Earlier this week Neill Blomkamp shared a new image on his Instagram account of an Alien sculpt from Amalgamated Dynamics Inc, saying how much he enjoyed working on Alien 5. ADI’s Alec Gillis has since regrammed the image with some added context and credits!
Repost from @neillblomkamp who allowed us to play in his ALIEN5 universe. Happy he's letting you all see some of the design work we did. There's no doubt in my mind you would have loved what Neill had planned.
Project supervisor @h2.originals. This sculpt is by @monsterman03gmail along with @monstermania2017 and @ayumi.fx . Molds by @jon_k_miller with tech work by @saratheterra and Brian Clawson. @paulkomoda had a hand in other design/sculpt on A5 too.
The sculpt shows a lot of influence from H.R Giger’s first Alien but with a noticeable second set of arms, much like the Alien Queen. While we don’t know much of what Blomkamp’s Alien 5 would have looked like, we know it went under the codename of Red Harvest.
Frequent Alien series concept artist Carlos Huante previously shared – and then took down – some concept art he did for the project which showed a lot of mutated Aliens, many of which also had two sets of arms.

This is such a tease. I had such high hopes for this film.
Why do you think it has a second pair of arms? Perhaps an alien host with four arms or maybe it's a juvenile queen.
Surely one day the script gets a leak at least.
If he isn't going to do Alien 5, why he is teasing us so much?
P.S. Sorry for my English. I'm Ukranian
Just sharing what work was done. Personally, I'd rather see all the work that effort was put into rather than it stay hidden.
Interesting
When I first saw it I thought it was a custom NECA figure, didn't realise it was actually a design from Alien 5!
It certainly looks very classic, even down to the "spike" at the top of its back. Given that the original concept art that appeared to show the Derelict in the custody of Weyland-Yutani and the aforementioned Carlos Huante pics, I'd imagine at least part of the film would have dealt with WY experimenting with Alien genetic material a la William Gibson's Alien 3 script and coming up with mutations like this.
A shame we'll probably never get to see it actually realised, but at least these occasional glimpses at what could have been are nice.
I'm still hoping this gets made....would LOVE to see how his story plays out! If not in film, then I want to see a comic, in game form or even a novelisation of his script....that would be so cool to read!
...."what if Big Chap looked sillier?"
And now we have the answer.
Literally just big chap with 2 xtra arms.
Brilliant redesign.

Agreed.
Sadly whether the film ended up being good or bad, we'll never know.
I truly nope Dark Horse continue with the alternate Alien 3 (2.5 or 5) script adaptations and take on this one sooner than later.
you know what, I'm still hoping he will be able to make his Alien 5. I reckon after RoboCop Returns and if that is successful he will be given the chance to handle the Alien IP..
How many alternate A3's are there as it is?
ACM
Aliens The Original Comics Series
William Gibson's ALIEN 3
Vincent Ward's ALIEN 3
Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 3
?
And not one applauds the accuracy ADI displayed in this sculpt?
No shit. That is one fine, bad-ass alien. Umm-um.
I prefer Isolation's take on it.
Perhaps they were going the route of the 'Big Chap' design being a precursor to the 'Queen' and this in a step in that transformation.
I LOVE IT
It would have been interesting to see an updated big chap in new a film. Not digging the extra arms though.
This posses me off coz Blomkamp is a talented filmmaker his ALIEN 5 would be been bugnuts insane ((not sold on the return of Hicks as 2 generations of fans do like A3 & A4. Plus if love to see Blomkamp take a turn in a AVP film or even a PREDATOR film.
That looks awesome! This movie is taking on legendary status. I hope it gets made while Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver are still with us and willing.
Thought Neill Blomkamp was confident the project would never see the light of day?
I have to say Blomkamp's team got the proportion of head to body much better than the Covenant team did. Maybe they intentionally made the head disproportionately smaller to the alien body, but it ended up looking a bit silly at times.
Perfect-Organism took the words out of my mouth.
While I loved ALIEN-COVENANT the creature effects and the design were the worst part of the movie. The inferior "unfinished suit with added CGI overlay" just didn't work for me and looked creaky rather than "creepy".
The lack of practical effects in COVENANT was probably caused Ridley Scott shunned Amalgamated Dynamics cause they worked on his arch rival project AVP and AVP-R.
I still hope they make ALIEN-5 but again no Ripley or Hicks or retconning ALIEN 3 or Resurrection. Bring in new characters that channel the dynamic but are different.
Blomkamp is making a mistake beating that dead horse that is ROBOCOP. Come on no-one cares about "Reaganomics" consumerism, social disorder or gentrification. They are more lifestyle choices now than fears.
Scott had practical Aliens on-set created by a talented effects company. The lack of practical effects in the finished film was him not thinking they were as effective as the digital versions.
Somehow, I doubt any of Ridley Scott's choices are consciously influenced by AVP or AVPR.
There's a combination of spectacular practical and CGI effects in the prequels.
I'd go as far to say there's not a shot in Prometheus that fails on a technical level.
I don't know what happened with the CGI for the Aliens and Neomorphs in Covenant, but they had practical references to begin with.
Odd Studio's work was spectacular. MPC's creations on everything but the creatures is remarkable.
I enjoyed the design of the "Protomorph" myself, it and the design from Alien Isolation are the top contenders for my own preference.
Odd Studio's Egg and Facehugger design blow all the previous versions out of the water for sure.
Said it before and I'll say it again... We would have had the most biomechanical realisation of the Alien since the unused Superfacehugger model.
Love the extra limbs; they're properly in proportion. Suspect this was meant to infer an evolutionary new Queen/adult genetic mutation. Kind of wish we'd finally get a proper return of the original ridge-headed design, but we knew from the concept art that wouldn't occur. Looks like an attempt to recreate the dome-skull was being done.
If this was ridge-headed, it would have probably become my most favourite design. :)

