Maybe my memory is fading with old age too, but I don't recall seeing the handgun/s in the theatrical version.  I thought we only got a glimpse of one in Kane's hand in the DC?

They're holstered on the hips of the spacesuits.  But otherwise yeah, we only get a good look in the DC.
