Just saw a new preview during the NBA finals.  Showed in full force the Super Pred.  This preview was much much better.

I can't find the trailer anywhere.  Where can I find it!?!?!?

Looks like Black and the boys pulled the wool over everyone's eyes on this one.  Nobody saw it coming.  No pun intended.

To even show the Super Pred full out...wow.

There's a crappy snippet of the trailer posted on someone's Instagram but quality is kind of too subpar to post here. It looks like they actually have money shots though compared to the teaser.  They need to hurry up and get this on youtube!

The Upgrade is not that bad. At least, from those two images. The face looks pretty good. Looks better than the Supers form Predators, that's for sure.

Chad the Lad? What the hell man. Well maybe it'll grow on me but I am surprised at how good the film looks. The other predators seem smaller than usual though. Is there a reason for that or is it just better materials and techniques.

The upgrade will probably be CGI for most if not all of its screentime. Its just strange to see a giant cgi predator. Could have been a lot worse though and im sure the cgi will look great by the time its in theaters.

Ths movie looks really good though, pretty pumped now. Looks like ADI did a lot better with the practical preds this time. Mandibles looked pretty good in that video.

As you say guys, I expected much worse...especially if we look the leaked script that said the Upgrade is more 'humanish'.
Now, I think the face is more 'predatorish' than 'humanish'. :)

I'm curious to see his weapons...the ion blaster and the projectile arrow weapon.

Now that I gave it some thought, upgrade ain't that bad. It does makes sense that it would be wearing an umpires chest protector for his crotch.

In any case it could have been so much worse. Noticed in the trailer that it appears to move like a beast more so than a man.

Hey, that's an awesome predator face.  The mandibles look really good, best from ADI we have seen so far.

ADI do good work on their predators, even Scar.

It's never going to be exactly like the Stan Winston ones from Predator 1 and 2.  That's just how it is.

Chad is a good name, let's christen it Chad.

While i disagree that everything about AvP was trash, i think youre right that scars face was just terrible. (Not just the design of the face, which was mandated by the director, but the effect itself looked bad/fake)

Im really impressed with ADI's work here, maybe not perfect but it looks cool and it looks better design wise than anything since P2

If you have not read the early script then I dont't want to spoil anything for you but check the answer:

Spoiler
The Upgrade (the one that slams the other onto the car) is the film's big boss. He won't appear almost at all until the 2nd part of the movie. The other Predator called the Captured is the one you saw on the Empire's picture and in most of the trailer. He is captured by the humans and he eventually manages to break out the lab.
There will be 2 other 'friendly' Predators who will appear towards the end of the film.

The Captured arrives at Earth on a separate escape pod in beginning of the film. The ship you see in the trailer is called The Ark and it's the Upgrade's ship. He will have some really interesting surprises onboard. ;)

The 2 friendly Predators are on Earth by the time when the Captured arrives with his escape pod, however - of course - this will be turned out later on.

If we're goin by Urban Dictionary's definition of Chad it fits him perfectly.
QuoteA stereotypical douchebag asshole/jock/frat boy/ with an ego the size of the planet, who needs a swift roundhouse kick to the jaw, ala Chuck Norris style (though if actually issued by Norris, this punishment may be too extreme, even for a chad). Basically, they think they're the best at everything, love to talk shit, and are a general nuisance in every way possible

CHAD, THE MAD LAD (the one that slams the other onto the car) is the film's big boss.

Man's swole AF, tho! Size of that bastard!

Trailer is much better. The teaser was just that, it would seem - a teaser.

Feel a lot better having seen this, TBH - even if I don't agree with 'GM Preds'.

I like what the actors are doing, might be fun to watch them.

As for Chad... didn't we have enough of this upgrade stuff in Predators? Why would they just rehash it and literally just make it bigger.

Well well well, look at almost everyone starting to having hope now for this movie hahahaaaa :P

It was way better than the teaser, the captured face looks good enough honestly, an agressive look that's what i want ! He looks really cool when he's showed wholly, when he holds Nettles it's a f**king great shot ! The upgrade, or maybe Chad from now on lol, looks great too ! f**king savage ! I didn't think they would show him this early !

Is this the official thread of the new trailer?

Still doesn't seem to represent the tone of the film. And I'm glad Chad looks like a Predator. Still dislike the genetic mutation idea, I don't care that this is a new direction and nothing in the original films says this couldn't happen. It doesn't suit the established Predator lore in my opinion. Seems more like a superhero idea. You wouldn't even need other DNA to make yourself bigger. BUT seeing that Pred ripped through the window was pretty cool.
Oh and I liked the Masters of War song being used.

So they pretty much took the super predator concept from Predators and pumped some aes and gh into it.

It`s kind of how Jurassic Park went... the third one had a bigger threat kill the previous bad guy, then the forth movie brought a genetic mutant version of the original bad guy. The Predator seems to be going the same route.

But it feels too much like those comics full of crazy concepts... what's next? A four armed predator? Human-Predator hybrids? It's not as bad as what Ridley did in Covenant, but lately the directors and writers seem to only having the worst ideas for the next movies.

I just hope that they really follow Jurassic World end and have the classic pred win over this cursed chad.

Yeah, kids not in the trailer.

Let's be clear though, the kid himself is not the problem. For example I have no problem with Newt in Aliens. She's a kid in an adult situation and fits into that accordingly. It's how they misused him in the teaser, and ultimately how they will use him in the final movie. If he is still the autistic wunderkind in the final film, that's a huge tonal problem for a Predator film. It does not fit. Square hole, round peg.

When I read the leaked script, all I could think during Rory's scenes were. "This would be great... If it were in Stranger Things." Because it would totally fit to have a character like Rory in Stranger Things. It does not fit a Predator film in my mind.

Visually the Predator's have been robbed of some of their visual interest, and have been ever since SWS stopped doing their costumes and effects. I would have loved had SWS been involved with The Predator.

However I will reiterate that I like the look of Chad. He still looks like a Predator, just bigger and more feral, and thankfully they didn't give him some God awful "human" eyes.

Quote from: Jacku on Jun 09, 2018, 03:21:28 PM

Yeah the big issue here is that, although Hicks said that Black has indicated it doesn't apply to all Predators, all of the dialogue in the film that I have read pretty much indicates that it's a species thing. "They" this and "they" that.

Captured Predator is classified as "good" in the script. Relatively speaking, anyway. He kills some dudes who get in his way, but he's after something.

This scene with Nettles doesn't exist at all in the script, which is really cool, knowing that they add a lot more (the captured pred slammed on a car wasn't either) than what was intended to be in the first draft is great ! I can't wait !

What doesn't look good about it OBJECTIVELY?

The overall visual style is very bland and generic. Lot's of grey, silver, chrome. Muted color palette. Looks rather dull to my eye.

Conceptually there's still a lot that can go potentially wrong here.

The characters, the actors playing this, will likely elevate the film.

