Thermal and Cloak did not age well at all

They both aged definitely. But I like this thermal version waaay more than what we got in The Predator for example.

Is the thermal as fine and clear as the tech today? No but does it deteriorate the film experience to a point where I feel I'm questioning the age of the FX itself, and personally the answer for me is no.

As for the cloak.. I honestly just don't see it that way. I love the cloaking, the texture and style of it and again the way it interacts with the environment and light. I wish they would go back to the pattern of the cloaking from the original film.

Agreed, it all adds to that recognizable iconic Predator vibe.

Not my favorite but it's up there. My top films are Jaws, Alien, Predator, Aliens, Saving Private Ryan, interstellar, the Dark Knight, Rocky, the Perfect Storm, Star Wars OG trilogy, and LOTR trilogy...okay there's a lot of others.

As far as the aging comments go, I lean on the opposite end that just because our FX have gotten better doesn't mean the Predator tech should reflect that.

The thermal and cloaking to me still stand because they still have an alien feel to it. I like how their thermal isn't crystal clear and cloaking is more of a distorted kaleidoscope. It makes their equipment advanced but vulnerable.

I wish they would bring back that laggy, hard to see thermal.
And multiple layered cloaking

But wouldn't their tech get better with time, just like for humans ?

Definitely it would, but to me there is a certain charm to the classic FX, a distinguishable charm unique to Predator. Specifically the distorted kaleidoscope cloaking was an distinctive establishing aesthetic. Similar logic regarding the defining but outdated analog sci-fi and retro-futurist FX associated with the various ships or worlds we see in the Alien franchise.

I prefer the old look too. But it probably wouldn't make much sense for the predator to have this older tech in Badlands for example, considering it's in the future.
