It seems like Adam Mckay might direct a movie based on Garth Ennis's The Boys. I read the first 30 issues or so a month ago and it was alright I guess. I like my superheroes a bit brighter though. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what this movie will be like. :)
The series is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as "The Boys", whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.

Never read any of the comics, though I wish I did, but I have been looking forward to this movie since I had an idea that was similar to this comic, until of course I found out about it. So no doubt I'd very much like to see this movie.
i've read the first 2 trades, and i like it but not as much as i liked kick-ass, which it is kind of the other side of the same coin to,
if they make it they need simon pegg, who has a pretty full movie schedule over the next couple of years.
they better nor make the whole team american! that would annoy the crap out of me.
Simon Pegg as Hughie and Vinnie Jones as Butcher, that would be perfect casting. ;D

Adam McKay has met with Russel Crowe for the role of Billy Butcher.

"I've sat with some people. I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher," said McKay. "We met and had kind of an interesting meeting. Everyone knows Simon Pegg can take Hughie if he wants," he said. "I don't know what his schedule is like, though."
"I'm writing completely on my own on that, so it's taking twice as long as it should," he laughed. "I am actually in the home stretch. I have about two weeks left on this draft and we're going to try and get it made. It's looking pretty cool. I'm excited about it. You really have to wait until the draft is done to get serious about it, plus it's like a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie, so we have to see who bites on it," added McKay.
It's been a while since we last heard anything about this, but it's still in the works.

Well that's good. Still looking forward to this.
Love to see what they could do with this. It's one of the more realistic takes on superheroes.

I don't know if realistic is the term I'd use, :D glad to hear the movie is still in development, i fell behind on reading the comic, i don't think I've read it since Butcher, Baker, Candlestick maker
Simon Pegg needs to be attached to this.
I love the comic book series and their " absolute power corrupts absolutely" take on the supers.
Who would be best to play the Homelander?
QuoteI don't know if realistic is the term I'd use
Superheores, that are also human beings and therefore susceptable to human vices and failings. A lot more true to life than the other more fantastical superheroes that populate comics and movies.

Sounds like something you could get from picking up pretty much any comic book these days. The Boys seems just as over the top as many other comic books to me, with every second character being a nymphomanic murdering psycho for me to call it realistic.
I'd rather see a Preacher movie to be honest.

I just think it treats the material in a much more - I dunno if 'mature' is the right word - fashion. It's less given to the cliches and 'Hollywood endings' and dreadful earnestness of your average super hero comic. Plus I like the idea of a corporation running the whole thing and the 'heros' often being complete c**ts, while being protected by a corporate marketing machine. Then the actual 'heros' - ie. The Boys - are only really the heros because they're not quite as big a pack of c**ts as the superheros. Plus it's Garth Ennis. I'd rather read The Boys (or any of Ennis' stuff) than Thor, Fantastic Four, Spider-man, Deadpool, Superman, etc. etc.
I liked it at first as well, but I think it just got too much after a while.

I didn't read the graphic novel but I am super intrigued by the show. I love Karl Urban.
Thank you
HuDaFuK for making me aware of this. Looks bloody brilliant. ;D
July?? Goddamnit...
That was insane! I'm looking forward to this so hard now :)
This looks like the bastard lovechild of Deadpool and [/i]Watchman[/i].
Hard pass.
Yeah, this is one of those things where the premise is so edge lord-y that it might be a disaster. And I love me some Garth Ennis, but The Boys is the one comic of his that never really clicked for me. At least I still have one last season of Preacher to look forward to.
Quoteedge lord-y
Oof, that's the word.
If they ever make
Hitman though, I'll be soooo happy.
Wait it's not about these Boys?

Two episodes in and I'm very much enjoying it so far. Urban is great, of course, but they have a really solid cast for the rest as well.
I really enjoyed it - time to read the graphic novels !
Graphic is the right word! :D
Watched 3 episodes last night and I'm enjoying the take on the genre. Karl Urban is just amazing and the whole thing with Translucent was great.
I think im about 6 or 7 episodes in. Everything is done really well and it should be great. But for some reason the series isn't really holding my interest. Karl Urban is awesome as always though.
I finished the show last night. Thoroughly enjoyed the take on it. It's had me on edge so much about what's going to happen (though some elements have been predictable, but not to its detriment) and I can totally buy into superpowered people being jerk-offs like this.
I've avoided reading up about the comic as I want to read it, but I understand it's been different but people have still been enjoying it.
Love this show and can't wait for season two.

