they look rather.....goofy. Just the overall texture of them seems too guyver-ish.

These are terrible likenesses of the in-game assets. The Spitter looks like some fusion with the Predalien from AVP-R, and both sport the Resurrection style dog legs.
Title: Re: Lurker & Spitter Action Figures at SDCC
Post by: C91_SJ on Jul 18, 2013, 12:12:13 PM
The Spitter looks absolutely like the Predalien in the first post.
Not sure what to make of these two :/

edit: and the backpipes of the Lurker are 100% accurate to the AvP Aliens lol

Without the yellow, it seems safe to say these haven't been properly painted. Are possibly even prototypes.

Yeah, you get lots of stuff at SDCC that isn't finished yet.

I love SE's Play Arts Kai range - in fact, it's probably the one range of figures that I would probably say is straight-up better than NECA figures (for 3 times the price, but still). A PAK Alien would typically be a dream come true, although admittedly these are more than a little bit off. Trying to think of them as new interpretations of the Alien, rather than being based on the video game designs.

You messed up the franchise we're gonna mess up your figures? But seriously the all share the same body except the crusher and the acid bumps on the boiler. And the lurker head is weird. I have pics to tell whats effed and basicall y these are new designs all together in a sense.

Don't recall seeing this in the game, looks more like the classic xeno, but they had ridged heads.

Its SUPPOSED to be the classic one. Thats what a lurker was in the game, the original design. For some reason the action figures all messed up.

I think they look great, and far better than their in-game counterparts. The Lurkers head looks a lot like Spike's, which I like, and I absolutely love the grey color scheme though it does seem off.

Were these already in the works back when everyone thought Gearbox would actually produce a quality product that could sell all of this merch or what? If they hadn't have screwed the game over, these could've sold well, not to mention the millions missed out on from the Wii port being cancelled.

This is not the final paintjob. The grey is just the basic color for all the PlayArts prototypes:

Oh duh, okay. Well damn I like the gray anyway lol.

Should've realized since the ones in the game are variants of blacks, greens, and browns. The spitter especially should have a nice set of greens.

Lurker: Oh god, looks like someone decided to rip the head off something that was similar to Giger's Alien and stuck it on the body of one of ADIs- Space Raptors.

Spitter: Remove the giant spit sac orbs, add mandibles, fix the tail, and guess what? We have a pretty dag gum good predalien.

I thought NECA had the rights to do the figures? I thought those ones (NECA) were pretty good, alot better than the others that came in.  And as far as those two aliens go, they do look unfinished to me.  But the lurker alien to me looks spot on.

Neca has the rights to do the 7 inches scale. The Play Arts figures are 10"  ;)

It's like DC and Marvel figures. NECA can make them only in 18" but not in 6 or 7 inches  :P

Spitter skull reminds me a lot of the monsters from Riddick's Pitch Black movie.

Speaking of Riddick; looks we are returning to the Pitch Black roots:

Gah, its Playarts Kai.
Granted the designs for the in-game creatures suck for the most part, I would have preferred seeing Neca get the rights to do the figures for the game.

Post by: Xenomrph on Jul 19, 2013, 09:19:29 PM
Play Arts Kai stuff can be pretty kickass - I just got the Arkham City Poison Ivy figure and it rules, and I got the Lara Croft one that came with the Tomb Raider reboot special edition. They're *big* figures, and they feel really solid.

Having it not be 100% game model accurate doesn't bother me at all - I actually like seeing interesting stylized interpretations of preexisting ideas.

I heard from people who have had some hands-on experience with the toys at SDCC that it is a better experience to play with these toys than the actual game that inspired them.

I also heard that the artists that were commissioned to create these toys were paid an extra stipend after they complained about being forcibly tasked to play A:CM to "see the creatures in action" before setting their minds to making the molds.

I was hoping to get them in 7' to match the scale for the rest of my collection which I will eventually put into a big 2m wide diorama together but seeing as nobody I know will probably know about the spitter or at least what size it should be it won't look out of place being 3 inches bigger. Will just make it seem more badass :D

Title: Re: Lurker & Spitter Action Figures at SDCC
Post by: blood. on Jul 28, 2013, 10:08:42 AM
tbh... I never really liked the yellow parts on the spitter, I thought it sort of detracted from the whole stealth / ambush characteristics of the alien species. Then again the spitter doesn't have a stealth or ambush attack style... it spits lol. But still, I can't help but feel that the spitter looks a little out of place in the alien scene with bright yellow. I think I'll paint the yellow parts black or dark grey when I get it.

