren mentions a bounty on some terrorists who caused some trouble on Plutus. The crew of Solara, or someone has a large bounty on their heads, but Kylen reminds us it's all classified. Charon takes place AFTER Solara.

Kylen uses "easy street" to punish the mercenary for his actions. Negan did the same thing to Daryl. A mercenary also says easy peasy lemon squeezy, yet another TWD reference. We've used it several times.

Thanks to YouTube I had to change the song during the "dance". This actually works out better, the other song was slow, and didn't sync with the retro 80's vibe we've been going with in the series.

Carter lies through his teeth about what happened to Ripley and the Marines.

The actress who performs newt is not a child, she just graduated high school.

"Bit on the nose". McClaren is just mentioning the song is the beginning of a romantic story between them.

The mercs say "copy that". It's a thing in the audible dramas.

"I don't actually work here."

Fine Kentucky red-eye. Buford Tannen enjoyed this drink.

I think we kept it kinda light on references this time since we focused on character development.

As always, enjoyed. I loved the nod to Specimen with the synthetic dog. Newt's actress does a great job sounding younger. Am curious to see how the Aliens get introduced into the story.

Actually the synth dog was written in before I saw that.

And they're coming. With a bit of snip snip and gobble gobble.

We've run into problems. Heat being among them. when the temp in your room of your crap apartment reaches high enough to reheat a burger in your sun blazed window and liquefy the cheese, you don't really feel like doing anything let alone working on something ya don't even get paid for.

And for the foreseeable future temperatures will be hitting the mid 90's, with feels likes up past 105.

part 5 will release on the 12th of August. As for Charon, I don't know. AJ's having some issues and he just up and quit on me and won't respond to me, so it looks like 3 episodes is all you're gonna get for now.

Humans. If only I could use a text to speech program that sounded realistic, I wouldn't need them anymore.

Yeah, and it's torpedoed Bunnies project too. He was a big part of it and had someone else doing a role I can't contact about it. So that's screwed too.

Still refuses to respond to me, so the future of these projects is in question since he was a big part of them.

It's with great sadness I must announce Charon will not be continuing.

AJ promised he would stick with Solara and Charon to the end, but I knew that wasn't going to be true at all. He won't even respond to my messages, and he had all the recordings for the next episode. I simply don't have the time or the energy to try casting anymore. Voice actors are the most unreliable people to deal with. I've never finished a single project because of them. They always flip out, disappear or eventually refuse to respond to messages. This situation is no different.

As soon as $ was mentioned, I knew it was over. Long story short, that's a reason Solara has been stalled so long too. Also his friends didn't want to do it anymore and I told him I wasn't going to just stop because of that.

So I hope you enjoyed the three episodes we were able to make. I just can't try to recast. You have no idea how much of a nightmare it is these days.

As for Solara, I don't know. 5 is done, but after that I don't know.

I have to admit I am... furious with AJ. So furious I'm considering not only casting other people, but telling them they can do patreons.

I had a fantastic story to tell with Charon. And I am absolutely livid that I can't continue it. I get no one wants to work for free, I certainly don't, but I know I'll never get one penny for doing this.

Projects shouldn't die because of one person.  >:(

Recasting is officially underway.

And I know it sounds scummy, but I'm allowing patreons. No direct profiting whatsoever will be tolerated. I told AJ and everyone else they could use this to promote their work and patreons but could never ask for money for it under any circumstances. But no one ever listens and expects me to dig into my empty pockets to pay them.  ::)

So expect when I release episodes to include patreons, if that's permitted. There will not be one for me because I know I will never, ever get anything. There are people on YouTube who make edits of stranger things season three and are getting hundreds in patreon money. But I'm not bitter at all. Just slowly losing my mind.  ;D