Yes! Such a fantastic addition to an already fantastic show. ;D
Amazon released the first three episodes by mistake. ;D
That was a mistake? I've seen some one-star reviews from people whingeing that Amazon didn't release the entire season at once so they could binge it over the weekend. Maybe they're adopting Disney's strategy with The Mandalorian.

My bad. I thought they got leaked and Amazon decided to put them up early to counter that.
HBO Max is doing the same thing with Lovecraft Country and Raised by Wolves too.
They must have decided that it was counterproductive to post an entire season at once if they want to sustain that "water cooler buzz" for several weeks.
Spoiler
Turns out Stormfront is aptly named. They were building her up to be halfway likeable and then she turned out to be a psychotic, mass-murdering racist.
I feel like streaming services that release stuff weekly is relying on old hat regular ass TV ideas.
It's marketing. It may technically be anti-consumer for those who just want to binge and cancel, but that's exactly what these services are trying to avoid.
They need people to rave about how amazing last night's episode was and then speculate with anticipation about the next one week after week so more people will experience FOMO and sign up.

Which is why I'm shocked that Netflix hasn't made the transition to weekly releases, honestly. I prefer weekly releases anyways. I'd rather not feel obligated to cram my whole viewing of a season into the first weekend to avoid spoilers, only for people to forget about it all a few days later and move on to the next thing. I'd rather have gaps between episodes to discuss, speculate on what's coming next, etc. and really let my enjoyment of a show simmer.
I have to say I also prefer the weekly releases too. But even with them it's still a race for me to avoid looking at places during the day and get home to watch it sometimes
I caught up yesterday. Really enjoying the series. It's more of what I loved about the first, intensified. Absolutely love the Boys. That bit with

There must be more subscribe-binge-cancel people than I thought. Some fraudster just used my credit card to sign up for a month of Amazon Prime the other day.
I have only seen some snippets on youtube, but man, this Homelander actor is really good in his role. :o
Second season is great for now. Far better than first one.
Sometimes I think you need a season like the first one to set the dynamic, but in the early going there appears to be much more happening and the show has been more interesting as a whole.
Not that the first season was bad.
I liked the first season but it really hit its stride in season 2.
Yes I agree.
Season 1 was good for me, but in the first three episodes of second season the level is higher. 2x03 is absolutely fantastic.
Episodes 1-3 of season 2 have been great, got to love Butcher, "thats diabolical" never suited so much. I get the horrible feeling that Homelander is on the brink of a total melt down rage quit.
Stormfront is one of the best character indeed.
Episode seven was fantastic.
The final is going to be awesome.
Didn't realise we were so close to being finished already. :'( That flew by! I've been enjoying this season so much too! That f**king end of the last episode... :o
Great ending. I love this show.
Spoiler
I did notice in the very first episode that he was very Nazi Propaganda esq. Perfect jawline, blonde hair, blue eyes. The ideal Aryan I suppose, so it doesn't come as a shock that he was in a sense exactly that.
Still, I personally find it somewhat cheezy that the evil in the show all ties back to Nazi's, it's almost cliche.
Shit, wasn't expecting that ending! :)
Great finale to a great season.
Spoiler
I know that a scene of Homelander fapping all over the city was cut from season one, so I wonder if they just reinserted it or if they filmed it again.
EDIT: from what I've read, they just reinserted the original scene. That would explain why Homelander looked a little different.
Spoiler
The kid being the one to off stormfront felt really unearned and more like actual capeshit than a parody of it. I'd have liked to see the boys + starlight and maeve actually pull off the kill.
Spoiler
Yeah, I was a little disappointed when she flew off from the fight, but it fits into the whole "who do you hate" angle from the training earlier, and I'm sure the collateral isn't going to just disappear. It'll have some ramifications.
Another fantastic season though.
I think the next season will start with a time jump. All the subplots are ended with this season, season 1 and 2 are like a big film divided in part one and two.
In your opinion how many seasons there will be? I hope not too much (max 4 or 5, not more).

Yeah, there's that, but I'd like to see the superhero killers actually kill some superheroes eventually.
Well, they did kill Transparent with a bomb shoved up his ass.
And the 14 episodes since then?
W-well... it's complicated!

Maybe a bit nitpicky, but the Supes shouldn't be so carefree against bullets, if a mere knife can be enough to get eye gouged. Maybe she could grow it back, though. ;D
Great season on the whole but i really thought we would get to see Homelander totally lose it in the finale, that would have been perfection.
Quote from: DeadlineWe'll be seeing more of Victoria Newman and Ashley Barrett on The Boys. Claudia Doumit and Colby Minifie, who have recurred as Victoria and Ashley, respectively, have been promoted to series regulars for the upcoming third season of the Amazon series.