I was waiting for the official trailer release before I commented. Although I appreciated everyone who let us know about it last night.that phone footage was a little rough. Which is to be expected.

I liked the trailer allot, I think they could have avoided showing the upgrade. But, trailers these days don't seem to bother trying to keep surprises before release. Granted most fans read the leaked script or watched videos from those who have. However, your general audience haven't. Which is why the reveal at the end kind of bums me out a bit.

All that aside? I think this is the trailer they should have released originally. It built too something with the upgrade at the end. I think had this been what we saw released after all that time. People would have been less harsh on it. Especially general audiences, who get a bunch of action scenes with two different predators shown at the end of it.

Of what I can see, I like the upgrades design. Yes, it's reminiscent of Stone Heart from the Concrete Jungle game. But, it's still enough of it's own design that I can dig it.

By the way, I refuse to use the name " Chad ".  Any name derived from a 4chan meme is garbage.

How about the fact that it looks like a high end tv movie for one? It looks and feels like a God damn Syfy miniseries, right down to the awful cgi rendering of that idiotic "Upgraded" Predator you FAKE Predator fans are all so excited about?

Wat. How does using human dna makes a predator 10 feet tall? It should make the opposite. The hell is wrong with Fox? People can say what they want about AVPR but the Brothers Strause prevented Fox to make a predalien that use predator weapons, at least they had a little idea of what the fans would hate and seems to have been more faithful to the lore than Covenant and now this one.

I suppose that's what it is in original script. I heard of some reshoots, that there have been some changes in the last part of the movie, so maybe that could be it. Otherwise it's already worse than Predators. Now it's about if it will at least be better than the avp movies.

I actually liked that game's bad bloods but this upgrave is way too tall, Stone Heart was just an above average height predator, there were shorter younger predators in Concrete Jungle too, having been tortured and brainwashed by humans, their concept was done much better than this dna mods thing.

OBJECTIVELY Shane Black is a hacky tv director who never moved past his tv comfort zone. OBJECTIVELY Iron Man 3 was nothing but another mediocre superhero movie. OBJECTIVELY Nice Guys was a flop that nobody saw and nobody cared about. OBJECTIVELY Shane Black's only other claim to fame as a creator is Lethal Weapon. A venerable film no doubt, and one that Iron Man 3 and Nice Guys don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as LW but a movie that came out decades ago. Your Boy Black hasn't shown a lick of competence even close since and he never will again!

OBJECTIVELY this movie will FAIL on every conceivable level and this franchise will be buried deeper than a racist Mickey Mouse cartoon, and to head off your canned fanboy "crystal ball" remarks I don't need psychic powers to smell the stink of a turd. I see what I see, and I'm not wearing fanboy goggles.

The classic Predator looks spot on, i really think this movie will be a blast. My only worry i had with this movie, the Upgrade, has now vanished, he looks like a real monster and staying true to the design was the right choice.

I really dislike this roided out, godzilla looking CGI predator. However, I'll give credit where credit is due, that at least he still looks like a predator and not some mish-mash of other alien features to make him "cooler," at least from what we've seen so far. And I liked the trailer overall. I dig the song choice, the editing is much better, and it's far more captivating than the original teaser!

Well, it looks like the first contact scene. And it's not the gauntlet used by the upgrade. So this thing just latches onto him or something? The predator appears and attacks them, then he ships the stuff back to his kid maybe? Either way, it looks to be captured preds gauntlet.

I hope they don't pull some angle where Predators upgrading or injecting human dna has allowed humans to interface with their new technology. District 8 already did that.

Spoiler

In the original script, our lead dudebro get's a mask and a gauntlet. He sends the mask to a safety box which he didn't pay the bill on or something so it get's shipped to his son.

He holds onto the gauntlet, though in the script it's called an orb or something. It allows him to cloak and evade capture by the black ops dudes that show up after the predator escape pod crashes. Both pieces of equipment come from captured.

When Captured busts out he raids an armory that the mercenary dudes have filled with Predator gear.

He was a dear friend and a valued member. We don't like to talk about it.  ;)

Thought I saw him again yesterday, alas, twas just a bush.

Also, unless I misinterpreted the question,

"The meaning of the name Chad is From The Warrior's Town. The origin of the name Chad is English. This is the culture in which the name originated, or in the case of a word, the language. Originally a nickname for Chadwick in the U.S. And is also the name of a country in Africa"

Unless it's referring to the male virgin terror people, who have been in the news lately. Chad for them I believe, is a reference to any guy that's gettin' him some, while they're not.

The new trailer is good but it's more action driven kinda to makeup for the less action in the previous one. I personally would have preferred more suspense less action for the build up Predator was all about suspense you didnt know what was going to happen next. The upgrade Predator I feel should not have been shown in the trailer maybe he will bring further surprises in the movie who knows. Now for the icing on the cake I just hope Henry Jackman does justice to the music score, bring on that pounding music from the first 2 movies and all of us will be happy :)

So that was a much better trailer - technically a TV spot according to Fox. I reckon they probably got that out there to counter the negative response from the first trailer. Loving the short bits of chemestry we saw. I think the Predator designs look pretty good so far.

Kinda disappointed they showed Upgrade this early on but I'm digging him. Glad they didn't go crazy with his design. I'm getting a City Hunter vibe from him actually. Also liking the red of his skin. Reminds me of some fanart I once saw.

Have to say I'm more excited about the human cast rather than the Predators themselves.  The trailer was a massive improvement to the teaser, but the lack of jungle/tribal vibe still has me disappointed.  The Chad also reminds me of a gym bro - not feeling that design!  But the Captured looks rad.  I'm thinking it could be female.

As much as I like Predator 2 it's not universally liked. The first Predator is the only movie this franchise needs, every part of the ingredients to that movie was the right place right time. The movie is a perfect mix of everything; director, story, actors, Stan Winston, KPH...

P2 pulled much of the same trick both AvP-R and The Predator seem to be trying: placing the threat in a more familiar setting.

P2 although was largely based on scenes from the Predatoe comic book series, some scenes almost being 1:1.

I would have prefered a more intimate story with more suspense, but at the same time I hope this opens up the franchise for more different kind of Predator films.

I liked this second trailer far, far better than the previous pne, but really don't like how they ruined the only twist they had.

That was such a hackneyed cliche at the time, the conceit that in just a few years the world was going to turn into dystopia. Everything about the film is ridiculous.

That was such a hackneyed cliche at the time, the conceit that in just a few years the world was going to turn into dystopia. Everything about the film is ridiculous.

A couple years ago I actually made a cut of the movie that toned down a bunch of the sillier stuff and followed in the footsteps of the first film.

Make it like a real cop drama. Contemporary LA, drug trafficking... All that can stay. Just tone it down and make it more true to the real life situation.... And don't show off the Predator so soon. That's Predator 2's big problem I think. They literally show the Predator right off the bat. No build up, no anticipation, just BOOM. Predator vision, cloaked Predator running around, Predator slaughtering the Jamacins and revealing itself pretty early on. And what are we cutting back to? Characters that are completely clueless. Outside of Keyes, and Harrigan who tries to actually do some police work, everyone else just seems to stumble from scene to scene going "HUH!?" "WHAT?!"

