Hello everyone! This is a shot in the dark here but I'm putting together a video for my gaming YouTube channel. My friend and I are wanting to playthrough Alien: Isolation finally and I kind of want to push the boundary a little since Alien is a movie franchise first and foremost. I want to create a fun little intro to the video using sounds/backgrounds/fonts from the franchise and I'm not sure how much I can get away with without getting a copyright strike and I am curious if any of you guys here have any insights or links to download fonts/images/backgrounds/sounds. I have a few already but I'm really desperate to create the iconic black screen with the systems green typing, only I want to decide what it types.

The font used for MUTHUR in ALIEN is called "City Lights", you're free to use it. The title of ALIEN is written in Helvetica Black.

^ Those two are the best to go with.

There's more about fonts here.

Helvetica isn't free, but I doubt anyone would care if you used it (unless you're making a lot of money from your channel).  And there are free alternatives.

You're unlikely to get a copyright strikes for sound effects.  Music possibly, but not sound effects.

Re: using Helvetica. Arial is a very close alternative and is commonly available (one or two ligatures/glyths are slightly different but you shouldn't notice the difference).

Now to be a real pain...

The classic title sequence for ALIEN movies. Do we have any tech wizard animator/editors in here who could point me in the right direction to create the title sequence using Vegas Pro? I wish to be able to type my own title etc but for it to pop up slowly the way the ALIEN title does.

Not familiar with Vegas Pro but using something like After Effects, you'd need to break the font apart so each part is a separate element. For example the letter E - you have 4 elements - the vertical main part and the 3 horizontal parts. Then you'd animate each elements accordingly to fade in at designated points on your timeline.

Sorry if that sounds obvious. I know others on here might have experience with Vegas Pro - @SiL perhaps.

Unfortunately, no! Just a whole bunch of masks, if Vegas Pro gives you control.

The long way around would be to create a series of still images, with each image being one extra piece of the title appearing, and then just cross-fade them in sequence to make it look like the pieces are fading on.

You could almost do that in Powerpoint.

You could absolutely do it in PowerPoint. It's not a complicated effect, just time consuming.

Be a bit fiddly doing bits of letters, but only a bit.

Powerpoint? Interesting choice. If you enjoy pain, be my guest  ;D

Given it's pretty easy to use and with the much improved quality, design controls, I'd just use Canva.

* Note as a 35+ year graphic designer it took me a while to warm up to Canva and not just dismiss it outright.

Yeah sadly I'm only just getting started with the Vegas software. We recently just swapped to it and I'm still learning bits and bobs here and there so I think I might just leave that idea out sadly. Thank you for all the replies here everyone! I've at least used one of the similar fonts in places that maybe some OGs will catch. Using some sound clips from the movies etc.

Pain by doing some preset crossfades?

The PowerPoint part would be easy.

The cutting up the images ... also easy, just fiddly.

@PerfectSynthetic

I just checked and I actually still an animated font that gives you the letters coming in piece by piece. It's not the same timing as in ALIEN but gives the right vibe. I can maybe share it with you if you'd like.

@SiL oh for sure and I wouldn't need the exact same timing because ALIEN is 5 letters and they can take their time but what I would change it into would be much longer so the timing isn't that big a deal. I seen someone managed to fiddle around in After Effects and create it but I'm using Vegas so I sadly couldn't take the link he left.

I do realise it'll be possible in mostly any software with patience and effort but I just sadly do not have much time to put as much effort required in to it especially for a probably boring playthrough of Alien: Isolation with a friend.

I do see the opportunity to get more creative for this playthrough though as it's Alien and I really wanna go all out and push the boundary and do some sort of greenscreen intro as well but we shall see.

Anyway! Thank you!

I have reread your message and I feel I've misunderstood yours but either way I'd be happy to see.