How was it a rival when it was already made years before? And why even hire a company in the first place if you're going to be petty-minded enough to somehow 'punish' them at your own expense?
Look back at the live interview I carried out during Alien Day with Conor O'Sullivan. He said the intention was
always to 100% replace any practical creature limbs, etcetera, with CGI. That was the plan from the very beginning, according to him. They used a lot of 3D printing to allow them to create things on demand, but it was always only ever for gauging how light interacted with it.
Of course, we know from a later interview that Scott is under the belief that '
Aliens' somehow featured CGI creatures in it (back in the eighties). Presumably, that's what made him 100% CGI creature effects would be the course to go.

Yeah I know right? I can abide by the extra arms for that alone. No weirder a cosmetic difference than Isolation's Big Chap digitigrade legs.
(Although personally I would save features like that for a transitional young queen/praetorian but whatever).
The skull is back! Local Trouble would not approve.

An extra set of limbs is something completely different to the digitigrade legs, c'mon now.
This rendition looks like an action figure, I can't applaud it when I've seen the same design done superior in 2014.
People bitched endlessly about the inclusion of Ripley's daughter before the game came out. And there were much caterwauling and gnashing of teeth on these 'ere boards when the digitigrade legs news broke.
In the end the game turned out fine and barely anyone complains anymore. The same would have applied to anything Blomkamp did. He could give the Alien two heads and bring back the entire Marine squad from the dead, if the movie was great all would be forgiven and he would be toasted as a capital fellow till the end of time.
People on these 'ere boards still complain about the ridge heads.

I really dont want to see anything from the original 4 movies story again.
New story, new cast. A few easter egg refrences are fine. But leave ripley alone. She gets shoe horned into so many things.

Goofy my foot. If your Mom disappeared on a spaceship mission and you had the means to pursue her last known whereabouts and flight recorder, would you take that chance or would that be too far-fetched for you? By the same token, had Alien 3 not happened, and had Ripley survived, it would have been totally plausible that she would have taken up the fight if she found out that W-Y found more aliens. She was ready to nail Burke, right to the wall despite him being an ostensibly powerful figure at W-Y. There was definitely another great Ripley film in there somewhere that should have been made, and still can.
If you truly have a solid story there's no need to include Ellen Ripley.

No there isn't. Her story is over and the third movies bleak ending is the only logical conclusion for her. Even the original Alien had a bleak ending with her floating off into space. Maybe to be rescued maybe not. When Alien was made, the term sequel was never in mind. They were taking a huge chance making that movie and we're afraid it would be a failure. Which obviously it wasn't. The only reasons people wanna bring her and the annoying kid back is because they are incapable of thinking of a story without them or have some fanboy dream of having a Aliens 2.0 movie. Leave her, Hicks and the kid dead. A story of Ripley taking on the corporation and becoming and alien hunter through the galaxy sounds stupid and a bit like a Saturday morning cartoon, and less like a legitimate film. Stop reducing what were once films, into hollow shells of themselves called franchise movies. That's all Bumkamp's movie would have been.