Now, you look at Predator and it is basically an 80s military action movie at the start. Aside of that opening shot of the scout ship we don't get any indication of the Predator's presence until 15 minutes in... It's the faint sound of it's tusks clicking, the skinned bodies of Hopper and his team. Then we start seeing it's heat vision, and it isn't until over 30 minutes in that we see the Predator's hand in it's own vision. We're over 40 minutes in when Hawkin's bites it, and we're fast approaching the hour mark when Jungle Hunter is actually seen, even then it's restrained to close ups on his injury, hands, and equipment. The timing of that reveal coincides with the fact that we are now aware that this is an extraterrestrial and it is a life form (it bleeds). We're being shown that this isn't just a beast, but a character in the story.

This movie is really warming up on me. After so many bad predator related movies, i am willing to accept something this wacky so long as its executed well and entertaining. Upgrade looks pretty cool and way better designed than what we got in predators (2010)

Because Chad is known as Bad Chad. He's a bad dude.

There's some kind of a battle going on between different Predators. The DNA augmentation thing is at the center of it all. Basically he juices too much and the other Predators don't like it.

Why does this feel so cheap? I'm thinking back to Shane Black saying "we won't do this unless it's a big 100 million dollar movie" ..if it cost that much it must have gone on the catering or something.

Yeah, not going to lie the rumours, coupled with the synopsis and the first trailer had this one down as a complete turd. It's amazing what a good teaser can do though, the tone looks right and the actors look spot on. Interesting we've not seen much of Thomas Jane though.

Totally changed my mind on it.

Based on the earlier draft (which this still seems to follow pretty closely), it's definitely a very funny movie that tonally goes a lot of places and in different directions. It's also super violent and full of action.

I'm a bit more of a fan of Shane Black and Fred Dekker's work than the Predator franchise - though I love the original film a lot - so I really don't have any issue with those guys' idiosyncrasies in a Predator film. But many people will. It's not gonna be for everyone. As I said a year or so ago, some people will despise it. Some will love it. It will be an Iron Man 3-type reaction. But I'm all for that. It beats a safe movie, which this definitely is not.

Spoiler
I'm even disappointed Rory apparently isn't going to fly the ship anymore. ;)

Judging by the new trailer and the first one, seems all the leaks are true, which points to the movie being complete trash.

Why can't we just have ONE predator movie that actually revolves around, you know, having the pedator do predator stuff? None of these stupid "enemy of my enemy" gimmicks. Oh and to top it all off the jurassic world stupid ass idea of a superior bio-engineered predator. It's the god damned super T-Rex all over again

The 1997 of Predator 2 is neither post-apocalyptic or dystopian.  They just played up the direction they figured everything was going, that things would be a little dirtier, a little more dangerous, and that gangs would be running riot.  Cheesefest and cartoonish Jamaicans I'll give you though.  ;)

So about the complaints regarding the mandibles,  if you pause it at the right spot you will see that the bottom mandibles damn near close together. And yes I agree (in this particular scene) doesn't "appear" the mouth and mandibles have a lot of articulation.  But if you remember the black and white photo of the captured that released some time ago showed the mouth wide open. So there is going to be some serious articulation there, and the mouth will close similarly to the original.  Before I get blasted, I am NOT comparing to the original,  just saying that this is going to be the best illustration and the closest ADI predator face we've gotten so far.  Give it a chance, you are going to be surprised.  Also at the end of the trailer (don't know if anyone pointed this out yet) but between the captured pred's head softly jerking and the upgrade's mandibles chattering, it appears as if they are having a conversation.  Interesting.

All this talk about mandibles makes me want a mess of chicken fries.......with bbq sauce.....yea...

@skull splitter , yeah I know what you mean bud , but it's clear as day that they based the design around that figure , which is pretty lame imo , but what ever I can live with it , it's not as bad as I feared , and it ain't the end of the world. I do think the cgi used on the upgrade looks very district 9 looking and needs cleaning up a bit. Maybe that's just me though , my best part of the trailer has got to be the captured predator barging through the wall , that looked totally legit and powerful. I also think it's curious that there's no sign of the friendly predators in either trailer , could it be that they decided to cut it from the film ? Or are they trying to hide that element from marketing , because they don't want the inevitable fan backlash ? As for the kid not being in the trailer , I don't know why fox are trying to now hide him, does everyone forget how well newt was in aliens ?  ;D

As someone who has not had one good thing to say about the film so far and remains skeptical, I think that trailer was pretty good and a lot better than anything shown so far. At the very least Boyd Holbrook comes across as a good lead and the Predator always needs a worthy human foe. The whole hybrid/Indominous Predator well it's a novel idea by the standards of the universe at least, I think now I'll give it a go and hope it's good.

I mean really I shouldn't be so judgemental about it. I enjoyed Predator 2 for it's occasional goofiness and I liked Predators a lot too. Just don't be shit and I'll be fine. Alien Covenant was crap and I felt it sitting in the theatre, if this movie doesn't give me that feeling, it's done its job.

Fans criticized Predator 2 for not being like Predator 1. People said that Predator doesn't works in a city settings or hunting cartels and cops. Predators was criticized for not being original and too much like Predator 1. Fans just can't seem to find a middle ground. This new one feels like mash up of all three Predator movies.
Also I don't see why people acting like a Hybrid Predator ruined everything. Don't Predators come from huge planet of thousands of different cultures and societies and tribes or something? why do all predators have to be identical?

Funny how they completely cut out the kid in this trailer

Also we can see Holbrook with a predator wrist gauntlet on his arm at 0:45

And at 0:34 it looks like dual wrist blades, not single... I don't understand anymore lol.

you made methinking and I checked the pic when the pred shoots the wristblade at sg.
it seems to me that it's not in the middle of the gauntlet like in predators, so I assume the first was shot at sg. before. So I guess this one has double wb, not just one.

I think btw the design is good. I mean overall design. The mask is a bit too fancy, not tribal enough for me, but the whole is nice. I miss the trophies on the body, but to be frank, what in the first movie was so appealing for me the mixture of opposite feelings the environment and the creature created.

Like there was the tribal feeling but also the whole creature wore some type of metal armour and mask and backpack which was totally not fit for the jungle, yet the movie could make one believe it belongs there. For me it was the acting most of all that pulled it off. The gestures and body language. Not the (actually best of all time-for me) suit and looks of the creature.

"Fans criticized Predator 2 for not being like Predator 1. People said that Predator doesn't works in a city settings or hunting cartels and cops."