Ok. Humor my ignorance. Why does that sound scummy? What do you do? Say, "I worked as a voice actor on this excellent fan production called __. Listen to it here. If you like my work, you can support me on Patreon!" Something like that? And what makes you so sure people won't throw a little cash your way to fund future efforts? So sure of that are you?
Title: Re: Alien: Solara - New Audio Drama!
Post by: Anarchist86ed on Aug 03, 2019, 01:28:23 PM
I vowed no profit of any kind. But AJ wanted to make money. Former cast members wanted money. I told them they could promote patreons, but it wasn't good enough, they wanted guaranteed $. I suspect if we had a patreon that made money, I'd still have most of the cast. Graham performs on Broadway and in TV shows, I've all but excused him from continuing as well. Can't blame him, we're nothing to him even though he wouldn't say it. I have nothing more to do with AJ, but I understand he's getting paid work now, and despite how he left, which was in a way that guarantees I will not work with him again on principal, I'm thrilled for him. I hope he gets rich and famous. Wish him nothing but the best. But we will never work together again. He was to be a big part of new $ projects, but sadly he won't be joining them. I have lots of things planned.

And no, no one would ever give me a single penny. I'm not complaining. There will be no patreon for me. Solara helped me cast a for profit project though. Even then, I'll never make enough for a trip to McDonald's for the dollar menu. It's the way it is.

We have our new cast for Charon.

I want to say a big thanks to Xenohunter for auditioning. I got some really great auditions at the last minute and I had to go with them. One guy really wanted to do as many as roles as I could throw at him, and given the problems with casting I couldn't say no to a multiple role taker.

But we will get Xeno into a project. I'm still working on salvaging Bunnies project, which was destroyed in the recent outbreak of V.A. disease as well.

I'll be making a new topic to replace this mess with the Corporals approval, but I don't have time right now.

Part 5.

The crew of Solara find themselves in a desperate situation with the deadliest creatures in the universe. And the man who wants to control them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbIzM-7WTHw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbIzM-7WTHw)

Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zsozxzwf8naj2q5/AlienSolaraPart5.mp3?dl=0

As always, there's lots of fun stuff hidden in the show.

FUN. STUFF.  ::) Literally this was no fun to make. At all. It started production last December for cryin' out loud. So with that, here's the fun little references and stuff.

The chief and Ramirez briefly discuss how their voices are different and that no one will probably even notice. Losing both people who originally did the voices had to be explained somehow. And no one will ever mention the voices being different anyway, which was a sad reference only I understand.

Gorman's sidearm sound effect. Someone was able to acquire it after I asked for it.

You can kinda hear a sentry gun firing.

Operations alarm in the background.

The Captain fires a pulse rifle much the same way Ripley does the first time.

"The three amigos", the prospectors and Jack are the ones responsible for the events of the series. The prospectors found the eggs, and Jack was stealing Gold that brought Deckard to Solara and then the rest of the events unfold.

I wrote the scene between the Captain with Stephanie in Mind long ago, but since we lost her that scene between our new Captain and the prospector lost its meaning.

A dual cassette boombox would be considered state of the art in the alien universe. In ours you can literally find them rotting away on a curb somewhere. Not far from where I live someone tried to dump what was at some point a very expensive boombox in the trash. But it never got picked up and no one ever took it. It's been decaying on the side of an abandoned building for years. So that's where I got the idea from. In the spring it gets covered with grass. In the fall it gets covered by the fall leaves. In the winter it gets covered in snow. You'd almost feel sorry for it.

Awesome mix tape.

Tarzan boy literally plays every time I shop at Kroger.

"She looks like a Stephanie". Was an obvious reference before she left.

when coming up with the idea for the 5th episode, I thought how cool it would be, if this were visual, with the crew gearing up while fox on the run plays. In my head the crew is all geared up, heavily armed and looking bad-ass as they head to the lift. I imagined the Captain had a sucker in her mouth and Church tried to slip away from the group only to be grabbed by the Chief and dragged back. This all takes place in slow motion. And the lift begins to descend as a certain part of the music hits. It doesn't quite translate to audio though.

No one stays behind to blow the bomb. I remember I was watching Armageddon when I was writing.

The bangs on the door are the same sound effect used in Stargate SG-1 when something would impact the iris.

Church doesn't say who's giving the orders. Foreshadowing something else I was planning but probably will never get to due to all the problems I've had with this.

Church mentions Hadley's Hope wasn't nuked because the processor air bursted. This was written long before Charon was even an idea.

The "nuke" is very important to the final episode.

Final performance by AJ Carter as John which is why he is mentions as "was" in the credits.