Neill had a story without Ripley done, he added her after speaking with Sigourney while filming Chappie. In a world where Halloween, Terminator, and RoboCop are getting true sequels 30 years later, Alien could've easily been brought back for one

It would be better with the daughter/son of Dallas or Parker or anyone else in the Nostromo crew. Ripley's daugther just seems like an excuse to redo Ripley without Ripley but still being Ripley.
Great, more fanboy geek crap...happy his movie didn't get made. Where do these idiots get these stupid ideas from, what's wrong with the original perfect Alien.
But noooo I want to add 4 arms instead of 2 thinking it's cooool...
Eh. Original Big Chap with second set of arms? Why even bother with the alteration? Not to be negative, but I haven't been a fan of what I've seen from this project and frankly relieved this didn't get made.
It would have been nice to see where this could have gone, may be the ship in the concept art is anther ship found and could of supplied the eggs for 'Cold Forge'. Mutated Aliens trapped in an instillation with gigantic sized sets and only Hicks and Ripply stand in there way of getting out!!!
What's not to love about that.
Hope we get a novelisation of this someday, the more the merrier for me.
What's next for these fanboy nerds, 2 headed Aliens?

The amazing thing about the Aussie-morph is that it feeds on pizza with egg. Also, it has shapeshifting powers to disguise itself as the delivery pizza boy from AVP Requiem.
Terrible idea this second set of arms.
Besides the extra pointless arms, it looks pretty good.
Why is everyone hating on the extra set of arms? I think it looks pretty creepy and cool. It's an ever so slight change on the original design, be grateful when you get something unique but not over the top.
I'm sure there would have been an interesting lore explanation in the story anyways.
Yeah it's pretty pointless hating on the extra set of arms when no-one here knows the context behind it.
Anyway, what will we call this new Alien? Big Chappie?
Big Chappie! Love it!
How long have you been sitting on that one?
What would be great is if the new xenomorph continually mutates limbs to adapt to the environment or to it's threats. Like as we saw with the previous post a few days ago, an alien with arms for legs is an interesting idea as well as also sporting the extra arms.
Let's say we get a new Alien film where the evolution from chestburster to adult comes from a variety of sources and we see it slowly adapt to a able-bodied crew who can fend against any threats.THe new alien changes with every new location, every new skills the human has, every new weapon be it flame or bullets.
By the end of the film, we never really see the true adult alien, only just a variety of smaller sized versions during its' evolution.
Add it a set of balls and another head and merge the franchise with Resident Evil for the fanboys.
Nostromo, you're being unduly disparaging of "fanboys". ::). To what end? Where's the fun in that for you? Fans keep these franchises alive. You make it sound as though being a fan of the series is a bad thing. If so, why bother coming here? Coming to a site like this is the definition of being a fan. So what does that make you?

No "fanboys" destroy franchises. There's a big difference. Like Aliens isnt that great of a moive. It just has a lot of loud fanboys who can only want to see any new Alien movie as Aliens 2.0 or they trash it. Or fanboys who cant let go of cool factors of the movie and think thats what made the movie good to begin with. If they had their way they would have everyone in a f**king power loader now upgraded with guns, fighting not one but multiple queens and more garbage like that.
Let's add something new:
Let's say in the beggining of it's life cycle, it is just a small orgnanism like a the size of a mouse and it essentially starts off as cute as a small rodent.
The human crew experiment on it endlessly to until they realize it starts to evolve due to its' mechanism to survive. Eventually it becomes more bio-mechanical than organic, thus we see the ultimate killing machine evolve. It then becomes something similar to the xenomorph and rapidly becomes more adaptive. EVentually it gets loose and infects a human and exits like a chestburster. ....Slowly growing like a spider, then shedding, shedding itself till it like a simian. Growing limbs like hands, it eventually becomes bipedal and human like.