Who said that? They must be retarded, because bringing the hunt to the city is the most logical step to make and exchanging jarheads for criminals make sense too.  The predator just wants to hurt t dangerous quarry.  Doesn't care about the setting of the preys moral compass

"Alien Covenant was crap and I felt it sitting in the theatre, if this movie doesn't give me that feeling, it's done its job"

I dont know if I am slightly dissapointed or not with the fact that I expected the Hybrid Predator will look more unique. I mean, he is just a bigger Predator, so far without any details of his face-head-body itself, it really looks just like a regular Predator, but only much bigger and stronger. As I said, Im not entirely dissapointed, at this point Im more than glad that this trailer is just much better than the one before, but still. . if "they" using the DNA of other species, shouldnt they just look different? In fact, its strange that using DNA made you only stronger and bigger, I think that it should change also the whole look of Predators (Berserker reference). Yes, if they decided to made Hybrid different enough, there will be still some sort of risk with it, the different design for him could ended up being really bad, so I will rather see standart face design instead of totally new and bad one. I hope that CGI of this Hybrid will be convincing as much as it could, this will (for the first time) be the first digital Predator on our screens. I hope that Hybrid will kill a lot of people in the film and in the end die by the hand of classic Predator or something, I still demand a proper revenge since the fight between Berserker and classic in previous film. Oh and gore, we need to see a lot of violent moments.

Yes it's a highlight for me too, badass stance at the end ! And badass stance for the captured pred too when he holds Nettles by the hair ! For me it was kinda reminiscent to some stances the city hunter had in P2, really cool.

Yeah I'm wondering how Nettles gets out of that situation! lol Definitely reminiscent of City Hunter's stance.

I love all of Boyd's lines so far too, the highlight was The Upgrade grabbing the Captured Predator through the window!

I like the attitude Boyd's bringing to his character, at least based on the few lines he's delivered in the trailers. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

This scene with Nettles doesn't exist at all in the script, which is really cool, knowing that they add a lot more (the captured pred slammed on a car wasn't either) than what was intended to be in the first draft is great ! I can't wait !
I think we're gonna be pleased with this movie, considering the blacklash of the leaked script

I dont understand why that Predator grab that human with red jacket up so high, wtf? That is wrong, just look at that picture here and tell me that its okey, he cant have such a long arm. Judging by the picture, it looks like he grab him by his clothes, not by his neck or hairs. It looks just weird. . that human should be a little bit lower, well only if this Predator doesnt have one arm longer. Judging by proportions it really doesnt fit, I feel it.  :-

Upgrade looks f**king badass. I was a tiny bit afraid that he would be too filled with unnecessary shit, but they kept him a simple, gigantic, savage Predator. I love that. I expect to see more cool details once we get a better look. This trailer was way better than the other, even if shorter.

I'm really intrigued by that shot of Casey seemingly naked in some sort of chamber.

I agree. They did basically did what they should have done with Supers. It actually looks like a wild, savage, Predator.

The descriptions in the script were all kinds of awful.

I agree, I'm really liking the direction of the upgrade design. I think the spider predator concepts had me envisioning them going with a taller and linky design for the actual upgrade. Something menacing looking but also sickly in appearance because he took the DNA splicing too far.

The actual design seems very badass though. Who's to say that they can't get that large on their own without the whole DNA nonsense? Maybe they'll hone in more on the internal affects the splicing has which could make it all feel a little less out there.

I was also wondering the same thing about the shot of Casey. Was she in the shower? Looks like the plasma laser goes over her face.

Well, pretty much everything that was in the leaked outline was what was in the script, but that was plenty...

Basically; Ten feet tall, human eyes, smaller mandibles, "his skin IS HIS armor(OMG)."

Honestly it pretty much made it sound like the Predator equivalent to The Newborn. He didn't even feel like a Predator whenever he showed up in the script. Even the Bad Blood or the Super Predators felt like Predators in their respective appearances.

So at least visually he feels like what the concept is trying to convey and still remains truthful to the Predator look. That, i'm happy about.

Spoiler

Something that gave me flashbacks to the Salerno AVP:R script, he lifts Captured over his head(wrestler style) and literally rips him in half.

And in terms of screen writing he basically just walks through the other two Predators. They don't put up a fight. Nothing. They're just gone. Boom. Literally five minutes after they are introduced to the characters in this scene which is goosed up big time. It feels like it's supposed to be this bad ass introduction to the Loonies help, but instead they just get ganked.

Which, again, just like with Predators, or Jurassic Park 3, you don't murder Coke Classic like that. Also, those two Predators just didn't feel like Predators to me. They have their little translator matrix thing and one of them basically says "We're screwed." Which didn't feel like something a Predator would say at all.

There's a reason the audience I was with for the first Jurassic World was f**king ROARING with cheers when the ol' girl showed up and started f**king up indominous's shit. That's what we want to see. ... Granted, I wasn't big on the raptor and Rex giving each other high fives, but... That reveal was brilliant and that entire battle was intense.
[close]

The weird thing about the reference to the mandibles is it basically says it's owed to the DNA meddling... Yet the SOB is ten feet tall. I mean, correct me if i'm wrong but as a matter of course Predators are bigger, faster, stronger, and physically more durable than humans as a general rule... So how did human DNA make Script Chad biggererrer and baddererer...

I mean, it seems like they've altered the script a little bit so it's more akin to these particular kind of Predators that are partaking in this DNA stuff are juicing everywhere they go, which is causing them to become freakishly sized and such... But they really shouldn't benefit from us in anyway.

Spoiler
We have yet to see any indication of the Predator dogs, or the half-breed mutations that Upgrade let's loose.... And I really really really hope they got rid of them entirely because they read absolutely awfully. I like the idea of the Predator hounds because they absolutely fit the hunter tone of the Predator mythos... Spider predators, and multi-limbed predators and... yech. No.

They could create some new creature entirely that is the result of Predators messing with gene splicing... Or what a great way to reuse the old side ways mandible Predator creatures and have them release half breed orc-Predators that make for a good cannon fodder thing, but... SPIDERS?

By the way if you're reading this and have not been one of the few to read the script, that's not an exaggeration. They're called spiders in the script. All I can imagine is Anytime's head on spider legs. Reads awful.

You know I was really hoping the leaks wouldn't turn out true, but here we are with a rehash of the Predators side-plot with super predator.

It was bad enough that the first trailer made it seem like the kid was going to play a big part in the story, now we also come to the reveal of the super predator being the actual big bad and the classic predator being, once again, just fodder to show off how cool and badass the new predator is.

It's been almost 30 years since we last had a Preadtor be the actual antagonist of his own movie. Ever since then we've had this stupid rehash of "predators are there doing their thing but a bigger bad comes along so now predator must join forces with the humans to take down this baddie"

You know what the worst part is? AvP:R was the last time we saw classic predator actually accomplish something by himself by taking on the predalien. Imagine if in Jurassic World the classic T-Rex had just been stomped on by the I-Rex within 5 seconds of appearing on screen

But as for how quickly the Upgrade plows through the classics, this is extremely disappointing to hear. Really hope they've added more in for at least the captured predator against the Upgrade. Please don't tell me captured is killed off right after getting smashed into the car!

