Quote from: BlueMarsalis79 on Mar 06, 2025, 12:14:29 PMI think Avatar's cool, I just don't think it's the coolest ever, more people need to be okay with just feeling mildly one way or the other about something rather than demanding strong feelings.

I'm guilty of this myself with Prey honestly.

I did lose a lot of respect for Big Jim and several others with their response to Emila Perez though.
Lose respect?  What did he say?

i lost some respect for him when he started partnering up with AI companies.

but then again he recently said that he's gonna have a "NO AI used in this movie" label at the start of Avatar3. So.. Probably joined the AI company to try and steer it in the right direction.

Quote from: Corporal Hicks on Mar 06, 2025, 06:34:39 AMHonestly, I'm not surprised in the slightest. Until Romulus, the movies never really acknowledged the expanded universe. It was the exception, not the rule. So I never had any expectations that Alien Earth would be acknowledging any of the established corporations in the EU. Some of the naming is a little disinteresting to me, but I'm not disappointed or upset at all at the lack of Seegson or Bionational.

Hyperdyne is mentioned in Aliens, though, so it's not strictly expanded universe.

The exact mention is that Ash was "an older model (...) Hyperdyne Systems".

Back then, it was a kind of easter egg by James. But if we are taking Bishop and Burke's lines seriously, as a fundamental worldbuilding element...

Well, with this phrasing, Hyperdyne Systems could be anything: a specific line of synthetics, a building norm, a secondary subcontractor, a specific division, a sub-company, anything.

It does not contradict the domination of these "five big".

If anything, Alien: Romulus seems to indicate that both N–D–255 and 120-A/2 models (... what is this nomenclature even) are entirely affiliated with Weyland-Yutani. "He's a Weyland-Yutani synthetic. He speaks Mother". So my money would be on Hyperdyne being a subdivision/subcompany of Weyland-Yutani. About as autonomous as Aspen Beer.

He really, really liked it.

I'm glad to see some vibrant conversation here. I just joined and this is like my first or one of my first posts. I was on AvPNews in middle school in the early 2000s, so this is me joining the enemy, haha. You all seem pretty civil. Even the bickering.

I feel like I often have weird takes on things. I see that the new alien design looks a certain way. I can see how someone would not like it, but I'd be curious to know what people specifically don't like about it.

This discussion has given me much to think about. Someone correctly noted that I'm hung up on the expanded universe. To be fair, Gaska is the official lore dude, and I totally agree with his canon. Isolation is supposedly held to the same level of canon as the films. I do know what you mean by the trend being that the films override the EU. Perhaps I fell for wishful thinking.

I will also say that the clips that just dropped restored a little faith.

That's a fair point. But it is also just one line. I just don't have an issue with it. I wouldn't have been fussed either way. From a continuity pov, I'd have liked to have seen it included. But on the same vein, it's nice to see some new corporations added to the lore too.

I was an AvP News kid myself back in the early 2000s! No need to feel like we're the enemy though - News had pretty much died when AvPG was in the swing of things. Nice to see you here, though!  :)

Quote from: BiZkWiK on Mar 06, 2025, 01:06:17 AMDoes it make anyone else anxious that Hawley has decided to add these new corporations (Lynch, Threshold, etc) instead of using corporations that exist in the canon already (LaSalle Bionational, Seegson, Hyperdyne, etc)?

I'm not really that inspired to think about these other corporation names that popped up. I did wonder a little about the relevance of this Lynch corporation and how it might have bored David Lynch to know bout it. But I did wonder what happened to the White Dwarf Complex

And that makes people lose respect for him? Jeez, Louise, what has the world come to.

I don't even like the movie but even i am not that petty.

From what I've heard about it, people who happen to be either trans, Mexican or both probably do have legitimate cause to lose some respect for anyone singing its praises, rightfully seeing them as ignorant.

Ripley armed with the pulse rifle and the flamethrower, going back for Newt. Then when she finished the queen after that badass powerloader fight...Newt calls her "mommy" and your heart melts
I dont need more than that. It always gets me. Aliens rules.

Based on what we know so far does Alien: Earth undermine the existence of Seegson? Basically booting it from Alien's universe or is there still room for it to exist and thus the events of Alien: Isolation as a whole?

Seegson was a pretty minor, second or third rate company in Isolation. The game definitely doesn't give the impression that they'd be a major controlling entity like the corporations this show is presenting.

Ah yes, I think you're right. I thought that because Seegson was a rival to Weyland Corp, at least until 2071, they might have been a bigger player on Earth during 2120. From Alien: Isolation's logs, it seems like Seegson only really started deteriorating after 2124, but I could be mistaken. Is it stated how big they were by 2120? If they were already a minor, third-rate company by then, then there really wouldn't be any issue with them receiving no recognition in Alien: Earth.

I'm sure no Seegson will be featured in this.
