PREDATOR: THE ARCHIVE
MATT SINGER
NOVEMBER 2020, 176PP
324 x 253mm, HB £35.00, full colour throughout
Monster, alien, warrior – the Predator is a cinematic creature unlike any other.
From Predator, Predator 2, and Predators to the recent The Predator, these four
films have withstood the test of time and become a cultural phenomenon with a
perfect balance of action, horror, and comedy.
Predator: The Archive is the first comprehensive book on all four Predator films, a
celebration of the this entertaining and highly energetic franchise, exploring the
creation process of all the films in exhaustive and exclusive detail. This must-have
retrospective includes brand-new interviews with the casts and crews whose
creativity and vision birthed a legend. Full to the brim with behind-the-scenes
photography, early concept art and storyboards, terrifying weapons and costumes,
unused ideas, and deleted scenes, this is the ultimate guide not only for Predator
fans, but for all cinema and science fiction lovers too.
Huh
Probably delayed to 2021.
FINALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY!!!!!!YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!Finally the Predator franchise gets a behind-the-scenes book. It's about damn time!!!

Probably delayed to 2021.
I hope not! It's clearly timed with Predator 2's 30th Anniversary.
But please Titan. Please Matt Singer. Please DO NOT stick with that cover, an ADI Predator from The Predator, the most maligned film in the franchise? Use what is consistently praised by all Predator fans as the best. Use a Stan Winston creation for heaven's sake!

I knew Voodoo wouldn't be happy with their choice of cover Predator!
But yes, this is great! Definitely going to have to keep an eye out for that. A comprehensive behind-the-scenes look at all the Predator films (minus AVP/R) is something I'd certainly be down for picking up. Hopefully the page count will be enough to go over all the films in sufficient detail. It seems like it could be a little light for four films compared to J.W. Rinzler's Making of Alien/Aliens books with almost twice the amount for one film each.
Have there really even been many big behind-the-scenes books for the Predator films? I remember there being one for The Predator, but I don't think Predators ever got one (which was a disappointment as I loved some of that Super Predator concept art and always wanted to see more), and I can't recall anything for the first two either. But that's exactly why this announcement is so welcome!

Definitely going to be adding this to my collection when I can.
Off topic, but this listing alerted me to the book on The Fly that I'm absolutely going to want now.
Hopefully it's better than Alien: The Archive.
They did pick the best ADI predator at least. But really Titan? Quit trolling us and put a Winston predator on that cover.
Titan always trolling fans with their covers.
They probably could've gone with a more interesting or striking cover choice. The Predator's book had a great cover having the Predator's armor be shiny to catch the reader's eye. Here it's just a face and just a close up from the promo photos.
That makes me wonder if this one will have anything at all on the Emissaries, since I heard there was nothing shown of them in The Predator's book. That'll probably be the case again here, but it'd be nice if every film's section was as comprehensive as possible.

You mean like The Crystal Lake Memories of Predator books? That'd be awesome. Would love to see info about the Emissaries.
Very interesting, I don't think we really get Predator only stuff like this like we do for Alien.

I really liked Alien The Archive. Had a lot of interesting things in there.
I didn't uncover anything in Alien the Archive that hadn't been covered better and more in depth elsewhere.

Yeah, I noticed that. 172 pages feels a bit light for four films. But at this point I'm just grateful for all 172. Except the cover. ;)

Yep, just The Predator 2018 got the making-of book treatment. And I've never understood why. Fox saw Predator 1987's 30th Anniversary worthy of a multi-million Restoration / 3D conversion, but no book? Ever? Until Predator 2's 30th? Strange.
:o
Wait. There's a Fly book coming too?!
God I hate this Predator design so much
It's like the original but ugly and so much worse

Fixed. You welcome :D

Here's hoping ADI can finally explain how and why they compromised such an iconic lifelike design. ADI Duh Predator on the cover? Not good enough.
I fixed it for them:

The One and Only. I like the description - seems interesting, minus the extra word in the second paragraph!
Though 172 pages does feel like too few pages to cover four entire films.

I'm not sure about that one :D
Yea right the predator didn't even withstand the box office let alone the test of time
Ohhhh you better believe I'm buying this. I believe P1 and P2 made it Predator the icon it is today.P1 established the creature and P2 expanded on the mythos. I would go so far as to say the showdown on the predator ship at the end of P2 is one of the most important scenes in the whole franchise. Predators was a good addition to the franchise I just wish it did more with the p v p race war. The predator had the lab scene which I've always wanted to see on film but that was it's only redeeming quality in my opinion.
Hi. For the love of ..... Please change the cover .....
The name of the book is ; Predator the archive
So please change the photo cover
Regards

Blame the suits at Fox. I doubt we'd get anything in the book on the re-shoots but I would love it if they said
something.
The Disney purchase might mean whoever blocked all that stuff Fox is gone now.

That would be fantastic news. Especially if Disney decided to dip into the stuff that was blocked. Be fantastic to hear the stories behind the production.
Any truth to the few months old news that Quentin Tarantino might write a predator script for disney ?
That was a load of bollocks from a piece of trash clickbait website, I'm afraid.
Anyway, commenting on the actual book! So woot! Predator behind-the-scenes book! Alien: The Archive was a little thin on the ground for me. Wasn't much we didn't already learn from CdL's docs or the other existing material. So I hope this Predator one goes further that! I want something interesting! Very glad to see it coming out and can't wait to get my hands on this one.
Though I do like Fugitive, I do agree that it needs to be Stan's original on the cover, same as they used Giger's original Alien artwork for Alien. Give us the OG for this! Already seeing people just glance over it on FB because of The Predator imagery.
I hate to say that the imagery does bother me too. To pick a character from the more contentious of the movies as the Front Cover :-X What are the odds that it could get changed at this point, if any...
I'm curious to see if the "unused ideas/deleted scenes" will be aside from what had been uploaded to social media pages after The Predator came out (i.e. Amanda/pod, Pred-monsters, Preds in Pants), or if there'll be a similar section for the other movies (Predators, namely).
While incredibly fascinating it would be, I personally doubt they'll touch upon that infamous Amanda scene, or Newt or Ripley for that matter. :)
I'd be disappointed if they did hide all the other deleted stuff since we know about them now. I'd like to see them reasoned out. It'll just be ridiculous if they completely omit the Emissary's too.
Agreed. At this point the cat is entirely out of the bag now.
There we're no Emissary Predators.

I think you mentioned on one of your podcasts that the reasoning company people go with in such situations is that this is the creature from the latest movie to date. If there hadn't been The Predator, they would've used imagery of Classic from Predators
Finally some good news on Predator literature ;D
Can't wait for this.
It's been a long time coming. Too long.
Is there any updates on this ?
Nothing new that I have seen...
I am a little scared of the page count.
I would love to see some images from the mythical unrated cut of Predator 2

As far as I can tell it is indeed, unfortunately, a myth.

Bite your tongue!!!!
So... I guess this one is not being released in november then. :'(
Yeah, unfortunately it's been seemingly pushed back.
As it was never actually "officially" announced, I'm not sure that original release date was accurate.
Any news on this one? I was really looking forward to a BTS book for predator... :-/
No official news yet but I wouldn't worry. :)
Does anyone have any update on this book?
If it is a lost cause, does anyone have any recommendations on a book similar to this?
Thanks!
No idea what's going on with that one, hopefully pushed to fall to include stuff on Prey.
