Title: Q&A with Rebellion
Post by: ikarop on Jun 28, 2009, 11:57:12 AM
Hey everyone, as I said before we have the opportunity to do a Q&A with Rebellion and we want to give the fan-base the chance to get involved and suggest questions.

Note that:

- We are free to ask "whatever" we want.
- As you know AvP is still being worked on.
- Some aspects of the game can't be answered yet so try to ask questions that can be answered.
- We may get general answers so avoid asking questions about things we have already seen.

Next Thursday we will pick about 15 questions so try your best to post smart questions and be participative.

1.How many SP campains are included?/ Is there more than three SP campains?/ Is there a possibility to play as Predalien?         2. Can you give us example of new marine weapon?

The only thing that really bothered me was that the Aliens were slow in the gameplay we've seen so far. So the only thing I'd like to know is if they'll change that (or at least make the playable Alien not that slow).

3. Is the dog-alien in game?/ Can you give us example of new (not yet seen) enemy?          4. We really do think that pred is decloaking to often in demos, is there a possibility to turn off decloaking after every attack or can you change it to be more film accurate?

Will the game be a completely linear experience?

Have the Alien's death explosions yet to be finalised?

Will this game feature multi-player?  Will co-op modes be available?

I'm a ridiculously huge fan of co-op games, it'd be great if AVP3 has it too.

Here are Mine:

-Will you release a Full SDK (Full kit with all necessary tools to create maps, skins, mods, models, source code, etc.) as you did with Aliens Vs. Predator (1999)?
It would be a nice feature and as you perhaps know, this will allow the community to stay alive not like many games nowadays which are empty because there is a lack of assistance and an inactive community.

-Will there be a Custom character maker such as you could build your own character (Select his face, body, armor, size, color, etc.)?

-Why did you choose to give 2 wristblades to the Predator? Isn't that a little childish? It remind some "dadada-land" design that you only see in Hollywood... you know when a guy is holding two gun, then he jump and he kill all his opponent.

This is mine:

Are you considering reviving the popular survivor multiplayer mode implemented in Monolith's AVP2, and/or brining any new unique modes?
Title: Re: Q&A with Rebellion

Please ask questions about the PC version! The previous AVP games have been PC exclusive, so they need to make superior PC exclusive features into AVP3 too.
So to put this into one question:

In the past few years, many PC versions of multiplatform games have been ported straight from the console versions, and that way lack the features that PC gamers really want. Will the new game have a PC version that has those features like modding tools, dedicated servers or having a server browser instead of matchmaking system?

I hope you really DO ask something about the PC version. It's been a recent trend to leave the PC community in the dark, when it comes to multiplatform games.
Another thing to ask is that will there be differences in graphical quality between the PC and the consoles.

1. Will the Alien be more into character with the movies and will it be a substantial threat up close?

2. What kinds of Predator influiences or behaviours will the PredAlien show?

3. Who will be doing the soundtrack?

If I had to choose one of them, I'd pick soundtrack. The first two will be asked a fair bit anyway.

1. Will acid blood destroy anything in the environment.

2. Do you have plans for DLC after the games release, or a expansion pack?

3. Is the game being designed for Console, and then ported to PC? Or vise-versa

4. Is there going to be lifecycle, and how will this be implanted?

5. Is there going to be water in any of the maps, and will Aliens be able to swim like in Alien: Resurrection?

6. Will their be a mode like GOW2's "Horde" mode, or L4D's Survivor mode. With Marines facing off against endless waves of Aliens

7. Will there be any Quick Time Events?

8. Is there a way to escape the Predators trophy kill?

9. Are they any plans for a demo?

The focus jump looks awesome, but will the Predator be able to jump just to get out of the way quickly? Will the Predator also lose the mask when receiving damage like in the PC version AVP 2. Also, will there be customization in the multi/co-op player modes?

2 - Is there going to be a way to view the trophies of some of the stronger enemies later (like a trophy wall?)
3 - Is there going to be anyway of customization of your characters in SP or MP?
4 - Will DLC be planned? If so how regularly can we expectnew additions?

Here are my top 5 questions:

1.) Will the alien be able to wield acidic blood as a ligitiment weapon ( i.e. toss it towards someone )

2.) Can the aliens climb on ceilings and everything?

3.) Does the game allow you to play underwater missions ( levels under water. )

4.) Do all the storylines take place at the same time

5.) Does the Predator have his combistick?

thanks very much for allowing me to submit these in the questions forum , thanks.

This.

Just how far is rebellion planning to take their influences from bad movies? Didn't they say that they did not like the AVP movies and were going to stay away from them? Or were those false promises or something made up by fans? So why pyramids? why predators weapons only seen from AVPR? Why not just stick with stuff from the original franchises or make up your own?

Q1: Will there be life cycle in MP? If yes then make more hiding places.
Q2: Will there be an Exosuit like in AVP2 (PC)? Would be cool if yes.
Q3: Will there be more clasic Predator weapons? (Disck, Netgun)
Q4: How many Alien types there will be and will there be any new ones?
Q5: What are the new abilities of the Aliens?
Q6: Will there be available maps in MP locations from the clasic movies? (Nostromo, Hadley's Hope, Furine 116, Verloc, AvP Pyramid, Jungle)
Q7: Will the MP maps have more functions. (like closing doors or turning on/off lights. More destructible enviornment)
Q8: Will Space Jockeys appear in SP or anything of their technology?

I have a few.

Will this game take an unbiased approach to the characters and portray both the alien and the predator positively?

Will the single player campaigns be independent like in Aliens vs. Predator or will they directly effect one another like in Aliens vs. Predator 2?

All the previous AvP games had only online multiplayer. Considering this game will be on consols, will there be a split screen multiplayer?

Q2. Would a multiplatform MP experiance be possible? (pc,ps3,360 players going against each other)

Will the predator actually decloak whenever he takes damage or uses any weapon, even meele weapons?  It looked like it in the demo, and that, in my opinion, is not a good idea.

