In all things we need balance...  :P

So what are your favorite things in Fede Álvarez's new movie?

PERSONAL TOP FIVE

1 - The mention and use of Plagiarus praepotens. I'm a huge admirer of Alex White's work, particularly on Alien: The Cold Forge, and I'm glad their concepts are starting to get the recognition they deserve.

2 - The Alien: Isolation-like retrofuture/cassettepunk aesthetics. Generally speaking the movie's art direction is a gigantic homage to the video game masterpiece. Pretty nice!

3 - The Offspring. Incredible design and absolutely nightmarish moment.

4 - The entire introduction scene with the Nostromo fragments and then the scientific ceremony of Alien worshipping.

5 - The maturation chrysalid. Such magnificent body horror, vaginal and phallic imagery.

It's just for fun. Comic post. Why so serious?  :D

Yes, you're most invited to post anything in the top 5 worst!

Still if you say so, I can  delete it and post it in the Top 5 worst.

It doesn't reach for five moments to me because I found the movie to be a persistent nostalgia plea from beginning to end, which might precisely be why I liked the offspring act only. I think it was best movie part.

I also like the beginning regardless how preposterous the proposition of finding the Nostromo remains, let alone the alien over there, because of the mood it sets.

Also liked the OST nod to 2001: Space Odyssey when that scene is ending, as they show you what was inside that "rock", or "resin", or..., whatever. That OST resembles the very same moment Doctor Floyd is being shown the monolith at the moon.

Entirely agreeing. This was a masterful moment and one of the strongest scifi/horror scenes I've ever seen.

Makes you think about what the movie could have been if it had been scraped from all the fanservice and refocused on its actual themes. Imagine if it had gone through a similar treatment to what Lindelof did by turning Alien: Engineers into Prometheus.

Ditto, that's all I wanted. However, others have liked this movie because otherwise.

Man I swear it should be considered heresy anytime somebody pronounces that surname

Ok, I'm not naming any specific scenes as my top 5, but rather 5 quality points.

1. The look.
From start to finish.
Everything looks incredibly good.
(Ok except for Rook, but even I didn't think that was so bad the second time I watched it)

2. The tension flow.
It feels a bit like a trip through a ghost train, but the film is never boring for a second and the tension continues to build.

3.Creature Design. The aliens and facehuggers look much better than in Ressurection, for example.
I have now made peace with the offspring. You learn to appreciate it more when you see the work and talent behind it.

4.Sound and music.
The sound effects are some of the best in the entire saga.
The music was also great, although sometimes too techno-heavy for my taste.
I love the choruses when Big Chap is brought back.
Reminded me a little of The Omen.

5. The cast.
YES THE CAST.
They play really well. They usually behave exactly as the situation requires.
They act believably.
You take away their fear.
I also can't understand why some people say that we don't learn enough about the characters.
Within 5 minutes we learned a lot more than we did from the crew of the Nostromo.

In itself, Romulus is a really great film.
Yes, I have my problems with the logic and therefore also the canon. I actually don't count it as part of the original series at the moment. In order to do that, a few things would have to be clarified and a few things would have to have been done completely differently.
At the moment I would say that for me Romulus is the best fan film in the world.

The_Foxcatcher

1. David Jonsson's Acting
2. Bjorn's death scene
3. Ring Planet Setup
4. The Entire Elevator Shaft Chase/Action Scene
5. First Facehugger Chase Scene (mainly for its wide angle cinematography)

Honorary mentions:
6. Alien Baby Birth Scene (until detaching the umbilical cord, not for anything after that)
7. Rook's deceptive and calculative quotes. I loved 'you have my sympathies' to hear once again. It suited well - addressed to the teen casts.

May be can add some more after I have a repeat viewing.

It's a shame the x-ray chest buster scene was so over-exposed beforehand, because otherwise I reckon it would have been a real highlight for many people. Similar thing for the zero g acid scene. Both really innovative but weirdly easily forgotten.

The Zero Gravity Acid scene was indeed a great thought & inclusion, I would have surely listed out in my top 5 movie monents.

But any liquids....any liquids..doesn't behave that way in Zero Gravity. The Surface tension leads to compress that liquid into spherical blobs in Zero gravity. Whereas the movie still have the acid blood liquid floating as spectral.scattered Webs. Nope, that doesn't happen in Zero Gravity. We've been grown seeing astronauts IST videos and then we see this! Perhaps the movie makers happened to miss this very scientific phenomena. The scene would have still worked with large spherical acid iquid blobs floating across.....infact would've looked aesthetically  even better! Btw, all these --- not considering the mishap of those Xenomorph bodies which disappeared like video games!

BigDaddyJohn

I'm not sure I can come up with five, but I like Rain and Andy's dynamic, the cocoon scene and Scorched's design.

Special Order 937

I loved the elevator/anti gravity scene.  That's got to be number 1 for me. The offspring and that segment was great too. I'd say the facehugger attack in the flooded room/moving through the hallway of facehuggers gets the number three spot. Andy refusing to open the door was great too. And finally, the opening titles and scene. What a great and eerie way to start everything off.

Ingwar

My top 5:

Cinematography
Andy as a character and his relationship with Rain
Anti gravity scene
Art design
Offspring
