Title: The Big question about Alien V
Post by: andrew.deacon.946 on Mar 08, 2015, 12:13:47 AM
With all the talk about Alien V retconning A3 and AR and will Ripley, Hicks and Newt appearing surely the big question is will Jonsey the cat be in it?

Burke is back. He used his company charm to persuade the queen into letting him escape onto the dropship with an egg.

I really wondering if the nurse that wakes up Ripley will be in it. She was awesome. Also, Newt's brother's big wheel was tight in those deleted scenes. We need more W-Y Big Wheels.

What the hell people. What I wanna know is how the f**k that alien egg got onto the Sulaco during the movie ALIENS!... you can hear the facehuggers scurrying around in the end credits...  or are we retcon'n that too. :P

However you can count me in for the Return of Jonesy or perhaps his offspring. I mean those damn cats reproduce almost as fast as aliens do. Maybe the cat was the ultimate doomsday weapon all along? Lets face it, who survived the first movie? Was it the alien? No, it was the goddamn cat! :P

I watched the anthology recently and I don't remember hearing facehugger scuttling in the end credits, I was listening out for it too because I heard the rumor before.

As for Jonesy, he is long dead if the film is set 30 years later and I hope it is.

Yup on both accounts, the Anthology even suggests (At the menu) that the egg is inside the dropship's landing gear.

I guess that's the difference between David Fincher's A3 and Neill Blompkamp's A3 isn't it?

In one universe she checked, the other she didn't.

Again assuming the new film is a retcon.

I wish people would stop doing that until it's actually been confirmed as such. For one thing, Blomkamp's mentioned not wanting to undo the later films.

So we're to assume it's an inbetweequel? (Because it doesn't include Ripley 8 but it apparently includes Ellen Ripley.)

No thank you, that would be the death of the franchise for me- for now I'd rather assume it's a retcon.
Title: Re: The Big question about Alien V

When did I say that?

What I was getting at was it would be smart to assume nothing until we have official word on what it is.

Remember when everyone was saying Prometheus was definitely a direct prequel to Alien?

I doubt that wish is going to come true Hud, these people are winding themselves up about this new film, frankly its half amusing and half-well..sad, patience is a virtue, they need to exercise it until more info is given...kind of funny what Niell's comments and a few concept arts can do to the fanbase lol

How exactly do you propose we discuss Neill Blompkamp's Alien then?
Title: Re: The Big question about Alien V
Post by: HuDaFuK on Mar 09, 2015, 02:05:56 PM
There's nothing wrong with discussing it. There's been tons of great discussion about it on here.

But a lot of people are acting like it's definitely a retcon and it's definitely got Michael Biehn in it and it's definitely definitely definitely, when literally none of that has been confirmed. All I'm saying is, wouldn't it be best to hold off on acting like we definitely know what it is until we actually know for sure?
Title: Re: The Big question about Alien V
Post by: Son Of Kane on Mar 09, 2015, 02:07:29 PM
Fair enough, I just don't see how you could have Ellen in it and it be any good without it being a retcon- that's where I'm coming from.
Title: Re: The Big question about Alien V
Post by: HuDaFuK on Mar 09, 2015, 02:11:57 PM
I agree with you on that. I'm, just not going to put my faith in anything until either Blomkamp or the studio has announced what is going on officially. Because I kinda get the impression they might not be too sure themselves right now.

This.
Chill pill time everyone. get it here for free.

All we got is concept arts and a few words from the director and possible cast members, until more info is out, a summary or something, people should maybe hold of on the retcon or not front. There is plenty else we could discuss, the concept arts for example.

So we're to assume it's an inbetweequel?

Very unlikely, as he doesn't want to have anything to do with the previous sequels.

It might, however, be an 'equal'. A term coined during the successor to 'A Fish Called Wanda'; 'Fierce Creatures', meaning neither a sequel or prequel, but instead where the same characters are depicted doing alternative things.

If Blomkamp is retconning the series than technically Jones is still at Gateway Station above Earth eating and sleeping well. Will Ripley pick up her little animal friend again for Newt?

QuoteTobe Hooper's Lifeforce is mostly remembered for showing actress Mathilda May naked in almost every scene, but it's also a big, sloppy, wonderful clusterf**k of a film. The ending has bat-monsters turning London into a huge zombie riot of exploding buildings while May and the film's hero have hateful vampire sex inside a giant spaceship's tractor beam. Let's see Twilight top that.

God damnit why haven't I seen Lifeforce yet.

I really couldn't get into that when I tried.

It's one I've always wanted to see (not just because of the wall-to-wall boob-shots). For one the cast seems really good. But then Species had a great cast and kinda sucked.

Outlander's another one on that list I wanna watch. I've seen most of the others (including Leprechaun 4, I'm appalled to say...)

Life force was much better back in the 80's. :P

I don't really get how pitch black is that blatant a rip off and roots search is just awful.

I was kinda surprised Critters 4 didn't make the list, but I guess they already had a shitty-horror-series-goes-to-space-with-its-fourth-entry movie in there.

Then again, if Critters 4 had had a different, vaguely intimidating monster as its lead villain, I actually thought it would've been a half-decent low-budget movie. Plus, it's got Brad Dourif for an extra Alien bonus.

They made a fourth critters movie... oh man that also means they made a 3rd doesn't it. I only watched the first two... only watched the second one because of the critter-ball. :P

'Species' did not suck! Wasn't treated with the seriousness it should have been, but the first is still quite decent.

Not so much the sequels...

It wouldn't surprise me if it was remade before too long.

"Kinda" sucked were my exact words :P

Not a terrible film, no, but it felt like it should've been a lot better, given the talent involved. I do enjoy watching it, but the at the same time it's tinged with a sense of disappointment.

It wasn't awful. Wasn't that great, either.

I think that about sums it up. I went into that with such high hopes and was quite disappointed! Still watch it every now and again though. Never managed to finish the 2nd though.

Species looks no where as good today as it did when it first came out.... actually it may have been just another titty movie. I mean it was Natasha Henstridge's tits that got people in the theater, for the most part.

It was more the director who was responsible for that side of it. While the nudity did harm it, there was a lot of interesting stuff in there. Especially Forest Whitaker's character and how Sil's perspective on humanity was evolving. Even the seduction scenes had a nicely chilling predatory serial killer air about them.

I kind of put it in the same league as 'Event Horizon' and 'Virus' for that reason: Flawed, but entertainingly rewatchable.

That's a good evaluation of the film. I decided to watch it again and what we got on film has the ambiance of rehearsal runs. Like a B-roll tape that never got that A polish. I think that is where it suffers most.
