Yikes, I wonder why? Maybe they had run out of time to put it together with losing the license. Still ahould have just scrapped the book then put it out in this condition.

:'(

Russ840

Yeah. This is real poor.

Does anyone know if the very first paperbacks for this had the original colours ?

They do not... just the original issues have the original water colors :-[

I was hoping for a collected edition using the original colors, I actually like them. However my dream is for a re-coloring.

Russ840

I may have to track down the original issues then.

You never know. Marvel may give us that recolouring.

I have the original issues, the prequel DHP issues (#36 signed by Dorman) as well. I also have the orignal TPB, the 6 DHClassics reprint single issues, the AvP2010  HC recolor of the prequel, AvP Omnibus, the DHP 5th Annv prequel reprint, and now the 30th anniversary on the way now.

Don't know why I have so many versions of one story :D

'Cause it's AVP!

Original colours were really sloppy

Recolour was dull and dreary

Only good colouring was that of the AvP 2010 #0 special

Picked my copy up yesterday. Having read the foreword, looks like we have Phil Norwood to blame for the colouring. He convinced Stradley to get it redone.

Yeah I thought that was funny, still I prefer the original colors by far. I'm surprised Stradley and Norwood prefer the recolor.

I feel bad for Monika Livingston, her coloring may not be imperfect but it has more charm and quality to it than the soulless recolor which has been printed ever since the original single issues (in the US anyway). Both the coloring's are a disservice to the art.. Dzioba did a great job though.

Well that's disappointing as hell. It's time to start planting some sound massage and subliminals into Marvel's ear... dzioba...  dzioba...

The original 1991 TPB does not have the original coloring? I always thought it did.

Also, not quite the same but, Aliens Magazine Vol 1 in the UK did an 11-part serialization with the original colors in 1991. And there was an original color 3-part release in Germany that same year. Some more printings for 426Buddy to collect...

426Buddy

Yeah Rambo I purchased the original TPB a few years back thinking the same but alas it was not the original.

I've limited myself to US publications only  I don't have the resources for any more but I did make an exception with the Aliens UK Mag Vol 2 since they are a little easier to come by, but I still don't have the last issue.

We really need to start pooling our AvP Galaxy resources and collections and get some decent scan archives put together of the old Aliens Magazines, there is no way these are going to be collected officially and as more of us get older and time goes by these are simply going to be lost to the ages as their print paper crumbles. Lets face it, no one cares about these gems but us.

If not now, when? If not us, who?

426Buddy

Right, the paper quality is already poor for the UK mags, time is not kind to them.

Russ840

So i was just giving this another look through.

This is a real piss poor effort, it really is.

I noted before that there was not a very inclusive cover section but damn. It does not even include all the series covers. The covers we get are

The Dorman wrap around for the trade
Issue 0 by Mignola
Issue 3
Issue 4
The trade cover to War is in the book as well.

That's it.  No issue 1 and 2. No Dark Horse Presents cover either.

Another exclusion i noticed is the pin up art pages from the original trade (the ones that decide the chapters) they aren't here either.

If page count was an issue, which i cant see that is would be, Dark Horse should have sacked off War and given us all the covers and previous behind the scenes content.

The worst offender here, though, is the printing.  God it is bad. Compared to the original trade it like comparing a CRT tv to a HD tv. How can my 25 year old book look better than this 'premium' book?

Am i the only one here this disappointed?
