Seems like the last Neca figure made it into the game
So how did this happen? 'm genuinely curious because I wasn't expecting it. I guess Neca really did a Hunting Grounds promotion.
Now this is going to be really interesting what happens with it's introduction because the implication I at least got was that the Hish are very ancient and the game already uses Yaujta. I'm definitely going to be watching the lore closely on this one.
I see what they are going for but honestly not a fan of the design, armor, or weapons. Especially the mask. To me it is just not aesthetically pleasing to look at at all.

When Randy revealed the packaging for Alpha he did say there was some other "really cool news" her couldn't break about him, I'm assuming this is it. I'm glad its in game tbh.
I'd have to figure that since this was Predator related NECA probably caught wind of it and approached them. This basically confirms NECA has the license and we'll start seeing figures from the game, probably beginning with Dutch.

I don't think this means that previous Preds will be out of the question. I just don't like the armor design too much. But the elder albino look really sells it to me.
What I really don't want is any more NECA Pred figures in the game, they're not really good lookin in my book. Lot of them are too gimmicky and bizarre to be taken seriously like the spiky armored Pred and even the clan leader with weaponized dreadlocks (for cripes sake :-[ ) which obviously harkens back to Kenner's design being pushed for boy action figures.

As someone who really, really likes the look of the primitive, zero-tech Alpha Predator I can say for certain that I'll be buying this day one!!
Sure I was hoping for something like City Hunter to be the first DLC Predator, but frankly I never even figured that getting NECA preds in there was a possibility! This is totally out of left field and totally awesome!
I really hope this opens the floodgates for all sorts of non-movie Predators to make appearances in the game now. Broken Tusk, Ahab, Big Red, I'll take 'em all! :laugh:

Stick with me here. I know the 100th figure rigmarole with Neca doing concept and design, but the Predator: Hunting Grounds game trailer dropped in May 2019, which means it was likely in development roughly a year prior. With the Keyes recordings, and now Dutch's recordings, Stargazer developments, OWLF history, the entire human side component of Predator lore has been a huge focus for the Illfonic developers
BIG TIME... so why not think Illfonic would give that same love and attention to the Predator side of lore? So subsequently, 20th Century brings in Titan Books and Neca to come in and work with Illfonic, to partner up and flesh all this out, including having Neca develop the design of the very first Alpha Predator which would be used in game. So did Neca build, in essence, a Hunting Grounds character to be used in game?
I'm not arguing the probability of this scenario, but at this point I guess I wouldn't dismiss it.

I'm digging it. The variety is nice. It's a game, so I'm not really concerned about lore too much.

My friends and I were playing last night and we were killed by this Predator. I collect Predator figures soo I knew about this one being released I was just in shock because I didn't think it would be in the game!

You got free DLC - the Dutch's tapes. The weapons are also going to be free soon too. They're only early access.
I'm in love with that backstory, I think it's perfect. Canon or not, it's official part of my own fanon now. All of the tapes have also been great. Even though PHG isn't perfect, I love how much they and Neca respect the lore with great expansions. Another case of the EU doing a better job than the recent movie. This unexpected and combined effort from Neca and Ilfonic is getting me excited about predator again.

Xenomorphs are under a separate license. They only have access to whatever falls under the Predator license. Weapons like Lex's spear are presumed fair-game (it appears in The Predator) but an actual Xenomorph would require going through Fox and they likely spend enough time on approvals. The current image of the DLC roadmap also doesn't really account for this and they are presumed to have about a year planned out so I'd imagine they'd wantto hit all the major beats before going into a seperate property.
June we can presume may be the Alpha Predator since it recently got leaked and the Alpha Predator figure releases in June.
July would be the 10th anniversary of Predators and the Falcon was discovered in the files
This leaves August which AVP was released in and we know about the shuriken already.
I just wouldn't expect Xenomorphs outside maybe a line of dialogue referencing them or something like Lex's spear. At best it's going to be weapons and armor based on AVP.

The closest I would ever want to see Hunting Grounds get to Alien would be DLC maps set in the future with Colonial Marines (kind of like Predator Life and Death).
That's not even something I think the game "needs" to do or that I really want anyway, its standing just fine on its own two legs in in the setting we have.

Yeah, I love the crossover and all, but in my opinion, they should retcon all of it to make it so they haven't had their first proper meeting yet, I hate the idea that the xenomorphs are this common fodder creature in space, they should be rare and deadly like in the first 2 movies of the Franchise

Totally agree. This feels right as a predator game, evoking the original movie. Adding aliens would dilute the pure experience.