Will the marine, and especially alien and predator, each have proper sound effects from the original movies (i.e. vocal sounds for alien and predator as well as weapons for the predator and marine)?

Playing as the predator, will it be possible to decide which target to lock onto for tracking weapons rather than have the game choose for us?  I.e. lock onto the target in the middle of a group of marines rather than having the game autolock on the nearest one.

Can we get rid of homing plasma bolts and simply have the shoulder cannon lead its target and make the plasma bolt move faster like in AvP1?

Will it be possible to shoot limbs off of the marines and predators as well as the aliens, which we've seen already?  Can this carry over to multiplayer?

Will most of the scares be scripted or unscripted?

Will the disc from Predator 2 (And both previous AVP games) be in the game?

Will there be any form of ranking system in the online components of the game?

Is a modding toolset planned to be added for the PC version of the game?

Will all the alien variants from your previous AVP game be in AVP 3? Will there be any new aliens added?

1. Will the Aliens retain their Pounce attack from AVP2? That gave them much needed help in getting in close to their opponents who could easily blast them from a distance.

2. AVP 99 had a great online ranking system on Mplayer. Will this game have it too? It was a very fun system and was dearly missed in AVP2.

3. Will there be any new weapons besides the ones that we have already seen in the previous AVP games?

4. Will there be some kind of Capture the Flag mode?

5. Will there be vehicles? Like the APC, Power Loader, etc?

Thanks!

Title: Re: Q&A with Rebellion
Post by: alpha defekt on Jun 28, 2009, 06:39:54 PM
To be blunt, I wasn't a huge fan of AVP2 multiplayer. Which I know you guys weren't the ones who made that game. However, I'm a huge fan of the AVP1 multiplayer. Which leads to question one

1) Will multiplayer be more like AVP or AVP2? I felt AVP had a little more balance compared to AVP2.

2) Will the Alien still have it's speed quality in multiplayer? I wouldn't mind at least a little boost in speed, however....sneaking in shadows for stealth kills would be most awesome. Along with that is the Alien still going to have the awesome crouch jump? Or the stupid pounce from AVP2?

3) Customizing your character? Not too many games have this feature sadly... aside from RainbowSix Vegas (which had a great one) and Halo 3 slightly had one...  I'm looking more along the lines of RSV. Having a Predator biohelmet option, plus the ability to put markings such as paint, blood, battle scars, symbols, trinkets and the such would be incredible. Same for the Marines. They are known to have decals on their armor in the films, why not in the game?

4) Your 1999 AVP had co-op skirmish levels. (ie Horde, Survival mode) Any plans on a return to that? I'd love to have a team of Marines to play with online against an onslaught of Aliens!

5) Aliens tail whip. Does it do crazy damage like in AVP or did you take note from AVP2 with it stunning people? I wasn't fond of the AVP2 one.

6) Clan support? What would a Predator team be without a "Clan"  Aliens without a "Hive" or Marines without a "Squad"

7) Will other Alien creatures be playable in multiplayer? I didn't feel the need for a Predalien or "Runner" in AVP2. It took the little balance away the game already had with the 1999 version. However, if fans want it.... give'em what they want.

8 ) Taunting. Some may think this is stupid, but I loved taunting in AVP. However, those were the days without mics. lol So a quick taunt went a long ways.

This is mine:

Are you considering reviving the popular survivor multiplayer mode implemented in Monolith's AVP2, and/or bringing any new unique modes?
would be interesting if evac might be brought back as well  :-[

2. Will equipment selection, perhaps in a 'Call of Duty 4' style class system, be available for any of the races; will we simply see a basic class system like that in AVP2, or will weapons spawn at set locations on the map?

3. What differences will we see between the Xbox/PS3 version and the PC version; is there any possibility of a 'map editor' shipping with the console versions to complement the PC's expected modding potential?

1) When can we expect some in-game screenshots or gameplay videos from Marine and Alien perspective?

2) So far all weapons are from AVP:R movie. Care to elaborate that?

3) We've seen from playing as Predator that in the jungle are some spawning holes for aliens from which they are coming. Are they going to be in every level? Don't you thik that this kills atmosphere?

4) Levels seems to be very linear, more like tunnel-linear, what are you planning to do with this problem?

5) Is Predators HUD seen in gameplay finalized? Is it customizable?

6) Why is shoulder cannon locking on enemies in regular vision?

7) Will there by playable alien life cycle in campaign?

8) Being that only three races are fighting, what are you trying to with the variation of enemies problem? Will you have some neutral enemies, or just aliens, predators and marines, and how will that incorporate in repetitiveness of the game?

1. Will the Alien headbite animation be like AvP2's in which the head would (rediculously) explode, or will it be like in the Alien film where as it would quickly go in the head, and then quickly out?

2. I something I loved about the first Alien film was not knowing where the Alien would strike from, or where it is- online in games, I like to be stealth and scare people. I really want to be alble to play it like I am the Alien (stalker version) from the first film, and jump out from being motionless, take my opponent out, and then quickly be gone as fast as it happened, scaring the hell out of the other marines.

3. Will the motion tracker sound be faithful to the Aliens film? Because for me, that is my favourite device used for suspense ever; pure genius.

P.S.- If chosen, you should re-write #2 to fit a wider audience

1. Will a single Xenomorph be able to take down a Predator.
2. Will there be separate Xenomorph castes for Multi-Player such as Scout, Warrior, Worker, Runner, Praetorian, etc.
3. Will weapons and characters be customizable for ALL species in Multi-Player.
4. Will the Predator Wrist Bomb/Nuke be usable.
5. Will we get "Must have" modes like Survivor, Evac and Skirmish.

Will there be an invasion/survival gamemode for multiplayer where a number of players defend of waves of aliens controlled by AI?

