It is with much sadness that I have to report to you all the passing of another member of the Alien family. The Guardian has confirmed with the agent of Sir Ian Holm, Alien’s very own Ash, that the legendary actor has passed away this morning.
"It is with great sadness that the actor Sir Ian Holm CBE passed away this morning at the age of 88," they said. "He died peacefully in hospital, with his family and carer," adding that his illness was Parkinson's related. "Charming, kind and ferociously talented, we will miss him hugely."
For many of us at Alien vs. Predator Galaxy, Sir Ian Holm is known for portraying Ash, but he had a very illustrious career in film and theatre. Aside from his role as Ash, he is perhaps best known to modern audiences for portraying Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s adaptations of J.R.R Tolkien’s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books.
Ian is survived by his fourth wife, de Stempel, and five children from previous marriages. The thoughts of the Aliens vs. Predator Galaxy staff and community go out to Sir Holm's family and friends. Rest in peace, Ian.

So very upset about this. Thank you Ian Holm, and rest in peace... :-\
Rest in peace. His performance in Alien is absolutely class. Next time I watch it will be with sombreness.
Rip to a legend.
A long and successful life.
May The Lord bless and comfort his family and friends during this time of loss.
R.I.P.
I never had the chance to meet Ian Holm which I really regret. It's so sad to see so many of the Alien family leave us lately. :( Rest in peace, Ian. Hope you're at that Nostromo breakfast table with John and Harry and Bolaji.
Damn. Just, damn. :(
Rest in peace, Ian.

heartbreaking😔
Very sad news.
Fantastic actor. His work will live on while he will be missed greatly :'(
Sucks to hear this and very unexpected :(
Well if we go after alien directors cut, next one is Parker :O
When I first heard about this I was hoping it was not another covid case but from what I read, he died in hospital and was suffering from parkinsons.
88 is a ripe old age and he made the most of it, so many great movies came from him. RIP.
RIP Sir Ian and thanks not only for Alien but other movies as Naked Lunch. :-[ :'(
Damn, RIP Sir.
In space no one can hear you cry
Sad.
That sucks
Rest in Peace, Ian Holm. Great actor.
Sleep peacefully Mr. Holm. :'(
Every time that an actor of a movie that someone loves pass away... It's very sad and shocking.
Rest in peace Holm.
sad news to start the day :(
rest in peace
Come on 2020, take a break, is just bad news after bad news. He was a fantastic actor, rest in peace.
Rest in peace Ian Holm.
2020 sucks. Rest in peace, Ian. :'(
Rest In Peace Sir Ian Holm. Tremendously talented, he was great in everything, always gave a stand out performance. He will be missed.
All other priorities rescinded
You have my sympathies...
Rest in peace Ian Holm :'(
NOOOOOO!!
RIP
Was so sad hearing this on the news today.
A great actor who leaves behind a fantastic series of performances across all genres.
A sad loss. Great actor. My sympathies.

Not to forget his excellent turn in Chariots of Fire (for which he got an Academy Award Nomination and BAFTA Win) that was filmed just after Alien. The Fifth Element was also another great sci-fi film in which he starred prominently:

He seemed a bit reclusive, didn't attend conventions and stuff, so understandable. I understand he also declined voice work for Alien: Isolation?
Oh no, terrible news. Unfortunately we're reaching times when a lot of our aged favorites are falling ill or passing away and that is very unfortunate as we're reminded that time passes and everything ends. Very very sad news, he was a great actor
Gave life to many iconic characters. His work speaks for itself. RIP sir!
His portrayal of Ash will haunt me forever. He was just so sinister ("I can't lie about your chances...but you have my sympathies"). It's hard to believe the same actor played Bilbo Baggins. RIP to a true legend.

supposedly, yeah! john hurt was the other one to decline lending his voice for the dlc, and sadly again, someone else who is gone :(
Did Creative Assembly ever say why they declined?
Although I suppose high caliber actors like Sir Holm and Sir Hurt might not necessarily have had the time or inclination for voice work.
Sad news indeed. He was always a highlight of anything he starred in. Ash was obviously great, but I really liked him in The Fifth Element too, and he was the definitive King Lear.
Thankfully we'll always have his films, and in those he'll live forever.

It's regrettable that he and Yaphet Kotto didn't participate in the 2003 documentary:
The Beast Within: The Making of ALIEN.
Rest well Sir Ian. Thank you for your wonderful and memorable performances that will continue to be in our memories.
The appropriate words do not exist, I only hope he passed peacefully, goodbye my dear Bilbo.
We all have to go some day. Sad reality. RIP to one of the great ones.
RIP Ian. Thanks for all the great performances.

Wow... I was literally just watching The Fifth Element and wondering how old he is now. f**k.
Incredibly sad news.
I solicited him to contribute to my AvP Let's Play years ago and while he could have told me to go f**k myself, he was exceedingly polite in declining. Class act all around.
Rest in Peace, Sir.
I've loved him in everything I've seen him in. Brilliant actor, and he seems to have left a great impression on everyone who met him.
Rest in Peace, Sir. You will be missed.
He was one of my favorite actors. Thank you, sir, for your great talent. May you rest in peace.

It's regrettable that he and Yaphet Kotto didn't participate in the 2003 documentary: The Beast Within: The Making of ALIEN.
Per CdL, Ian politely declined (through his agent). Kotto
wanted very much to be involved, but the schedules just never worked out.
Sad to see another great go. In Kenneth Branagh's autobiography, he talked about how all the English stage actors would joke about the Ian Holm: 'Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Less Of' School of Acting. :D Funny, but also true.
Clear skies, Ian.
From memory he was going through a messy divorce at the time of Alien and doesn't seem to particularly enjoy recalling that period all that much. I don't think it even gets much of a mention in his biography.

All the more regrettable in Kotto's case.

I believe he also suffered a nervous breakdown in 1980?
