Title: Stingray's Art
Post by: Stingray on Jun 24, 2012, 07:11:05 PM
Many of these are not technically fanart to the franchise, but I included them here because I like to associate them with the same universe.

Enjoy...

A brony and an absolutely f**king amazing artist... you are a treasure.

All of this stuff is so beautifully Chris Foss-ian that I'm literally dumbfounded. Is the Mars United stuff from a project of your own? It's just mindblowing.

Augh, can't even form a sentence without a complimentary adjective, just... absolutely beautiful stuff. Do you have a DeviantArt profile? I must see more of your work.

Holy f**k, I completely forgot that that was the same person with the upcoming fan film.

God I would love to see storyboards for that. If they exist.

Wow, thanks for the many kind words!!

Space Sweeper, yes! Here it is: http://stingray-24.deviantart.com/ (http://stingray-24.deviantart.com/)  ;)
Also the "Mars United" stuff is in fact another project... but one I must keep further details a secret for quite a while.

ShadowPred, I don't have storyboards made out yet, but I do have concept art. Give me a minute or two and I'll post them up. :)

Your renderings of big abused heavy looking machinery is unmatched around these parts. Well done! Your hand must have evolved special tendons over the course of learning how to draw like this.

I love those trickling smears of rust deposits.

Thanks!!  :D

I forgot to mention, that most of these designs are based on those I've seen in dreams before. Except for the helicopter and, obviously, the Nostromo airlock. The helicopter was an idea by my forum friend Tsheten of Bhutan, who wants to study that form of anti-torque design on a rotorcraft, so I thought I'd help his 'vision' out by drawing a concept.

--

And now for the promised concept art for Alien Reborn:

--

This is the very first concept of the USCSS Dreadnaught, then called USS "Logan". It was originally a military vessel like the USS Sulaco, with a crew of 10, eight of them being space marines.

I started this adventure when I was 13 years old.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc06.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2010%2F328%2F9%2F5%2Fuss_logan_by_stingray_24-d33ip2i.jpg&hash=89926a4c45bda394ef907e5c925e160a531a7622)

In an early draft of the script, the ship's name was changed to have an ironic meaning... "Dreadnaught" literally translating to "without fear", serving as the main setting of a horror film. It still retained military status, but the ship's class changed to a scout ship.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc02.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2Fe%2F1%2Fuss_dreadnaught_1_by_stingray_24-d33gpfr.jpg&hash=ac092ac882131694a1bd3529c194d0247592a637)
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc07.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2F2%2F6%2Fuss_dreadnaught_2_by_stingray_24-d33gpjo.jpg&hash=c51b51a982d9e065c1dd7bb8bb6fc8448d07afbb)

I then decided to rewrite the script, being that the first one was the first script I've ever written, and therefore the worst one ever written. I drastically changed the story to make it a civilian starship like the USCSS "Nostromo", but still with the original 10 crew member count as in my early draft.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc00.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2Fd%2F2%2Fuss_dreadnaught_3_by_stingray_24-d33gppl.jpg&hash=99cd35a8d2d978816c46e0c6c39ce95f2cdc9abf)
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc02.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2Fe%2F0%2Fuss_dreadnaught_4_by_stingray_24-d33gpww.jpg&hash=ae132f83127080d766d5195ec833548876b94588)

I decided the script should call for the Dreadnaught to deliver some kind of cargo to a certain area in deep space, or pick up cargo to deliver it to another location where the story would unfold. One of the locations was an artificial colonial planetoid called Ketzel 942.

It had a back story as well:

"It takes the company almost eight years to fully complete these planetoids which are about the quarter of the size of the Earth's moon, about two years faster than terraforming. Unfortunately it's more expensive than terraforming, so the company dropped all funding for these complexes during the first four years of their construction. Only two of them are in existence, with accomodation for only 400 colonists. Since no customers invested in the colonization of these complexes, they only serve as deep-space re-supply spaceports with a maximum of 30 inhabitants, mostly workers."

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2F7%2Fe%2Fketzel_942_artificial_planet_by_stingray_24-d33gs2q.jpg&hash=78c63c0ed798761986ef3f4897148ddc0be53665)
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc06.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2011%2F147%2F9%2F0%2Facp_general_layout_by_stingray_24-d3hdh4y.png&hash=ff9adff680ae55a9409c8525e6e5991f6c3b56b8)

I decided that would be too complicated, especially since it appears so briefly, so I dropped the idea. Instead the ship will simply appear towing cargo in the opening sequence. I also simplified the plot, and reduced the crew count to 5. I changed most of the names as well, and added the ship's on board intelligence, named Overscan (named after the administrator of the Secret Projects forum, who I'm friends with).

