Holy shit there is a heap of new stuff in there... seems like the 'are these things moving' somethings are some kind of eel thing that lives in little rivers of black ooze on the floor of the temple. One of the characters reaches down and it launches itself into his arm.

Some of the dialogue I heard was, I think, Fifield saying "Did you see that?!" ANd someone saying "You need to calm down!"

(I hate when they do a double-dub job like that. Worst way to translate something into another language.)

Don't know why, but it reminds me of that scene in Star Wars when they're caught in the trash compactor.

"It's your imagination, kid."

NIce find thanks.

In those moments when Fifield and Millburn are meeting with the slug you can see that the urns are leaking their biomechanical material all over the place. Seems like there's a lot of leftovers from when the shit hit the fan in the ENGINEER's base

The way Vickers and mutated Holloway are talking in the hangar makes me wonder if we don't end up with two factions on the ship. Those embracing the Engineer's technology (and get mutated) and those fighting it.
Could explain why we can hear "they are leaving for earth"

The CGI black goo added to the ampules when David remove them from the urns is incredibly well done.

Oh and love the cloaked Engineer "king" walking toward the waterfall (next shot is definitly him watching his hand).

Now imagine that scene where instead of being really lame the creature forced itself into Luke's body and melted his face from the inside.

Some lovely stuff there - and even a nod to Alien Resurrection!  I get the feeling Ridley's peppered the film with little references to all the previous Alien films.  Love the opening shot of the ship approaching the planet - great way to film with the fixed view on a rotating ship.

I speculate that it is not an engineer but a primitive human. He/she wanders up to the edge of the falls and looks up to see the giant disk shaped craft rolling over head, and then something happens, resulting in the imagery from the official trailer of the bald humanoid at the falls going through some kind of physical change.

This is simply a shot of an Engineer walking toward the cliff that precede the shot where he's looking at his hand.

He just looks sort of similar to the giant head and the giant bald dude who also looks similar to the giant head.

However, as you said, nothing is confirmed. We will find out soon enough. Fun to debate over it though.

I'm wondering if this is the very same footage (sans Russian overdubbing) that we will be seeing on Sunday?

anyone else notice the scene where mutated Fifield throws unsuspecting chap looks different? Fifield's body doesn't look as elongated, nor does his head look as gigantic as it did in the original footage in the first teaser trailer.

hmmm...

So the scene with the snake thing in the fluid - with Milburn (think that's who it was) leaning waay over to have a nosy... thinking that's got to be the set up for the snake thing getting in the suit shot shown in earlier trailers.  The last few frames seem to show something leaping up and impacting his arm.

Looks like the thing David removes from the ampule could be the same thing removed from Shaws stomach.

The serpents roaming over there without any kind of contention coming from the engineers..., could this serpents being the true alien species the engineers found in that very planet, and then something went very wrong with that?

A couple of details

Notice the juggernaut/engineer ship taking off from its underground hangar in the background
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi45.tinypic.com%2F4q25tt.jpg&hash=a591fa8b58434f88ead6d77f8a510102df7fbecc)

Script pages - apparently Vickers doesn't believe in the mission objective, suggesting they will find nothing
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi48.tinypic.com%2F1z5it11.jpg&hash=d637593aa50148807188792007c23b668399ac16)

At some time during the film, Janek will find himself inside the tempel structure (I guess)

A great look at the ringed giant planet
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi46.tinypic.com%2F4gow47.jpg&hash=fa5a87e33164783c7ca997dd752fec5e47e38bd1)

The size of the chair is suggested in these shots with the crew next to it. It is smaller than the chair in Alien (unless they will use trickery again to make it seem bigger than it really is)

A better look at the Prometheus lifeboat on the ground
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi46.tinypic.com%2F9kxmd3.jpg&hash=a8b0c8a3300a35f6e0f6f07cdf4727b2d1adc808)

You're absolutely right!  Perhaps they're cleaning up on the special effects, like with other shots.

All the things in this featurette are incredible - almost too much to take in at once, with the actors talking in front of new footage.  The Prometheus rotating over the planet (similar to the Nostromo) was nicely shot and looked great with all the little lights popping on the planet's surface.
I almost cringe at the shot of the "acid in helmet" clip.  We've seen it so much but with the strange black ooze it struck me harder this time around...

QuoteAnyone notice what appears to be a second 'mound' structure in the background of the shot featuring the airbourne explosion?

Yes, and there are several more, four or five (we see that in another still from other trailers).
Which should raise speculation : what are really those ? Why is there more than one of them ? Why is the alien spaceship hidden underground ? What is the meaning of this, an elaborated trap, a misunderstanding, but to what aims ? etc.

