She didn't really have a choice.

They weren't chosen for being arseholes, they were chosen for being good at what they do.

I think P2 is the more entertaining film. I find Predators to just be okay, Adrien Brody is probably my favorite thing about it, I felt he nailed that role.

Far better than The Predator though. Thats a film I never plan on watching again.

SiL

Predators is the Jaws 2 of the franchise. It's not bad enough to hate but it's not good enough to love. It's a'ight. It's fine.

Nightmare Asylum

Yeah. Predators is just kind of there. On paper, it's conceptually a really cool stab at what a Predator movie could be. In execution, there isn't really anything blatantly wrong with it, per say. It's just... going through the motions. I can watch it, and not hate myself while doing so, but it isn't a movie I ever have a particular itch to check out, either. It typically only really enters my rotation if I'm marathoning through the movies in advance of a new one coming out, but I never find myself just sitting down at night and randomly deciding to pop in Predators.

Also Lawrence Fishburns character really kills any momentum or good will the film has going up to that point.

I don't blame the character so much, but yeah, it is right around the time that he enters that the movie totally spirals. Fishburne is cool, and I like the idea of a guy that's been surviving for X amount of time on the planet entering into the story midway through, but... he's dead as quick as he arrives, and after that the rest of the movie is just the three Predators standing around waiting for each of their turns to die.

Why is an IDF sniper a piece of shit?

Or does that go for snipers in all other forces around the world. Are they all pieces of shit?
Does U.S sniper McKenna in The Predator get a pass or is he also a piece of shit?

BigDaddyJohn

McKenna was in a shit movie, that much is certain at least.

Guess the reports of civilians getting sniped in Gaza - or Isabelle's actual backstory- don't happen in the Predator universe.

Carry on.

SiL

Unfortunately the film itself portrays her as the morally righteous of the group, and everyone else is the unwashed filth.

The film is glazing.

The only thing that shows her doing anything really bad, is her motion comic showing her life before she was taken, since she shoots a bride during her wedding.

SiL

Ah! Great, then she was accurately portrayed. SM was right

Unfortunately, that moment is supposed to happen directly before she is kidnapped by the predators, so it doesn't even make sense that she would be acting morally righteous in the movie.

Also to make it worse, the bride was holding a baby in her arms.

Corporal Hicks

While I believe that an exploration of how modern atrocities impacts our viewing of old entertainment could be really worthwhile and interesting, or even speaking to one of the writers to see how deliberate characterisation was (I'd be happy to attempt to make the introduction if someone was being serious), it's very clear that this was not the direction some members attempted to take this conversation. It's also not the topic of discussion of this thread. So I'm re-opening it, but let's get back on topic. Folk are welcome to open another thread to discuss those points as long as they can do so in a mature manner.
