Local Trouble

I always wondered why Ripley didn't bring a motion tracker.  Even with a pulse rifle, I'd be filling my trousers with bricks at every turn.

Master Chief

My guess would be because Ripley had a flamethrower and a pulse rifle. Looked like that was a lot of weight for her to carry.

Also, while everyone has interesting points, let's please stay connected to the topic and keep the debates friendly.

But in reality there is something called fight or flight instincts.

Some people like to think they'd be heroes in those types of situations and they fold. Some people rise to the occasion.

And I truly think you don't know until the adrenaline kicks in along with the surprise factor and seeing what you're dealing with all hits you in the face at once.

I say that from experience.

I was a first responder for seven years and saw many incidents (some pretty horrific). I saw a few people I trained show hesitation and even freeze in critical situations and some rose to the occasion. After talking to the ones that froze they 9 times out of 10 (in my case 3 out of four - we had one air head or literally just forgot his training on the radio but that's okay and I wasn't working that day so I blame my assistant crew chief! Jk the situation worked out and the victim was okay which is all that matters) admitted "it was a lot" "and they didn't like it". It never made me think of them any differently. Those situations are extremely overwhelming.

And to add to that I even had some outliers who did an outstanding job and they were a nervous wreck and hated being in those moments - but you would never even be able to tell with how they conducted themselves.

If we're being serious then yeah for me out of a guilty conscience I would go and try to help as many as I can. But there would be some variables. One of the things I was taught early in my career was make sure you help yourself first - otherwise you will be useless anyways.

And there's a reason that's important. Take note of Ripley going down for Parker and Lambert or Newt. She's always armed! She made sure she grabbed that shit first!

But with that being said there are some outliers and the situation could vary. What if you don't have a weapon? Are they being pulled through the door? Or are they in a nest of 500 aliens and a queen?

Some people would for sure charge in and some might not.

Good post!
