I'm presuming it's going to be Cold Forge. That would make sense.
Fantastic news! Will it be Rage War book 1 or Cold Forge I wonder.
I'm happy with either but honestly, I'd love to see Dirk tackle something completely his own.

I'd be quite interested in seeing Dirk do some of the old Bantam/Millenium novels. Hell, just adapt some of the newer comics too. f**k it, do them all.
Yea I would also say Cold Forge would be nice or one of the newer comic books.
I love the audio here in germany Ripley got here voice from our usual synchro actress for Sigourney Weaver and other very familiar voices of other famous actors.

Seriously though I'm curious as it is the 40th anniversary of Alien I'm curious what this will be.
If history is anything to go by, we should be learning about this in the last few days of this month.

The guy that does "Alien Theory" on youTube has done some precised versions of some of the comics and novels... he has an eminently listenable to voice.

I really hadn't been expecting this but I'm actually quite excited. It's sweet to have Biehn and Henriksen back. I think Maggs will have been more interested in modifying the story, so I wonder if he fixed the issues (assuming they're doing the 2nd draft again).

Thank you Jesus and audible.
And on Easter no less.
A great and impossible wish has come true.
Lance and Biehn. What a trip. A real bonus here is that all the folks who wanted aliens 2 will now get it, in a way.
I LOVE the Audible dramas so this is amazing news to read and super excited! I've stayed clear of the comics as I am waiting for the complete edition in July bur have heard relatively good things about it 👍
I'd never see THAT coming!
Is this based on the same story as the recently released Gibson ALIEN 3 comic books? If so, I´m less exited, as in my own opinion I thought the story (at least the comic, I never read any other related material) of the comic just horrible. But surely, I might stand alone with that notion. Anyway, nice to have Biehn and Henriksen back, that´s awesome.
Wow. Just wow.
Drop your linen and stop your grinning.
Can't wait. As in the past Dirk Magg's audio dramas have added another dimension to some of the previous novels and improved on them.
I can get on the actual page now. It's just not available on the UK side.
QuoteAudible is bringing William Gibson's lost Alien III script to life in audio for the first time, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the birth of the Alien Franchise.
Alongside a full cast Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen reprise their iconic roles as Corporal Hicks and Bishop from the 1986 film Aliens.
Father of cyberpunk, William Gibson's original script for Alien III, written in 1987 as a sequel to Aliens, never made it to our screens, although it went on to achieve cult status among fans as the third instalment that might have been after being leaked online.
This terrifying, cinematic multicast dramatisation - directed by the multi award-winning Dirk Maggs, is the chance to experience William Gibson's untold story and its terrifying, claustrophobic and dark encounters between humans and aliens, as a completely immersive audio experience.
The story begins with the Sulaco on its return journey from LV-426. On board the military ship are the cryogenically frozen skeleton crew of that film's survivors: Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop.
We travel aboard and hear an alarm blare. Our heroes are no longer alone....
Staring: Tom Alexander , Barbara Barnes, Michael Biehn, Cliff Chapman, Samantha Coughlan, Ben Cura, Dar Dash, Harry Ditson, Mairead Doherty, Lance Henriksen, Graham Hoadly, Lorelei King, Laurel Lefkow, Martin McDougall, Sarah Pitard, Michael Roberts, David Seddon, Andrew James Spooner, Siri Steinmo, Dai Tabuchi, Keith Wickham, Rebecca Yeo
Can't see a release date.
Excuse me while I go run down my street like a maniac because fack yesh I want Michael Biehn's voice in my car.
I hope he sounds more enthusiastic than he did in acm
He notoriously disliked that whole experience because of how passionless GBX were. I doubt he'd have felt that kind of atmosphere with Dirk.
While none of the scripts for the third film have wowed me, it will be nice to hear these two reprising their famous roles.

I'm glad that we're able to see something like this. Not a huge fan of Audio Drama's personally like to see it rather than hear it. However this peaks my interest and at least I can visualize what's going on if I'm invested enough. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to an original draft of any of the other alien or pred films?

Dirk Maggs has done 3 audiodramas for the alien franchise so far. The first 3 were adaptations of out of the shadows, River of pain and sea of sorrows. Extremely well done! Best things in the franchise since the original trilogy of films and isolation!! I'd highly recommend them!

Still haven't heard sea of sorrows, but the other two were just magnificent. River of pain is just slightly my favorite, but that's probably because of Colin's voicework. Hard to believe we're actually going to hear the real hicks and bishop again. Holy Moses.