QuoteAll the things in this featurette are incredible

Indeed. I think they wanted to deliver something special, and for what we can see, they've kind of achieved it, on the artistic level at least. Usually I don't really care about books like "The Art of [insert film title here]", but that is not the case for Prometheus. I like the reuse of Giger's concepts, I like the visual universe they've created by expanding what Alien made us discover...

About $100 million. A week of theatrical release, if everything will go well.

the visuals of this movie are absolutely mindblowing.
i could watch two hours of just the actors running around in the Prometheus ship :D

also i like what they did with the soundtrack of the movie.
a minimalistic soundtrack like in ALIEN just wouldn't fit this movie. the music they made for Prometheus has this common bombastic hollywood-epicness approach, but also some mystic elements which i like very much.

oh f*** only a little over two months to go now....

Perhaps someone already mentioned this, but did you notice how the Prometheus rotates around its own axis when approaching the planet surface - just like The Nostromo did when approaching LV-426?  :)

I mentioned it earlier, but it's a great point.  I do like how they changed the angle of the camera so that we follow the pathway of the Prometheus and it looks like the planet is rotating around it (instead of vice versa like in the original film).

True that... I wonder if it's a sly reference to Kubricks 2001 from Ridley... I remember a shot of a shuttle approaching the giant ferriswheel spacestation. At first the shuttle is seen rotating when approaching the hanger, aligning itself. Next we see the scene from the shuttles perspective and now it's everything else that rotates, just like you describe  :)

The eel like creature kind of looks like a hand or maybe even a face hugger.

I remember there being a scene of shaw in the med pod with some green squid like appendages over her. The mutant who throws the crew member into the ground vehicle for a split second looks to have the something like that where his mouth should be. So are facehugger people!? :P

Also just how many time do they travel into the harkonnen? Most of the crew has to be inside of it when the Prometheus crashes into the juggernaut. And another point, does shaw get smashed by the juggernaut after she falls? After every trailer Vickers is seeming to became the major character here. Unless she is an android... a yutani model. :P

We haven't heard the proper music to Prometheus. Movie trailer music and featurette stuff is usually not made up of music from the film's score.

We're actually under two months now. A month and a week, give or take a few days.

Nah, from the still images we saw of the creature in the previous trailers, it's very much just like an eel, or a big leech.

Yeah, the thing over Shaw in the med bay is actually attached to her by an umbilicus.

I think it's very likely the team goes to it just the one time, and then returns to the Prometheus during the storm, then some of them return to find the Engineer preparing to take off and go kill everybody.

I had some random thoughts that people might be interested in.

Firstly, I think that the scene with David wearing the yellow visor is where he's viewing the dreams of those in cryosleep. Alan Dean Foster's novelizations have some extended openings about 'dreamers' and I wonder if David learns about human behaviour during the long FTL outbound trip in this way....

Second, the pictograms. Particularly the 'Skye' pictogram, where the spheres seem to have crosses on them, which resemble the cross-like apertures on the spherical laser scanners the explorers use. The pictogram looks like some tall guy throwing up these scanning spheres, rather like Fifield throws the spheres in the alien corridor. Why such an image would end up in Earth's past I don't know...

Finally, interesting article in New Scientist about an underground tomb complex being studied by laser scanners - interesting timing....and familiar-looking graphics!

Hi Ucdom,

LIDAR based 3-D surveying has been around for some time.  The industry leader in these devices are made by Leica -- Geosystems division:

http://www.leica-geosystems.com/en/HDS-Laser-Scanners-SW_5570.htm (http://www.leica-geosystems.com/en/HDS-Laser-Scanners-SW_5570.htm)

When the LIDAR data is incorporated into a 3-D computer modeling program, the results are pretty amazing:

The real action begins around 00:35, when the perspective zooms in, and the camera moves around the town (Stratford-upon-Avon, England)

They're standins. Typically films have standins in place for the real actors while lighting and composition are worked out. It would be a waste of the actors time to have them do that. Smaller budgeted films however may use the actors to save money.

Some interesting thoughts...

I'm thinking that David wearing that helmet/visor, enables him to monitor the crew cryo tubes at all times, no matter where he is located on The Prometheus or what he's doing during the 2 year journey out. There has to be a reason why it's so easy portable, me thinks...

I'm pretty certain the pictograms depict star positions seen from Earth. The similarity of the various pictograms, is what essentially makes Shaw and Holloway believe it's a real location and hence the plot of the film.

2. art department or lighting department standing in for the characters to get the scene and camera positions right.
3. some other unknown characters in the films yet to be identified (oddly posing in the same positions as fassbender and marshall-green) whats up with that?.

