Hello, all!
I've recently decided to throw Prometheus into the Final Cut app with many of it's Blu-Ray deleted scenes. I did not take any scene out of this edit that are in the original theatrical film, because I already enjoy mostly everything in the film. I kept out deleted scenes that looked incomplete or simply felt too rough to be incorporated into a coherent and fully watchable version. I sadly don't have the ability to make them look complete - I would've loved to have the back and forth between David and Vickers as he's leaving the Juggernaut and she's headed down to the cargo bay to prevent Holloway from coming on board, but it's just too rough of a cut.
I feel some of these key scenes make the movie more enjoyable as they elaborate upon some of the character's motives, the choices they make, as well as help us understand how certain characters come to the conclusions they seem to make so easily in the theatrical cut.
At around 2 hours and 40 minutes, it has:
• The extended sacrificial scene with the Elder Engineers
• The full length Weyland TED Talk
• Shaw's transmission to Weyland - New fully rendered scene that shows Weyland's research facility on Mars
• David's extended intro as he watches Lawrence of Arabia
• Janek's Christmas talk
• Extended Milburn and Fifield dialogue
• Janek sending probes from the Prometheus out into the atmosphere as they enter the storm
• Milburn finding the flatworm
• Shaw's speech of how the Earth came to be after David saves her
• Milburn and Fifield finding the Hammerpede skin
• Longer dialogue between Shaw and Holloway after he sees something in his eye while looking in the mirror
• Alternate CGI Fifield attack sequence
• Janek's and Vickers' conversation about "pushing the button"
• Shaw praying in the mirror
• Extended dialogue between Vickers and Weyland, but edited so that it's not as choppy as the full deleted scene
• Weyland's speech for the Last Engineer, but I kept the Engineer quiet - he's creepier that way
• Extended scene where the Engineer plays with the chandelier, finds Shaw behind the counter, and she uses the axe on the Engineer before unleashing the Trilobite - This scene originally didn't match up with the theatrical version because half the Engineer's face is burned in the theatrical version, but not in the deleted scene. This is rectified and the Engineer's face is no longer burned at any part of this scene thanks to CGI enhancements
• Extended dialogue between Shaw and David as she goes back to get David in the Juggernaut - this is the "sweeter" version of the scene, not the alternate cut where Shaw says "And you're a f**king robot."
• The "Intro to Mankind" transmission that's broadcasted for the Engineers plays after the credits
• The David 8 viral video plays after the "Intro to Mankind" transmission video
I kept the "sweeter" version of Shaw talking to Holloway after the Engineers head explodes because I love the twisted realization that Shaw is supposed to be infertile, but goes through a traumatic experience involving having an Alien baby inside of her.
Not all credit on this goes to me, as there was another fan edit of Prometheus I cut a few things from, including the hard work that was put into rendering the scene where Weyland watches Shaw's transmission in his research facility on Mars, and the editing on the Engineer's face during the melee sequence with Shaw. I refined some of the poorly edited cuts and transitions, making it an overall much more streamlined re-envisioning. Credit for those newly enhanced scenes, I believe goes to James Rivers. His workprint edition is the one I'm working off of. He created a trailer for his version which can be viewed below.

What ? Janek sent out probes? There is a deleted scene for that?
Shaw explains how earth came to be ?
Where can I find a list of all the deleted scenes on the blu ray?
Wonderful work you and Rivers have done.
Is there any possibility of someone removing the guards that was killed during the Fifield attack in later scenes?
Just kidding I know it must have been a lot of work.
May I ask what software you were using to edit the mistakes out?

I used Final Cut Pro on my Mac.
It really wasn't a lot of work as I already had the workprint edition that James Rivers had made. I just worked off of his version which I thought flowed very nicely, but I didn't like how some of the deleted scenes he added were not completed and looked out of place alongside the final version. There was also some poor editing and transitions between scenes that I corrected. The deleted scenes I took out were more or less small snippets that don't have any effect on the larger plot anyway.
The scenes include Holloway saying "You're smiling" to Shaw after he climbed up the mountain side to see what she found in the Isle of Sky, a small snippet of Holloway saying "That's the sweetest air I've ever tasted" after he takes off his helmet in the Pyramid, and there's also an exchange between Vickers and David that I would've liked to keep in, but it didn't look or sound completed.
I personally did not do any work on the scenes where Weyland watches Shaw's transmission from his facility on Mars, or the CGI enhancements made to the Engineer's face to keep continuity with the deleted scene. That was more than likely all James Rivers' work. Beautiful stuff!
The scene where Janek send out probes is quite literally two seconds long.
Shaw gathers a group of people after they all realize Fifield and Milburn were left behind during the storm and she does a little speech about the Engineer head that they found. This scene happens before they inspect the head and it explodes.
Unfortunately, I think we're just gonna have to live with the mess of seeing the guards that were killed during the Fifield attack later as they take care of Weyland, ahaha.

