You can't really call anything creaated before Prometheus as a rip-off though.

Requel: A movie which revisits the subject matter of an earlier film but is not a remake or a linear continuation of its plot (i.e. a sequel or prequel).

There is also a thing called spiritual successor, although it doesn't fit too much in this thread. But I do think Ridley's upcoming 'Raised by Wolves' TV series is like a spiritual successor of what Scott had in mind for Covenant 2.

Prometheus rips off Planet of the Vampires (as does Alien), not the other way around. Or is the thread also for films that inspired the prequels?

I may be wrong, but I'd say that Prometheus is a ripoff of "Planet of the Vampires" and a requel of "Mission to Mars".

Right, but a Prometheus requel would be a movie that is a requel of Prometheus, not a film that Prometheus is a requel of. Again, it would refer to films that came after, not before.

(Like I get what you mean now, just that it's worded confusingly).