Much like CoD5's nazi zombies or Left 4 Deads survival mode.

Guys, they are not going to tell us anything about the Aliens or Multiplayer except for maybe how the AI works and their speed. Ask more Marine questions, and we already know that Aliens can walk on all surfaces and that the campaigns take place at the same time and that there are 3 campaigns.

-Approximately how many Alien castes will we see in game?
-About how many weapons are unnanounced for Predators and Marines and can examples be given?
-Can the player himself place sentries as a Marine?
-Is it possible to allow the Pred to stay cloaked while doing certain activities that have thus far uncloaked him? (Ie: Trophy kills, Attacking etc.)
-Will there be Female Predators?
-Will we see the Alien Queen?

Will the marine have any sort of special gagets or weapons to counter the predator or alien? Perhaps turning the net gun against them lol.

In the marine campaign will there be important characters? Will the narrative be like a debriefing of the situation at hand? How is it going to play out?

The same can be said for predator and alien. What is the narrative structure behind them?

Will easter eggs be included?

Also this special female scene mentioned in a interview. Any hint as to what..it is? Will we know right away?

We know that there was a mining colony. We know that shortly after they discovered the temple, aliens raped all their faces. We know that they then sent in the Colonial Marines as a rescue party. We know the predator shows up shortly after.
Where do you see time for CLONING.

OH! OH! OH! AND GUESS WHAT!!!

They weren't SUCCESSFUL until TWO HUNDRED YEARS AFTER ALIEN 3!!!

This takes place THIRTY years after alien 3.

Here's my view, not that anybody really cares.

The "newborn" was the worst thing to happen to the Alien franchise. Full stop. It was possibly the lamest thing I have ever seen in a film (although the "pred-alien" in AvP:R might have to steal that particular medal), and a textbook example of the "was once a good film but now is so screwed up I think I'm going to puke" effect. It wasn't frightening, it wasn't creepy, or cool, it was freaking hilariously bad, and I think it would turn this game from an action/horror game into a freaking comedy.  If you want variety, do something besides that. Variety should not be a substitute for a good game. In my opinion.

Keep in mind, they originally wanted the Newborn to have a penis and a vagina. But they were told they had to digitally edit it out of the film. The Newborn is FAR from "cool."

Sorry, I could only come up with one Marine-specific question, but hey, at least there's no Alien-specific ones. ;)

-Which vision modes will the Marine have this time around, and how do they compare with the previous games. Also, is the shoulderlamp in, and how will it function? (the very limited battery supply system from AvP2 has been much-criticised)

-Will more trophy-kill animations be added before the game's release, for the sake of variety?

-I'd very much like an explanation of how the Predator's energy system works now, particularly as it's been confirmed that the cloaking device uses a seperate system. Is there a time limit to how long you can stay cloaked, and what system is in place to discourage the player from just hitting the cloak button again the instant they're decloaked? Also, are there any weapons or actions which don't disrupt the cloak (we already know focus-jumping)?

-Finally, and most importantly: will the AI spawn at random locations and times, and will they be able to track the player throughout the map. Basically I'm asking if they'll be using AvP1's brilliant system (as opposed to the more conventional, infinitely more boring and less replayable scripted method used by AvP2 and most other games).

Also, guys, can we please keep this on topic? It's going to be hard for the mods to trawl through the thread for questions if it keeps going off on odd tangents.

They've already said they are adding more trophy kills.

They've already said the AI will be unscripted, dynamic, and it things won't happen the same way every time

And they've said that you can stay cloaked, but how visible you are depends on your motion. The faster you're moving the easy you are to see. And (from the videos) basically attacking anything uncloaks you.

They did the same thing for the avp:r psp title

-Will Marines feature any weapons or abilities they didn't have in previous games? (This could apply to Predator as well)

-Will the game be able to match the previously released screenshots? Like, are those goal setters? (Although the graphics are amazing now, they haven't quite reached that level)

-If a Marine is about to be facehugged (If they're here) would there be a way to counter the little guy, or is facehugging (If done right) instant?

-Will the temple in the game shift like the temple in the movie?

Like it or not, it's part of the Alien franchise.  And the way I see it, it's an unnatural abomination created by an experiment gone wrong.  I would love to see it in a game, that way haters could take out their anger on the Newborn for even existing.  Would be cool if it were in multiplayer or as a hidden part of a level, giving you an unlockable achievement or something.

Speaking of questions:

What kind of unlockable achievements are there?
Will there be hidden stuff to find in the game and of what kind?
We saw the ambience of the jungle in the demo, what kind of atmosphere will there be for the remainder of the game, and in particular the different species?
Will you have the option to customise your character and if so in what way?
How many different environments are there and are they directly based off the films?
Can you tell us anything about the alien gameplay?
Will there be much in-game music?  And what kind of music will it be?
Will there be any hidden references to the films, IE little easter eggs for the fans?

and another question of intrest will the space jockeys some how play into the story or will they remain mysterious as always.

one last thing if the space jockeys do play into the story is it possible that the artifact from avp2 primal hunt will be featured or some other object that  is coveted by the seperate species.