Intel Iris. But I didn't do any of the rendering or CGI enhancements. I just threw what I already had into the Final Cut Pro app I have on my Mac.

Oh, wow, I had not seen that! Most everything from that thread is in the version I'm putting together! Looks like member Crazy Shrimp even linked James Rivers trailer for his workprint cut in that thread!
But I didn't keep Shaw being angry with Holloway after the briefing in because it was edited poorly and really didn't have any effect on anything.
I really wish we had the scene of the Engineer reading the book before he attacks Shaw :'[ Would've been fascinating to see.
Glad you like it but the link to xeno_alpha_07 article in the OP at his blog for some reason isn't working . There are more scenes there that wasn't on the blu ray.
Sorry link not working I'll PM xeno alpha.

Alright guys, sorry but I won't have this up until late Wednesday evening or sometime early on Thursday so that everyone going to Covenant on Friday can watch this beforehand. I was gonna work on it today, but I ended up having plans after all :P
Thanks for your patience!
Cool. Look forward to it! :)
I definitely want to see this stuff.
Alrighty, everyone - Just finished up! Gonna let Final Cut Pro do the final touches and create the file while I sleep cause it's nearly 4am here. I'll upload the film to Google Drive in the morning and post the link to watch or download it when it's done! :)

I haven't compressed it much from the source files I had from the start of working on this. I output the film at 1080p with stereo sound with Final Cut Pro, so it's not going to be as good as viewing it on Blu-Ray, otherwise I'd be dealing with a near impossible file size and it would take a lot more than the seven hours this file will take to upload to Google Drive. But all the same, it's very watchable. It still sounds great and is probably equivalent to watching a near 1080p video on Youtube. The file size is still large - almost 19gb.
Also, I'm pretty sure you'll have a much better viewing experience if you download the file versus steaming it from the link I'll provide.
Thanks, guys. Uploading to Google Drive now! - Cheers ;D
Could you perhaps supply file size
container type (MP4 prores etc) video codec (mpg avchd etc).
Thank you

I exported the file in H.264 and it's a .mov file. I'm not great with computer lingo, so I hope that has at least some relevance as an answer to your question! :-X
Thanks thats plenty. .
I own the Agent 9 fan edit on DVD. I loved that but there was some issues with colour and sound differences with the new scenes added in.
I'm very intrigued by your version. Gonna wanna copy if thats possible!
Okay, I got some bad news, but it's not terribly bad.
I thought when I uploaded the video and it finished processing, that would be that and you could all watch it! But it looks like once it's finished uploading, it's processed multiple times for different playback resolutions as well as configured so it can play on multiple devices. Right now, it's available to watch in 360p. Because the file size is so large - 17GB, processing it will probably take some time, possibly a few days.
I am very sorry if this disappoints anyone who wanted to watch it before Covenant! :-[ If the processing time is shorter than I'm anticipating, I will then of course link you guys straight away. But, until the file processing completes the resolution I want you guys to watch it in - 1080p, I will post again with the link and update the OP in this thread. Thanks!
If you'd like to view it right now regardless of it's quality, PM for the link! It's only playable on desktops in 360p at the moment. No mobile viewing yet.
Could you PM me a link once it's done processing in full 1080p?
I've already seen Covenant 8)
Looking forward to this :)
Definitely interested in giving it a watch when it's finished uploading at higher resolution. :)
I'm definitely interested in this... Please count me in.
-Windebieste.
Me three.
Count me in too! Looking forward to this.
Happy to wait :)
Aaaaand, It's done processing in HD! Thank you all for your patience!
I hope all of you enjoy it as much as I do ;D

Thanks again Coal.
I watched this last night and it's now my preferred cut of the movie. The ending is so much better. I wish they would've kept all the Engineer material in the film.
I think Prometheus was an excellent film until they went into the editing room. I enjoy the final release, but this cut fixes most of the kinks from that felt off in that version.
The release version I only gave a 6.5/10, but this version I'd have no problem giving 9/10.