???

Im going Number 2, but it is rare this actor standing in Marshall-Green place. As the other one, his hair reminds me some statements in this forum about 2 androids, and this other blonde guy in the ampule room.

Sorry, OT but responding to terraformer.

"Thanks, but no thanks."

I have been a long-time lurker on this site (look at my post count :/ ) and rather enjoy the format and discussions on avpgalaxy. I have been a fan of this site every since.... gosh, it's been years and I personally think that your comments about this site are troll-ish and unwarranted; this site has a very dedicated staff and the flow of news suits my personal taste. If the other forum suits your needs, this is fine too, I just think it was wrong of for you to come in here and trash this fine operation and promote your forum of choice in the process; not the best way to promote it IMO.

P.S. "troll-infested" is the pot calling the kettle black?

I don't recall any trolls here (except for those that were brought here from other sites to blindly attack us, that is).

You guys have a nice looking site and all, but I'm more than happy with this one. There are great people here that I have grown to really love talking to, and this site is an excellent source of all news Alien and Predator related. I won't be leaving here any time soon. :)

I usually end up really enjoying reading the Prometheus Forums.  But like any other forum, there are some silly members and ideas, as well as those with great, thought provoking discussions.  Ours is no different.  What has been pissing me off lately are the comments attacking AvPGalaxy.  Usually when I come across them in the Prometheus Forums they're off topic and I find them blatantly offensive.

It helps if you don't call out a site as shit before offering them to join your forum.  Many already have.  You're a horrendous example of an otherwise great forum and collection of Alien/Prometheus fans.

Sincerely,
Mr Space Jockey.

"Not completely ignorant."

Now moving back on topic, any guesses to what those bright lights are shining off LV-223?  They're seen during the Prometheus ship's rotation and its descent towards the planet.

from all the member creations: ron swanston is the best!

on topic: does anybody think the new featurette is spoilerish?  ???

I hated that scene in Alien Resurection. This one with david looks much better tho, but if Riddley wanted to pay a homage to Resurection, he could have chosen another scene...Or maybe he wanted to show how to make a horrible scene looks good? Whatever it is, its not a coincidence I think...

subtle fan-service, maybe? as for the scene with marshall-green in the RT01, where he's cheering up, like a hudson moment. maybe that's what scott meant with alien-dna? either that or we are just reading too much into it.

i mean those scenes have to be in the script first, so maybe they decided to kill all the xeno traits and rather re-make iconic scenes from the pervious movies?

QuoteGYMNASIUM - BASKETBALL COURT
Jim shoots baskets. He's brought dozens of balls onto the court. He no longer rebounds, just grabs the nearest ball.
He shoots from half court. From even farther away. Long shots, bounce shots off the wall.

There's one part

QuoteGYMNASIUM - BASKETBALL COURT - DAY
Jim and Aurora play one-on-one. She's not especially good, but fiercely competitive. They jostle and scramble, laughing.
Aurora snags the ball. For a minute she just stands there, beaming.
JIM
What are you so happy about?
AURORA I'm up two points!
She cuts around him toward the basket..

can anyone give me more info about what Vickers was saying in the part where she has an incinerator?

Also - what is the Holloway-David conversation about? I know it has some old dialogue - but it looks like there is some new stuff there too. Any ideas?

Can anyone help?

I imagine it's this...

"He even asks Holloway, 'Why did you make me?'" reveals director Ridley Scott. "And he says, 'Because we could.' So David responds, 'How would you feel if your maker said that about you?' Does David have feelings? You f**king bet he has feelings."

If you mean the dialogue at 0:58 time mark, then here is it:
David: "How far would you like to get searching answers all the way for? what are you willing to do?"
Holloway:"Anything..." (can't understand what he says next, but the meaning is Holloway is quite insolent and impetuous)
You are welcome!  :)

A storm isnt a big of a deal to mention unless its something strange and with strange i mean a storm inside a ship would be pretty awkward.
So my guess also something alien like.

He says "outside," not "inside."

But it's too hard to tell for now.  It could still be the storm however, considering he's not just saying its outside the ship (which is obvious), but that it's RIGHT outside the ship.  Like, very, very close, which is what we've seen in the material so far.

Just an idea I got after watching the extended featurette, but is it possible that they pilot the Promethus remotely into the jockey ship? That scene with the captain in the suit may be after the collision. Just a thought.

"It's right outside the ship" might be referencing the Juggernaut which is also seen right beside Prometheus, and apparently about to take off.

Is it the voice of Guy Pearce at the beginning of the video?

I can't confirm it, but it sure sounds like it (as Weyland)... or they are leading us to believe that it is.

