I love Alien Covenant, but I have some questions. Why do some fans insist this is not the Engineer homeworld? It's where Shaw and David were headed at the end of Prometheus and further suggested by the promotional short showing part of their journey between films. In the finished movie, we only see 3 locations anyway: the Covenant shuttle's landing site, the crashed Engineer ship from Prometheus, and the (presumed) Engineer city. Was there anything here to suggest this is not the Engineers? Yeah, the people welcoming David & Shaw's ship did not look like the Engineers in Prometheus, but I just assumed this was due to being a lot of extras for a brief flashback.

In the film, we learned Shaw did not die in the crash, is that right? I like to think the Engineer ship specifically crashed, because Shaw crashed it in response to what David did. I also like to think that David experimenting on her could be his response to her crashing the ship. Yeah, this is a lot of speculation, but would it not track based on their portrayals in Prometheus?

I really want to see a 3rd film, because of the insane cliffhanger.
#1 What happens to the Covenant colonists? What happens to Daniels?
#2 What will David do to the crew at their destination?
#3 Whatever happens as consequence, why is Weyland-Yutani still desperate for a xeno in Romulus and in Alien (original)?
#4 Does Romulus follow up on any of this? I haven't seen it yet. (car broke)
#5 Does anyone think "Alien Earth" will deal with the aftermath of Covenant?

As for the "they're not Engineers" fan theories floating around, those exist because of exactly what you said: the Engineers in Covenant don't look exactly like the ones in Prometheus (and their actions do seem to be those of beings waiting for their "Gods" to return). That being said, Ridley Scott explicitly intended them to be Engineers, not some other seeded race a la humanity, so that's what I go with. I like to think, personally, that the Engineers on that (home?) world there have regressed over the millennia due to having been isolated/cut off (physically and technologically) from the galaxy around them, for whatever mysterious reason.

To answer questions #3 and #4, Romulus does show what Weyland-Yutani (or at least, the arm of WY present in the Renaissance Station) wants to do with the Alien once they have their hands on it.

Question #5: Likely not, since Earth seems to be set roughly around the same timeframe as Prometheus (and Hawley isn't very hot on the prequels).

I mean, we only see the one city. It's like seeing a small "country village" and assuming the rest of Earth is the same. Have you ever seen Stargate (any of it)? In the movie and lots of episodes from SG-1 and Atlantis, we see a lot of alien worlds that are a mix of "old-school village" and highly advanced technology bordering on "magic." That is the vibe I got from the city in Covenant. Given they have a fleet of Engineer ships under the city, it suggests they are absolutely Engineers. Then there's just the question: homeworld or colony? As for everyone coming out to welcome the ship: maybe they're like, "Hey, we never heard from these guys 2,000 years ago. They're alive!" Happy greeting until the black goo drop.

Planets are big. Maybe the city David came across was a "smaller settlement?"

Does Prometheus/Covenant play a big role in Romulus beyond "look, black goo?"

I hate it when sequels ignore sequels. Terminator has been bad at this.
Ridley's films ignore AVP.
Romulus acknowledges black goo, but otherwise "moves on" from the prequels.
TV show: ignoring AVP and all 3 prequels?

I wouldn't say Romulus "moves on" from the prequels, really. It's set at a different point in the timeline but... its story is pretty contingent on the prequels having happened. You'll get what I mean there when you see it.

I don't think Earth is really going to erase the prequels, honestly. Though it is very likely going to retcon Covenant's stance that David is the original creator of the Alien, and it probably won't be going out of its way to acknowledge the specifics of those films.

QuoteWhy do some fans insist this is not the Engineer homeworld?

Don't know.  Don't like it being the Engineer homeworld because it didn't look sufficiently Giger or something maybe.

QuoteWas there anything here to suggest this is not the Engineers? Yeah, the people welcoming David & Shaw's ship did not look like the Engineers in Prometheus, but I just assumed this was due to being a lot of extras for a brief flashback.

I'd say there's just different kinds of Engineers and they're not a monolith that all look identical.  The ship could have been gone for 2000 years.  Things can change during that time with a race that mucks around with genetic engineering.

QuoteIn the film, we learned Shaw did not die in the crash, is that right?

Pretty much. Originally David murdered her by breaking her neck when he dropped the pathogen but it was dropped.

Quote#1 What happens to the Covenant colonists? What happens to Daniels?

Don't know. There were plans for a game at one point where Daniels consciousness got into the computer systems while she was asleep to try and combat David.

Quote#2 What will David do to the crew at their destination?

Experimenting and hosts if I had to guess.

Quote#3 Whatever happens as consequence, why is Weyland-Yutani still desperate for a xeno in Romulus and in Alien (original)?

Money.

Quote#4 Does Romulus follow up on any of this? I haven't seen it yet.

There are links to the prequels, but no follow up as such.

Quote#5 Does anyone think "Alien Earth" will deal with the aftermath of Covenant?

No.  It seems pretty clear at this point that it will retcon it.

Wait what? Has this been revealed before? When was this being planned?

Not long after the film. Don't recall it going beyond a concept.

Looking at the themes presented in Romulus perhaps the Engineers have been using variants of the black goo to upgrade themselves. Those present on Planet 4 may be their original incarnations and those in Prometheus may be the upgraded kind?

If it's their home world there doesn't seem to be many of them on it.

Also how would an advanced race be able to be tricked into allowing a ship piloted by an android to carpet bomb them with the goo?

Only way I could explain it would be that it's a backwater outpost but not the home world.

So the guys who let their genetic weapons facility get overrun also let themselves get trojan horsed and bombed?  Surely not!