That's not how franchises are destroyed. Any if those elements could be made to work well. It is always fundamentally a question of poor story / storytelling and then execution. Throwing in 2 queens and multiple power-loaders just for the sake of spectacle would probably be doomed to fail. If it serves a good story, that is another thing.
The "perfect killing machine" wouldn't evolve.
Perfection doesn't adapt, because it's perfect.
Realistically a perfect organism would be one that can freely adapt to changing environmental conditions.
Quite.
"It's adapted remarkably well to our atmosphere considering it's nutritional requirements."
Then the thing is a perfect organism. I knew it. :D
As for all this fanboy business, if you like something, and want to see more, then you're a fan. So everybody here is a fan of some aspect of the franchise. Some like the original formula, some like colonial marines and smartguns, some like AI's and the prequels. Who's right? Who could be right?
Let us not assert that fanboys could or ever will be responsible for anything. The studios are going to make the movies they hope will turn a profit. It's nobody else's fault and there's little any of us here can do about it. If a new film comes along and it's chocked full of powerloaders and queens, blame the writers room, not each other, I say. There's already alittle something on the table for everyone. Watch what you enjoy, avoid what you don't. That's how I'm surviving the prequels. ;D
"I have confirmed that he's got an outer layer of protein polysaccharides.
Has a funny habit of shedding his cells and replacing them with polarized silicon,
which gives him a prolonged resistance to adverse environmental conditions."
The creature already has, arguably seven limbs- additions of non-malleable features beyond that only hinder it's movement unnecessarily.

Keep in mind that its only the opinions of Ash and David that it is perfect. In actuality it is not, but that it is not to say it isn't a hardy and dangerous SOB, because it is.
I'll agree to disagree.
A parasite is not the perfect organism, it requires another life-form to survive and evolve, therefor it suffers from a dependence on others.
Those extra arms just look stupid
All life requires other life.
The discussion is philosophical.
An AI organism which performs its' function to such perfection- it wipes out all other life.
& Leaves behind it's "seed" to recycle the process when life rises again.
Perfection? No?

James Cameron's/Stan Winston's alterations to the adult design suck IMO (Although it's perfect for the hive environment.)
I do not hate every alteration over the years though, love everything else in Aliens, Alien³, Isolation and yes- crucify me;
but the newest variations on the Egg, Facehugger, Chestburster or "Adolescent Alien" and Adult.
I don't see this as a final version or something we see dominant in the Alien 5. If it is then its not really all that impressive. Its basically the original design plus the other arms. I don't see anything different.
I like it.
It's the logical step in the life cycle if the one in the picture is on its way to becoming a queen. We might have seen a "Praetorian" in a movie and that would have been great.
Four arms as an inference of the adolescent Queen I appreciate, I don't appreciate hot-gluing them onto Big Chap.
The idea's execution I dislike, but not the idea.
I won't give up hope of seeing this movie come to fruition. :)
I hope Neill Blomkamp does.
A thread like this has no choice but to devolve into like it/don't like it, love it/hate it.
The problem with Ridley's prequels is that he tired of his beast, grew bored with it. Maybe there really isn't anywhere left to go. The visual language is fleshed out, the nature of the Alien universe is known. Yet, there might be room for well-told stories there. The problem with Blomkamp's proposed Alien 5 might be that he is too in love with Aliens. To me, Ripley, Hicks and Newt should stay cold in their graves.
Ridley made his movies, and they are what they are. Blomkamp hasn't made his movie, but a lot of the concept art looked promising. This ADI piece is interesting. It seems pretty obvious that everyone involved with Blomkamp's proposal has great love for Giger's original design. I doubt a Blomkamp Alien(s) movie would be truly great, but I would have liked to see it.
This is not a coin flip, there's others capable of creating Alien films beyond the two aforementioned Directors.
Other excellent creatives.
I like it!
You could argue the Alien is molting which would explain the extra arms. It looks scary, and more HR Giger.
Aside from the arms, there's nothing remarkable about it IMO.
This though...

Fanboy I meant as in someone who goes all giddy for anything new that comes out. Even if it makes no sense, has nothing to do with what made the franchise great, as long as it looks cool and woooohoooo it's awesome, same idiots who praise AvpR and all that total shyte.
Maybe just let people like what they want to like?
We must not, under any circumstances, allow people to enjoy things unless they are also the things we enjoy.

All fandom contains both what you call "fanboys", fans that find levels of excitement & enjoyment in most everything related to their fandom... and pretentious fans, fans that consider themselves a universal decider of what should be loved or shunned. As part of a large community, neither should be referred as "idiots" in my opinion.
But before one criticizes "fanboys" , it's important to remember we all have some level of bias in our criticism. And most of us have our handful of "guilty pleasures" in film, literature, even music too, where we recognize various faults... yet, the work still connects to us enough to find enjoyment in it. It's always best to keep that in mind before criticizing one's fictional source of personal enjoyment.
It would be disgraceful to allow people to enjoy something based on their own personal sensibility rather than what the going consensus is. Everybody must get in line and conform! :D
Still cant believe we missed out on this for more Prometheus garbage, sigh......