AVP 3 Questions:

1. Will there be different kinds of marines, Predators and Aliens to choose from for Campaign and Multiplayer, instead of one? Different characters/designs?
2. Will there be any kind of customization options/create a character options?
3. Will the user be able to use the Predator combi-stick/spear, smart-disc, shuriken, net-gun, etc? What about the laser-mines from AVP: Requiem? Are there any new Predator weapons being introduced? Predator guns or swords, for example? Can the Predator gain two-shoulder cannons and pick up any other weapons off a dead Predator body?
4. As the Predator, will the user be able to hang bodies? Maybe, for a possible achievement?
5. As the Predator, can the user collect trophies from other creatures, instead of marines and Aliens?
6. As the Predator, will water effect the cloaking ability?
7. As the marine, is it possible to be unarmed and sneak past Predators, without being detected as a threat?
8. If a Predator bleeds, will there be a trail of blood?
9. Is it possbile to remove the helmet, from the Predator?
10. What finishing moves do the Aliens have? Can they impale their enemies through the head with their tongues, as well as stabbing with their tails?
11. Can you please tell us how face-hugging works, as well as chest-bursting, in the game?
12. Are the Aliens afraid of fire?
13. We notice the PredAlien takes heads/spinal-cords, like the Predator, is that going to stay in the game?
14. What can you tell us about multiplayer modes? Will there be a "Horde" mode? What about co-op?
15. Any chance we will see the Alien and Predator homeworld in the game?
16. Any chance of seeing a Space Jockey? =)
17. What can you tell us about the multiplayer maps? How many are you planning?
18. How do you think the marine campaign will differ than "Colonial Marines"?
19. Alien Queen?
20. Is it possible to capture and coccoon enemies, as an Alien?
21. Can the Aliens run on ceilings and strike, either fast or slowly, from above?
22. What can you tell us about the speeds of the Aliens? Can they run really fast like in Alien 3, or are they more slow?
23. Do you have alot of downloadable content planned?
24. Are you going to tie-in anything from "Predators" and the Alien prequel, in some way?
25. Will it be possible to play as the PredAlien in Campaign or Multiplayer?
26. As the Alien, will there be swimming situations?
27. In co-op, how many players can play and is it possible to play as a squad of marines, a Predator hunting party and an Alien horde? Is there online co-op?
28. As the Predator, can the user self-destruct in Campaign and in Multiplayer?

Thank you in taking the time in allowing us to ask questions and having them answer for us. This is soo awesome. I can't wait for this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did mention in a recent preview that Weyland-Yutani was conducting experiments on Aliens to keep them under control. So a Newborn style Alien could be plausible.

And on that subject....How will these experiments play into the game? Will we haveAliens fighting WY controlled Aliens?

Thank you in taking the time in allowing us to ask questions and having them answer for us. This is soo awesome. I can't wait for this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
instead of different designs why dont you just desingn your own i hope thats what they do

I have only 2 questions:

1) Will the predator decloak after using every attack? If so thats a mistake, its never been that way at least in the movies, the only time it decloaked was using a speargun from avp1 if I recall.

2) Will there be a multiplayer mode where 2 different species can be on the same team, such as a predator and an alien, and alien and a marine, and so on.

If they don't release a SDK, the game will die within a year.
Like FEAR 2 project Origin.
SDK is most important to keep the game community alive (new maps, mods, skins, etc.)

Not only was it was a freak accident that happened, it was a freak incident that shouldn't have happened. Scientists had (presumably) Ripley's blood and I'll be damned if I know how they produced mutants they did. When you have a tapeworm it will NOT nest itself into your DNA and an alien emrio should be no different.

But it will also lose them a lot of sales. Although I was a big fan of FEAR 1, I did'nt buy FEAR 2 because i knew the multiplayer will disappear in a couple months. I'm sure there are many people like me.
FEAR 2 is exactly the type of game that people will pirate for single player, and none of them will feel bad for missing the multiplayer part while doing that.

when an alien embryo is inplanted in a host it assimalats the host dna during gestation(hence the dog alien) the reason the queen in alien ressurection was more human was do to the cloning pocees on of its host(and its self) all weyland yutani or any one else would have to do to create a newborn  is clone a human host of a queen embryo(well the embryo is still inside)so it could be in avp3

Compareing Alien to tape worm is simplification and not adiquate at all. Tape worm just lives in hosts intestines. Not taking any of it's characteristics and not joining with it's blood system etc.                As i showned earlier there are losts of ideas to involve Newborn like creatures in game. And what's the big deal? You don't like it? Now you'd have the ability to shoot it and watchit die.

Scientists had (presumably) Ripley's blood and I'll be damned if I know how they produced mutants they did. When you have a tapeworm it will NOT nest itself into your DNA and an alien emrio should be no different.

also another good point. so you are agreeing that it will not be in avp 3?

when an alien embryo is inplanted in a host it assimalats the host dna during gestation(hence the dog alien) the reason the queen in alien ressurection was more human was do to the cloning pocees on of its host(and its self) all weyland yutani or any one else would have to do to create a newborn  is clone a human host of a queen embryo(well the embryo is still inside)so it could be in avp3

you make a good point my friend but i just dont think it will be in avp3 coz the story has nothing to do with the humans trying to make a new born or some sort of mutant and it was just a one off freak incident that only happened because ripleys clone

If they don't release a SDK, the game will die within a year.
Like FEAR 2 project Origin.
SDK is most important to keep the game community alive (new maps, mods, skins, etc.)
Without it... adios amigos!

If you already have their money in the back, no reason to care about community anything.

Odd..since they have stated they plan on releasing a lot of stuff like DLC and such...odd. Never seen a mention of a source development kit..but..who knows.

They have said there won't be no SDK, server files or anti-cheating mechanisms.
And as far as I know, both DLC's were just some new maps.

Tey could throw in more weapons, modes, vehicles (if included) or types of enemies. Heck they could expand the single player. Its up to them what they want to do.

Of course, they can do what they want. But you can release DLC for only so long. Releasing an SDK means new content for years to come. I very much doubt they will release any DLC in 2011, 2010 if your lucky.
I just hope AvP 3 doesnt go down that road.

Well some games continue to get DLC support. If the game has a good install base then sure its going to get supported for years to come. Im surprised at how much Burnout PAradise has been supported since launch..its crazy.

I guess it would be best if we got both SDK and DLC.  ;)
However if they had to choose between the two, SDK is a better decision in my opinion.
Then its either spending a month doing one DLC and be done with it, or spend that time making the SDK and after that members of the community will spend their time doing many months worth of work.  :)

Will the jumping for the predator change?

Its annoying how you have to aim everywhere to jump. All my friends agreed on that too.
you can do regular jumps. didnt look very high but it can be done.