Just once I would like for the actual Predator to survive at the end of the movie, I hope that is one of the things that changes in the third act but I doubt it at this point.

You mean like JP3? And then they tried to fix it with the forced, eye-roll inducing Rex appearance at the end of JW? Yeah, let's not give us what we think we "want". Give us surprises, take risks, give us new. DON'T listen to the fans, we aren't right. I'm dead serious here. I wish fandoms would try new things. I completely understand not wanting too much of what we love changed, nerfed, or misrepresented. But Predator has so many possibilities with it's universe and character, but we keep getting fed the predictable, because its what they think the fans want. I am very excited for this film, and I hope it pushes for new, and not what we want.

Why are people so fixated with the kid? Has everyone lost their minds and forgotten how good newt was in aliens ?

Also the upgrade injects DNA from all manner of alien species, who's to say the aliens he was hunting were not bigger than he was ? Predator 2 clearly shown in the trophy room that they were hunting things far more larger than they were.

Also I can see from the comment below that apparently it's just a rehash of predators ? Like wtf iv read the script and still have it and it is nothing like predators , sure it's taken a few elements from it , but it has from all of the films , the whole point to this film was to branch the universe out and make it richer and worthy of follow ups and to make it more cohesive, I'm sorry but the ten little Indians concept gets old fast , something had to change , personally I'm glad black took risks and injected new material into the franchise , and judging by the trailer I think this is shaping up to be blast. It could even potentially outshine predator 2 , and considering that's my favourite in the series , I'm incredibly excited by what was shown in the trailer yesterday. It just feels right to me. The predators look cool, the balance was there , the tone felt right and the action looks badass. All the core ingredients for a decent predator film imo.

Well as cheesy as it was I loved the t-rex coming out on top in the Jurassic World battle and even loved the team up between the t-rex and the raptor (granted JW2 seems to take things even farther to the point where I think I'll just wait for the dvd).

Spoiler
If the captured predator were the one to actually come out on top that would be something new and unexpected. Seriously if human characters can actually find a way to defeat the Upgrade then why the hell can't an actual Predator do the same? Have it so that the humans think the captured predator is dead but, just before the credits roll, have the camera follow a trail of green blood to the captured predator and then cut to the credits

Well, it's not the same thing. As I've said previously, Newt in Aliens is a child in an adult situation. She's treated as such. It's all the adults doing the heavy lifting. Yes, Newt helps Ripley find a way through the vent maze, but she's never The Chosen One. She becomes Ripley's sole motivation to do what she's doing for the third act of the movie.

Let me put it to you this way.... Imagine Ripley is the one under the floor dodging the queen and Newt is the one driving the power loader.

That's the difference.

Spoiler

In the script. Upgrade see's Rory as the ultimate upgrade.

Not his dad. Not any of the loonies. None of the military guys he's faced.... Rory, and it's basically because of his Spectrum Super Powers.

This is why I say Rory would fit great in Stranger Things, because that's the kind of setup you expect from that show. A new kid who's autistic, but gifted, ends up saving the day. That does not sound like something fit for a Predator film at all. It's cutesy and a little too nice and wholesome.

You're right. So at least it won't be the narrative equivalent of The Upgrade breathing on the OG styled Predator.

I still imagine it's going to be, basically, a curb stomp. The last shot we see in the sequence of events has Captured crouching before Upgrade. Very likely about to get his Predator sh*t pushed in for good.

Openmaw what makes you think the kid in The Predator is not a kid in adult situations ? The power loader doesn't make much sense , I understand what you are trying to say but the kid got sent the alien technology, he didn't have a choice in the matter. He was put in a situation he didn't understand by the hands of adults around him , The adults in the The Predator are clearly protecting the kid and doing the heavy lifting, Olivia munn is shown protecting him.  🤔

That's a far superior trailer compared to the first, nice. I'm also surprised they showed the upgrade so early but I imagine it's to excite people who knew nothing about it and also calm a few fears from those who knew about it but thought it'd look too outlandish.

Two things I noticed: the boy is in this trailer, but only for a split second. He's on the left of the frame when Holbrook is looking up saying "then come get us" or whatever it was.

Also, weird detail. The Middle School sign behind the characters at the end says "Halloween Haunt 10/30 Welcome Parents & STDS" lol. Not sure why it caught my eye, but that had to be intentional.

The Wolverine Predator ... exactly! He was put in that situation by an adult, it just so happens the kid is gifted. But it's not like he is picking up guns etc and becoming an action hero. The way openmaw is implying , so the Newt - Rory connection is very similar indeed, they were both put in adult situations out of their control by adults.

No, you're right the power loader wouldn't make much sense.

That's how The Predator was originally scripted. The kid is a big deal. Like, he's pretty much the main character, big deal. He's certainly the most important character.

In the script:
Spoiler

Deciphers Predator language. Rain man style, this becomes a big deal going into the third act.
Makes use of a mask-mounted plasma cannon.
Flies Predator space craft with Casey in toe.
Is seen by Upgrade as the ultimate DNA catch.

He's probably the most proactive character in the story.

People liked Newt because she was cute and had spunk and mostly stayed out of the movies way. Ripley, Hicks, Burke, and Bishop moved the plot and story forward.

Openmaw the entire third act was reshot, isn't that telling you that things have changed since that script ? judging by the trailers Quinn is now the vocal point of the film, the way things have started to go , I'm not paying to much attention to the script , it's super old now and frankly barring the premise I don't really expect the film to resemble the script that much , sure certain events might still be there , but overall the feel of the trailer has clearly shown the tone has shifted since the days of the old script.

I still think it's strange that they would show the upgrade before the friendly predators , barring the APC scene there's no sign of them at all , I'm wondering did fox decide to drop them from the film, and just use the APC scene for promotional value , and it won't actually be in the film ?

Yeah maybe... If they were to be used as written in the script they wouldn't serve much purpose in the movie, they don't do much to say the least. Maybe it's for the better if they drop them ? Never had a big interest in those two, the highlights are clearly the upgrade and the captured pred.

Yeah BigDaddyJohn pretty much my thoughts too , it was the one element I hated , so I really do hope they have been dropped, certainly looks that way at the moment. Friendly predators were never a good idea in my opinion , ... yuk!  :-X

@The Old One , you can bet your life that Neca will be all over this film , the predators , hounds and spiders in many variations, especially if the film is a commercial success,  even though they have only announced the upgrade to be expected around October  , I expect them to go all out next year. It's too much of a money maker for them. Pretty sure the predator line is their longest running line too.

This looks very good compared to the first tralier. Like the look of the captured predator can't wait until neca gets around to making a figure of him.

They really have to make a figure of the predator the upgrade slammed into the car.

I wouldn't think they'd drop the two friendlies, simply because

Spoiler
It appears that much of the original script is the same, in which case captured bites the dust pretty early on in the movie.
[close]

If that's what happens, then it would basically just be Upgrade as the single Predator throughout most of the movie.