I loathe people using fanboy as some sort of insult and it's not something I like to see thrown around like it's being spat with venom. Enough of it.
Agreed, everyone registered is a fanatic to a degree.
Well fan is short for fanatic but in fairness, some of us are more rational and objective than others. You have some of us that can objectively criticise a movie, book and game, even if it has our favorite monster in it and you get some that will absolutely love the worst movie/book/game ever just because it has their favorite monster in it.
Though they are entitled to their opinions, its not good to get into a debate with someone who refuses or is actually incapable of being objective and looking at things both ways, a lot of nasty arguments come from that. I can understand why some would call them fanboys even if its done with the intent to insult, because in many ways "fanboys" (and I mean this in terms of the unobjective, entitled, think the franchise belongs to them kind of fans, and not simply the overly passionate hardcore fans) really do ruin things for others. They can make forums a nightmare and they can be particular venomous towards those who worked on the projects, simply because things didn't go their way.
The way I see it, being a fan of something doesn't mean you have any rights towards the franchise nor do you get to put down others. We should instead be united in our shared love for something even if we have different interpretations.
Back on topic, I doubt that Alien 5 or Alien 3.2 will be made anytime soon and as much as I didn't like the direction Scott went, I want to see him finish his trilogy, see where David goes and put a definite end to it.
Finish the prequel narrative R.S!

For those feelings, I have been mocked for my opinion in this very forum, on more than one occasion. I have no qualms with people disliking the film, or expressing their dislike, but we all should welcome a fan environment that allows
all of us to express our views without condemnation.
And one general note regarding "AvP Requiem". While the film sits with a lowly 11% positive critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, that does mean 11% of critics enjoyed the film enough to give it a fresh rating and a recommendation... and among those recommendations were Variety and Entertainment Weekly. So if someone here likes that movie, more power to them.

Lol I didn't want to Google that at work.
At this point, as much as I loathe the idea of retconning A3, I think Blomkamp's film - AND BRINGING BACK RIPLEY - may be the only hope of saving this franchise.
Im thinking with the sure success of HALLOWEEN 2018, and the return of Sigourney's good friend Jamie Lee to her iconic role as Laurie Strode in that franchise - which is also retconing it's sequels to bring her back - that BLOMKAMP knows there's a shot of reinvigorating interest in his story, given the recent Disney/Fox merger, and his ROBOCOP appointment.
That DISNEY/FOX merger will be finalized starting January 1st 2019... btw.
Could the BLOMKAMP/ RIPLEY storyline be ressurected as a Television series? Would that work? I dunno.
If it's a passing of the torch to Rebecca Jorden and then it ends up being a series following her, it will have saved nothing. IMO
I'd rather wait fifteen years for another completely new story than have the franchise become what Star Wars is now,
which Alien will if it's successful in bringing back fan favourites- the series will become nothing but that,
and aping the popular entries that came before.
I'd genuinely rather have nothing than that.
Anthologies FTW.
Isolation effectively passes the baton from Ripley to, well, Ripley (Jnr), and apes a popular entry in the series, and people love Isolation (you amongst them! ;D)
Baton-passing and nostalgia can be used very effectively. Not saying Blomkamp's would've necessarily, but conceptually, it's not an inherently untenable idea.
One daughter is enough.
Even then Amanda Ripley's encounter and fight against the Alien had a motivation and correlation that made sense.
Granted, it could've been anyone's descendant looking for their parent gone missing on the Nostromo.
But it works really well because of the pretty seamless extension of Ellen Ripley's transmission.
Retroactively I think it makes the arc of the first three films all the better.
I don't really see what requires a retcon of A3 or what Rebecca Jorden offers that isn't doable with a new character.

I don't think so; I really do believe that NB was channelling Dr Sam Becket off of Quantum Leap and was just setting right what once went wrong. I think his AL II ENS would have been a one-shot, torch-passing and setting the ghost of Rippers and Hicks to rest in a satisfying way (as most would have it, I don't want to get in to the whole "But 3 was perfect" thing again). I don't think after that movie, we'd see more of Rippers and Hicks - I think as has been said that Newt would have carried on the fight.
Also - if there ARE further Alien movies in the offing, wouldn't Fox be worried about "confusing" fans (or underestimating their audiences as Corp Hicks said!).
I reckon the proposed TV show WON'T have anything to do with anyone we know, but will heavily reference them and nod and wink for all its worth to ground people (that's my guess - I can't see them setting it post Resurrection, but you never know). I can only imagine this'd be in the "classic" era.

