Predator 2 was a nice follow-up with a Predator-hunting team as a direct consequence of the events of the first film. It would have been nice if Arnie did a little cameo where Danny Glover's character sees him being interviewed about what happened, or something like that.

AVP comes out 14 years later and was more focused on "crossover" than building on the two films.
AVP-R was a direct sequel. Whereas AVP was about keeping the "serpents" contained, AVP-R shows what happens when that fails. Yikes!!! After 5 movies, we finally got "Aliens on Earth," even if the movie is terrible.

Predators was basically a one-off. The Predator acknowledged the first two films with easter eggs acknowledging AVP. I haven't seen the prequel yet (Prey), but by nature, it can't be a sequel to anything.

I know nothing about this new film, but to those who have been following production news, will this be another stand-alone like "Predators?" Will this tie into "any" of the previous films?

Nightmare Asylum

Prey does have overt connections to Predator 2, with the presence of...

...the gun that is later given to Harrigan.

No word yet on how/if Badlands is going to expand on anything from previous Predator (or Alien... ;)) films.

I was under the impression it was a sequel to Prey, but also heard it's set far off into the future, which technically makes it a sequel to The Predator.

Badlands is the future one, nearing the end of filming now. There's also a more direct Prey 2 in development, to be made at some point afterwards (unless it ends up getting scrapped for some reason).