Here are further concepts of the ship:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc06.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2010%2F327%2F1%2F7%2Fuss_dreadnaught_5_by_stingray_24-d33gq4o.jpg&hash=2e80f479b4025cf2cc8f863bef80888df08cd582)

This is a pressure door concept, with an emergency system where the panelling blasts away if it malfunctions.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc04.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2011%2F147%2F1%2F5%2Facp_pressure_door_concept_by_stingray_24-d3hdfzp.png&hash=09b9a8a558f07a8d0f8abcf72f7415a30f02332c)

This is a heavy intrasystem shuttle, which never made it to the script.

Description:

"Used for quick interplanetary or intra-system transportation, cargo-hauling, or surface bombing; Four hybrid booster engines with transatmospheric capability and multi-directional thrusters; Advanced communication system with "blade antennae" for reaching system-wide frequencies, plus universal communications with any type of air/space vehicle; Weather radar under nose, "needle" air-data probe mounted on nose, anti-collision early-warning system with automatic evasion and course-correction, infrared and NV tracking and targeting software, interplanetary or intra-system target tracking radar evident with convertible dish able to stow away in the fuselage to prevent blockage of airflow to the upper transatmospheric intake."

In the script, many types of craft and equipment can be found in the cargo bay, such as a "Hover-Copter", tracked surface repairing unit, and several utility/repair vehicles, including "Taarna".

DA artist Rodney Sellars drew me sketches of three of those vehicles...

The utility/repairing craft, later named "Taarna":

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg827.imageshack.us%2Fimg827%2F6871%2Fshuttle1h.jpg&hash=1f31a0209c684a88c29df2dbfccfc4ebe6122960)
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg687.imageshack.us%2Fimg687%2F2720%2Fshuttle2v.jpg&hash=3bff1f61307276dd159abb57ae63f456bad3bf37)

The "Hover-Copter":

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg412.imageshack.us%2Fimg412%2F2268%2Fhovercopter.jpg&hash=ded8dd1ac94d75ddd5edac0cc1b31ea3aec7d060)

And the tracked surface repairing unit:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg692.imageshack.us%2Fimg692%2F6208%2Frepairunit.jpg&hash=90ee5a91c002626497071cacbeee3434141d502c)

However, his design for the Hover-Copter was far too large and I decided to shrink it down to a Nagler-type design:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc09.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2011%2F198%2Fa%2Fe%2Fhovercopter___my_alternate_by_stingray_24-d3z8v46.png&hash=f151d63aebb0ff4569e2a1369d7a7023f70db180)

I had also realized that I didn't plan the escape shuttle design. So I decided that I recreate the utility/repair shuttle to a more boxy shape, and give the escape shuttle the aerodynamic look.

Taarna revised concept:

And so I designed the escape shuttle like the earlier Taarna concept, with a mix of another design Sellars had done, a small hovercraft called "Aeronaut". With his kind permission, I used that name.

I removed the repairing arms and made a special mechanism to reveal the shuttle within the Dreadnaught's hull, in which a panel slides back, exposing the craft to the vacuum, and a large hinge would rotate the shuttle to an outward position, allowing the shuttle to safely blast away.

Sellars' concept for "Aeronaut":

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Ff%2F2010%2F347%2F7%2Fe%2Fmy_ship__the_aeronaut_by_farawayforest-d34uj4x.jpg&hash=900ca91105c3a33f3b1db0cf0f5e91c138237715)

My concept, as the escape craft, demonstrating it's activation:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg689.imageshack.us%2Fimg689%2F3154%2Faeronaut.png&hash=b92b3ffa4996ea3e31ffc55c9ee81c0a6af3a20a)

These were tests for logos for the crew patches:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth00.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2011%2F175%2F0%2F0%2Fcrew_patch_concepts_by_stingray_24-d3juxul.png&hash=0ec8357dd50ce60ab470b56fb36f920bb5d29afb)

I decided to go with the last one, since I figure a bit of a ZZ Top reference would be fun.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc09.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2011%2F175%2F5%2F5%2Fdreadnaught_crew_patch___final_by_stingray_24-d3juybl.png&hash=53a9dda39d1ee2f1bfa3c5adcae4f4dc2bfc5619)

Final design:

Final design, alternate version:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc02.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Ff%2F2011%2F198%2Ff%2F4%2Fcrew_patch___final___alternate_by_stingray_24-d3z7mn8.png&hash=c5916753d670fbf6a84e003433653f32b98f0ce9)

In the script, the characters completely improvise their equipment... the tracking device, flamethrowers, etc.