I'd deleted your first attempt at posting this for a reason. Granted, this one is less insulting but it's still wrong. People are entitled to their opinions, even if they differ to yours.
Im not wrong. I maybe abrasive at times and extremely opinionated, but the truth is if even 10% of people like these crappy movies they been pumping down the pipes using the Predator IP, then the studios will continue to make them. But i guess there's no account for taste huh? I dont think its wrong to expect more than some watered down, marvel influenced, shoulda been direct to dvd predator movie. The ground work was laid with the first two movies for them to make something that doesn't need to jump the shark. Special needs kids reading alien languages using their ailment as super power? Seriously? Thats a big part of the plot and people eat it up? Its offensive stupid lazy writing. Thats just one of a movie which is nothing but a grab bag of crap like it. Next thing on the list to be in the movies im sure is to bring in big titted predators because people cant seem to drop what was a deviant art flap-drawing and move on. These arent even films anymore. They are cash grab summer movies.

Well fan is short for fanatic but in fairness, some of us are more rational and objective than others. You have some of us that can objectively criticise a movie, book and game, even if it has our favorite monster in it and you get some that will absolutely love the worst movie/book/game ever just because it has their favorite monster in it.
Worst movie/book/game defined by whom? See this is where the blade shows its sharpness on both sides, the "fanboy" who likes everything and the "pretentious fan" that expresses condemnation towards fans who like certain output.
I enjoyed "The Predator". I am rational, well spoken, realize there are many faults with the film's execution (especially narratively) yet still found enjoyment with the film. For those feelings, I have been mocked for my opinion in this very forum, on more than one occasion. I have no qualms with people disliking the film, or expressing their dislike, but we all should welcome a fan environment that allows all of us to express our views without condemnation.
Having the minority opinion doesn't make someone's opinion wrong, it just simply means you're in the minority.

Welcome to Hollywood. Yeah, it's bad. But what can you do? I'd say to vote with your wallet, but we're stuck smack dab in the digital spectacle/one-liners age of film, and unfortunately, it's what alot of people want and like right now.
All we can do is wait it out, and hope this style gets so old and boring that the industry is forced to change before we're all old and decrepit. But with each new marvel character bringing in big dollars, and the Chinese market on the rise, this could go on forever. Best buckle up.

It's interesting. 8 movies deep and not once has a director tried giving us the original xenomorph again. Strange isn't it?
Not really. People often don't like repeating themselves or others.
Even Giger didn't like the dorsal tubes and sought to improve the design by removing them on Alien 3. Plus the Wolverine claws and Michelle Pfeiffer lips.
One Director, Creative Assembly's Alistair Hope.
& Even then it's refined design.
We may never know if Blomkamp's film would've been good or not, but it surely would've been better than what we got with the "prequels". Prometheus/Covenant are bad not just because of the plot holes, ruining of the lore, bland characters, unrealistic character actions, etc, but simply because the very IDEA of a prequel to the first Alien film is a bad idea. Alien should've never had a prequel. Not everything is supposed to have a deep mythology/backstory/cinematic-universe, and in fact, Alien was designed not to. The first Alien was a small/self-contained story, and Prometheus tried to be this grand epic philosophical movie answering the question of the meaning of life etc, something that was never a theme in the Alien movies, all while being ASHAMED to be an Alien prequel. Ridley clearly wanted to make a non-Alien movie with Prometheus but I guess figured tacking it on to Alien would sell more tickets or something. I genuinely wonder how many "casual" viewers saw Prometheus in theaters and didn't even know it was supposed to be a quasi-prequel. The alien popping out of the stupid blue guy's chest at the end probably just confused them lol.
No one should actually want to know/see the backstory of the f**king Alien/Space Jockey. Because then it takes away the mystery and turns it into just another stupid cheesy movie monster, something the Alien was always above imo. Aside from all the sexual metaphors, the Alien is also just supposed to represent the unknowable cosmic horrors that could await humanity in the black uncharted vastness of space. Giving it a backstory (especially one as stupid and bad as the one given) just defeats the whole purpose. At least the AvP movies were self aware enough to kind of know that they were corny disposable non-canon popcorn flicks. But the "prequels" want to be taken super seriously and god its just so so bad smh.
I want an Alien movie that isn't a spin-off or prequel ffs. There's a literal 200 year gap between Alien 3 and Resurrection, do something there. Or just stop making them at this point. We've suffered enough.