Read the actual script. For seriously. I didn't care for what little I saw of the comic. The actual script is Gibson's pure take. It's magic. I'm not a fan of any film sequels in the vein of aliens, but Gibson's script is art. Don't miss it. I believe there were two, one is more action heavy than the other. Both fantastic.

You're welcome!!
Wow Gibson's script is getting the royal treatment this year. I enjoyed the comic adaptation but I really ought to read the original scripts. Laurel Lefkow is amongst the cast most likely reprising her role as Ripley!
Oh...
Well, that's nice, I guess...
Having not read the comic, is this at all reconcilable as, like, an Alien 2.5 deal, fitting between Aliens and Alien3?
I always wondered if Biehn was even aware of this script and what could have been. Now I know...
No more like an alternative branch in the canon to David fincher's Film.
Cool news. Unexpected but welcome. Hopefully Michael Biehn gets to play Hicks again in the near future in a proper sequel to Aliens.
Disappointing news.
Although I love the cast, I wanted a TCF Audio Drama.
This is cool. I love Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen, I hate Alien3, and I don't remember the script very well, but I remember liking it. I think the viral spores was a "tad" against the series, which is funny that they ended up doing that in Covenant. I think my argument was to either take the spores out and focus on the Aliens or take out the Aliens and make it an original script. Which actually gave me an idea for my own original sci-fi horror series, so yeah, that script was an influence on me. And I love the audio dramas, I'm listening to River of Pain during my daily commute right now.
This is great news! ;D

Cool. Hopefully he can tidy it up and give us some interesting alterations.
I'm under the impressions that Maggs made some continuity corrections in River Of Pain ?
He's made changes to all of them, adding continuity and making them work for the format - such as the voice module for Ash in Out of the Shadows.
I'm hoping he does try and smooth out some of the issues with the draft.
It's going to be so great to hear Biehn as Hicks again.

This is so awesome sounding I can't wait to hear this! It'd essentially be the same as a straight up adaptation of the original comics but I'd love to hear an audio drama based on the Aliens Vs. Predator The Hunt script.

You should give the previous dramas from Audible a go.
I'm not a fan of regular audiobooks - I'd far rather read the book myself - but these dramas are much more than someone just narrating the novel.
I'll be honest in saying I often prefer the 'what ifs' over so-called 'canon'...You eventually get sick about the same infestations and Colonial Marines coming in to fix it fan-fiction...It truly gets boring.
Check out Vincent Ward's "The Navigator" and then read his script to give you an inkling of what it might be like.

https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/michael-biehn-looks-back-at-the-terminator-and-gives-his-take-on-the-unused-alien3-script
Interesting. I never really considered how much more he talks in the Gibson script - but I guess that comes with being elevated to the starring role.
I agree with his point. Hicks is sorta like Han in that he has a very specific "voice" that can be hard for a lot of writers to nail.
So was the comic at all condensed to fit the five issue space? Because I'm curious if this audiodrama will go the same route or actually use every ounce of material on Gibson's script.
I believe the comic was indeed abridged.
I actually kinda hope they let Biehn tweak the dialogue a bit for Hicks. It sounds like he understands the character better than Gibson did.
Just glancing at the script and comic script for issue one and it's often word for word including the descriptions.
Hicks mentioned some changes in his review:
QuoteThere are some very small differences from the scripts with the more noticeable being the shuffling about of scenes to better work with the opening of issues or creating cliff-hangers at the end of issues. The small differences are mostly an occasional piece of dialogue removed and the major differences mostly revolve around one character, Halliday. Her introduction with Hicks is completely removed and she's killed much earlier than in the script.
It really wasn't that different. The occasional snip in dialogue was like the last comment in a sentence or such. The adaptation was incredibly faithful for the script.
Hicks sounded a bit upset for making his character one that swears too much. He's right, his character was pretty calm and collective in Aliens. Pre-ordered the TPB and waiting for the audiobook to come out on Audible. Should be decent with him doing the talking.
He isn't Hicks, he's Michael Biehn lol.
And I don't get upset, just unimpressed.

I'm tempted to make a pseudo motion comic with the audio drama and the comic, depending on how close it is.