...On second thought, I guess would make sense, since he is "The Predator" - he is technically supposed to be the star of the show, Predator-wise.

It was bad enough that the first trailer made it seem like the kid was going to play a big part in the story, now we also come to the reveal of the super predator being the actual big bad and the classic predator being, once again, just fodder to show off how cool and badass the new predator is.

You think so? It seems like the classic predator will have more to do in the plot than just being slammed on a car.

QuoteIt's been almost 30 years since we last had a Preadtor be the actual antagonist of his own movie. Ever since then we've had this stupid rehash of "predators are there doing their thing but a bigger bad comes along so now predator must join forces with the humans to take down this baddie"

Think about it, in what specific way were the "super" predators in RR's 'Predators' superior? They felt like every other predator except they looked a little different when the mask came off. Point being, there was never a time in the film where it felt like the protagonists were dealing with a creature that wasn't a predator. So in my opinion, a predator was the actual antagonist in the movie.

QuoteYou know what the worst part is? AvP:R was the last time we saw classic predator actually accomplish something by himself by taking on the predalien.

What did Wolf accomplish, really? The predalien would have been killed with or without him. His primary mission was to contain the infestation, not only did he fail but he also let a human make away with his plasmacaster tech.

QuoteImagine if in Jurassic World the classic T-Rex had just been stomped on by the I-Rex within 5 seconds of appearing on screen

I didn't read the script but I doubt 5 seconds is all this classic will have in him. Shane Black knows what he has, he's not going to downplay the capabilities of a classic predator. We already know it slays its way through a convoy or two, so that'll be fun to watch and establish it as badass in its own right. Have faith, bud, it's not looking too bad right about now after that last TV spot if you ask me  ;D

Yeah personally I think the biggest sign they got dropped, is the fact they didn't appear in the APC and the fact the upgrade was revealed first , certainly a strange move, however if they are indeed still in there , maybe they are but they get used as cannon fodder , not the captured ? Also Hollywood I agree 100% , and this is coming from someone who was completely negative to begin with in the earlier days. Honestly I think this film could be incredible for fans and movie goers alike. All the right signs are there imo ;D

I'm glad they are finally giving us new stuff. And I bet if it was in the vein of the originals , you would also say it's too much like the originals.

Why would it look like the original if it doesn't take place in a jungle...?

It can look like AVPR from the little footage we've seen and still have much stronger characters, better action, dialogue, story beats, flow, lighting, and turn out to be a much better film overall. Personally, I haven't seen anything worth getting worried about in these trailers. What were you hoping to see?

That's not really the point though. Filmed and framed to make it look like a curb stomping.

As scripted
Spoiler
After captured catches up with the loonies and Holbrook, it is basically revealed that he is actually a "good" Preddo. Though, the script fingers him as a "good guy" in the first couple paragraphs, during his "escape" from the ark.

Moments after this reveal that Captured is in fact a "good" guy, he is taken out by Upgrade. They would have had to dramatically alter what's happening in the story at that point, and I don't just mean adding in a body slam into a car. That can easily be dropped into that sequence of events, I mean changing what's happening plot side. It's all a big escape, wherein Upgrade gives chase like a Terminator.

IE: There isn't really a spot for Captured to have a good fight with Upgrade. It's going to be a curb stomp, because the idea is once again to show just how dangerous this new version of Predator is.

I highly doubt they are cutting Ally Predators out of the movie, I didn't read the script, but I think they going to show them soon in the trailers, or keeping them a surprise for simple movie goers, who don't know about all this leaked info.

Also I agree with Hollywood that Predators from RR didn't feel superior at all. They tried to make subtle changes and it didn't work for me personally, the super predators from RR "Predators" felt weak compare to first two predators from original movies.

Three predators couldn't handle a group of warriors from Earth, where the single Predators were slaughtering everybody. Yeh I get the point that all characters from "Predators" were bad ass like Dutch and Mike Harrigan, but it didn't feel like it. Also I don't like action scene in the end of "Predators". The fight was Meeeeh.

It's why I don't have problem with the Upgrade here, because Shane does action well, and also Upgrade really look different in the size department, where it's delivering idea much clear that this is Super Pred.

I wonder if the Predators in Nimrod Antal's film all looked like Berserker under the mask or perhaps they were regular Predators that teamed up with this, mutated runt called Berserker because they didn't want to follow the rules.

I'd say considering the Predators storyline is unlikely to return that, that was probably the case. Especially in the light of this new film that paints both Berserker and Upgrade very much as Rogues that have strayed off the path.

The Old One If I am correct I think they all were super preds, because their skin texture(not color, but texture, it felt more thick elephent like) were the same as Mr. Black one, and different from all other from original movies.

So I'm wondering if Dutch has a cameo in the re-worked 3rd act now. Maybe he'll be the custodian at the school, and all this predator infighting is crashing his retirement party.

What a movie that would be, like an R-rated home alone meets precinct 13. Arnold using his tools and climbing in the ceiling to fight the predators and save everybody. He could finish with a great one-liner like, "go flush yourself" or something about "detention".

In the alternate ending a predator would just fall through the roof onto his cake, and he'd run away screaming "not again!".

He could be the old security guard. Together, he and Dutch could team up to save the whole town. Dutch could re-engineer some cool super soakers with predator tech. As long as Dutch gives the Predator an overly aggressive slow-mo double nipple twist when the thing picks him up this time, I'll be happy. He can loose the "Barbaric Yalp" he did in the first one while he's doing it. I could see him being spun wildly on the merry-go-round, being shot at and swung at by the predator, as he slides on his back towards the edge dropping his "oh sh*t" line from where he fell off the cliff in the original.

but they had the classic one, so they could used his molds and skin texture and put armor of berserkers, this way it would be clear the idea that only Mr Black was berserker, and other guys were regulars, but they had three predators with same skin texture and one regular, so therefore from artistic point it's clear implementation that they are all Berserks. But I could be wrong  ;)

Grimtaur this both shots are CGI. Differences because Biceps squished, and from the front Biceps looks different then from the side. Also position of the camera.

Is it just me or does the upgrade predator's arm look 4 times bigger in this pic (which I assume is cgi):

https://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/34755216_1755474134533101_2761693074026397696_o-701x341.jpg

Than in this one (which I assume isn't cgi):

https://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/34984903_1755474077866440_3267880151253254144_o-701x341.jpg

thank goodness the mouth of the upgrade closes! lol it's cgi after all...

also, no camo pants on the dissident predator! or perhaps it had taken them off prior to that scene? lol

hang on a minute openmaw , where did I claim it was going to be a masterpiece? I didn't, I said "I think it's shaping up to be an incredible film for fans and movie goers alike" don't put words in my mouth. You are constantly referring to the script, but the fact is the script is really old now, they reshot and rewrote the entire third act. As for the convoy scene , my logic is that the APC scene has just been used for promotional use only and won't appear in the film itself, why would they show the upgrade first, yes you can make out the predators on APC in the first trailer, but it's incredibly fleeting , almost as if they are being hidden in plain sight. And there's no need to try and put people down who are looking forward to the film and not constantly negative like you.