Yeah, but it's stupid how you have to aim whenever you want to travel to long distances. I would like to jump very high without having to freakin aim with some kind of cursor.
It would be cool if we could either do it that way or manually.

On the convo of the Newborn, it couldn't be in the game because USM doesn't exist, hence the Newborn and human/Alien DNA mixing isn't even a thought for Weyland Yutani considering that they can't even catch an Alien. 4.Will there be remote guns?

5.Will there be charter customization?

1: Pulse rifles carry ammunition which is designed to rip through personal armour and explode from the inside. Considering this, why haven't we seen Predators and humans being ripped apart by such hits, in the same way naturally-armoured Aliens are? Predators are fairly exposed, yet seem to be walking around like Robocop.

2: Are handgun shots going to ricochet away from Alien armour, as shown in 'Aliens'?

3: Considering 'Alien' and 'Alien 3' proved Aliens can withstand the extremely high temperatures of both plasma and molten lead, are flamethrowers going to be able to affect the adults, as well as the more vulnerable chestbursters/facehuggers?

4: If the Predator is decloaking every time it attacks, how are players going to be able to recreate moments from the original films, when it only decloaked by choice or after being soaked in water? Aliens see them, anyway and Marines have motion trackers/smartguns.

5: Will the Colonial Marines have a proper Terminator-like Infra-Red sight or will it simply bathe everything in night vision, again (and will the battery last more than just a few seconds, this time)?

6: Will enemies spawn randomly to keep replays fresh?

7: Will the excellent 'John Woo' cheat mode, from the first game (true implemented bullet time before 'Max Payne'!) return for the Alien, where time slowed down when enemies were near? Many have observed this would be an excellent way of immersing the user in how lightning-fast an Alien's reflex time is, if standard.

8: Will the Predator's zoom mode be in quick 'snapshots', as in the films or slow and mechanical, like in the previous games?

9: Why do Predators have crude 'explosive' grenades, rather than advanced 'laser traps', as per the recent film?

10: Will there be a forum set up for fan feedback, as Gearbox have, so as to test the response of certain decisions and ask for ideas of how to improve what's already known?

11: Will Aliens be given their true towering height or are the model sizes final?

Quote from: Darkness on Jun 28, 2009, 03:16:17 PM
Did you have any contact with the Strauses about this game? Why are there similarities between AvP3 and AvP Requiem? Like the Ship design and the Predalien spine-ripping that person.

We know from Colin that they had contact, just not the extent of it, but I think that answers those other few questions. :)

Quick question, will the AI react to what the player does? For example, say a marine player uses the flamethrower, will the alien recoil from fire, or just rush you whilst still burning as seen in both previous AVP games?
Title: Re: Q&A with Rebellion

Here are some marine based questions.

Will the motion tracker have the quick pace of the film, or the slower pace of the previous games?

Will the weapon designs be 100% from the films, or will there be slight modifications like the minigun in the previous game?

Will the player be able to use vehicles like the power loader whenever one is available as opposed to being barred until a level calls for it?

Will there be "acid spit" for the aliens?

Can an Alien break though walls and steel doors to get to "camping" players?

How long will the alien's tail be for striking purposes (close range or medium range) because in some of the movies the alien tails can be extremely long.

Will the alien tail be a damaging weapon that can kill or a poisonous weapon like in avp2?

Will you be able to play as queen or become queen after certain amount of kills or no queen at all?

Will there be alien life cycle?

How damaging is the alien blood?

Will predalien be able to impregnate humans or any other species?
Will head bite (second mouth) only be used if cross hair is over opponents face like in AVP2? Honestly that really sucks if it is because you can use it to impale other body parts.
Can you care opponents and bring them to a hive?
Will the marines be able to drive vehicles (tank, jeep)?

Will you be able to play as a synthetic android?

Will there be exo suit?

What weapons will the marines have?

Will there be two types of human spices to play as (marines and corporate) like in avp2?

What weapons does the predator have?

Will there be a light and heavy predator class that has more and less health like avp2?

Will plasma caster (shoulder gun) fallow opponents like a heat seeking missile (in avp2) or just lock on to an opponent and not move once it has been fired (like in all the movies).
I also want to know what the health system looks like between the three species.

An example that I would like to see would be:
Alien Runner = 2 bars of health
Human = 3 bars of health
Drone = 4 bars of health
Predator = 5 bars of heath
Predalien = 7 bars of health
Queen = 15 bars of health

-Is there a dynamic weather, and night and day system?

-Are players able to pick up items (Like in HL2) for example a flare

-Will there be cosmetic damage dealt to players (Scars, bullet wounds, etc)

-How will you be implanting the damage system? (Like AVP2 or maybe in more depth like limping, impaired vision, etc)

-How will the multiplayer work? (Is it like halo3, cod4, tf2, or just generic like AVP2)

-Will you allow for clans and a ranking system for multiplayer?

-Map Editor?

-Around how many multiplayer maps can we expect upon release?

-Will AVP3 be optimized for dual, quad, etc core CPU's? (Also for SLI/CF?)

-Will the single player campaign just have dynamic enimies spawn, or are you going to add in random events?

-will you be able to Customize/upgrade your character during multiplayer (Like in cod and Rb6V)

-Ironsights?

-Will dismemberment be dynamic?

-Melee weapons? (Axe, pipe, torch, etc)

-Handheld grenades?

-Will there be a variety of ammo for each firearm? (FMJ, AP, HP, HE, etc)

For example if they meet some about a meter tall box are they going to

After you kill someone, do there body's disappear or stay there till you finish the level?

2. Are there any aspects of the game that are influenced by the avp movies? I honestly do not see what everyone has against them, someone tell me whats wrong them!

I don't mind new ideas but there should at least be some logic in them. Alien DNA hacking has no logic whatsoever to begin with and the making of Alien queen out of Ripley's blood even less so. Which makes Newborn a logical abomination.