Hi CoalescedChaos, I'm the author of the edit and I'm flattered you liked it to such extent that you invested time in it, and what is more important, to share it!! :)
Actually I made the edit about 3 years ago but it wasn't very popular then, and some of the effects wasn't as polished as now. But with the anouncement of the upcomig sequel I decided give it a try once more. Changed some things in the video and audio side of things and completed the subtitles. And if you ever asked yourself, the audio track is Dolby Digital with 5.1 channels @ 640 kbps.
The size of the full movie is originally about 22 GBytes but I rendered to only 2 GB so most people could download it without any trouble.
I'd like to release it as a file one can burn to a BD25 and watch it as a normal blu ray with menus, hope when the Blu ray for Covenant comes out.
Anyway stay tuned to my channel in Youtube for more updates. ;)
Cheers.
P:S I've already watched Covenant and I liked it a lot. And With the promotional videos that got out before the premiere, I can think of a new edit for Covenant, and even a new ending for Prometheus.
The opening scene to Covenant I can already see people putting at the beginning of Prometheus, where it makes more sense.
subbed, wanna watch this when i get home!
Watched it, and I really liked it! I watched a somewhat similar fan-edit a bunch of years ago, with the TED talk and all, but I must say that this one felt really seamless and had a superior pace both to the original cut and other fan-edits. At least to me.
The added scenes with Vickers and Janek adds a lot of debt to their characters - she becomes less of a stereotypical ice queen and he feels less like this rugged yet carefree charming dude. My only question mark here is about why the Yutani corporation hacked(?) Shaw interview was added? I mean, as a fan I get it as it is interesting to see hints to how Weyland and Yutani merged and that they were once rivals or whatever, but it still fell a little out of place. It also added yet another jump scene with explanatory text, which gets kind of interruptive (Rogue One had a similar problem). Even so, job well done! Prefer this over the original.

Seamless was my goal for this edit!
I would not have added the "Quiet Eye" viral video if it were not for the hard work that was put into that scene. I wanted to showcase what James did - it's beautiful, so I kept it in.
And in the end, it does add tons more depth to Shaw's character, I think, and why she's so driven to go on the mission in the first place.
But I can see how four introductory scenes can be a tad jarring.
I always took the Yutani presence in the viral video as Weyland using Yutani brand software to analyze Shaw's transmission, to see if she could be trusted, rather than watching it as Yutani hacked Weyland's personal files.

Oh, wow! I had a feeling you'd be lurking on the forums. A person who isn't a fan wouldn't put that much effort into making a workprint of Prometheus. Glad you could join us on the boards, sir!
I thank you very much, James. The new scenes in your workprint looked absolutely gorgeous and were really the main reason I gave this an edit. I'm glad I could help push it along down the river so other people could see your work!
I added both our names to the end of the credits, by the way ;)

Yeah, I always had a hard time deciding what they were going for there. Is it, like you said, just Weyland using Yutani software _or_ is it cyber espionage handed out by Yutani? To me at least it is a little confusing.
So what are the differences between CoalescedChaos' and jimmydelaroja's edits?
I've collected various edits of the movie, but the one with 5.1 audio and at full 1080p quality (22GB) seems like a keeper! Hoping for a release of that one!

I essentially revised James' cut. There were a lot of small scenes deleted from Prometheus that were never edited so they matched the completed scenes. These small scenes don't change the larger picture, though. My decision to take a lot of these small bits out of James' version is because they were discolored, sounded odd, and felt chopped together - no fault to James of course. That's just the way the editors of the film left those scenes. I assume it was decided very early on in post they wouldn't be used.
James added them to his edit just to have them because it's a "workprint edition". I took them out because they took me out of the experience of what I was watching. I did, however keep all the finished-looking deleted scenes in my cut. Those scenes do change the larger picture and add tons of character to seemingly cardboard cutout characters.
The largest differences are that I cut any of the scenes of the Engineers speaking - it makes them more mysterious.
I switched the scene between Shaw and Holloway after the Engineer's head explodes. Mine has the sweeter alternate take where we find out that Shaw is infertile and cannot have children. James' version has the alternate take where Holloway is pretty much a dick to Shaw and it results in her giving him a good couple slaps.

I'll watch it regardless. I wouldn't want you to go to too much trouble.