There are two different flamethrowers: A basic propane model with limited range and less damage (Model 1), and a more portable version with liquid fuel (Model 2).

Model 1:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc01.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Fi%2F2011%2F166%2Fe%2F9%2Fflamethrower_model_1_concept_by_stingray_24-d3iztxd.png&hash=c4a6b4e5019957884291ab555da6534323fa3095)

My god...you're like the lovechild of Ron Cobb and Chris Foss! And I mean that in the best possible way. While you're artwork pulls some elements from both artists, it also has very interesting original designs...the shuttles, the hovercopter, the Dreadnaught concept art...and as a huge fan of the small tidbits in Alien like the patches, those logos you designed are really well done...

Everything with the human side of the Alien series art I ever would've wanted to do has been done by you, and absolutely amazingly as well.

Tears in my f**king eyes right now. Tears! This is beautiful to look at.

Please tell me that you have shown your work around in order to get a job somewhere where designs of yours can be seen. Video games, movies, etc.

Please tell me that you have shown your work around in order to get a job somewhere where designs of yours can be seen. Video games, movies, etc.

ShadowPred, I'm afraid not. The only art I've really "shown" outside of the internet was the remake to The Future... My Vision (the one with the ship landing on a futuristic structure), for the 2012 Congressional Art Competition.

But I guess it's about time I do... I'm 18, unemployed, and hurting for money, after all.
I was kind of hoping to finish the movie first, then make behind-the-scenes vids, all to hopefully use them as demo vids to get me in the film industry, but who knows if that crazy "plan" will ever work.

You're only 18!?

You should definitely be doing this for a living. The designs are brilliant.

Yes, it's all freehand.
Except for colors... I like to digitally color things with Paint.NET. Maybe other slight modifications as well, for example:

I use to, but not anymore. Most of everything is from my own imagination... which often includes my dreams/nightmares.

These days I've gotten quite the hang of drawing mechanical detail in various complexity, without having to look at anything for reference.

No. You did NOT sketch that in math class. You deliberately refused to focus on your studies and completely submerged your attention on creating these marvelous pieces with mind-blowing detail. Your teacher could only watch in awe, while the rest of your schoolmates simply collapsed from the sheer amount of awesomeness radiation.

Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor, otherwise known as the unofficial sequel to The Deadly Spawn. IMO, a decent B-movie with balance of horrible acting, but outstanding practical effects. I highly recommend.  ;)

(In fact, the full movie is uploaded at Youtube right now)

Omgods. Stingray, you continue to stun me with how gorgeous the detail is, I feel vibes of Japanese handscrolls here, especially when you take the faint structure in the back.

Anyways, got a few more new things.

Me and Blaine are collaberating on a possible prequel project for Alien Reborn. Sort of a backstory to both our characters and what we did before we started hauling interplanetary cargo. So far we have an idea for a series about us being star fighter pilots defending the homeworlds from an interplanetary terrorist force. These are early concepts/shape tests for our spacecraft:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc01.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2012%2F342%2Fb%2Ff%2Fmedium_star_fighter_concept_by_stingray_24-d5ngzk3.png&hash=c6ecf48ef4a6e0db4745fc3242541f593b033611)
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth00.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2012%2F347%2F1%2Fb%2Fsingle_seat_fast_attack_fighter_concept_by_stingray_24-d5nwtcj.png&hash=6a4a6db73e3f4be95f367410d7124e0373505d8d)

I'm thinking of recycling unused concepts for Alien Reborn in it too.

