I was attempting a 100% secrets run for Alien Trilogy using Hiveseeker's excellent guide and was dismayed to discover this line for L371 - Drop Lifts
"1) Alas, you will not exit this level with 100% for SECRETS. BACKED BY A THOROUGH FAMILIARITY WITH ALL OTHER SECRET AREAS IN THIS GAME, AND AFTER HOURS AND HOURS SPENT ATTEMPTING TO ACCESS ALL SECRETS ON THIS LEVEL, I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT AN APPARENT BUG IN THE GAME PREVENTS YOU FROM ENTERING THE LAST SECRET AREA HERE."
How annoying. You can even see on the map where the secret is, and that there are enemies in there too. It's clearly a drop lift with a broken trigger that's meant to drop you into a little side room. I've been hacking at DOS Alien Trilogy quite a lot thanks to my avp map conversion, and whilst I don't know how to fix the broken lift, I do know how to change the player start position! So lets have a look shall we...
2 warriors (killed before I took the screenshot), a nice smart gun and a switch to reactivate the lift to get you back up to the main level. So now we know.
If you want to see it for yourself, backup and open
L371LEV.MAP in a hex editor, change byte at offset 28 to 0x17 and byte at offset 30 to 0x3E, then just use the NADIAPOPOV29 cheat code to warp. I'd love to find the magic bytes to get that lift working again, but this will have to do.