• The "Intro to Mankind" transmission that's broadcasted for the Engineers plays after the credits
• The David 8 viral video plays after the "Intro to Mankind" transmission video
I forgot to tell you I did also upconverted the audio from the virals from stereo to Dolby 5.1, I'll see if I can upload these 2 virals for you as I see you liked them.

I added both our names to the end of the credits, by the way ;)
Yeah. I noticed. Thank you. ;D
By the way, I was thinking about the time I was working in the edit a while back and I had the idea to recreate the original sequence where Weyland is present during the Fifield Attack, except that there wasn't enough material to begin with beyond some brief scenes in the trailers. I'd like to see how well plays that sequence. May be one day Ridley or someone at 20th century fox allows that to happen.
Excellent fan edit!
Making this as viewer-friendly as possible, by editing out lesser quality footage to transform this into an extended version - rather than a workprint was the right choice, imo.
Thanks to all involved for making this happen.

I´ve just seen your version and it is correct , flows very nicely and I just realised you used the original release of the edit, it was already 5.1, size about 8.43 GB in 2 mkv files...
Well, this all is a coincidence, a nice one because a month ago, I just uploaded a revised and more condensed in size version of the edit that it turns out to be named as... "
Prometheus Workprint Edition Ver
2017". I´ts just 2 GB and it comes with subtitles in english and spanish, only comes in stereo and this time I left out all the virals at the end of the movie.
In this version tried to correct some problems with the color I noticed after the upload, I took out the scene between Shaw and Holloway after the briefing aboard the Prometheus because looked awkward, little tweaking in the audio as well and made a little work in the FX, and i think it's worth to watch it again. If anyone wants a link just PM me.
I sat down and gave this a watch yesterday, man you've brought together a truly amazing edit of Prometheus! It honestly felt like I was watching a totally new movie! The new scenes were interspliced seamlessly. Congrats man.
Spoiler
If you ever do another edit may I recommend adding some more ambient noises and up the music volume slightly during Shaws confrontation with the Engineer? The sound seemed oddly quiet throughout that scene, up until she opens the door to release the trilobite. Aside from that man perfection!
I was hooked throughout!
2 hours 40 mins had never gone by so fast.
The viewing went by quick for me too. I enjoyed this extended edit, it's more satisfying than what's commercially available at the moment.
Hopefully, we'll see an official extended cut of the movie released sometime in the future on BluRay or DVD. So much content got cut that improves this movie to no end and the home entertainment market is the ideal place to re-introduce it.
Despite the face I already own a RluRay copy of the movie, I'd buy it again for that reason. 'PROMETHEUS' deserves a better treatment.

I'm making a slight change to this release.. unfortunately one of the very last edits I made to it before uploading it, I accidentally cut out some of Vickers' introduction in the briefing scene and I didn't catch it. It just goes from her saying "Good morning" to "Okay then, on with the show." so, she says nothing about the people she hired personally :-[

Watched parts of this last night and I must say.... It flows more natural in some parts. Specially after the c-section. You get the feeling Shaw has more time to recover somehow (or am I seeing things...) Also Janeks stupid conversation with Shaw about the militairy base is a bit better since had the talk with Vickers first. (though he just repeats it again)
I have to say... Good work, and what a shame this movie is so borked that the fans can make better edits...
It's amazing we have fans who can do this kind of thing. Thank you so much.
I just hope we can get similar work to fix up Covenant one day.

Well, crap. Today... right now was the only time I had to watch this. File not found... If Vickers' acknowledging the people she hired is the only thing you lost, you didn't lose much. I watched the BluRay last Thursday and that specifically is one of the pieces I thought about cutting. It adds nothing - except that it possibly explains why Milburn and Fifield are so incompetent that whoever hired them was a moron and couldn't run in any direction except straight.