5. Doesn't stay true to the original movies at all
6. The stupid common thought that aliens are cannon fodder and Predators are walking tank gods.

One simple question to start with: Have you ever seen Alien films? Even one of them? Cause seriously taking characteristics from host was in very first Alien. Check even in Starbeast. Our organism have such thing as immune system that serves as natural defense mechanism against any other things that gets into it ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immune_system ). Alien embryo would be killed quickly by this system so in order to prevent it and give new xeno a birth, it alters the DNA so immune system thinks about embryo as if it was natural part of human organism. Simple isn`t it.

Are you actually reading my posts or just assuming that you know what I have written?

In my first post that you disliked I wrote that ok, Aliens do take and integrate human DNA. A human host does NOT however integrate ALIEN carrier of information, which is most likely not even DNA to begin with. So how did anyone produce a queen out of Ripley's blood remains beyond me.

I know what you mean, and I've had this exact same argument on this very forum before, but ultimately there's no really scientifically satisfying answer to that problem.  The idea is the alien embryo somehow manages to change the human DNA (a concept which baffles me and seems so have so no scientific foundation, but then neither does much of the science fiction or horror genres) to somehow contain the alien embryo.  A DNA sample of Ripley was taken from the prison colony and as a result contains both human and alien DNA.

I agree it makes no sense and if you think about it long enough much of the entire alien concept makes no sense, but I'm afraid you just have to live with it, that's what they've simply decided to do. If you think it through, it's the only possible concept that could result in not only aliens re-appearing for (yet another) sequel to the franchise but also Ripley appearing for (yet another) sequel to the franchise.  It's not a nice explanation but it's the only one that anybody could feasibly pull off.

Okay i got a few more questions so here it goes.

If your playing as a marine are predator and u lose a limb(namely an arm)will their be any way to seal the wound and keep on fighting.

Will their be more then one clan of predators.

Will the motion tracker be a part of the hud or will u have to lower your weapon and switch to it like in the movies, and if its part of the hud will it be the regular one or the 360 from avp2 primal hunt.

If your a predator and a facehugger latchs on to your mask could u rip it off and use it as a weapon.Like throw it at a marine so it latchs onto his face.

Will any native wildlife appear.

Will the marines you fight with have their own personalities and be unique chacters or will they just be people who your charcter just meant on the field that very moment and die in the next 5 minutes.

Will their be any a.i. units in multiplayer.

Okay im good, hay can we keep on track and stop argueing about the newborn i was the first to ask about it and it was an honest question alright.so u guys are argueing when we should be asking questions.

People here really need to start and write in proper sentences with capital letters and punctuation. Your questions aren't going to get chosen if we can't read them. It's like a minefield reading some of these replies.

I just flat out ignore the questions that are written poorly.

Though, in addition to your point about picking questions, I think members should be aware that the forum has a fairly strict policy when it comes to spelling and grammar; habitual offenders run the risk of being banned.

1.When was the development of AVP (3) officially started?

I can kinda answer that. They've been in full production for over a year, but the project was first prototyped a while before that, I don't know the exact details but AVP's quite a long development compared to what rebellion usually does.

Okay kool. So its basically been in devlopment for probably 18 months to 2 years? Anyways..you like my other questions? I think the one about the engine is nice..I haven't seen anyone else mention that..

With the Colonial Marine campaign being described as "survival horror" what can we expect in the way of weapons and ammo (ie: how many weapons will we be able to carry at once, and how avaliable will ammo be)?

Will the player be forced to make decisions along the lines of trading a better weapon with low ammo for a lesser weapon with more ammo?

*humps Xenoporphine's leg*

Might wanna add exactly how far off off canon they want to go to meet marketing and aesthetic goals.

QuoteA human host does NOT however integrate ALIEN carrier of information, which is most likely not even DNA to begin with. So how did anyone produce a queen out of Ripley's blood remains beyond me.

there's no evidence either way, and yes that's most people chuck A:R out the window right away... but again there's no evidence Aliens have or modify, DNA in any form. All you have to be able to do is replicate in some fashion, a trait. We know they do that... biut it doesn't REQUIRE DNA... and they may simply scan it against a baseline and nothing else. No other interaction.

Quote6: Will enemies spawn randomly to keep replays fresh?

That would be a yes.

Quote"Where they come from is randomized" he noted, before trying again.

I am sorry to say this but I hope Rebellion focuses more time and effort on the console versions than the PC versions. I'm not saying this because I am some console only gamer. In fact I used to be a dedicated AVP2 fan. My reasoning behind this is because A) this game will probably have a lot of system requirements that go along  with this game so the cheapest computer that could play the game would probably run you $600 where as an Xbox360 is $199 new and a PS3 is $399 new. So actually more people would get the chance to enjoy AVP if Rebellion focused more on consoles for their target audience. B) Did anyone notice how many commands there are for the predator in the demos? There are so many commands (and you can view them all at http://www.aliensvspredator.net/game-features/) that it would be really hard to play this game on a keyboard. Each and every command has a different button that corresponds to the commands so there are 9 different commands (including grapple, aerial pin, counter and more) not including your basic movement or crosshair. Don't think of this game as Call of Duty 4 (all you need in right and left mouse buttons) but more like tomb radar with all of those commands. Only a controller will make these commands easy and simple to activate and use because four buttons aren't being taken up by buttons and consoles controllers have four buttons located on the sides of the controller (R and L trigger) which makes it easy for players instead of stretching your fingers across your keyboard to push a button without leaving your four button movement commands. Also consoles have rumble which is also very attractive. C) If you really are crazy and have to have a key board to play this game or else you're going to though a fizzy but you don't have a really good computer like me than why not go and buy yourself a Xbox360 and a keyboard for the xbox360. They do sell them and also with a mouse so you can still have the exact same experience as you would with playing at your computer but it's a lot cheaper. Plus you get a free headset instead of having to buy one for your computer. Even if you think that your computer will be able to play this game it still has a year before the game is finalized. So the requirements could change and be drastically different. (Something tells me this game is going to need a lot of RAM). Anyways, this is a fallow computer game just giving some reasons for why I think I'm going to by this game for xbox360.