And here are concepts for experimental firearms developed by ponies. Yes, those ponies.  ;)

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth00.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2012%2F342%2F2%2Ff%2Fpony_experimental_firearms_by_stingray_24-d5ngytk.png&hash=aab3e7135bee2284354f7dc3d48c2715bbe4a871)

Finally...
I had a nightmare last night. A very graphic one, and it had a big scary monster in it. *squeak!*

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc06.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Ff%2F2012%2F347%2F1%2F5%2Fmonster_by_stingray_24-d5nwti8.png&hash=57f709c49fe97d7841a1710bb08bc457fb442db4)

Note I love nightmares with monsters like these in them. I see potential use for the designs.  ;D

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc09.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Ff%2F2013%2F045%2Fd%2Fe%2Fbattlewings___enemy_mobile_logistics_and_carrier_by_stingray_24-d5uxsl9.png&hash=b13c4c1e114b8847acac1eda21c647aae688e209)

Finally, something I had a dream about last night:

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth09.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2013%2F045%2F5%2Fb%2Fsatellite_surface_laser_by_stingray_24-d5uxtak.png&hash=c8d53f7a7853fa4ed85713901823a015545a630e)

Alright, so this is what happened:

I was watching TV in my room, until mom called me out to see something on her's (which happens all the time in real life). It was a news broadcast and they were talking about how they decommissioned all of the old "Satellite Surface Lasers" as they became obsolete, and expensive to activate. They estimated about $900,000 every one time they are activated for use. They went on to give a little history lesson on their significance...

It seems this was the earliest method of communicating with orbiting satellites in space, shooting this binary-laser beam up to them which creates a channel for a feedback loop between the individuial satellites and the surface receivers. But it became obsolete recently now that they came up with a method closer to what we have in real-life. It's funny looking back on the dream, 'cause this thing sure looks very advanced, but it also looks "overkill" advanced, like the Star Wars project of the 80's. This is probably where they "old-timey" aspect of it came from.  :P

They went on to explain that since their recent decommission, some have been scrapped and others sold to commercial agencies, who planned to use them as this expensive light show for special events. One was even used in a music video for a popular artist (which I probably hate in real-life, given the fact that even in the dream world I said "What a waste of money and good footage of that thing!").  ;D

The scale of the laser devices themselves are impressive (and bulky!). Think radio telescope big, but convertible into a building rooftop. The one in the particular broadcast was next to an observatory, so this one was probably a former NASA machine.

I then went back to watching TV unphased about the news. Then I woke up... and as I did, I felt very strongly that this thing had always existed and was a widely-known device, just as much as a TV antenna or a satellite dish.

More sloppy Battlewings concepts. Don't worry, I'll draw something of better quality soon enough.

Hey, look what I found! Old concepts from waaaay back when Alien Reborn was called Alien Harvest!  :D
As I rummage through my folders I'm finding lots of these. Expect another update soon.

This was an idea for a Terminator-esque villain, purely in subplot to the horde of angry aliens. A giant Terminator-esque villain at that, and the main idea was that one or two characters are trapped under it's confinement in an underground hanger-type facility, and if one of them tried to escape (since it can see anything, except when it powers down for five minutes) it would kill without mercy. I didn't know how to work it in the script, so I scrapped it. But this is exactly how I saw it in a nightmare, storyline and all. Except "I" was its prisoner.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth06.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2013%2F059%2Fe%2F5%2Fticod_concept_by_stingray_24-d5wicd5.png&hash=e5b666df1482259db437c908621ed1945752705b)

This was one of three concepts for the Colonial Marines weapons in the script (I'll find the other two, I'm still looking):

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc03.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Fi%2F2013%2F059%2F4%2Ff%2Fastrofire_m38_concept_by_stingray_24-d5wic3o.png&hash=1bb08d8a0b3896f74747b65e4429fc3bcd7424a6)

This was a concept for a light fighter for the Colonial Marines, which can double as an escort for Cheyenne dropships. This was a mere expansion of the universe, I'm not sure if I had plans on actually incorporating it into the story(ies):

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fth05.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2FPRE%2Fi%2F2013%2F059%2Ff%2F2%2Ff_96_rapier_concept_by_stingray_24-d5wico0.png&hash=a80ae08ba789650ee0c7c826888a492566ec1d9b)

Just did this last night. The first concept for Queen Chrysalis' flagship.

I'm not used to this design style, so I admit that when I started with the left side I didn't really know what I was doing. But when I got to the right, I started getting the hang of it.  :)

Your previous work showed that you could magnificently tackle the human side of the Alien designs, but this piece goes even farther and shows your excellent grasp and understanding of what made Giger's outworldly half of the film so amazing. Bravo, sir. You continue to impress.

