Even the name Tsula is derivative of another popular non-film character.

Just started issue 1 on this series. What the hell is it with Marvel and their colouring? Way too rich and over saturated in colour - totally off the tone and vibe of what it should be. The keyline artwork is decent for the most part but boy, the colouring really lets it down.

Larocca aside I don't think there's any bad art in the Marvel books. But Utopia aside, I don't think any of it is good.  It's very bland and generic and yes, the colours are often not suitable.

Utopia was sensational. Gimme more of that please. Stylised and didn't feel so Marvel `template' branded.

See that's interesting, the Marvel 'template' you mentioned is exactly why I stay away from comics these days. Miss the early classic days of Dark horse personally.

For me the colors match the tone of the story. This is not set on a typical space station or installation its set on a paradise world.

It's bright, it's cheery with a very dark undertone. It's not your typical alien setting and it's good to see that.

Ok, so why does every Marvel comic have the same bright high saturation colours?

Disagree mate. It's been the same tone & colour since their first release. That bright, oversaturated palette is their staple. For me it doesn't suit the tone of Alien at all. It screams their staple Superhero vibe.

Fair enough it's not a typical alien vibe or feel. Marvel isn't Dark Horse sadly. I just picked up some DH Alien comics and it's a different animal. I know the creative team wanted to create a different vibe with Alien Paradiso and in some respects it worked.

All good mate. I did forget to add that despite my gripes about the vibe of the artwork, I've managed to enjoy most of their runs so far. I mean if we are honest DH had some hits and some big misses too.

It's a fair argument that Paradiso is set in a resort so should have a lighter tone and I could accept the tone in Paradiso if it wasn't, as SiL said, the same as every other series they've done.

I've been revisiting a lot of the early DH stuff and - possibly Earth War aside - I think all of it so far, even with myriad flaws, is better than Marvel.

It's also an insight into just how critical the job of the colourist is when it comes to comics. Most will focus on the keyline (inker) artist but a colourist really has just as much stake in the final art.

I've all the Marvel stuff so far. For the most part there's a lot of interesting stuff. If my memory serves me correctly the very first issue has a great double spread of various different kinds of xenomorphs. Plus that all alien issue with no humans was....different.

So just finished issue 2 and came across that reveal.
My very audible groans were probably heard down the street.
Yet another silly blood relative somehow caught up with a Xeno. LOUD. AUDIBLE. GROAN.
It's getting as bad as everything being somehow related or involved in the Skywalker legacy in Star Wars.

(Just rememberd Dutch's brother was in the first Predator run in DH + also his great-great grand daughter in Judge Dredd)

I heard it from 700km away, nevermind down the street.