Being quiet and collected won't work well in an audio drama.
It kind of hinges on dialogue and sound.
So I thought this is supposed to release today ?
No, tomorrow. Turns out the recording with Lance was super late scheduled and Dirk only just finished the mix with his audio yesterday.
Really.
That's amazing that he can get it out tomorrow if he only finished yesterday.
Im so excited for this.
Thanks for the insight Hicks
That's a nice surprise.
Just got the email that it's now available to download.
Just did it. It's a lot shorter than the other Audio Dramas. It's 2hrs 16mins

Yeah. It fleshes things out nicely. I like his comments about the means to which he got 'infected'
It's a bit odd in some ways. The beginning is like a dramatic audiobook but then it transitions into a normal audio drama like the rest of them.
Could probably do without the Aliens recap at the beginning, but it's not bad. Henriksen's VO can be distracting at times, though, especially at the beginning. A lot of his sibilant sounds come out as whistles at the beginning, but if they had limited time to finish his parts, I imagine that's the reason why, and it would have been improved if they'd been able to.
I shall definitely be giving it another listen in conjunction with reading the comic, to get a better audiovisual experience, as I feel it's a lot clearer what's going on in this than in the comic.
Anyone recognize the sound effect for the New Beast/Hybrid?
Thanks, just bought it, is it really only 2hrs and 16 mins or is that a typo? Usually Audiobooks are 5-8 hrs.
I made that thought to start with but he's adapting a 2 hour long screenplay so I think it makes sense it's only film length.

Im gonna have a guess at either the Decon or the Neomorph ?
I've just listened to it again, whilst reading through the comics, and it's amazing just how abridged the comics are. No wonder I had trouble keeping up with what was going on when reading, there are huge chunks missing.
The two combined do work really well together, and it's interesting to see what was cut from each version which was kept in the other.

The comic was actually fairly accurate to the script. Dirk Maggs says the drama's been expanded.

I've just reread the script and, while the audio drama has been expanded and modified as is needed for an audio only format, I stand by my previous point.
There are big chunks in the script and the audio drama which are glossed over in the comic. There are also sections of the audio drama which completely miss out parts of the script which are shown in the comic.
In general I find the audio drama flows better, and the comic feels condensed and a bit choppy.

Doesn't really matter. They're both the same story. I think the audio drama flows better so it might make understanding the comic easier, but that's just my opinion.
How much involvement did William Gibson actually have for these things? Other than you know, writing the script long ago.

Listening to it now. The noises they use for the Hybrid are simply awesome. Upon hearing them my neck hairs stood up on end, it sounded like a mix of infrasound and something else vile.
I swear i hear the clicking of the Neomorph in the 'Hybrids' vocalisation.
So i finished it yesterday and i love it. Biehn did a much better job hear than he did with colonial marines.
Do you know. What we need now is a novelisation of this screenplay. All tidied up and expanded to 500 page book.
I've listened to it through 1 and a bit times so far and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. Unfortunately, my main issue with Fox's flip out still exists in this version too but I absolutely love hearing this all come together! I especially enjoying hearing Biehn and Henriksen again. Biehn sounds way more into this than his work on Colonial Marines.
I'm pretty keen to hear Laurel Lefkow take on Ripley in an adaptation of Ward/Fasano's script now.

'Tis a curiosity and nothing more.
It's clearly based upon an outdated idea and the original creator's involvement is sorely lacking.
The audiobook's superior to the comic for Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen alone though.
Anyone else think it was weird how Bishop acknowledged the Xeno's from Alien/Aliens being different from one another?
Just finished listening and I really enjoyed this! Between this and the comic, Gibson's Alien 3 has truly been realized. Maggs did another fantastic job and after hearing this I'd be very interested in him adapting another comic series (Dead Orbit please). Here's to hoping the one a year trend continues!

I still prefer the Alien 3 that was released in 1992, but I'm very glad that this has had both a comic and audiobook release. It's had a lot more love given to it than I'd have expected from Fox.

