Bat Chain Puller

Cvalda is definitely 'the monsters mother'.

First sighting of Space Tapir as a name goes back to 2008 with this little guy.

Spoiler

But he has none of the charm of our little bastard!

I remain a fan of Giger's space jockey, I don't think much of this thing with a face like a tapir
 Brings back memories. All the excitement and drama of that endless months-long buildup. All for nothing :'(

Oh Cvalda. Put on your cinematic crucifix and pack up your favorite androids head and climb aboard the space jockey bio-mechanical croissant. Because you we are all still searching.  ;)

A group of literary works that are generally accepted as representing a field.

Origin: My most honest guess is that the mask design of this predator reminds of celtic culture. Celts were a linguistic entity in Europe before Roman Empire, ca 800-450 B.C. For more info you'll have to look up "Celts" and their culture on wiki or in a history book.
Also production crew nickname.

Let me guess... uh... production nickname. Filmmakers thought the pointy back of the head resembled a Deacon's hat.

Origin: Well, the thing does look like some form of disc, doesn't it?
Also production crew nickname.

My gosh, have I been this blind all these years... I thought all these names were made up by you guys.

EDIT: The thing is, "origin" is supposed to bring some sense into equation. It doesn't really matters who "invented" the nickname, the important thing is the thought behind it. Makes it easier to understand it. For example deacon, as you say, production might have found it's head looking similar to the hat of a real-life deacon. Alright then, that explains it. But what about "chopper", what's the story behind it? Is it because he is "chopping" people?

I think chopper has something to do with his huge arm blades. So, yes he chops people.

Great thread that should be stickied but also summarily updated. This should help some more casual fans greatly. Keep up the good work.

Why is Wolfctopus not there yet?

HE DEMANDS TO BE MENTIONED.

BOW DOWN TO THE MIGHTY BEAST.

Nightmare Asylum

Awesome list. I'd say the Lost Predators, Chet, Trilobite, and Hammerpede deserve articles as well.

And Stickman and Pred Hounds, if they're not on there.
