So this is from the cut of the film we never got to see but for the glimpse we have in the trailer.
Looks to me like we should be seeing this in the Extended Edition. Also note is that while his head is extending backwards his skull, face remains in place under a new translucent like skin. Almost like the original Alien with it's prominent human skull under a transparent dome.

Is that Mohawk boy turning into an alien?
I would say so, yes. At least that what it seems to imply.
Though his head is extending backwards his skull and face remains in place under a new translucent like skin. Almost like the original Alien with it's prominent human skull under a transparent dome.
And since that black stuff was essentially xeno-juice (it weaponises all it touches by turning it's victims into crazed xeno hybrids capable of infecting others with the squidburster parasite), I guess that above image pretty much nails it.
That would have been so much better than we got! Shame they went for the generic mutant angle- this would have been far more creepy

I like this a lot more than what we actually got. It's way more alien like. And looks a lot scarier than a mutated redneck.
Gollum joins the crew of the Prometheus!
Gollum? That looks straight out of Innsmouth.

It reeks of cutting down for the rating in my opinion. I figure that once they realised they were getting an R (even on their PG13 cut) they started shaving as much as they could to keep the runtime down, which meant scenes like the one above were butchered to fit in a place that it wasn't intended to be in. With the scene's current placement the attack is over and done with in seconds, and we only get a few quick glimpses of Fifield. I think Fox/Scott probably thought the audience would not make the connection on who mutated Fifield is looking like the monster above and so left him looking slightly more recognisable as a mohawk rage zombie.
At least that's what I assume happened. Not fact.
I personally feel that they moved away from this look to keep it 'real' as opposed to CGI... and to try and distance it from something more comparable to the xeno??? It's hard to say without seeing what the alternative would be like 'in action' so to speak.

I don't they chose the alternate because, in all honesty....it looks a little goofy.
Man, they really screwed the pooch with this movie. All the good ideas were kept out!
They could make a whole movie about a transformation like that all Fly style. So cool.
The word I heard was that they got an R after submitting it as the PG-13 cut. It got an R solely based on the medpod scene, which they (wisely) refused to cut down anymore. So I think any calculation on the Fifield look was made long before then.
I also don't think the more alien Fifield would've gotten them an R. I think it's likely Ridley chose the latter because he wanted something more 'down to earth' and again, feared how the general public might respond to a weirder monster which they might laugh off just to be cynical. I can understand that logic there - and I was okay with the final mutant - but I think I'd prefer this.

I read the same thing somewhere - that the theatrical cut was intended to be the PG-13 cut and Ridley threw a huge fit when it came back R and refused to make any additional changes.
In regards to Fifeld's "Alien" look, I think they wanted to portray the black goo as more of a virus that infects a person rather than a catalyst for transformation. In the art book, the author describes Fifeld's final look as a "mass of infected flesh" rather than the "babyhead" look.
It's likely they cut this version because they were afraid it wouldn't be clear that this is Fitfield mutated.
Ffield + Black Goo = Devolution of the Species
There is a scene where he slams his fists down on a crew. It kinda reminds me of those apes slamming their fists on their opponents in Kubrick's 2001. Obvious reference.

Can I ask where this comes from? Only ever seen the smooth dome Alien for the original film.
Two stills have surfaced of the alternate Fifield creature and (like opinions of the film) are everyone is polarized.
The only thing I can think of is that they changed it to make Fifield more recognizable. It obviously wasn't to save money or they wouldn't have gotten so far on the CGI.
Until we see it in motion, and see it's expressions and it's character there is no way to know if it was the 'right choice' to go with the live action prosthetic covered Fifield or not.
I hope all of these stuff giong into the Extended Cut, the mutant Fifield stay in the theatrical cut of course, and the alienated Fifield goes to the extended cut. If the warner released the Ali3n on two different form, i hope they will relese this movies too.
This is him on motion right? Doesnt even look like CG to me.

I'm starting to think the "I am a business man" quote from Ridley is truer and truer. We will see these on DVD/BR. They knew saying that they were releasing an edited version would be box office death.
I can understand why they went for practical makeup on Sean Harris if Ridley preferred his performance w/o much CGI. He's a hell of an actor.
That said, I think this thing (and another like it!) would've been even more fun.
Looks too Gollum-y for my taste, at least from those pictures. Maybe if he turned his head I'd change my mind. Still better than the one we saw in the film. :D
Other than 'crouching' and being generally greyish in color and ghoulish in nature ... I'd say he looks nothing like Gollum.
Gollums magic was in his performance. His design wasn't much more than a big eyed, emaciated Peter Lorre. The Fifield creature on display here has potential. We'll see how his character is portrayed soon enough.
While I do agree that this is scarier, it also looks like a lot of CGI wizardry would have to go into this version of Fifield to make it work on screen. He is definitely more Gollum-ish here. I'd prefer what we got in the actual movie if this version moved in a way that was slightly more awkward and cartoony due to the constraints of CGI.
Remember guys, this is just a picture...
They should have used this one!!

Come to think of it, this Fifield design
does kind of look like Peter Jackson's Gollum too. I was thinking the iconic Gollum form the animated movies, especially the eyes, but it looks like a mix of the two ironically enough. A dark ghoulish mix. Still, I would've liked to see this Gollum'ish Fifield in action - it's hard to judge from a couple halfway drawn concept pieces.
CGIfield + Deacon = Golum. Conspiracy?

You'll note the absence of any reference to Rubber Johnny as being 'real'. The character in the music video was based on real life deformities. Obviously so were the Fifield monster concept. (And the Ripleys 1-7 in Resurrection.) As they all share the same features (and have been well documented in their inspirations.)
I wish people wouldn't be so hasty in their rushing to judgement and ravenously tripping over their own posts in order to try to

Does it bother you that I think xeno hybrid designs come from xeno hybrid concept art based on artists interpretation of what a xeno hybrid looks like... from the Alien series?
I wouldnt cite a still from a batman movie displaying martial arts skill as being an example of real life skills for example. In the same logic, I wouldnt cite a monster from a short filem displaying a mutation as being a real life example of deformity. Ill make a note and do my very very best to never correct you about something ever again sir. I wouldnt want you to be upset or look foolish.

As much as I thought I would prefer the more alien-like Fifield, I can definitely see why Scott may have cut it. The notion that human beings can be transformed into xenomorphs opens a huge can of worms that I'm sure would be analyzed down to the very last logistical error. It would also add a huge layer of complexity to the existing mythology. I think he wanted the message to be "the back goo will f*ck you up" rather than "the black goo will turn you into a xenomorph."

Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?...
A Dark
Angel Lord of the Sith so powerful he could use the Force to influence the
black-goo midi-chlorians to create...life.

Was this suppose to be an extra creature in the same action scene with the Mohawk mutant, both fighting the security team? That would have been sweet.
Right!
That looks for more interesting than steroid zombie.

its better than what we got for sure, but that ain't sayin much.I hate the design as much as the concept itself.
I cant understand what some fans finds so appealing about space mutants in an ALIEN franchise.
Yeah!
We Alien fans like our interspecies rape uninterrupted by new ideas or creatures! The very thought of adding to the universe makes our blood boil! A man midway through a transformation is just an utterly ludicrous thing that is entirely unacceptable!

Isn't it already established that the xeno (and it's lifecycle) is ever evolving. That advancement requires some form of mutation at at genetic level... so I defo see it all part of the same universe where you'd see xeno's and other such mutations.
Where does Janeks line "kill everything down there" come in? Was it the same scene?