Lately I have been escaping and dying more or less at the same rate. Killing the Predator is kind of hard now, as it should, usually happens when it tries to rush during the wait for the chooper after its second wind is gone. Making the Predator run to heal during first encounters is not that hard.
Its rare to capture a Predator body now though. I think its better than it was on the free trial and first week, the fireteam killed the Predator in most matches I played.
I take issue with pointblank shotgun hitting him 20+ times and not even reacting to it. If you go by predator 2 ,about 6 rounds would knock one on its ass.
Still not happy with the mini gun either.
I Did notice dutches blade is capable of stunning the predator for a second.
The minigun does leave A LOT to be desired.
I think all knives stun the predator though if you hit him with a parry, or does Dutch's stun him for longer?
I never noticed the combat bowie knife stunning the predator at all. Just the dutch blade.
At this point I would welcome the predator hunter killer outfit at the end the predator for fire team members or predator in camo pants able to survive a predator attack and even defend itself.
Thought i was attacked by a predator with a Tusk mask like in predators. Happend too fast to tell.
I don't mind the Alpha Predator being a skin, I just hope they create more options for skins in addition to this. More armor and weapons options. Using an old flint lock pistol would be bad ass. Also, in regards to the playability right now, I think it's pretty good. I play only as a predator and If a fire team sticks together the predator is going to have a hell of a time winning. Also, I still wish they would nerf the reinforcements. It's soo damn quick. Also, the fact that fire teams can do this More than once is nuts!!
Aroo? The fire team can only reinforce once per match. But yeah with how quickly they can do it I don't even bother to try and stop them, I just use the notification to try and get into position to get attack them once they all get back in.

Damn, that sucks. I hadn't heard about that glitch. Hopefully they come up with a fix for that soon too. I know I'd be pretty annoyed if I'd almost wiped the fire team twice and then they reinforced again.
I've not once ran into that glitch as a fireteam member, so I wonder how widespread an issue it is.
Really like the backstory, a viceral bloody comic would be pretty cool.

Especially since US codes don't work on the EU Playstation store, so even if we were to import the figure from a US retailer the code wouldn't work.
Hopefully they'll either include EU codes for its release over here or better yet, just make him regular DLC. But by the sounds of it that's not going to be what they're doing, at least initially.
I bought the figure anyways, I was going to do so regardless of this.
We probably wouldn't be freaking out if this hadn't leaked around Dutch's release. Now we have a bunch of people hyped for it and expecting easy access and not knowing it's meant for a toy promotion instead of a traditional DLC.
This does leave out the free update though.

Anyone can get the mask! It's in the crates. But as far as I'm aware the class is still just from pre-order only.

Well, Hot Toys are pretty hot. I wish I'd gotten some of their Predators figures before the after market prices became insane.
And yeah I was always going to buy the Alpha Predator figure, though it's a tad unfortunate that it only seems like the code will be included in the initial NA release and nowhere else. But at least if it's just an early unlock essentially then everyone else can still pick it up later when it's released properly.
Plus now I've got the new Elder and later Samurai Predators to play with in the meantime, so that's not so bad!

Call me crazy, but if the Upgrade was added in a new game-mode, say two Predators versus the Upgrade, I wouldn't actually mind that!
The issue I see with the Upgrade (Assassin) is that outside of hit-boxes having to change they would need to alter animations or would need to be redone for him. He's just really big. He'd also need to have weapons altered since his gun is mounted on his arm so they can't reuse the firing animations. He's also too big to fit into most spaces players would be. Basically meaning Predator can't reach the fireteam and they can just wait him out which is already a problem with Backwater under one of the docks. Assassin also has the ability to make him mostly bullet proof. So aside from balancing that they'd either do it or leave his most notable feature on the cutting room floor as no current system would enable this unless it's on or off the whole match unless it's added as a gadget for him but it'd be development time on a feature only he can use or they'd add it for all Predators and we keep getting new models so it'd have to account for them to even if it's just a texture swap.
If anything is represented from The Predator I'm expecting Fugitive.
I do see that many people want a variation Predator vs bad blood Predator option. Perhaps the Super Predator Clan is a suitable choice, seeing as they aren't that big and complex like Upgrade, but bigger, really tough, and technologically advanced that give regular Preds a run for their money. Plus, the devs can give them the much needed lore expansion that was missing in Predators.
The Devs have been fixing the lore big time, and I love them for it!

Ran into the Alpha Predator last night. He destroyed is pretty quickly. He does look really cool.

I believe it's the same stats as the Hunter, but it still seems to come up as a class in the menu?

Just to correct my original assumption, the customizable mix & match is one sided. The Alpha Predator can wear all the masks from the other classes, adopt their skin textures and colors, adopt their dreads and dread sizes.... but once you switch to a different class, the only thing the scout/hunter/beserker can wear is the Amengi mask.

Just to correct my original assumption, the customizable mix & match is one sided. The Alpha Predator can wear all the masks from the other classes, adopt their skin textures and colors, adopt their dreads and dread sizes.... but once you switch to a different class, the only thing the scout/hunter/beserker can wear is the Amengi mask.
I think you can use the hair too
Really? The scout/hunter/berserker can use the Alpha dreads? I'll have to check that out!