The draft that leaked was nearly a year old by the time the film went in front of cameras. Who knows how many iterations it went through. And then the third act was very extensively reworked during reshoots. Yeah, the core story seems to have remained but the specifics may not be. People need to stop treating the leaked script was have as the definitive edition of what's in store for us. We've already heard of numerous changes.

Just an FYI but all the tv spot discussions were merged into this one. There were about 3 or 4 of them including the Chad one and some discussion split off from the teaser trailer thread.

"This Film Is Not Yet Rated"   ???

Previously, the rating was confirmed, why not specify that R?  Or just for this TV-Spot it does not apply?

Black is aiming for R but it wont be officially rated until the edit is settled on and it's submitted to the classification board.

To me it looks like Terminator, RoboCop, Alien franchise butchering (You name it) all over again. This thing is full of unimaginative and unnecessary ideas with a very low budget Sci-Fi movie vibe...not to mention with zero atmosphere and again...bigger is better approach with our Hulk Hogan predator. But no surprise here. I am a long time fan and I got burned so many times in this case with the Predator, Alien,  AVP and Terminator franchises...that I just do not care anymore.

+1

It looks like the best of old and new, we have a kick ass classic Predator for the fans like me, and some new and exciting stuff worth going to the movies for the general audience.

That, combined with real characters from a promising screenwriter/director has me all pumped.

I know what i'm talking about, i was here when AvP-R was made... this could have been straight to DVD after the AvP's, fast forward ten years later and i really think we're blessed and damn lucky to get a quality-looking movie like this that they evidently want to get right.

September it is.

Obviously this is pure speculation. But personally I am kind of hoping that the "friendly" predators (if we can really call them that) are still in the movie. Not because I like the idea of predator and human team up, but I do think having 3 or 4 predators with varying levels of motivation and hostility to the human characters has some cool potential.

You could have the classic / captured predator, who is clearly not friendly, and he's constantly at odds with these other two who seem to cooperate with his intended prey. He might kill them if he didn't think they were his only chance of getting out of the lab or compound. Then, all of a sudden some abomination freak upgrade shows up, and they all realize they're a bit screwed. Sounds dynamic to me. It probably won't play out that way at all, though.

I didn't dig the leaked APC photo, but at this point I don't really know what to expect, and that's creating some excitement. I don't outright dislike anything I've seen in the two trailers yet.

I do think it's odd that the captured predator seems to have the exact same bio mask that the one on the leaked APC photo had.

Yeah lefty I was thinking a lot about it today , iv come to the conclusion they are in it , but get used as cannon fodder earlier on , and the captured kills them and maybe steals their gear hence why he is in the same mask , seems the logical step at this stage, and maybe that's why they were not featured in the trailers as they were deemed unimportant by Shane and fox as they are killed off early on. Of course I'm just speculating though !  ;)

Well, to be fair... it's easy to do since the commercials have been in line with the leaked content, and it would be simple to infer that much of the specifics are the same too even if that's not the case.  A few interviews also point to some of the "meh" parts of the leaked content still being unchanged (like the friendly pred-dogs - one element that I hope is dropped.)

I've stated on numerous occasions things that I like. I'm not being negative. I'm being realistic. I am the "consider this" man, curbing enthusiasm in all the threads.

For some it may be irritating, but consider what we've seen seen since 2007. People getting jacked up with hype and then having their legs kicked out from under them. There are a lot, lot lot lot of pitfalls in this production.

There are quite a few things that I like. Many of the actors (Olmos and Jane in particular.) I like that Shane Black is involved in general because at least someone form the old guard is there. I like the design of the Captured Predator. I think that they've done a good job on the Upgrade's design.

Am I excited, though? Look, i've loved these characters since I was 8 years old.

Back in the 90s I remember watching PREDATOR on TV for the first time, while I sat with my 12 inch Alien and Predator dolls. My very first email address on the internet was "thealienfan@hotmail.com" My first forum signature on any forum I ever visited was one of several Predator quotes.

I used to cut up cardboard and use duct tape to make Predator gauntlets and a mask and a smart disc.

So, yeah. I have a lot to say on the matter, and I want them to kindly please not f*ck it up, and have faith in the classic original creature, and the near perfect tone of that movie. The one that everyone loves.

He is the anchor for this alien vessel of ours. Keeping us grounded, and realistic. Some of the movies in these franchises have been so fantastic that it doesn't always leap quickly to mind, exactly how much doody has been dropped in our lap since the late 90's. One needs both devils and angels on their shoulders to stay on track. Dissenting opinion, is the hallmark of positive and fruitful discussion.

I'm fairly certain Black said something about removing that kind of humour from the script and letting it come naturally from the actors. Which I think is best. Moments like that made me "eeehhhh".
Title: Re: NBA Finals TV Spot!
Post by: ELDERCLANLEADER on Jun 12, 2018, 05:32:26 PM
Wysps your right bud , I originally was very against this film , as many members can testify,  but after a long think about things , I realised it was mostly based on nothing more that my own bias, hear say and a blend resentment at current Hollywood trends.

Iv realised over time,  that this film really did need new ideas injected into it. And I'm incredibly pleased that Shane black took the initiative to try new things and broaden the horizon. Also when I finally got the script , it got progressively better each time I read it.

There are elements that I'm still unsure of, and some that I still just damn right hate. However the script is so old , that I don't really expect the film to look or feel anything like the script and judging from everything that's come out over the last month , including set reports , stills and the trailers , there's nothing there I can honestly say " I didn't like" there is however plenty I can confidently say "I do like"

so sure iv come round full circle. But I just think in my opinion a lot of the backlash is now unwarranted and uncalled for. With Openmaw it's just friendly banter , but there are a lot of people out there right now that are really grating on me, especially on YouTube etc.

Corporal hicks put it down to a T a few months back , when he said on the lines of " if it's too like the original the haters jump on it and say " it's just a rehash " and if it strays to far from the original , the haters then say " it's nothing like the original"

it's them types that I don't like , openmaw is cool I'm just messing with him  ;)

Generally most people on the internet are going to hate something regardless. No one wants a rehash because then it is going to be called too safe, and no one wants it to be to unlike the original because then they're going to say that it was too different (Prime example, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi). All they can do is make the best film possible and hope that a large majority of the audience enjoys the movie.

Speaking of the last jedi I hope there isn't any forced or dated comedy in this. For all the faults on that movie it is the comedy that kills it in a very bad way. A predator movie should be played hard R. Nothing wrong with having a laugh here and there but action and thrills is the theme. I really digged this trailer but there is also that sinking feeling that they're hiding the really corny parts of the film.

