What did they mean by digital edition PS5, does it not have a disc drive?

It doesn't. Makes the console look way better without the hump, but doesn't use discs.  :-\

I do not like the console design, overall. I think it is ugly. Very ugly.

Yeah after seeing more pictures I noticed it. They put the drive in the wrong place ruins the sleekness of the design which I don't mind. Even if I did I'd buy it anyway for the exclusive games

Love the design, just wanted the price.

Looking forward to Spiderman, Hitman 3 and Horizon. Been wanting to replay GTAV again since my PS3 so I'm glad their finally giving it an upgrade.

PS5 all the way for me.  You can argue over teraflops all day long but quite simply PS exclusives in the last 5 years have set the bar way above anything that M$ can come up with and they will continue to do so with the next generation.  Can Xbox players really get excited for more Halo or Forza?

If anything, the new information is making me less anticipated. My reasons for getting a PS5 are now going to be GoW Ragnarok, and RE8 if it's in VR. Everything else is being released on PS4 or PC.
My attitude is now wait and see.

Yeah, bit of a puzzler why Horizon is getting a PS4 release.

If it wasn't for the backwards compatibility, I wouldn't be preordering the PS5. I want to play my old games like Witcher with better FPS and graphics.

The only exciting things about PS5 for me is its controller and software 3D audio system that even works on stereo headphones.

You can keep everything but if some game does not work like on PS4, then you cannot sue them for false advertisement. And I would not expect remasters of PS4 games. Rather updates with new features.

Some of the publishers are offering free patches that take advantage of the ps5 power but some of them are releasing a new version and selling them like GTA V. I think there's a boost mode so all PS4 games should benefit from higher fps whether the developer releases new patches or not.

I shall probably wait for the new Spider-man. I'm definitely intending on getting this and the next-Box, just a matter of the when. Definitely not on launch, but Spider-man for PS, Halo for Xbox.

Most of the PS5 'exclusives' are being released on PS4 or PC as well. As of right now I think there's only Ratchet & Clank and God of War Ragnarok that are actually PS5 exclusive (and GoWR hasn't been confirmed, though it's extremely likely).

I know about it. Just letting Corporal Hicks know that he does not need to get PS5 yet if he has PS4. Unless he wants all bells and whistles i.e. better frame rate, higher resolution, better textures, ray tracing effects, etc. The same with Halo and Xbox Series S/X.

It's a fair question. I have been playing MCC on the PC, but then I switched back to the Xbox and honestly, I just like playing it downstairs on the big ass TV with an Xbox controller in my hands. Just feels right playing it on the actual console. Just a mental thing.

Indeed. Thanks for the reminder. I likely will get Miles on the PS4, but Spidey 2 will be further down the line and I'm hoping we'll be seeing a price fall or special edition consoles by then.

Yeah, I rarely ever buy digital games unless they're ridiculously cheap because I can't resell them to get some of my money back.

I don't know anybody can justify paying £70 for a game, worse even if it's digital and you can't resell it.
Title: Re: PlayStation 5 Discussion Thread
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Sep 24, 2020, 07:32:40 AM
Unless it's a big tent-pole game for me like Alien, Predator, Halo, Battlefield or Spiderman, I'm just not paying full retail on release. If I can get them for under £20, I'll pick them up - digital or physical at that point. Because if I'm waiting that long, I'm not a huge fan of it.

Yeah, two seconds of work that can be eliminated by having my library of games installed on a hard drive and selectable on a menu.  It's no different than how my first TV remote eliminated the need to get up from the couch and turn the dial on a hulking, wood-paneled CRT whenever I wanted to change the channel.

Title: Re: PlayStation 5 Discussion Thread
Post by: Local Trouble on Sep 29, 2020, 06:23:00 AM
For better or worse, I'd say that only the console games released prior to the 7th generation could actually be owned.  The developers actually had to put in some effort to QA test them too.

All we can really own on physical media now are essentially beta versions that were deemed "good enough" for release by a certain date, even if they're broken as f**k.
Title: Re: PlayStation 5 Discussion Thread
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Sep 29, 2020, 07:28:38 AM
That's also a fair point. Also given how much focus is on the MP, what's the point when in so many years and the servers are then dead. I guess, realistically, the physical ownership is down to things like films and TV. For games, it might just be more for that extra something of something you love on your shelf.
Title: Re: PlayStation 5 Discussion Thread
Post by: Local Trouble on Sep 29, 2020, 08:06:32 AM
Even then, if the physical media is damaged or lost then your "ownership" of it is lost as well.  With few exceptions (e.g. Transformers: Devastation), if my digital copy is lost for some reason then all I have to do is download and install it again because the purchase is attached to my account.

Given the emphasis that all of the console makers are now placing on backwards compatibility (and even patching older games to run better than they did on their original platforms), I expect they'll also put more effort into making these games available on their servers over the long term.
