I think you're overestimating how well known that movie was.

They probably figured you could have somebody piss against the wall for two hours and call it Alien 2, and it would still do 30 million...  :P

Yeah, I think it was Giler or Hill who said that.

I was obviously paraphrasing a bit but the original comment went: "You could have somebody piss against the wall for two hours and call it Alien 3, and it would still do 30 million... "

I don't know who said it, but the quote comes from David Fincher paraphrasing an unnamed executive.