Now that AJ is gone, the need to change the ending of the series is required. He had the first lines of the series, was to have the last. Losing him completely obliterated a very emotional ending I had planned.

I teased what would have been a continuation of the series after this ended when John talked about food and water on the engineer ship. This is no longer a possibility.

Our new Captain said Solara wrong. I did not ask her to do it again because I was honestly unbelievably angry with former cast at the time and couldn't stand to bother with it anymore.

I did not ask our new Ramirez to record in better quality. I was still angry and didn't want to take it out on the new crew.

The major reason this took almost a year from the last episode was: Stephanie left to pursue her education. Absolutely no problem there. Another left for real life. And the rest because of money. Graham never left, nor did he become a diva. He even offered to do the credits for me even after I told him not to waste his time with this anymore.

We make sure to mention Fox is owned by Disney now.

Things I wrote that got cut out:

I wrote church offering a "5 day all expenses paid pass to Disney planet" as a bribe to the Captain, to which she responded with "I still couldn't afford it". Because Disney will never, ever be cheap. But I cut it out.

Originally the Xenomorph was going to grab the power loader from behind and Jack would scream about it trying to "mate" with him. But I thought it'd be funnier to have John punch it.

I wrote a scene with the chief and kid raiding operations and finding "Jalapeno cheese dip and Doritos". When I was a kid during Summer vacation my friends and I would guzzle Pepsi and eat tons of Fritos Jalapeno cheese dip and Doritos while playing video games damn near 24/7. It was a personal reference. Pointless otherwise.

What to expect from the final episode?

Even though I have to change the ending, I'm still firm on what happens during the final scene and into final credits. I always knew Solara would end while Roll me away plays. And believe it or not, it's a very important song to the series.

Production problems aside, I thought the episode was pretty good. If you never talked about the difficulties or mentioned any drama behind the scenes, no one would know. It might be to your benefit over time to accentuate the positive when you're talking about these things. From a "get people aboard as fans" perspective, some positivity would be great! At the end of the day, you and your crew have produced a pair of surprisingly high quality audio series. Cheers and applause to all that. Be proud of what you've done. It's good! :D

If you dealt with what I have you'd find it hard to be positive. The only fun I had on this one was putting it together. Just as I was finishing it I basically got told to F word myself because this doesn't pay. Twice actually. I told everyone many times they could use it on their patreons to promote, just never, ever... EVER ask for money directly because of it. But it wasn't as good as trying to stick hands into my empty pockets I guess. I got offers for donations to my patreon that I do not have and I flatly refused every offer.  ::) The cast of Charon have been informed they can promote patreons in the credits if they want. So far, no one has given me any patreon information. Just requests to advertise other things they do.

I thought so! Just another one of those sound design things that helps root the show in Aliens. I thought that was ace.

Apparently the guy has some kind of access to sound effects used in movies and TV shows. He even has the sound effect of the grenade launcher from Terminator 2. He either has the real ones, or uses a process to record them from the source. I don't know, but either way I've used his work a lot.

8. But I can't keep going with all the problems I've had.

That's fair. I appreciate you even finishing it off given the issues. I've listened to a few dramas before were it doesn't end.

QuoteIf you dealt with what I have you'd find it hard to be positive. The only fun I had on this one was putting it together.

I get that mate, I really do. But it's just about PR. If interactions with you are negative, and you seem to hate the experience of making the dramas, it's not going to be too enticing for people to come and interact with you. It's just about that public face.

I love what you've done and really want it to get the attention it deserves.

I agree with Hicks. It's good you're going to finish. It's about the PR. Love your work. It should get the attention it deserves.

Love, love the shows and the little nods to the expanded Alien Universe. Charon is my favourite,as its really interesting take on colony aspect and story wise could go on forever which i love.

Keep up the good work!!

I don't interact well with Humans.  ;D Humans have never failed thus far to betray me.  ::)

Charon has had its troubles too.  ::)

But I refused to let one person destroy it. We've got a new cast and a new mission. Part 4 is well underway. No release scheduled yet though. Despite its calamity, I think it is a good one.

All I'll spoil is: removed before embryo implantation.  :D

Note to the Corp: will remake topic soon.