Title: Re: Lurker & Spitter Action Figures at SDCC

The yellow makes sense from a videogame design perspective - it makes them instantly identifiable to players, so they can react accordingly.

I still like them, I think the coloration is unique. Still planning on buying them both.
And this

I didn't realize the in game models had derpy-Resurrection legs... arguably the worst part about these. But I will admit I think they look cool otherwise.

Yep, the Aliens in CM definitely had the satyr-legs.

So when/where can we get these and are there any pictures with the lights not making them look funky?

Yeah has anyone heard anything? My guess would be probably not until either X-Mas this year or late spring 2014. A lot of places try to do that push for holiday sales lol

If you want to talk about scale, try being a Transformers collector (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Scale). Literally nothing is in scale with anything else. :P

Oh don't worry I know! The masterpiece line is pretty good, but the movie figures are awful when it comes to that. Plus when they make a leader class Bumblebee instead of Megatron its a real piss off -.-

Not to derail the thread TOO heavily, but the movie line for the first movie was actually pretty good about scale, at least where the Autobots (and a couple Decepticons) were concerned.

The toys for Beast Wars are actually scaled pretty well in terms of their show counterparts. Or rather, the show's CGI models were scaled roughly to the toys.

Oh yeah, I totaly forgot how well scaled the beast wars figures are. Other than Dinobot , who was tragically small :(

They might be, but they'll also likely be significantly more expensive than NECA's stuff, too. Play Arts Kai/Figurarts/Revoltech/Figma stuff tends to run $40-$60 a pop, depending on the brand.

Lurker looks pretty bad to me, just like the model in the game itself. It's supposed to be the classic Giger Alien, but it just doesn't pull it off to me at all. I may put up the money for the Spitters though, as they might be the closest I get to having a Praetorian-ish Alien that can fit with my NECA stuff.

What a joke for that price. Who would pay so much for such horrendous versions of the Xenomorph? The sculptor definitely did a good job on them, but he/she is not the one who created the design.

Why doesn't/can't this company focus on the original films like what Neca and Bandai are doing? I'm sure they would do a great job if they did, and I'd pay the money for it.

I just don't have the room or appetite to see ugly looking Xenomorphs on my shelfs. I want the original beauties.

Horrible game/designs or not, let's face the fact that there are many incarnations of the same movie likeness figures out there. I'm glad that they got permission to do these designs since, like I've mentioned before, the figures and other supplemental stuff that's based on these titles are even better than the title itself. I will agree that the price is awful high. I'll see if I can't get any of the eBay sellers to go lower. I do want them, believe it or not.

I picked up the Lurker. I like what Play Arts did with Isaac Clarke. I'm really impressed with the articulation. In comparison to the SH Monsterarts AVP Alien Warrior, the Lurker is pretty amazing. I wasn't expecting it to be as bloody big as it is, which probably accounts for a lot of the cost (And it was pricey, especially in Canadian $'s).
However, in comparison to the Revoltech line, and the SH Monsterarts line, and even the NECA line, when it's sitting in that alcove in my bookshelf staring intently out at the room it really is in its own element. Poor Isaac Clarke doesn't even know what's coming.

I got both of these guys in the mail the other day, they totally own. I expected to prefer the Lurker, but the Spitter is really, really cool. The differences in the sculpt are really cool, and the acid sacs on the head are done as transparent domes over bright green sculpted details underneath, so it gives a lot of depth to the design. I scored them on ebay for $65 each and I think they're worth it, but I wouldn't pay much more than that. They're seriously big (bigger than NECA stuff by a reasonable margin) and chock-full of detail. I love NECA stuff to bits, but I don't mind paying a bit of a premium for big Alien figures as cool as this in unconventional designs that we likely won't see from NECA.

Just took some pictures. Got the Spitter about a month ago. Lurker arrived yesterday. Spent (totals with shipping) $60 on the Spitter and $65 on the Lurker, ordered on eBay and Amazon respectively. Worth every penny but don't spend anymore than I did if you're interested.

And a few size comparisons. NECA vs PA Kai and PA Kai vs NECA, SH Monster Arts, Revoltech and Takara Microman. Feel free to ask any questions.