The extended scenes and deleted material do actually help make the film better. Is it perfect? No. The movie will always have the problems that have been there since it was shot.
Well done it all involved.
i watched just some bits but it feels great, i dont really understand why all the fan edits put the Weyland TED talk in it, but whatever, it seems like a more complete movie and i will watch it whole, though i would ahve preferred the Engineer speaking in it :( but whatever, you did a good job
a issue i have is that all this time i wanted the original scene with the Engineers in cloaks in the movie again, but now that i watched integrated in the movie, it doesnt makes sense that the ships leaves while the others are there, which they magically appear to dissapear in that scene after the ritual
i really hope you do a edit of Covenant once it comes out with the deleted scenes, you should The Crossing viral video in the movie, it makes the lack of continuity between Prometheus and Covenant not so jarring, and it could be put in the same place it is in the movie, the scene with Shaw just before the bombing scene, after David starts talking to Walter
@ CoalescedChaos & jimmydelaroja
(James Rivers) - Fantastic work guys. I enjoyed this version of PROMETHEUS very much indeed! Your combined efforts are very much appreciated.
Although I have my own re-edit of the movie in mind someday, this extended
('Workprint') cut by CoalescedChaos now edges out Agent 9's excellent 'Special Edition' as my current 'go-to' version in the meantime. ;D
@ James - just a couple of thoughts on your 'Mars Base/Shaw's message' sequence, if I may - due to the fact that I always liked the smooth transition from the 'torch shining on the cave wall' shot to the 'deep space starfield' shot in the first place, I found the interruption by your new CGI sequence a little jarring. However, you did a tremendous job with it as a way of integrating the viral clip featuring Shaw's message, I must say.
But there's something that came to mind when when I watched it - I found the slow, continuous zoom-in towards Weyland looking at his monitor to go on a bit too long, as it let's us linger on the CGI-ied aspect of the shot too much I think. You've done some great work in that shot, but I reckon it might work more effectively if you cut the slow zoom-in just after Shaw has finished saying
"Hello mister Weyland...", and then cut to seeing the full frame image of Shaw where she continues saying
"...I'm doctor Elizabeth Shaw" at this point instead. This way the CGI environment won't be focused on for so long.
However, your 'birds-eye' shot of the base
(and the various sounds which accompanied it) was really effective I thought. Great stuff.
Another thing which I really appreciated, was the CGI removal of the Engineer's 'faceburn'...so that things now match evenly with the additional Shaw/Engineer footage - however, I would have preferred NOT to have seen the brief extra shot of the Engineer 'getting up' inside the Juggernaut after it crashed, nor the one of him then 'walking towards the lifeboat section'...as I think just his re-appearance where he forces the doors open would have been more effective without them.
Personally, I'd also have preferred to have seen the full deleted scene of the Engineer's deep, booming dialogue included, as well as the deleted exchange between David and Vicker's as she suits up before using the flamethrower - Agent 9 did a neat job fixing up the latter scene, and I missed it in your version I have to say - but it's nothing major in the scheme of things.
I'm intending to remove the initial Engineer prologue from the start of my own version eventually, as I'd prefer to prolong the mystery of what they look like until much later in the movie, just as Agent 9 did - but it's really great to have this excellent 'extended' cut available too, with it's large amount of additional footage re-integrated. I reckon you guys should start a thread over at the 'Fanedits-Fixes, Mixes & TV' section of the
Fanedit.org forums to highlight this version, and get it properly listed there. James's 'Workprint' trailer has recently been enquired about over there in the 'General FE Discussions' section, and here's the link to that thread if you're curious - https://forums.fanedit.org/showthread.php?tid=15210
Thanks to both of you for making this movie a much more satisfying watch overall!
________________________________________________
As far incorporating ALIEN COVENANT'S viral 'The Crossing' prologue into a re-edit, I'm kinda torn between 3 different ways I could include it - the full, complete version of the clip would be no use to me, but a SHORTENED version could perhaps work as a completely new ending for my PROMETHEUS edit, to act as a different 'lead-in' to the follow-up movie..
Here's how I'd do it if I were to go down that route
(and here's the clip for reference) -
After the final shot of the 'Deacon' roaring fades out, we'd then miss out this clip's white text at the start, and fade directly into the shot of the Juggernaut in space as David's voice-over starts to describe what happened afterwards...except I'd cut at the point where he says
"I never experienced such compassion", as Shaw looks up in the corridor...and REMOVE the following shot of Shaw working on David so that the words
"Certainly not from mister Weyland, or from any human" are missed out - the reason being that I wouldn't mind hearing David repeating his first line to Walter in the follow-up movie, but I certainly wouldn't want to hear him repeating ALL of those lines again. So once Shaw looks up in the corridor, I'd instead cut to the close-up of David's head being attached as he says
"Green to green, red to red...it's meant to be simple", and carry on with the rest of the clip right up until David walks past the Engineer figures, as we hear him say
"...I learned of their ways, and awaited our arrival..." - and at this point the end credits begin - but NOT with the plinky-plonk piano score, but instead the more atmospheric music which is heard AFTER the piano cue finishes.
(Alternatively, I could use the exact same version I described above as a POST-CREDITS scene instead, either sticking it mid-way through the 'end credits' or right after they finish)
However, I'm leaning more towards my original intention of including it just after David teaches Walter the flute in ALIEN COVENANT instead. ;D - by cutting soon after the 'flute' scene at the point where David tells Walter he's got something to show him as he leads him away...as we cut to the Juggernaut in space as David's voice-over begins to describe the events of the clip...except this time, I would cut at the end of the pan across the corridor immediately after we hear the words
"...she put me back together" BEFORE we see Shaw looking up, or hear David say
"I've never experienced such compassion,,,certainly not from mister Weyland or from any human". In this instance I'd instead go directly from the panning shot of the corridor to the close-up of David having his head attached, so that NONE of those particular words from David are repeated during the movie...as they are about to be said in the next part of the movie anyway!
So once we continue this 'viral' scene in the same way as I previously described, I'd again end it where David walks past the Engineer figures saying
"...I learned of their ways, and awaited for our arrival..." - and then after this FIRST 'flashback', I'd cut back to David then continuing to lead Walter out towards the scene of the dead Engineers as he says
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings...look on my works ye mighty, and despair...", and the movie continues to then show a SECOND 'flashback' which involves the Juggernaut's arrival at the Engineer's homeworld, and the footage carries on as normal...and we hear David eventual say the words
"I never experienced such compassion...certainly not from mister Weyland, or from any human" in it's original place in the movie. And anyone else who's re-editing the movie can do the same if they wish. of course.

