I know the first argument against this, that the suit was fossilized. Yes, because there's a good chance he found the suit and decided to wear it for piloting the ship, maybe the ship had structural integrity or maybe he wore it in hopes to contain whatever had ingested inside of him.
Second theory, covenant left us with David and a whole bunch of people in cryro tubes, and undeveloped fetus baby's,
Maybe thats where he got all the subjects to make all this eggs on the crashed ship? As seen in alien?
The reason the alien developed a bio mechanical look is because of hybridization or the original host was David all along? from the get go, procreation and creation was something he was kinds obsessed with.
We never actually saw inside of the suit in alien, so it could have been anyone inside it. Then there was the acid burn hole in the crashed ship. So whatever busted out clearly burned a hole to escape for unknown purposes.
I do think the mystery behind the crashed ship in Alien is fantastic and it leaves a lot to the imagination, but prometheous and covenant kinda already ruined the mythos behind it

I genuinely wouldn't put it past Ridley thinking this is some sort of genius idea that no-one would ever expect, and the way to introduce the biomechanical into the Alien design. Think I'm quitting if that actually happens.

You don't have to worry if the character can pilot the ship, if the character genetically modifies himself so that he is growing out of the ship itself. ;)

AvPG has been around since 2002. Darkness closed the site in 2004 after AvP. I wasn't working on AvPG at the time, I used to run my own website, but we were all friends. I think I quit out around 05 when the AICN review of AvPR came out. Then Darkness brought the website back towards the end of 2008, I joined up with him then.
I remember Scott specifically saying we'll learn who's in the suit in the end, in some interview. Dunno if he'd actually put David in there, but I doubt we'll ever know anyway.
I don't think Scott's interested in doing another film that focuses on horror/suspense with lots of aliens. He was trying to slowly move away from that. He said he'd do like 5 more if he had the chance, probably focusing more on David/AI, before connecting to the original.
So I don't see him being interesting in doing a more straightforward final prequel, unless they allow him to explore new things a la Prometheus. I think that might be why they're taking so long to figure things out.
