Just a little hopefully fun idea to push some fan interaction and engagement with each other.

My idea is to start a fanfiction, of however length you want it to be, and post it within the month of February.

At the end, the community votes on the best story, and the winner is known to all as being the best for the 2025 year.  If its successful, maybe it continues on next year.

At the end, I will take all of the official entries and make a poll of them so we can vote.

Here are the rules:

1) No screenplays.  Has to be told in short story, novella, novel type of format.

2) Can't be an established work.  I can't go back and dig up any of my old works like AvPGalaxy vs AvP, or Survivor and post it on here.  Got to be new for this competition.

3) It only has to be STARTED in the month of February.  Doesn't have to be finished.  If you have a long story you want told, as long as it starts in Feb, it doesn't matter when its finished.  Obviously the more you have here, the more likely you are to get votes though.  If you only type out a paragraph, most people aren't gonna waste the vote.

4) As long as any part of it is released in February, it counts.  But the longer you wait, the less votes I would think you get.

5) Post your fanfics in your own thread.  Lets not muddle this one up with a thousand different shorts and try to figure out what is what.  This can be the communication thread about any ideas/questions what have you.

6) Let me know official entries here, and I will start a list.

7) Subject matter doesn't matter.  Light hearted, dark, action, horror, with or without the pred.  Up to you.  Obviously if you have questionable subject matter, make sure it follows the forum rules.

Nobody is expecting the next Iliad, so shoot your shot.

This is an idea I thought of for about five minutes, but noticed it was on the first of the month.  Hopefully there is some discussion.

In regards to these rules, if we're going to come back to this thread and notify you we have made a fanfic, I personally feel like we should just attach a pdf in here with that comment, just seems easier than a whole bunch of new threads?

Kimarhi

Makes sense.  Either or would work.

Individual threads might get more visibility though.

I've decided to keep this going through March.  I planned a short entry but didn't plan on IRL things (nothing serious just unforseen) took me out of the running had it stayed just in Feb.

Oh wow, this sounds fun. I'll see if I can throw something together. Do we just include "Fanfiction Challenge" or something in the post title?

Kimarhi

That'd work.

Oh good, because I only just saw this and it's the 1st of March here already.

I think a lot of people don't pay much mind to this subforum so shilling it in busier sections will probably be essential.

Yeah look I wanted to write something but I forgot how fiendishly short a month with two less days than normal feels.

Kimarhi

I forgot I had a whole military training.

Kimarhi

Through this first week of April.  Then I SWEAR I will stop it.

I know this isn't fair for the guys who actually played by the rules.  But I've had a bunch of rando ass real life shit happen where I literally couldn't start writing anything until friday.

I made a pretty good run at it, its been kind of fun, but it is extremely rough for entry.

Well..........we are getting biblical amounts of rain at the moment.  So my story might indeed be cursed.

We're probably gonna have to evac later tonight as water is legit on the doorstep of the crib.  The rainfall looked like (for today at least) it was mostly over but it is now showing to blow up again around 20:00 tonight.  So, I'm most likely gonna have to bounce, and then worry about cleaning up flood damage next week.

We've gotten 8 3/4" of rain in 24 hours, with another four predicted for tomorrow, and that was before the storm reenergizing itself later and is now showing an additional 1 3/4" for tonight (where there was nothing).

So I guess the competition ends when it ends.

Peace bros.

14.75 inches of rain from Wednesday night to Sunday Morning.

Pretty crazy experience.  Got right up to the house a couple of times but it then either had a long enough break, or rained slow enough that the water could drain away before it got in the crib.  Was like a giant water accordion between then though doing that multiple times.

I personally haven't been through anything like that except Katrina where the remnants blew over Kentucky and just stayed (and the city let trees fall into the river earlier the previous years that let water stop flowing).  The house did flood that time.

Major issue was you had to be awake to guess what the water was going to do.  I didn't want to be asleep and risk ruining a vehicle or not be able to clear the house if/when water reached that point.  We almost lost a mower that way because the water kept creeping up a hill and did so quickly enough that the water cut off a way around a storage shed and trapped the mower between the water, the shed, and a fence.  Had to take the fence down to let the mower out.

So every night (the first night was also a major tornado outbreak) you had to stay awake.  It actually reminded me of military bullshit in the way that it happened.  In US Army military training, the opfor always attacks at night so you are sleepy as f**k all the rest of the time.

So hopefully nothing else crazy happens and we can end this thing this week.