By placing the deleted COVENANT scene in the same time frame as PROMETHEUS, you now have a continuity error - the length of Dr Shaw's hair.
Yeah. I've noticed that too but I wanted a second opinion. That was a continuity error and may be that´s why they didn't include it in Covenant.
Anyway I think still it can be "fixed", so I'll be working on it.
What a great idea. Prometheus and covenant joined to make one movie.

Yeah. no problem at all. it's just a test, needs more work.
I personally feel 'The Crossing' content should be inserted back into David's flashback sequence during his tete a tete with Walter. When 'ALIEN: Covenant' is released I'd like to see it back where it belongs.
'PROMETHEUS' really does end when the Dreadnought departs LV-223 and the Deacon makes its appearance.
-Windebieste.
I like that idea too. Anyway I'll try to correct the hair issue and may be I have it ready when covenant bluray comes out.
Hope the blu ray includes a lot of deleted scenes.
Thanks for sharing! It was really cool to see Prometheus with new footage. It was almost a fresh experience, again.
It also made me ponder what restorations I would make.
Personally, I only would have added the following:
• Janek's Christmas talk
• Milburn finding the flatworm
• Janek's and Vickers' conversation about "pushing the button"
• Extended scene where the Engineer plays with the chandelier, finds Shaw behind the counter, and she uses the axe on the Engineer before unleashing the Trilobite
Those are the only deletions that I think about genuinely enhance the movie without upsetting the pacing too much. My main quibble with the Workprint is that it's very long.
The Our First Alien scene makes Milburn much more sympathetic, and provides a necessary shared moment of wonder before the horror begins.
Janek and the narrative really need the "pushing the button" scene to be restored - badly. This was the most harmful cut to the movie's narrative. Without it, Janek does not have an intrinsic motivation to sacrifice himself. It also explains, eloquently, how past experiences "program" the characters to interpret events a certain way. Janek's extended dialogue about Christmas with Vickers further strengthens their characters, making them more sympathetic, and developing their relationship slightly more before they hook up.
The axe fight is the second-most harmful cut they made, overall. It is not only incoherent in the theatrical version, but it robs the movie of a movie satisfactory climax. It also gives up more of the Engineer, rounding his character more by showing his curiosity before he unleashes his wrath. In the theatrical version, the Engineer comes across as more of a murderous brute. This scene really adds a lot of dimension to him without forcing him to speak.
I firmly believe that Scalia harmed the movie's narrative a great deal in order to make it pacier. It only needed to be a few minutes longer to be substantially more coherent and satisfying. Being 10-15 minutes longer would not have harmed the box office.
Agreed.
Also Janek questioning who else is on board when Vickers asks David, "Is he awake?"
The Ted talk, Mars transmission, and the Probes being sent to planet.
All great additions.
And for the love of all things Prommy start the Vickers confronting Weyland scene after the doors close so we don't see the 2 disappearing guards. If someone is planning another edit this is a must. It won't 100% fix the number of guards left after the Fiefield attack (unless someone CGIs over the guard in Weyland's room, when David is washing his feet).
Is it superior to the theatrical version?