Also my question would be if Rebellion is in fact planning on console gamers to be there primary target audience or not?

mate thats like saying WOW should be played on consoles since you have so many buttons that you could press. And I am sure some of the commands will be a combination of buttons, like aerial pin could be jump+grapple, etc. Also you could still play the game through using left and right buttons for the majority of the game. ::)

But I have a feeling your right that rebellion's primary market is consoles  >:(

Title: Re: Q&A with Rebellion

hi guys this is my first post, so be easy on me  :)

Given the demonstration hosted at E3, the nature of Predator gameplay was a lot different from the previous games as it provides the player the opportunity to be a predator by stalking, leaping from places to places and plan before striking with ruthless efficiency. What sorts of steps are taken in the alien's gameplay direction to make them more xenomorph then your average FPS?

In terms of mulitplayer gameplay, there were many balance issues that avid aliens and predator players were not satisfied with in avp2. Usually these came in slow moving aliens and predators, marine being faster then most when walking backward, inability to quickly rip up a meat bag in hand to hand, staggering fire, names showing up when a somebody put their crosshair on them and yeah the sniper rifle that acts more like a semi automatic one shot death. Then there were also some of the predator's plasma weapons that turn most people off. While many players learn to cope, it does not make for satisfying gameplay. Will the previous games be taken into consideration when making the multiplayer?

Whereas marines have their personalised armour very much like in the movies, will predators also have their own distinctive set of mask and armour as well? Also speaking of that, can players also customised theirs in multiplayer. Its cool if I can personalised my marine armour, predator mask and choice of alien heads but there was also possibly the chance of raising controversal issues much like what happaned in DOW I (usually people rolling around with nazi flags etc), unless players are provided with a set patterns they can choose from.

The soundscore for the first avp1 was amazing, will the soundtrack of avp3 take a similar direction?

QuoteNext Thursday we will pick about 15 questions so try your best to post smart questions and be participative.

15 questions is just tentative . It won't be terribly short since we'll try to reflect most of the questions in some way, prolly 15++

Also we aren't posting it since It's better to keep it as surprise till they answer and you have all the questions here already.

The answer process will start on Monday next week. Also take in mind this is just the very 1st Q&A.

in the E3 showing of the game it looked like it was almost entirely built for wide screen how will the game translation over a standard screen...will it have the large black bars on the top and bottom of the screen or will the predators arms be only partly visible on a standard screen

Are you going to pikc questions more about the games story and design..or about the development process?

Idk yet It doesn't depend on my opinion only,  the main idea is trying to reflect a bit of everything from everyone.

1. would like to know if there are taunts in the game and if they are important for multiplayer as well as single.

2. Will there be a diverse set of missions that make the experience more intricate?
From the looks of the footage it looks to be a set of skirmish battles.

3. Describe the predators if there are more than one and will we be able to play as them.

4. Will there be easter eggs? Predator Ship(nevermind-saw it in the demo)? Jockey ship?

5.What kind of strategies could you use in the jungle areas. I like the idea of jungle from one branch to the next, but it has its limitations and strategic value. Are there rivers? Muddy areas where humans cannot be detected with the heat vision?

6. Will we be able to import custom models or textures with a Dev kit.

7. Heavier aliens like in Alien Res? Slower, jumps from wall to wall.

3. Describe the predators if there are more than one and will we be able to play as them.

In the story there is 3 (that we know of) 2 rookies are in the area and go down to try to sort it out. When contact is lost with them a elite pred is sent down to clean up their mess. Ultimately we see what happens to at least one of them...

Yea i deffinatley want to be able to customize every little feature for your marine/pred/xeno. Just like in Rainbow Six. I actually made my guy in Rainbow Six Vegas look just like a Colonial Marine and he was equiped with a L8 Assult rifle (Same gun that was on board the sulaco, if you look past the pulse rifles when Frost is gearing up you will see a row of L8 Assult rifles, same weapon the British uses)

Yea if you watch Aliens you will see those guns when the marines are gearing up. kinda hard to notice them but you will see.You can tell Cameron took some ideas from the L8 Assult rilfe and added them to the Pulse Rifle, especially the green plating on the guns. http://www.dreadgazebo.com/gunporn/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/gunporn-l85a2.jpg

Because they are stupid and have no business being in the AvP universe. They were a sad sad attempt to put variety into a sad sat excuse for a game. Aliens with giant Razor Blades for hands that lop off heads... dumb. What is the purpose of the carrier? Just another dumb invention. Facehuggers have shown no sign dying randomly by walking on a non-hive environment. And they've never gone piggy backing on any aliens.

lols. I'm the guy who's keeping tabs on what will eventually permanent features, sparky.

Secondly, the button = console superiority argument is rather off the rails, seeing as a mouse and key board effectively gives you 120+ buttons, in addition to native usb support for the 360 contoller.

And finally. The game is absolutely for adults as stated by Jason Kingsley and Tim Jones. As in adults with jobs who can afford a PC as opposed to a console.

Unknown.

They said four categories, but how many slots will be in each category is unknown.

They might do it like Half-Life, where you have broad selections with multiple slots.

(Plus if they have DLC weapons, they probably won't talk about them)

My inquiries mainly pertain to the Alien game-play aspect of the new AVP title. I want to know if the Aliens will be portrayed in an authentic and faithful manner to the Alien films and not the mindless, weak, cannon fodder they've consistently been portrayed as in previous AVP games (the first PC AVP game more so than the second). Previously, the Predators were given an almost god-like status over "the ultimate prey" that made one wonder why the Preds would even bother with them.

