To be honest most of the acting was pretty poor, hence I didnt really care for everyone. But the only people I didnt want to die were Weyland, Quinn and mabye Lex...
that was one thing i hate of avp, i didn´t care about no one :-\ the acting was so poor, so fake...
Max. He was very underused and had a lot of potential.

Not so. Most of the actors were good it was just they weren't given much to work with.
I cared about the aliens and the predators. ;D
I didn't care for anyone. They all were just random human fodder for me. The only one I maybe slightly cared about was Weyland, and that's because I really like his Bishop character from Aliens.
Instead of caring for the humans, I wanted characters like Lex to finally die.
Didn't care about a single one of 'em. Some I downright loathed.
I was pretty upset when they killed off Salmon so soon. I thought he would've made a good main character.

That's what pissed me off about Resident Evil. A badass military man and he gets reduced to cubes.
Looks like Anderson has something against him since he directed that movie as well.
Didn't care about any of them, nay, some I wanted dead already.
I only gave a damn about Weyland...cause c'mon, it's freakin SCI-FI legend Lance Henrikson.
Weyland, because it's like ShadowPred said, it's LANCE HENRIKSON, and I hated how he had a chance but blew it. :(
Oh and Quinn, because he was slightly developed.
I also didn't want the mercenaries to die so dang fast.
Thinking about it again, I kinda liked the short haired blonde woman. She was kinda cool.
Yeah she was, and she was the second one to be killed... :'(
More like the 15th...
He may have meant the second character that actualy had name. Quin died, then rusoeau (sp?).
All the characters I liked died:
Weyland- lance henrikson!
Max- tough "I'm gonna kick your arse" guy
Quinn- died while covered in snow! I thought it was a homage to predator at first.
that blonde chick... Rusoeau? (SP)
Yeah thats what I meant... ;)
Weyland for sure; Henrikson played his part pretty well. Other than that, I was pretty much rooting for the monsters.
The only characters with any depth to speak of (which wasn't much) were Weyland and Lex. The scene where they talk about Lex's dad was quite good, unfortunately Weyland was knocked off before he could develop further and Lex was otherwsie utterly boring.
The only other characters that had potential was the relationship between Miller and Verheiden and their role reversal when they're trapped. Unfortunately the setup for this was utterly f**ked up in the editing room, and the audience was cheated out of any payoff when they're both killed a couple of minutes after being trapped.
Everyone else - Exposition Boy, Hot(ish) Blond Chick, Nerdy Guy With Crush on Blond Chick, Cool Black Guy, Gruff Mining Guy - varied from one-dimensional to forgettable Alien/ Predator fodder.

Can it even be called a setup? Sure the first time I watched the movie I expected a payoff, but was one EVER intended or filmed? I agree it is cheating the audiance.
As far as I know, there was more dialogue scripted earlier on the Piper Maru which starts Verheiden's antagonism towards Miller (and ended up in the novel). Granted it wasn't great dialogue, but there was something more character focused than what ended up in the film, and might've made more people actually give a shit. About Miller at least. Verheiden is an arsehole through and through. He just turns from an arrogant arsehole into a wussy arsehole when they're trapped.
Had they lived longer Verheiden may have developed some respect for Miller and therefore showed more depth as a character and we might've cared when he carked it
Now that is poor writing from Anderson. Actually giving character to the characters, he did not.

I wanted to see more of Adele Rousseau, Agathe de la Boulaye's character...
Usually, in 90-minute action movies, the characters don't usually get a lot of character...
In a movie called 'Aliens versus Predator', humans take a backseat because, although they are needed to make us identify with their ordeals and stuff, the movie is about the clash of these two formidable creatures, NOT the humans...All they'll do is look scared, flee, and die...
In AVP2, the same will happen, even less, because in a horror-like movie, all they do is...
...(U guessed it)...
...Look scared, flee and die... :D
There is nothing more to it in a movie like this... I actually like when the villainous among the group buys it, like Carter Burke, or Spt. Andrews, or Wren... Can't beat the adrenaline rush there, guys... ;)
I don't ever expect these crossover movies to have character depth... That is the main difference between these AVP movies and the Alien and Predator ones...The other franchises had it all: character depth, story depth, budget to acquire good, solid actors,...
Maybe the Strauses will be the next James Cameron, David Fincher or Ridley Scott and we sure need more of those...! 8)
I want Grid the Queen and Mr Weyland to live.

The leads should and often do. Just not in this case.
Indeed, I really loved that beaker stuff from the novel. Another reason I perfer the novel.
Anderson did actually write all that into the script.
But wasn't in the final film so...
I know they filmed it though.
Yeah I'm just saying it wasn't the hack that is Cerasini.
It was the hack that is Anderson.
Gimme Anderson any day.
Indeedwah.
Sadly.

Rousseau was soooo under used in this movie. I had watched some of Agathe de Laboulaye's work and tbh she's such a good talented actress.

Her line about condoms always brings a smile to my face
Not much character depth in this movie but I liked Weyland, Lex, Max, Miller, Verheiden and Rousseau
The first three had more screentime to slightly develop. Max for example cared about his men and questioned Weyland what they died for. He wasn;t just a mercenary.
The beaker thing does get a brief mention in the expanded edition, where Verheiden catches Miller playing with a vehicle, he tells Lex to keep the beakers away from the equipment. Verheiden character does show that he basically all bravado and starts losing it when things go wrong. Dude had the worst fate in the movie too.
Unfortunately there is not much to be said about Adele, but she did bring a gun just in case there was trouble, she was smart enough to know the corpses weren't killed by heart removal, and she tried to do something about the doors closing even if it failed. After that though, everyone in the chamber lost their common sense.
The movie could have done with maybe even just 10 to 20 minutes extra time to flesh the people out a bit more or even add cool moments to make them a bit more memorable. For example, Adele should have killed the facehugger coming for her, maybe shot another that was attacking someone so we could see the acid kill or would them and while she is shocked seeing that, another facehugger gets her. Given that was six people with seven eggs it would work.
