The biggest danger has to be David.  The real villain of the film.

Prequel novel sounds fantastic.  So long as it picks up straight after Prometheus.  I'll read a sequel novel if it's a prequel to the next film after A:C.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. Also nice to see Franco mentioned in the synopsis. I think that's the first real confirmation outside of Franco's surprise in the interviews.  :)

This has actually been on Amazon for a few weeks now. I was talking about this book to someone on a Twitter a few weeks back and I've no idea why I never posted it.  I've shared it now.

Too easy. And David was the bad guy in Prometheus.(to the general public) So thats wat people expect.

Then again... Franco could be, or maybe Shaw turns up and gives birth to Newt because she kissed Hicks in another dimension.

Fck knows.

I'm gonna stick with the art book and whatever docs appear on the blu-ray. In my experience, anything that says 'Collector's Edition' on it is usually pretty useless. YMMV, of course.

If it's unexpected then it shouldn't be David since we all know he's got mental :)

He's not a typical bad guy, though.  If you look at the other human villains of the series, their motivations are pretty clear.  However, with David you don't know.  Like the question if he has consciousness that Ridley mentioned.

I mean, i'd love to think the Engineers might show up in the end and really make a nightmare mind-f*ck out of the situation. Like waking up the colonists just to experiment on them... But we'd never see a film like that made by the mainstream. It'll likely be David pulling a Wrath of Khan type of scenario.

I'd like that all out Engineer/Neomorph/David chaos...but I think it's more probable David has wiped out the Engineers, and become "God" on his own little planet.

Well, yes.  Basically this.  For most of 'PROMETHEUS' running time, David 8's actions were carried out under the instructions of Weyland.   It will be interesting to see how this machine interprets 'freedom' now that it has.   After all, Weyland assuredly states that David has no soul.

Can a machine capable of more than follow instructions truly understand what Freedom actually means?

This will be a very interesting movie.  No doubt Sir Scott is out to investigate what it means to be a free thinking Human Being vs Intelligent Machine with an agenda.  Too awesome.

As for the book itself, 96 pages may seem a little light - but for a lavish full colour production that's being offered any more will drive the cost up.  Call it a 'Collectors Edition' if you like.  It's just marketing hype.  Titan will want to sell boatloads of the book.  Nonetheless, I'm still looking forward to adding this to my library.  I just wish publisher's would stop badging print copies with such superfluous content across covers like this.

Given time, almost anything officially released in print form becomes a Collector's item.

if you observe the way David talks to the crew , I've noticed their questions lack definition and are asked in a nonchalant way

he answers them in the same way and never really gives any definitive answers , like he knows that because their questions lack specificity he answers in the same way , vague and without specifics .

he is a very sneaky robot

I wonder if the cover art is a representation of the creature in the film?

It sure looks like the creature on the poster and it is a bit more fleshy/reptilian like I heard rumored.

It's likely not a 100% representation of the Alien, even if it is based on Stanley. Looks drawn so there's probably some degree of artistic license going off too. I don't think the Alien in the film will be looking that green or white.

Yes of course, that's cool that it could be an artists representation of the creature in the film though.

You're so very right, I don't think we'll ever see the return of the biomechanical aspects of the creature, its been fading for such a long time now, I used to just blame ADI lol. I had hoped that Scott would be the one who would bring it all back but unfortunately it seems he is determined to take us even farther away from Giger's nightmarish vision.

I just deeply hope, that the original´s ALIEN creature and the Space Jockey are meant to be something of an older and more primal source of the species, and all else is an Engineer and David attempt to reverse engineer the stuff. HOPE!

I think they're doing a slow progression of the creature until the other movies get around to tying up the dots to the original film. I'm not much of a fan of the fleshy vibe, but the head and jaw look really nice.

Well, actually, there has always been a tacit implication in the alien series that there may be some sort of connection between the biological and the mechanical.  Many of H.R. Giger's paintings portrayed biomechanical landscapes, and that is where the idea seems to stem from.

How often has it been stated that the Juggernaut looks like it may have been grown?  And yest it is a machine.

In the Rage War series, we have a biological creature of sorts that is creating all manner of machinery.

It's an interesting idea, this mixing of organic and mechanical, and I would say entirely appropriate for the Aliens series.