You make stuff like this and you're not famous!?

You are either a horribly unlucky person or just horrible.

Thanks! Giger's style is much harder to do than most of the other stuff I've been doing, but it is also more fun since you can go wild with the shapes and stuff. I'm going to do some more concepts of the flagship in this style soon (not really pleased with how this first try turned out).

--

On an unrelated note, I've been trying my mind at tulpaforcing lately. It's still in the early stages, which means I still feel like I'm talking to an "imaginary friend" type of entity, but I'm making progress. I never really got in to the idea of the "wonderland"... it just wasn't my thing. However, I did try it once, and THIS is what I saw. More or less. I knew I had to sketch it out when I returned to reality.

Please forgive the crudeness of it, this is only a basic idea of what I saw. The details were not very clear.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc00.deviantart.net%2Ffs71%2Ff%2F2013%2F089%2F6%2Ff%2Fmy_wonderland_by_stingray_24-d5zt99i.png&hash=c0b26105df1fc4f0a999e2c39d90f98580d86c0f)

Should I ever try this again, I'll make sure to sketch other "interesting" things I come across.

Guys, I tried it again last night. This time I really immersed myself in it.

It started off on what I suppose is the same massive ship from last time, except in the cargo bay. Let me tell you, this place was HUGE! So big that I think I even saw the Nostromo docked in a far corner of it. I swear!

So then my tulpa appears next to me and we talk about... stuff. I don't really remember what. She then led me down the catwalk to a corridor through the ship. She was like touring me around the place, I guess since I'm still new to this.

Then an emergency alarm sounds, and she says we have to get to "the ships". I simply follow her to these hatchways in the nearby wall that lead into the docked fighters. When the enemy ships came charging after us, it was an intense battle, but me and my tulpa fought through it to the very end.

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffc00.deviantart.net%2Ffs70%2Ff%2F2013%2F092%2F8%2F6%2Fmy_wonderland___2_by_stingray_24-d606yk8.png&hash=8d3ad992e33059c414e8fe219ec840bbf9e60368)

After it was all over, we landed in the cargo bay and stepped out of our spacecraft.

"Wow..." I started "that was amazing!"

"Yeah, you did pretty good out there." she replied.

"Say, shouldn't we go dock these back in the original ports?"

"Nah. Let the robots take care of it."

I was shocked. "Robots? There's robots on board?"

"Sure. They're the ones who maintain the ship. That's why, despite its size, it only needs a crew of us two."

I looked around me, taking it all in. "I think I'm going to like it here..." I turned back to her. "Well, I suppose I should get going. See you in the real world soon."

"Alright" She smiled. "See ya."

Now THAT was an adventure.  8)

These are for an illustrated MLP fanfiction I'm working on called Imposters (http://www.fimfiction.net/story/130208/imposters). The idea is basically to have an Alien-style monster-on-a-starship-picking-off-the-crew type of horror story, but the twist is that the monster is a shapeshifting imitator like on The Thing.

Oh dang, I forgot about this place again.  :-[

The movie is still happening, but I need to start making some money, so with the help of my publisher friend in Moscow, I'm now writing a sci-fi book. If you want to know some details about that, go ahead and ask away. After that I'll be focusing more on Battlewings with less pressure.

In the meantime, here's some arts:
(Most of these are concepts for the book; working title is Netsblane. I plan on illustrating parts of it, so I want to get the designs right.)

Great seeing you around again Stingray! Was beginning to wonder if/when you'd ever pop up again! Great art as usual :)

I'd love to hear some details about the book, if you'd be inclined to share.

Thanks!  ;D

Well, the book is planned to be a first installment to a potential series. A long one at that. This is the premise:

Sometime in the distant future...

Civil war has broken out on the remote harvest world of a distant star system. Stabilization forces touch down from the planet Netsblane, a major political superpower with relations throughout the known galaxy. A ruthless terrorist organization has threatened Netsblane with further retaliation until support of their enemy has ceased, resulting in the destruction of the Netsbli embassy.

Meanwhile, on board an ancient space station guarding remote bio-sanctuary worlds, Lieutenants Drake Vetro and Ace Cohen of the Netsblane Universal Operations Command wearily await a transfer where they will see action away from mundane security detail. With recent political events unfolding, the two Universal Operatives finally catch their break and are sent to the long-range carrier starship "Nightingale" of the major naval blockade guarding Netsblane.

