Title: The PAX East 2012 Thread - Full Panel Added
Post by: ikarop on Apr 06, 2012, 01:18:40 PM
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg96.imageshack.us%2Fimg96%2F7232%2F54700023874887289065719.jpg&hash=de64cd08fe7933d256dda2f359ad060fe0c5ca72)

PAX Prime will start very soon. So in order to keep the forum organized and easy to navigate, please try to post anything related to the event here. This thread will be updated as soon as any news arrive.

As some of you already know, Aliens: Colonial Marines will be at PAX East this weekend where attendees will be able to face off against the developers in competitive multiplayer. Additionally, Gearbox Software will be talking about the game during its PAX East panel on Sunday, April 8th at 4:30pm in Manticore Theatre.

Note: Forum user Tonks (aka Husky) will be doing an exclusive write up for AvPGalaxy about PAX East and A:CM! He also will be providing all of us with pictures and info throughout the weekend. Even got him on Sega's list. In short, we all will be trying our best to give people the best online coverage of PAX East.

Awesome, I can't wait!

Just wondering, will ACM multiplayer be playable all PAX-long, starting today?

Just wanna know when I should expect new footage to appear online.

I think so. Hands-on time with the MP and presentation for the SP level. No word on whether cameras will be allowed this time.

Will Tonks' write up be posted on the forums, or main page?  And when can we expect it?  After PAX is over I assume......

It will be posted on both the forums and main page. And when it's done :).

Edit: According to Tonks, cameras are no allowed at the event

Also: "Multiplayer: pulse rifle, shotty, and smg unlocked for demo. Smart gun can be picked up during round"

Another pic from Tonks. This is what you get for being our rep. Thanks to GBX and Sega.

I guess if the cameras are not allowed this means they are not ready to show the game, which lead me to think of another delay :/ But anyway, can you ask Tonks to tell us what MP game modes are available in the demo? Or its just TDM  :)

That sucks if cameras are not allowed.  I hope GBX releases a video of the full demo themselves soon.

According to Tonks, TDM only. Aliens controlled by GBX staffers and Marines for attenders.

That power loader/alien prop looks so cool!

Very nice review Tonks! I am so glad this game is looking to be real deal. The balanced multiplayer sounds fantastic as does the character weights. AVP 2010 felt like you were weighing 80 pounds of armor.

Also the story sounds good too for SP! Please keep up the reviews!

PAX day 1 was a blast - thanks again to Ikarop and AvP Galaxy for hooking me up. I am so impressed with the time Chris spent with me and with Newbeing. He really went above and beyond. Actually everyone involved - sega and gearbox - were all really friendly and welcoming. You can tell that this is a labor of love.

Thank you all for the feedback - sorry if it's a little disjointed. I tried to take as many notes as I could in a short time. If you have specific questions, I'm happy to answer them or ask. I can't promise you'll get an answer, but it can't hurt. Remember that the panel on Sunday may reveal more, too.  I'll have a write up of that, too.

Because you are colonial marine and yes you carry 80 pounds of armor. This is way better than the old games where you fly through the levels with light speed, no matter that you carry armor and tons of weapons.

Dude all of this is so awesome...  I wanted to ask about the MP, did you guys notice the xenos crawling in and out of vents?  How much did that come in to your games, the vents and alternate routes for the alien team?  Just curious, I'm sure different maps will have different levels of vent/alt route access.

Thanks a lot guys, keep it up.  I'm continually just very impressed by the effort GBX is throwing down.

To be fair, we've seen lots of good intentions end up with less-than-stellar products, but they really seem to be backing up their claims with some solid gameplay.  The work definitely shows.

I'm so ready to play.

I doubt ACM will be that bad. Considering Duke Nukem was a 12 year old game that kept getting scrapped and restarted and eventually ended up being released just to release it.

How fast did the marines move? Also was there an always run option or did you have to push a button to run?

Thanks.

You hold down the left analog to run. Sprinting feels like a pretty natural speed. At least I never felt like they moved to slow or too fast.

Noticed that the Alien appears to have a dodge move, which I think is attributed to a chosen skill. By pressing the left bumper it seemed like the Alien player was able to quickly dodge to avoid fire.

Was able to kill a few aliens as they were ready to execute my fellow marines which was really cool.

Got executed by a lurker Alien, which also looked great.

I don't know if this was specific to my game, but it seemed like the alternate fire to the smg was a shotgun and the alternate fire to the shotgun was a grenade launcher.

Thanks for the info!

Do players quickly regen health over time?