Just finished listening to it. I really enjoyed it - I would've loved a longer runtime (given how spoilt we were with Magg's other productions) but this for me complimented the comic so well. It cleared up a bit of the confusion I felt reading the comic as well.
Great to hear Mike and Lance again too.
I'm really liking the audible while I'm waiting for the TPB. This had a nice tone and world building potential kind of like Isolation/Defiance/Resistance has now. Just 25 years earlier. Pretty cool stuff, I wonder if this story could have expanded or did it feel a bit too much like Star Trek with the factions to the producers then?
Really liking the voice overs, all voices actually, and that subtle background sound/music. Really well done audible. 1/3 done only, trying not to finish it so fast.
Interesting take on this. Loved the voice overs and story. Setting was excellent, characters were ok too.
Spoiler
I didn't like the touch this and you're infected concept. Interesting how much it resembles Covenant in that aspect. I mean the way infection spreads is too much like a Zombie/Res Evil or The Thing movie.
It completely changes the whole Alien concept.. Had it just had normal Aliens abducting people and transforming them via facehuggers it would have been better I thought. Since there was no Alien queen, eggmorphing could have been used brilliantly here.
But I guess there's no action involved with that so bring out the hybrid crap.
Well this gets a nice 7.5/10 but much higher if again

It did have a normal alien. The one on the UPP ship is a normal one.
The whole point of the 'infection' was because it was genetically modified by scientists at anchorpoint.
If you didn't like it, it, won't change that, but it at least there's a reason behind it, and it isn't trying to replace the original.
Ok that makes good sense.

Spoiler
I've not listened to much of the drama yet, but from my memory of the script the opposite is actually said - the U.P.P. tinker with the Aliens they breed on Rodina and they're specifically described as being altered because of it. Conversely it's never said the Anchorpoint crew are similarly messing with their DNA, merely studying it. Instead the Aliens there suddenly develop this airborne pathogen reproductive cycle seemingly on their own.
The only O.G. Alien in the story is the one on the Sulaco, that comes out of Kurtz, then later gets on Anchorpoint and has the showdown with the "newbreed" Alien at the end.
Of course, maybe they changed all that in the drama.

I don't think the William Gibson script is anywhere near the realm of Alien or Aliens, (especially don't enjoy the out of nowhere virus) but it's a decent basis for a idea.

Wow! That's earth shattering. We're almost close to being on the same page on this subject since you joined the fun on this forum. In truth I don't think either of us knows what Blomkamp's film would be so tough to judge it. Maybe I wouldn't be happy with it. Maybe you would. Who knows? I didnt particularly like the Gibson Alien 3 direction. I just liked the idea of using these amazing characters. I think the old Verheiden series is in some ways a good blueprint for a new Aliens continuation, though there are many elements there that I could do without.
I never really got that enthused about passing the torch either. It was more about a good proper closure. Of course you can't have all the worst things befall one character over and over again. That's ridiculous. But one good final send off would be amazing...
So is there a way to buy this audio drama without having to get s subscription to audible?
I don't enjoy Neill Blomkamp as a Director, on the most basic level, a massive upgrade is required, in my opinion.
And I always thought the Mark Verheiden series was ridiculous and cliché, it's just repeating the old invasion story that equates Aliens with illegal Aliens, or a foreign force.
I just have no interest in that story on a fundamental level for the Alien franchise, I think every Alien film is more interesting than that so far.
It is ridiculous the idea of it occurring over and over again to the same individual, and I stand by my statement that you're essentially more likely to carry it back with you, than return to face it on your own terms for a second or third time.

Sorry if this has been answered, but was the line in this script about the Alien DNA being an ancient designed weapon ( and also the mutating grey stuff) always in the script ? Pretty interesting that some of the Prometheus ideas were floating about even back then.
EDIT: I'm only half way through the audio.
I think so. Hicks love to mention how much Covenant borrowed from Gibson's script.

Yeah the word ancient really puts the cat among the pigeons there when you put it in the sentence. I really like how this script doesn't pussy foot around with vague ideas, it straight up puts some science in there.
Pseudo-science.
I've never really been a fan of the Gibson scripts, but the recent adaptations have really brought it to life in a way that's been pretty enjoyable. Henriksen does sound quite old in this, but it's okay once you get used to it. Some of the big violent scenes with people transforming into Hybrids are laughably underplayed.
But overall it ended up being a fun listen - despite the fact it really emphasises how much more work this script needed. It's very uneven, and there's no obvious hero until the final act when Hicks takes on the mantle. But he's often absent throughout the first half, and I think this displays that he's really a sidekick rather than the hero. Spence, Tatsumi, Fox, Welles, Jackson, Rosetti, Sterling, Walker and Halliday are all underdeveloped and almost interchangeable (okay maybe not Fox and Welles). Tully has a bit more to work with, but not much.
Maggs and co did a pretty good with the material they had to work with.
This has reminded me that I completely forgot to finish the drama :-[
Wow, that's, unexpected.
Well deserved! Maggs is a master of sound!