Yea, too much comedy isn't good (like in P2, the unnecessarry chessiness was frustrating)
it didn't come through like that though. The part with Boyd on the bus and he others laughing at his line felt like the jokes from p1, it was all right.

Shane Black has always allowed his actors to improv on set and run ideas with him. He said so in his interviews on set. Actors like Keegan Michael Key and even Olivia Munn come from comedic backgrounds and will probably assist with things like that. Shane Black himself is a funny dude. He writes good comedy (The Nice Guys is hilarious). I think(and hope) he knows just how much comedy to use in a film like this. I don't want Iron Man 3 or Nice Guys level humour in this movie but I think most of the humour is going to come from the Loonies anyways.

Yeah, and the character Thomas Jane plays is a f**king nutty, grumpy, rough, borderline psychotic, most likely alcoholic, estranged black sheep Uncle. So he's basically playing himself

They did have some great banter though. One issue I had though.. SPOILERS BELOW.

Spoiler
I just felt like once the Loonies start dying it's like none of them cared. I hope they make these guys feel more like a brotherhood. In the introduction scene of the Loonies they seem to have some history from their time in the looney bin but once they start biting it not one of them mentions anything. Nebraska's death in particular is so anticlimactic because he literally gets engulfed in flames in front of McKenna and he doesn't he even react to it.

I'll admit I tend to be unimpressed with forced, over-the-top one-liners and gags - I've been to a number of movies where the theater around me is howling with laughter while I'm only occasionally cracking a smile - but I'm not humorless! I just like a more natural, relaxed, deadpan kind of humor, and from what we've seen from the two trailers so far, I've not too worried about corny jokes. Preferences aside, I think this movie especially isn't the place for it.

Nebraska's death should (could ?) change honestly, it felt underwhelming in the script. Some other deaths are cool, but weird also, precisely the one Baxley have... How can you kill someone by tearing his skin off lol ? I mean from a technical point of view how does a spider pred achieve that ? It felt really rushed out and inaccurate. For Coyle also. And Nettles's death isn't even described ! I'm really intrigued by how it will play out during the movie, and i do believe that some deaths have changed in some extent, and will be more developed.

To be fair, reports were put out there that Black was looking for some big stars to fill out the roles. And remember, Benicio was cast before he dropped out of the role. This led many to assume we were gonna be getting some big stars. However I am very happy with the cast we have. It's harder to imagine people like Matt Damon or The Rock become their characters when you only see the actor for stars of their level.

Yeah I'm actually really excited about the casting as well. Seems like they're a fun crew and I already think this movie will be better than Predators because of the actors involved (as well as the risky writing). The loonies idea seems fun and unique. Thomas Jane I'm looking forward to the most but I'm loving Holbrook's lines and presence in the trailers, I feel like they made a great decision with him as the lead.

Yeah, because generating negative buzz about your movie is always a good idea.

Reynolds leaked the script and test footage of Deadpool to embarass Fox into action and to get a grass roots hype machine going. It worked big time.

I see no gain in trying "to piss off some of the die-hard Predator fans." That's your core audience. The long time fans who spend money on Predator merch, see the movie five times, and buy the dvd, blu-ray, streaming edition, the digital deluxe supreme ultra edition, the figures, hats, t-shirts.

So no, I doubt that. Leaked intentionally to get some feelers from their audience? Sure, that happens, but they wouldn't do it just to piss off their audience. You know why? Also it wasn't a widespread leak. It's only been a small group of people who have read it at this point.

I actually would've been content with all of those choices.  Not that I mind going the non-A list route, but getting a big name actor or several could have added a little more oomph.  That being said, I'm totally fine with Holbrook, I'm happy with what I've seen so far in the trailer/teaser and much of the casting in general.

The impression I get from the trailer seeing as how they are all dressed the same in the clip where Mckenna tells them about the alien and a bit later when the guy in the red shirt gets pulled out through the rear window of the bus by a predator is, that there's more than plenty of good reason for them to accept Mckenna's story.

None of them are physically disabled, they suffer from PTSD mostly. The only ones who appear to be suffering the most from PTSD are Coyle and Baxley. (Thomas Jane and Keegan's characters).

I hope they do more with it though. They're just portrayed as these crackpot soldiers who laugh and crack jokes. It would be interesting if they do a little more with the PTSD element while they engage in battle against the Predators.

During that big final battle too. You could have all kinds of stuff going on with the Loonies in terms of seeing things, or suffering the shakes or breaking down, relieving what they experienced. Over come the monsters of their own personal demons.

Spoiler
During that big final battle too. You could have all kinds of stuff going on with the Loonies in terms of seeing things, or suffering the shakes or breaking down, relieving what they experienced. Over come the monsters of their own personal demons.

Spoiler
Exactly. Hell maybe it could even lead to one or two of their deaths because they get such bad anxiety or flashbacks to whatever screwed then up to begin with. That could be some pretty powerful stuff.

See, it's not even right to call this "second trailer' a trailer. It's not, really. It's a TV spot, and from what Hicks said, it's exclusive to the NBA event so we won't be getting another version of it until maybe the blu-ray release as an extra feature.

I gotta imagine the next true trailer is on the way pretty soon though.

So the predators hunting disabled vets? yikes.
Mental illness is absolutely not synonymous with mental disability.

Mac is one of my favorite characters and I'd consider him mentally unhinged after Blain died, exhibiting signs of detachment, agitation/irritability, self-destructive behavior, possibly insomnia (all signs of ptsd).

I thought his dynamic with the group plus his ultimate fate was incredibly interesting to see unfold.

Seeing a couple of characters with similar traits funneled through different personalities is interesting to me, so I'm looking forward to it 👍

Agreed and good points.

They seem to be keeping any footage of Thomas Jane from the trailers kind of makes me wonder what they have up their sleeve with him, especially if his character is supposed to be the most unhinged.

I'm sure we'll get more of the Loonies in the next trailer. However the star of the movie is The Predator so they'll probably focus on the aliens in marketing and we'll get plenty of great moments in the film once it's released. Unless they ruin everything in the trailers.

He's supposed to have tourette syndrome, i wonder if they will use this aspect to some comedic ends with his character, that wouldn't surprise me with Shane Black. Also he's supposed to be an alien conspirationist of some sort lol, while his buddy Keegan Michael Key is a sceptic. I can't wait to see the dynamic between the two, one of Black's trademarks !

I think the most interesting thing about this movie will definitely be how the ensemble works together, especially the Loonies.  Hopefully they won't go the cliche route of portraying psych as "oh, everyone has poor impulse control and is loud" etc, etc.  That would be disappointing :-\

I bought one of these guys off of ebay for ten bucks.

It came in a little envelop. I pulled out my box cutter, and started to open it. Suddenly I was having The Predator Teaser flashes in my head.

Tourettes? I look forward to hearing some absurd, Eric Cartman like comments coming from his mouth then! Then I hope a Predator mimics him.  ;D

Make another account called "I have a bad feeling about this", maybe it'll work.