Yes this is from the hologram speeach he gives to the crew in the hangar before Shaw and Holloway make their.

I think Janek and the bridge crew pilot the ship in an act of desperation whilst Vickers takes an escape pod. Shaw and David are likely planet side still... and i'd venture to guess everyone else is deader than a box.

Vickers: "Lets say I'm wrong, and you do find these beings down there..."
Holloway: "Miss Vickers, is there an agenda that your not telling us about?"

...

Vickers: "They were right."
Janek: "Did you want them to be wrong?!"

My money's still on Vickers being some kind of goddamn Succubus! (Tree-Fiddy!)

The "Take us home" plea from Vickers is surely the big give away to her odd character because it appears that moments later she is seen jettisoning herself to safety! My guess is that she rigs the Prometheus on a collision course with the Juggernaut - I am presuming that Janek only intended to follow it and shoot it down?

It would be too boring if she was simply an executive mole or an Ash-like android. She clearly already 'knows' abouth the Engineers and perhaps what caused their extinction. I'm guessing she is returning to finish the job. Perhaps she is the Engineers' Nemesis, or part of some kind of galactic Opus Dei, or maybe even the devil incarnate?!

She is definitely a 'suit' for something - but I seriously doubt that its anything human.

Vickers' agenda could very well be the most intriguing part of the Prometheus story.

Vickers seems to be that mundane company representative who only has the company's concerns in mind. but what if these concerns are actually her own? what if her "cold" behaviour is just misleading us as well as the other characters in the movie?

because so far it seems like Vickers is the only clear thinking person on that ship. she is very sceptical about the "meeting" with these alien creatures and seems to be the first one who wants to return to earth, maybe because she wants to prevent bad things to happen.

of course her secret agenda could be that she knows that Weyland is on the ship and is intended to help him on his quest for...immortality or whatever. but that doesn't really make her a "bad" character afterall.
it could very well be that she is the secret hero of this movie who is going to save earth from the Engineers attack and is the one character that has been thinking reasonably from the beginning on - opposed to the naive behaviour of Shaw, Holloway and especially Milburn ("oh hey there strange alien-snake-creature - OH MY GAWD ITS IN MY SUIT").

At 2:44, Janek says "It's right outside the goddamned ship."  :o

Wonder what he's referring to....

possibly someone that was left behind at the temple (left for dead) --now resurrected. We later see someone, still inside their spacesuit-- with arms outstretched  (as if to say I surrender myself) approaching the Prometheus bay doors. I believe Vickers and Janek (armed with flamethrowers) welcome them back with a warm embrace!  Fifield pick axes someone and hurls them like a rag doll in this bay as well.

Ever since Lindelof openly joked about what company Vickers worked for - as if it were a clue to the story - people have speculated that she works as a spy for the rival Yutani company and is there to control the effects and results of the expedition. In any case - it is far from being clear what exactly is her big agenda, which Theron said, was possibly the biggest out of any of the characters. It is said that it is revealed in the last act of the film - and it will reveal Vickers as a flawed and heartbreaking character.

i don't know if this video has already been posted? at least it has some scenes i didn't notice before.

i just noticed that the control device for the starmap which David is using has a "laser-membrane" (yeah this word is nonsense but i didn't know what else to call it) which is very similar to the light-layer above the Eggs in ALIEN.

it also seems to "react" when David is touching it. i think they were inspired to choose this design by the Egg silo scene in ALIEN.

take a look at 0:56

That was the original behind the scenes footage.  That's why this thread is called the "extended" version, and was released shortly after "The Adventure Begins."

Right after you see 'The World' title card in the English only Russian extended featurette, you hear really beautiful and melodic music led by a lone woman's voice. I hope that's from the sound track.

Beautiful - I also hope that the score will have that tone. I don't know Marc Streitenfield's work at all, although I do keep meaning to listen to Robin Hood, so I can't guess what we're likely to get.
I do know that the two trailers for Star Trek 2009 had absolutely incredible music, but then Michael Giacchino's score ended up being a bit lame.

We'll see. I just want to me moved to tears - not just by an amazing story - but by the beauty of the images and sounds. I remember the impact that my first viewing of Alien had on me, of the lighting, the visual and audio tone, and just being obsessed by trying to work out all the camera setups. For me it's a great work of art, and I'm hoping our artist will present another masterpiece.

Oh god that Freedom Fighters track was great wasn't it? Such a shame the only decent track in the actual score was Enterprising Young Men.
Then again, the whole of Trek09 was drivel - the plot had more holes than a swiss cheese, and the director screwed over the most important story telling element of the film - the edit - by primarily shooting scenes from one angle with a steadicam.