Yeah I know, there's people out there who actually liked the prequels, boggles my mind lol. Regardless, I think I made some good points.
A majority of people liked both films.
"We don't know if it would've been bad, but even if it was, it wouldn't be as bad as the two other movies."
Come on.
I think Alien 5 would have turned out to be a pale imitation of Aliens at the very best. It has way too much to live up to, in peoples minds and to the legacy of Aliens - there's no way in hell Blomkamp's Alien 5 would not disappoint everyone on some level. People are sore now because it's not being made, but I guarantee even if it was made, these people would still complain because it's not in line with their own ideals. Plus, Fox would probably view it as a HUGE cash cow for them especially considering its links with Cameron's film, which only means a lot of studio nonsense.
At least the prequels tried to appeal while bringing something different to the table.

I must say I agree with this sentiment. Regardless how one feels about the prequels, Alien lost much of its potency when Ridley started trying to explain its origin. For Alien to be completely effective, it needed to retain its mystery. (The same can be said about H.R. Giger's art.) That's when Alien was at its terrifyingly best, something it has now lost with the existence of the prequels, in my humble opinion.
Alien lost its potency when Giler and Hill couldn't figure out what to do with Alien 3.
Not surprising since they didn't even want to make it.
To be honest, I could live with a movie that incorporated a little of both, with enough room for at least one, intelligent and well-armed reptilian warrior on the hunt.
Ugh, this was in response to someone who asked if the real fans wanted armored power loaders or crazy androids.
No room. IMO

Disappears as in "quits the business and sells fast food for a living" or "The kidnappers have sent another toe"?
Great to see that old Big Chap design again.
Not sure about the second sets of arms though. Depends if they give a explanation for the deviation in universe or they just did it to do something new.
On second thought it does not feel right. It feels redundant on the creature. And something redundant without use does not fit with the "perfect organism" angle. Maybe it is a young queen, the arms resemble the second set of arms on her.

This. I don't think it's supposed to be the final biomechanical creature yet. It's just the prototyp David created with the resources he had on planet 4, so it makes sense that it's a more organic version for now.
Also not a fan of the extra arms. It's just....why?
My argument is that we don't know if this is how he planned on all of the aliens looking or if this was supposed to be an individual that was on its way to becoming a queen. If we find something out that contradicts that then I'll probably change my opinion on the design.
The A5 design makes more sense than the protomorph looking as fleshy as it does, or the fact that its chest burster...comes out as just a miniaturized...version of it's adult self....god I hate that scene.
I do actually like the way the face huggers looked in Covenant, just not the whole gestation time issue.

Protoqueen was also the first thing i thought about when i saw it. But its literally just the arms on an orherwise unchanged Alien. Sure we don't know if the second set is the first thing an alien changes on his way to queendom, but for me it does not look like a queen to be.
And while the chestburster scene was a little wacky, no two bursters looked ever the same. The runner in A3 was a miniature version of the adult and the queen in A3 had arms and legs if i remember it right. And the gastation time always seemed pretty random.
Each to their own, I love the Chestburster scene.
I was a little harsh with my original post, but it just seems to me to be the original with some extra arms. I'm all about going back to the biomechanical look of the original, and ADI's execution of that look is utterly flawless. But there is sooo much to work from/with even with the original Drone alone in going about redesigning or reimagining the Alien, and it still being... well... an Alien. Even this shows that is the case, but to me it just feels rushed, when going about reintroducing the Alien to the audiences should be a process with some real effort put into it. I think Alien: Covenant is a fairly strong example of this (barring the horrible chestburster scene, sorry Old One x: ...), I mean, the Alien wasn't scary, per se, but it holds up as simultaneously being an Alien and a sufficient redesign.
Not to mention redesigning the Alien for each new film has been a tradition since 1985. I just think they should go even further, as Cameron did. As ADI did in Alien 3 and Resurrection. And as Haunte did for Covenant.
Very good stuff. I don't think this's a Queen, because Queen has three fingers on second arms, and here - four or five.