Are female marines available in multiplayer?

How much ammo does the smartgun have and is it the same amount with every pickup? Can this item be acquired from a corpse?

Are there any other aliens besides the drone/stalker, warrior, and crusher?

Thanks again!

Health regenerates over time. I can't really say how fast as it was kind of hectic and by the time your deep in the red you're probably dead anyway. I do think this time I played I actually died from being exposed to too much acid blood. I had stepped over a dead xeno by mistake which caused my marine to suddenly slow down as fumes filled my view, then a few seconds later I just keeled over. Probably because I was being an idiot and stepped into another dead Alien.

I don't think I saw any female marines in the gameplay.

I also sadly never got my hands on the smartgun so I can't really say how many rounds there were total or if it could be picked up after the person carrying it was killed.

The Lurker (Giger Alien), the soldier (warrior Alien) and the crusher were the only 3 they had available. They did mention there will probably be more, but didn't allude to what kind or what their special skills would be.

It looked like playing as the crusher was a lot of fun.

The MP map that was available was a HH-inspired map. It wasn't an exact replica/layout of any one part of HH, but it looked like it had been ripped directly from the movie. I caught myself checking out the details in the middle of the match and being impressed.

the hoodies and tee shirts were being worn by GBX and Sega employees and weren't being given out to the public. They were handing out the bandannas to people as they left right after they played the multiplayer portion of the booth.

ps - I noticed the "dodge" move too. I saw a side-step/side-hop type move.  It surprised me at first, because the xeno was there in my sights and then a second later had dodged my shots and was ripping me to shreds!

Prior to picking up the controller, GBX was quick to point out that just because the dots on the motion tracker disappeared, it didn't necessarily mean that the xenos were gone or had died... but rather that they could just be standing still and hiding :)

AvP 2010 hadn't playable female marines because, if I remember right, Reb said that they use different skeleton and animations model and they were pushed by SEGA to release the game so there was no time to implement those into the multiplayer. I am willing to believe them because I know how greedy SEGA are, and we can see from 10000 miles that AvP 2010 was rushed, because of SEGA ofc, not because of Reb.

I had asked during the panel if there was going to be life cycle in the competitive multiplayer. Didn't really get a yes or no, but was told that they are still exploring ideas and some of those ideas will make us very happy. Not sure if that means those who want life cycle in the game happy or just making everyone in general happy. Will be interesting to see what comes our way.

In the singleplayer they said they played it on PC (I saw the PC they were playing on) using a Xbox 360 controller to navigate. Interestingly it seemed like there were PS3 controller prompts on the screen when contextual commands appeared.

I think for multiplayer it was PCs with X360 controllers.

I also forgot one interesting thing that was said about Lance Henrickson's performance was that we would see video of it. Not sure if they thought they brought video (we only heard audio from it) but my impression was we would be getting behind the scenes material with the game. Which would be nice.

I'd also like to say thanks again for such awesome coverage of one of the most anticipated games in Alien-fan history.

Great question with regards to life cycle.  I would love to see that in the game, but from their answer it sounds like they're going to be doing some unique things with the multiplayer regardless.  This makes me so excite.

If anything, I hope Gearbox notices the huge potential for variety and awesome that still rests within the Alien universe (gameplay speaking)...  Exploit this, and the praises of a million formerly scorned fans will fall upon you like a furious rain!

Yeah, when they opened up the cabinet, I could clearly see that the devs (playing as xenos in MP) were definitely on PCs. I even asked about it and the dev confirmed that they were running them on PCs. I'd assume that the marine side were also running on PCs because of the limited set up... but I didn't see the machine with my own eyes. 99% sure everything was PC based at PAX.

Sorry for skipping your question in the write up Newbs. I didn't want to steal your thunder... plus I couldn't remember them giving us any sort of answer other than "we have some stuff in there that should make you guys really happy" :P

It's cool. I just found it curious since there was really no flat out no, which also doesn't confirm anything either, but it sounds like they might try to include the life cycle in some fashion whether its playable or not.

Hey everyone, I just found something in my notes that I forgot to mention - I can't remember when it was said - I think either the panel or my 2nd go around in the campaign demo - but someone asked if co op was going to be split screen and I think Brian confirmed that there would be split screen co op!

Wasn't that confirmed sometime last year?

Great. That was one of the reasons I never picked up AvP. Nothing beats playing some splitscreen with friends.

f**k yea. Though, I don't have many friends around that like Aliens, it's still good to hear that more and more games are having split-screen.