There they meet an eccentric crew of characters that help them defend the system against the rising threats, battling on land, in the sea, through the air, and in space, eventually uncovering the truth behind the embassy attack and the involvement of a mysterious shadow faction.

--

It's going to be a mix of sci-fi, action/adventure, drama, and comedy with detailed technical accuracy thanks to the help of my military and aviation friends.

I'm also planning on illustrating it, with a drawing at the start of every chapter. Aside from the more adult situations and orientations, the characters and scenarios are based on the roleplaying combat games I would play with imaginary friends in my backyard when I was a child. The whole "Netsblane" theme lasted for MANY years up until my early teens, so I have PLENTY of scenarios to write about in the future. No sense leaving all that fun trapped in my memories forever...

And I do predict possible controversy regarding the main hero character. He's literally been written in a way that has never been done before in a serious fictional work. At least, to my knowledge.

I hope to finish it by December, at most. I promised Konstantin I would finish it within the year.

If you would like a sample, shoot a PM at me.  ;)

Very cool stuff, man. My interest is piqued. Wishing you the best of luck with such a massive project.

Think I'm gonna hold off on a sample, though. Might be more fun to read it as a whole. :)

Thanks!

Alright then, I understand that.  :)

And hey, at least this project has at least somewhat of a release date. The only thing that could possibly stop me is my dreaded long-life enemy... procrastination. *dramatic music*

Also, my mother constantly interrupting me. Makes me feel like Jack Nicholson in The Shining... you know the scene.

Travis!!! I am so relieved to know you're alive and well! Made me sad to see you disappear like that...

Also super happy that your movie idea is still a-go!

You should post more studies from now on. I'd love to see more.

After lots of life problems and my house burning down from the Valley Fire, I have returned.
Unfortunately the fire destroyed everything but a few computers I saved during the evacuation, so all my previous film projects are pretty much done for a long while, if not permanently.

But my creativity in general is still strong...
here, have a picture of an old TV:

I'm really sorry to hear about your house. Glad you're bouncing back though!

Love the TV. Looks really nice. Have you ever thought about doing some of the low-fi sci-fi bits from Isolation? I think you'd suit them pretty well.

Dude...

There's not much I can say to comfort you after such a disaster affecting you directly... it just f**king sucks, man, and it's unfair. Not only because of your projects but because that house was a big part of your life (at least I'm assuming...)

My deepest condolences, man. I sincerely hope you'll get back on your feet properly very soon, if you haven't already. And seeing you create art so soon? That's f**king badass, man.

Hang in there, Travis. If there's anything we can do from halfway across the world, let us know. :)

Back from the dead again. Quite a rebirth this time around, too!  ;)
I may have changed a bit, but it looks like the site is the same as I remember it. Oh, nostalgia.
Anyway, have some more artsies!

These four were something I did for an Alien fan film that, AFAIK, was never completed. It's been quite a few years and I haven't heard from the creator since I made them, so I figure it's safe to post them. These are concepts for the USCSS Columbus, a four-crew civilian ship that serves as the main setting for the film. I wasn't given much feedback on what direction to go with the base design, so I kind of gave up until I could hear back from him, but here we are seven years later and nothing, so... yeah.

In 2018 my style shifted a lot from the traditional b/w to retro-style colorized space art after some practice coloring my sketches in Paint.NET... it's a style that has pretty much stuck with me since getting the hang of it (but no worries, I still like doing traditional b/w pieces too):

Aeroflot is a major Russian airline... A lot of the little details there advertise real things, they are mostly there to show the kind of cultural diversity in that city.

I've said this many times in the past, Stingray, but your work is absolutely gorgeous.

Loving the coloring style of the new pieces, too. Getting some heavy Ron Cobb and Chris Foss vibes.

Thank youuu... the comparisons to their master work really warms my heart, as I do find them very inspiring.
I must admit to also finding inspiration in the works of John Harris and Peter Elson as well.
Though, I don't personally think my work is nearly up to their level of greatness, but I can dream.  ;D

Definitely in agreement with the Chris Foss look. All you need is some tiger stripes on one of your spaceships and you'll have that style down to a tee!

I enjoy the progression of your art, too, through all the pages of this thread. Keep it  up   :)