I prefer this fan edit to the theatrical cut.
Hello all. Just wanted to come here specifically to thank CoalescedChaos for putting this up and also jimmydelaroja for your wonderful work on the edits. I actually prefer these fan edits then the theatrical version. So far I find CoalescedChaos edit to be the most complete. I feel the Ted Talk and quiet Eye fit nicely and really add a lot more to the plot. Everything was great and edited good. I do however miss the beginning elder Engineer speech and the final speech from the last Engineer. One other change I would do is at 1.50.50 Instead of the shot of Vickers opening the door, I would have a sec of her walking up. Because if you watch David is tightening something on Weyland's suit and then it clicks, light on suit comes on, but then next shot is Doors opening and Vicker's is there. It almost seems like David caused the door to open when his tool clicks or goes down. It kind of needs a sec more from door opening imo. Nothing big, doesn't bother my enjoyment of your edit, just an observation.
Anywho I'm sure all of you know this already but the actual work print was 150 mins roughly. The editor got trims and stuff out and got it down to 135. then another 15-19 mins of actual scenes cut out bringing it down to under 2 hours. It had to be at that run time per Fox's order. The scenes cut out are the deleted scenes we have. The first wave of cuts was some stuff we've seen in trailers and behind the scenes, promotional videos. The 150 min work print is something I would like to work on and put together sometime in the near future, for my own personal fan edit. CoalescedChaos'S Edit is pretty close to the actual workprint. About 10 mins of small trims here and there are missing. No big scenes or nothing, just one and three sec trims throughout. Just thought I'd share some of that with y'all.
BTY, I'm a huge Prometheus fan, only for the extended edits. It's probably in my top all time 3 faves and I view it as the best in the series. :)
I also have a feeling we will be getting a directors cut or extended cut officially soon. Either soon or when prequel series wraps, guaranteed. Cheers :)

Have you watched the making of documentary on the Blu-Ray? They show Ridley Scott commenting to his editor on this scene. Scott's comment is about that very cut. He says something to the effect of, "I like that. It makes it look like David caused the door to open."

I've watched doc a few times now and it's a lot of fun to watch. some of the segments were better then others. My favorite would be the sets, and the ship.
But yeah it was nice seeing Ridley go threw everything on such detail, I always though that particular scene with David was edited kind of odd, but I guess it is kind of neat.. I also liked how they did the dinner scene. They had molecular gastronomy food, had cast come in and literally eat and try this stuff. Then Ridley started filming them eating and socializing.
Thank you for the relink! I am an avid Alien fan but I hadn't seen any fan edits.
I saw the fan edit "alternative edit extended cut" and it was really amazing... I'm trying to find a 1080p version of it... It says the author was Max Shreck lol.
I watched agent 9 and it was definitely not my flavor. It paid homage to the original, but it didn't fit the scenes.
I'm looking forward to watching this tonight! This might be my go to... I definitely like the length on this one!
-- 8/5/17 Update
Dude this version is the end all be all version in my opinion. This one really flows well.
The length really does work with this movie. It makes it on my top 3 all time Alien movies now as well. The ending was ruined in the original. The tension that built up through the entire movie was wasted. My wife commented that it was because they weren't allowed to show Shaw being attacked by a man. LOL. They almost ruined the movie if not for this workprint.
Please let me know if you're working on a Covenant workprint!
Can this be downloaded, there is a download button, but get a cannot download file ?? would love to have this on my drive, love the film
and whats the size of the file currently?
VERY nicely done on this extended cut of the Prometheus film! I love seeing all of the extra/deleted footage that wasn't shown in a good sync with the rest of the film. It helps make the movie MUCH better in my opinion (I would have maybe kept some of the Engineer speaking scene though). But I see why you didn't ;)
If you ever consider doing an Alien: Covenant Workprint Edition you'd be shown much appreciation! It'd be great to see all of the deleted scenes/shots thrown in. Especially the Prologue, Crossing the Plaza & Alien jumping down the corridor scenes, etc.
Could somebody please make a small rip of this praised fanedit? Thank you!
What is a "small rip"?

