Title: Aliens - Crowe and Wierzbowski
Post by: NecronomIV on May 24, 2023, 01:34:18 PM
Hi All,

Just looking for a little help.

I've watched ALIENS a ridiculous amount of times and I have a hard time trying to work out who Crowe and Wierzbowski are. Do they have any dialogue at any point? Any scenes or action? Can someone post a screenshot with them in?

I just can't figure those guys out.

Thanks in advance.

Now, I've been studying ALIENS in pretty much hyper-molecular detail and I've realised something about Crowe and Wierzbowski.

It always bothered me, in the interviews or literature, somoene says something like "Even the characters who die early you get a sense of who they are and the loss of them". I dare say someone can pick out the exact quote from somewhere.

But Crowe and Wierzbowski, that's not true.

You have to look carefully to see them. Wierzbowski has no dialogue (other than possibly a scream at the last). Crowe I think has one line (off screen at that).

Then I discovered: they're stunt guys. They're not really characters, just there to flesh out the numbers of marines, and do some stunt work. I'm amazed that Crowe even got that one line.

Wierzbowski's lack of dialogue may even have allowed the production to pay him less (this is a UK thing).

And lastly, having identified Wierzbowski, I noticed a goof. When Apone says "Wierzbowski! Come on 'ski, on your feet", said character is on the left side of the screen, on his feet, and getting something out of his locker!

Back in the old days of the internet there used to be a site called the Wierzbowski hunters,.....that hunted for Weirzbowski in the film.

Technically you hear Wierzbowski scream.

The Aliens are less than lethal in the movie, which is a disappointment, since the Marines were almost as good as killing themselves and each other as the Aliens were.  Wierzbowski was technically killed by the Aliens, and we don't even get to see it.

No, it's Spunkmyer and always has been him that talks to Bishop while he's disecting the facehugger.

Yeah, Spunkmeyer, Bishop and Ferro are the only ones absent from the massacre of Sublevel-C.

It's sort of suprising that Bishop was left behind when Ferro and Spunkmeyer take off, but there are a few odd things that happen in ALIENS because the Plot Requires It.

I think the plan was to pick Bishop up after collecting the Marines. The Marines needed urgent evac because of the threat of the Aliens and the hive in close proximity to them. Ferro and Spunkmyer are shown as already being on/by the dropship while Bishop still seems to be in Operations at that moment.

i always  wondered how Spunkmeyer got from the dropship to bishop's lab . wasnt he supposed to be with ferro at the dropship? how far was the dropship "standing station"   from the colony complex? a mile or so?

Right outside the front door, more or less.

He's delivering science material to Bishop from the Dropship. Apologies to sound blunt but it's made obvious. He wheels in containers of (chemicals, equipment etc) for Bishop. Also the movie does clearly state the landing pad is right outside the colony. I mean Ripley and Hicks literally ride an elevator and the doors open to Bishop and the Dropship (I realise its meant to be implied they walked a short while down a corridor!).

No the landing pad wasn't a mile out from the colony. How would that make sense for any ship delivering to the colony? And to think Ripley carried Hicks 1 mile to Bishop and the dropship? The door literally opens from the colony and they both stagger out and Ripley starts talking to Bishop!

Didn't they plan to nuke the colony from orbit?

dont worry about it. i can be deciededly  annoying sometimes. as it isn't the topic at hand.

also just wondered if the deleted scenes added to the DC  has any bearing on the dialogue of W AND C. but dont think so.

They do not.

There is deleted material of Hicks dragging Wierzbowksi away and propping him up against a pillar, then going back to check on Crowe.  We then see him turn Crowe over and Wierzbowksi screams.  Hicks turns to find him gone.

It's been bugging me: did Crowe and Wierzbowski have any more lines in any version of the script and/or novelization?

Yes. Some of the lines were given to Crowe.

On the Sulaco and in the hive. I think it was Weirzbowski whose lines are given. @SM  knows more

All Wierzbowski's scripted dialogue was given to Frost, leaving him with no lines apart from "OhohoooohohaaaaaAARARRGGHhhhhhhhhh..."

Crowe's only line was 'You always say that Frost. You always say "I got a bad feeling about this drop"'. In the novel he has one or two more lines during the breakfast scene.  Just banter really.

Dammit I meant Frost too.

All of Frost's dialogue in the mess hall was 'bowski originally. He had a small moment with Ripley when she enters the colony, and he had a line when they were told to disarm. The "harsh language" line was originally Hudson's, and I think Hudson got 'bowski's "What, is he f**king crazy?" line instead.

So, after having Rico Ross on board to play Frost, his part was molded from several other characters to make him stand out more? Does that explains these lines transferred from one character to the other?

I'm not sure which came first, the casting or the final draft of the script.

I recall reading here Ross was supposed to shot Full Metal Jacket around that time , but ended up being cast on Aliens instead.

Cameron apparently pushed to have him in the movie, and gave him more lines in the final product. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Yeah, Cameron said he'd give Ricco more lines if he did Aliens instead of Full Metal Jacket. The final draft is dated September 23rd, filming started in September (I don't have exact date or Rinzler's book to hand to check exact date).
