Awesome concept I love deacon design, that thing was freaky as f**k in the end
cool stuff, thanks for the link.
I like this one best

were is that from?
Gah, would you look at those Fifileld pics. So much better than what we got in the film.
looks like the Newborn almost, except not stupid.
I like this one the most. It capture what I thought would be in the movie.

The instant I saw the deacon with the nose hole skull thing, I liked it a lot better than what we got. Cool Fifield concepts as well.

So fantastically weird.
They must have run out of money and couldn't afford to do these like this ... transparent, painful looking gigantism of the cranium. Judging from the making of book, it looks like they did lean towards these designs for awhile but didn't go with them in favor of Burn Victim Astronaut Contortionist Caveman.
AWESOME!!!!
Thanks!!!
Can we have a concept art thread?
So we can keep track of all those images?
Maybe you can rename the thread name to CONCEPT ART?
I have a unseen design available to share :)

Thanks for those.
Finally some Engineer designs.
Man i wish we had some of these creatures in the film. There couldve been a holloway one, a fifield one, and a milburn one.
All in different versions.....then the end creature would be a more "defined" version.
Eh... Still a bit too Newborn for my tastes.
all designs are cool except alien head with eyes→ newborn
@Bat Chain Puller
i love that one the most as well. so awesome :'(
Every so slightly broken hearted we never got to see any of this in the film.
WTF were they thinking?
It looks like they had everything good in place, and just went with a diluted option
I want to cry a little...
Think of it this way; it could of been worse...

Knowing what they intended...why didn't they go with Fifield's full mutation? Far more interesting visually and exciting for the storyline.
I thought Fifield was going to be a total badass, real duplicitous, aggressive bastard. Very poor decision to make him a "weak" personality whose agression only returns when he starts to mutate.
It would have been better to have him envious of Shaw/Holloway - he showed signs in the briefing scene, I like his attempts to undermine them. It should have followed this route more, and he could have become ONE of their nemesis's.
Anyway.... :s
This pretty much ties up the thought that Fitfield was going to transform into an alien. Remember one of the early trailers where it was noted that the creature throwing a crew member into the vehicle had a shiny head?
Something is definitely weird. It has become obvious that the film entered production with the intention of having Fitfield transform into an alien. I really wonder what happened that made Scott change his mind and how many scenes were shot but cut when they decided not to go this route.

Woah, awesome.
Call me crazy, but I kind of like the design pf this "Deacon".
I think where it goes wrong, is the mouth. I like the inner jaw, but the mouth is too big, and makes it look like a Pteranodon or something. I like the concept art here because it's a much smaller mouth, even with the thinner lower jaw, it ends up looking so much better.

I think it needs a tail.
Nah. Doesnt need a tail.. if i want to see the good old xeno i'll just watch Alien and Aliens. :P
The deacon in the movie was the best of the new designs. Bring on the sequel with the full adult version. My body is ready. ;)

You're spot on. Apparently the goblin shark was a major inspiration for the creature design:

Aha' nature don't fail me now...and shit... xD
I've always viewed the Xeno's as a rapidly evolving species with each subsequent generation having noticeably different features than the previous generation. That's why it's been referred to as "the perfect organsim". When it takes humans thousands of years to develop features to suit our enviroment, when it can happen to Xeno's in just one or two generations. I believe the Deacon is just an early form of Xeno that will evolve into the one that we know and even continue into who-knows-what eventually.

There are a few frames in the film where the creature DID look like the Alien from Alien vs Ninjas. A dinosauroid, dolphin-esque snout and teeth. But thankfully, it was only during one of the brief fade in/out shots.
When the inner jaw juts out, I thought it was great.

Couldnt of said it better.
it might have been too "the thing" if Fifield had mutated
but then again, the studio could have just wanted to dumb down the "horror"
or
ridley scott changed his mind

Yeah. From what I saw in the art book ... the final Fifield monster actually looked very similar to a 'realistic' Mars Attacks alien or the Chattering Cenobite from Hellraiser.

I've made my piece with Burn Victim Astronaut Contortionist Caveman.
However, a part of me wants a semi-gelatinous, pain-wracked, horribly distorted abomination that's last scrap of humanity is just looking to be put out of it's misery.

Some of the pictures of the proto Alien looks great and some remind me Silent Hill-ish art... but saying that, Silent Hill monsters are very giger looking as well.