The Alien warriors were always too small in previous AVP games and not accurately scaled to about 8' when standing upright. This concerns me because they look too small in the screen shots that were released. They also were not as tough and as strong as they should have been in previous AVP games and the reduction of their speed and agility has me concerned as they seem to be too sluggish in the video clips. Will these issues be addressed?

Will the Alien be limited to using it's inner jaw only on a target's head again? If so, why?

Will the Alien be able to see a target's "pheromone" trails on objects and other surfaces (i.e. footsteps on the ground that are lit up with "pheromones")?

How are the Alien's vision modes being implemented? Ideally, there should only be one vision mode for the Alien that reacts accordingly to the lighting in the immediate environment.

Will the Alien have the ability to spit acid on a target or object to damage it and impair the target's vision?

Will the Alien life cycle be implemented in both single player & multi-player modes?

Will the Alien be able to knock over and/or incapacitate a target then carry it away to either be cocooned as a potential host or finished off?

How is the Alien's AI being handled? Are they going to behave and react intelligently (i.e. stealthily, and not running head long into incoming rounds)?

Is the species point ratio system for the multi-player modes returning from the first PC AVP game? If so, why? It seemed like a cheap way to "level the playing field" to an already inaccurate and imbalanced set of characters and weapons. Though not without it's problems, Monolith created a much more faithful and balanced multi-player system for AVP2.

One of the biggest problems with playing as the Alien in previous AVP games was the wall-walk mechanic was unreliable. The player would constantly either get stuck, fall off, or not be able to grab onto surfaces properly. Hence the player would get killed a lot more frequently than they should have. And it was vexing enough the Aliens couldn't take as much damage as they should've in the first place. How is the wall walk mechanic being implemented this time?

Why is the Predator being given a second set of wrist blades? Personally, I really think they need to be taken out. If anything, dual forearm scimitars would be more appropriate (say as weapons that could be acquired and equipped later on in the game).

Will the Predator have the Smart Disk and Shurikens?

Will the Predator have the Razor Whip?

Will the Predator be able to throw his spear and pin targets to objects?

Will the Predator's plasma caster bolt track targets like in AVP2? If so, why?

Will the Predator have to equip his Plasma Caster and manually push a button to fire it, or will he be able to multi-task like in the films?

Will the motion tracker be an item that has to be equipped to use instead of being part of your HUD? If not, why not?

How interactive and destructible will the environments be? Will light sources be destructible?

Will the Pred-Alien's reproductive method from AVP:R be included? If so, why?!

Well I have a few things that I wont to hear about so hear it is,
1.Will aliens acid destroy portions of environment?
2.Would Alien be able to headbite any part of the body?
3.In the marine missions will fellow marine Buddy's be picked off with out you even knowing where they went like the first fight in Aliens.
4.Will you gain the option to skin your option as the predator.
5.Is there going to be an achievement system on the PC game.

Worst argument ever. There are tons of mature games for console. Also, when the PS3 strike the market, its price was arround 700$ (not the kind of product a kid can afford), and its a Blue-Ray system whit a hard disk inside that you can use for a lot of multimedia stuff.

You can argue about the hardware power, thats true...but just get over of that endless console = kid discussion. We are not in 1989, and the black 700$ block wich lays on my lounge's floor its not a "gameboy"

lights can be destroyed.

the plasma bolts track.

both are in the many pred videos that u can watch and in the previews....

here is my theory on y plasma bolts are tracking. in the movies, the pred locks on and fires the bolt. However, in-game, when the pred locks on, it screws up your ability to lead the target with the bolt. the pred locks on to the target to make it movie authentic.

so here are the options,

-have it lock on and not track, but speed up the bolt so it hits the target at medium distance, if that happens the pred would need to stay invisible, bolts need to be super weak, and the bolts should make 80% contact, to be an effective weapon.

-have it lock on but slow the speed down and make it track, have avp2 style damage rating, slower bolt gives u some time to find cover.

-Not have the pc lock on which makes it not movie-authentic.

None of which is a reason for a console to be lead platform.

There are more PCs capable of playing games than consoles combined.

Wait... the bolts do track? Son of a... that is so damn stupid and completely inaccurate! I couldn't tell for sure if it tracked when I was watching the vids, but I did notice it's stupid fast now. Which is probably why I didn't notice the tracking. Damnit. Don't they realize this just cheapens the weapon and therefore the Predator by extension. >:(

...Monolith were the ones who introduced tracking for plasmacaster projectiles in the first place. Rebellion's original game had lock-on only.
But yes, I hope they remove tracking too. AvP2 was really spoiled by the efficiency of the homing weapons.

Why don't you take some of your own advice? Did you realize what you just posted? Ok I'm on crack here is a website that has the same information on it that I provided, and your point is???? Ok I will admit most people don't like what I said but a lot of people agree with it because it has good odds that it's true. Hell I will even admit that I don't like the idea of the console version being better than the pc version but I'm not going to sugar coat anything. But I wanted to responded to this post and not any of the other posts about my opinions only because you sir or madam have no reasoning behind your madness, if you get my drift.

What about us adults who get shitty army pay and want to pay our bills instead of going into major debt for a pc?

Worst argument ever. There are tons of mature games for console. Also, when the PS3 strike the market, its price was arround 700$ (not the kind of product a kid can afford), and its a Blue-Ray system whit a hard disk inside that you can use for a lot of multimedia stuff.

You can argue about the hardware power, thats true...but just get over of that endless console = kid discussion. We are not in 1989, and the black 700$ block wich lays on my lounge's floor its not a "gameboy"

None of which is a reason for a console to be lead platform.

There are more PCs capable of playing games than consoles combined.

The reason is : console sells more games than PC. Im not saying its a good thing, but its true.

She's right dude the console has always outsold the p.c.mainly because people read the back of the box and don't bother to find out if they got the right amount of ram and other necessities.