It's an absurd, check your brain at the door kind of idea.   So yes you're right; that would be an appropriate idea for the sequel to Prometheus.  ;)

How so?  We are standing on the gates of all sorts of possibilities that genetic engineering will hold for the future.  Who is to say that you can't genetically engineer an organism (a plant) to be a chair, or something much more complex?  It's fair game for compelling science fiction.

to the person who addressed an awareness of robots vs organisms: there's a series out there called transformers, you might have seen it?  i kid.  mostly.

But more importantly, as Perfect-Organism stated, if you are familiar with HR Giger and his body of work, you'd know that the "creatures" he created were essentially organic machinery, seamlessly merging mechanical forms with biological organism (hence "biomechanical").  I don't think it's too far outside of the realm of possibilities, especially when the design of the original alien creature had very clear mechanical features (and has always been described as such).

david seems to be playing scientist on this new planet of his, so i can imagine he'd be curious to see what effects the black goo (and its offspring) had on his own kind.

This is from the upcoming Sideshow Alien King statue. Looks like it will go this direction.

That's something I've wanted to see for ages - Alien's coming up from the ground like that. I got a little of it in that big battle sequence in Three World War but I want more. More god damn it!

design does look similar, including the fingers!

Merged with the Official Collector's Edition thread. Thanks for sharing. The artwork looks a little weird. Is it me or does the Alien look chunky?

Yeah I'm not digging the look of that much.

So, is that a variant cover showing the whole Alien or has it been changed?

I'm so confused by all these Covenant behind the scenes books

Wasn't the last one we saw an exclusive brick-and-mortar cover? This might be the standard cover.

Bold claim "Behind the scenes of Ridley Scott's Masterpiece" - Hope it lives up to it!

I love the way the Alien looks btw. The tail, elongated head - minus the cockroach flat back, and hands are so so good.

WHHHAAAT!  That can´t be official. Looks freaking terrible! A Photoshoped catastrophy! Looks like stitched together from random Alien and muscle parts. Hell NO!

I know it, why can't they just hire you for some nice covers? While we're at it, Titan desperately needs your help as well lol, their covers are the worst.

Nah, not talking about me at all. Just an observation that this simply can´t be legit or at least not a final cover. Might be a concept for it. It is not even the Xeno from movie. And for official concept art for the film, it is not of the standard, used to be known from the artists involved in making it.

The Comic Store version is out now. Here's a snap of some of the artwork via Will Robbie of the Weyland-Yutani Bulletin.

I'm about halfway through. It's nothing massively special. Pretty standard interviews with the cast. Some nice stills though which I need to scan up properly. Only real interesting thing I've read so far has been Fassbender talking David's motives for

killing Shaw.

Nope.

So is it looking like the one to get is the 'Art and Making of' book that's coming soon instead of this.

In my experience, anything that says 'Collector's Edition' right on it is usually pretty useless.

So I'm sure I've asked this before, but what actually is the difference between the two?

Between this and the Art Of?
Title: Re: Alien Covenant: Official Collector's Edition

Yeah, seeing as both are apparently about the making of the film.

I'd guess the Art of would be more focused. This one has mainly cast interviews with some bts and concept art. I'll be posting some scans of the images later tonight.

Fair enough.

It all made sense when one was an art book and the other was about the making of the film, but now the art book has changed it's title and is apparently also about the making of the film.

I guess its like when Aliens had those two making-of magazines with deceptively similar titles.

Didn't we hear that when the film's (and Art Of book's) release dates were pushed to May, they ran out of time to interview the actual concept artists? So I suppose they've had to pad the book with 'Making Of' material so there'd be some sort of text.

Pity, I'd have happily waited 'til October for a better, dedicated art book.

Just got this through from Amazon today. Some great behind the scenes pics of the practical Xenomorph suit, but I'm disappointed at the magazine quality paper and the slightly streaky print marks on the some of the images; particularly the pics of Daniels on pages 33, 80 and 97... any one else have this issue?

Agreed on the paper stock quality. A beautiful hardcover and then they go use a real crappy glossy stock inside.

He kills Shaw because he's afraid that she'll leave him. In the 'Art and Making' of book it says that David has a strong attachment to the things he loves.