A smaller alternative to the original 16GB file.
Well then no. Nobody is going to do that for you.
Workprint rules, I would award it 'assembly cut' of Prometheus that tops Alien3 Assembly cut thus making it no.3 best film in the franchise...although potential of a definitive covenant cut could usurp it
Hi everyone,
This seems amazing, is there any English subtitles? I would like to watch it with a friend who doesn't hear well.
I still keep forgetting to download this lmao

Where can you find all of these deleted scenes if they are not on the bluray ?

Hi , just a quick update from a recent email I received from jimmydelaroja on his edit of Prometheus and his Covenant edit.
"Hi. Yes. The encoded video is finished (1080p 20 gigs), but im having some problems trying to authoring the bluray. Im still working on that. Improved a little the mars intro and minor details and added a small scene at the very end before credits begin to roll. is something that i always wanted to add but havent figured out how until now.
Also the extended edition of covenant is almost ready. Only one small scene to add and the video side of things is done and then i'll begin working in the audio.
Anyway when the disc is ready ill open a new post."
CoalescedChaos I hope you dont mind me sharing this info here, its just to keep anyone interested in Jimmys projects updated.
Kind regards
Danny
Sorry, all. I switched emails within the past few months and the Workprint Edition was uploaded to a Google Drive account that was attached to my email.
Google Drive only gives you 15 GBs of free storage space and I was paying $4 a month to get extra storage space to keep the movie active, since it's about 16 GBs in size. I went forward with not paying for the Google Drive account anymore because it said that even if I stopped paying, all the current material that was on that Google Drive would stay there and still be viewable, so I took the chance.
It was still viewable for couple months, but I noticed recently that my old email was no longer receiving any mail whatsoever (I was keeping it as a junk email if I ever had to enter an email sonewhere I didn't want to use my new one). Then I realized that the Workprint was no longer viewable even though it's still technically uploaded, which is dumb. The 15 GBs counts toward every Google service you use, even email. Since I had over 16 GBs of storage being used but I wasn't paying for it anymore, something happened and it completely wiped all my Google data across that email.
BUT, now I can just reupload the Workprint Edition to my new Google Drive. I will update all links in this thread when a new one is uploaded - shouldn't be more than a few days.

That's fantastic to hear. Glad there's a reason behind it and it wasn't just Google being a dick

Thanks for the new link! ;D
Did you say you were working on an alternate cut of Covenant too? If so, any idea when you may be able to share? Have seen a few fan cuts already but none that have been definitive (like your workprint version of Prometheus) yet.
🤞🏻
I think the Evanus edit of Covenant is the best so far, just needs a few final tweaks imo and it is definitively there
CoalescedChaos, may I ask how you compressed the video file? Because I noticed that the quality is quite low for a 16gb file.. for that size it could look a lot better. A shame because it's a really good edit, would love to see it in less compressed quality. :)

Evanus is right.
An update to PROMETHEUS is in the works. Full 1080p Blu-Ray rip with 5.1 Surround - will be exported from Final Cut Pro UNCOMPRESSED. They will be large files. These are not meant to be portable. They are meant to REPLACE your Blu-Ray copies. They are meant to be viewed as if they were professionally done, with no weird audio or video cuts/jumps. If you want my edits to be portable, download them and compress them yourself. No compromises will be made on these edits because I have the available space in Google Drive and MEGA.
In addition, I'm putting together an edit of COVENANT as well. Same process as what I listed above for PROMETHEUS.
EACH FILM WILL HAVE OVER 30 MINUTES OF FOOTAGE ADDED INTO THEM.
The reason my current PROMETHEUS edit is low-quality inside a large file is because I didn't understand what I was doing at the time of exporting it - exporting, upscaling, compressing, etc. Now, I do. The original files I worked with on PROMETHEUS were only 720p, but I exported it from Final Cut Pro at an upscaled size of 1080p, explaining the poor quality and large size. With these new edits, I've ripped the Blu-Rays myself and didn't download them from somewhere.
Thank you so much , CoalescedChaos ! Can not wait to get it.
Dont forget about this extended Elder speech!
P.S. This is my own modified version with deeper voice.

Can we appeal for at least a 720p version of the Covenant edit in the mean time? :(
Aaaahhhhhhhhh!!
Any updates on this?
No but think news of its drop will come here first. Noted the list of AC changes made in edit on the post: https://yutani.blog/2018/05/03/chaos-editions/
