Hello friends,
With the news of Blomkamps Alien film being official and with the sequel to Prometheus coming soon, I'm putting together what will be a bi-monthly podcast for all things Alien. This will be in the realm of Rebel Force Radio in terms of quality (but it won't be 2 hours).
I'm on the hunt for a partner in crime to host the show with me, and some fan ideas. I'm launching within the next week.
I'd love to hear from you all.
JM Prater
The most obvious first one is an introduction of you, your history with the franchise and then your involvement in the online community.
Then Alien 5.
That'll be the topic of our next one.
What I'm after right now is a co-host, some one as equally enthralled and obsessed with the films as I am.
I have a great idea for the first few months of podcasts.
I need a partner in crime.
Anyone interested? You have to be committed, great personality, good communicator of ideas, passionate, clear, excited.
Let me know!
email me jaimeprater@gmail.com

Any chance you can use something other than Soundcloud? Preferably with a RSS feed. There's no easy way to download and listen to these on my phone.
You can stream them from the app. Otherwise, you can download off the website and then upload to your phone.
They've released up to episode 5.
I am really enjoying this podcast. So glad I now have two Alien related podcasts to listen to from time to time.
I guest starred on the latest episode. We talked about Alien, AvP, Prometheus, bits and pieces of AvPG history and some general natter.

lol, don't put AvP World down.
I definitely was more into Predator once upon a time but now? I like the character more I guess but I like the Alien franchise as a whole.
But yes, the Predator will be coming back in the new design, definitely.

"The only exclusively Alien podcast of its kind"?
I've tried listening to a couple of these and I can't take them seriously. The latest one for instance towards the end they're talking about the various films and how it's just their opinions and people shouldn't take it personally - fair enough. Seconds later 'Everyone agrees Alien Resurrection was dogshit and worse than both the AvPs'... And they seem to consistently push the erroneous line that Prometheus was generally disliked.
^ Agree with SM.

"The only exclusively Alien podcast of its kind"?
From the point of view of our podcast being Alien and Predator, they have a point.
I thought that too - but they talk a lot about Blade Runner, Star Wars, one episode is devoted to The Martian, etc.
I think my issue is there is a tone of authority that isn't really born out in the content. And if that authority isn't there, then enthusiasm for the series - the whole series - goes a long way, but that's lacking too.
Not that it's a bad podcast; just not my cup of tea.
AVPGalaxy is still the number one source for all things Alien. That's my perspective and why I keep coming back.
Definitely, there is no other source with so much depth and ease of use.
Yeah they do dislike Prometheus on that podcast but I don't take them too seriously lol. I'd rather that podcast exist than not, makes for a bit more entertainment.

I don't agree with everything the fellas say but I enjoy listening to them. It's interesting to hear some other perspectives. They come from a different part of the fandom, a different area (WYB Facebook group) and while I dislike Scified and how they operate, it's interesting to hear how that other area is different.
I submitted a request to join WYB on Facebook 'cos me old mate Darrell Curtis is on it, but after listening to the podcast, I didn't really think we were on the same wavelength and cancelled it.
I tried Scified as well, but visit less and less due to a number of the longtime posters being very precious about their (often intriguing) opinions and aren't very welcoming to other points of view. I mainly go there now 'cos xeno_alpha07 moved the brilliant Weyland Yutani Archive there.

Yeah, I've seen some of your exchanges with the denizens. :'( I'd actually offered alpha some hosting space here for the Archive but he'd already accepted Scified's offer. I'm not keen how it's just looks a part of their usual template.

What's AvP World?
My first AvP website. Around the same time, Darkness, myself and The Ultimate Predator, all started our own websites. We all ran independently for a good few years until we all eventually joined up under the Galaxy banner to run this together back in 06/07.
It was an absolutely terrible looking website.

Did you extend that same offer to Mike Lynch for The Anchorpoint Essays? Even if he no longer wants to maintain it, I can't understand why he'd want it just gone. SM?
From memory Mike just didn't have the time or motivation to keep it running, but didn't want to lose control of it by hosting it elsewhere.

I've not had a chance to listen to it yet but JM was also invited down to ADI at the end of last year and his audio interview is now up.
I remember that the makers of Alien: Covenant consulted an "Alien expert" to get the lore "right".
I wonder if that was Charles de Lauzirika.
Although he is a great Alien historian, I wonder how well he knows the in-universe stuff.
If it was CdL; he's pretty switched on.
Every episode's fantastic, since no 1.
Cheers!

I find Patrick a better one of the two. In fact, I like every other co-host more than JM. He is like a big daddy who tries hard to come off as open-minded person and everybody tries to please him because he started the whole thing. Every time when somebody tries to praise Res or prequels or criticise Alien 3 he makes one stupid joke "Ok, insert name here, thank you for coming on our show". So, he's kinda making fun of himself but it gets old pretty fast. That's probably my main problem with him - he loves to say that Scott is repeating himself but himself repeats a lot of things ("Characters, characters, characters", " Ripley is my space mom" etc)

Good to hear him mention interest in the flying queen.
She, the bull alien, and a certain creature from Into Charybdis are at the top of my wish list.
I've been wondering if a flying queen would be a standard sized figure, a bigger ultimate figure, or a full-sized $100 queen fig. After listening to him outline the hassle & risk of releasing big queen figs, I'm expecting an ultimate-sized figure.

QuoteMany of you will know Salvador Larroca through his majestic work on Marvel's Doctor Doom series, which I HIGHLY recommend. Larocca is terrific visual storyteller. There are glimpses of his talent in Alien #1, but on the whole I want the art to be edgier. To be pushed a little. For Larroca to let loose and scare us. The art in this issue is very good -- and completely on par with what most fans will expect -- but knowing what Larroca is capable of, I feel like he's holding back a little here. The colors, by Guru-eFX, are stunning and every bit the polished Marvel product any comic reader will recognize. Again, maybe a little too polish for my liking -- a little too vibrant, a little too perfect -- but maybe that's just something I need to get used to.
:D
Maybe most fans expect horrible copy jobs...?

I'm hoping for this. The full sized queens are like $300 here and frankly, I don't think the bodyplan/head shape of the old flying queen would even work on the film-accurate template.

Was listening to their latest podcast and one of the hosts brought up an interesting term - "mediocre trilogy", which consists of Resurrection and two AvP movies. Made me smile
They've done an interesting podcast commentary of the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 with Charles de Lauzirika.
Who wants to listen to a guy passive-agressively bitching about Prometheus for an hour ? Come here, come all ! (https://www.podbean.com/site/EpisodeDownload/PB12452E7R969C)
Spoiler
(OK, to be fair, I didn't listen to it yet so I don't really know if Jaime is gonna bitch about it AGAIN but I have strong gutfeeling he's gonna to)
They hit Big 200 ! (https://perfectorganism.podbean.com/e/200-celebrating-200-episodes-of-perfect-organism-podcast-beyond/)
David Fincher and Alien 3 (https://perfectorganism.podbean.com/e/203-wreckage-rage-david-fincher-and-alien-3/)

Probably better than the AVPG version.
ohsnap
Also, in hindsight, after listening to that episode, Jaime didn't bitch nearly as much about Prometheus as I expected him too

Don't listen to her, Corporal ! You did fine !
Oh he did, I just take issue with the neverending whine in an Italian accent.
Alright, let's stop that before it goes any further. Thank you.
Enjoyed the latest episode with an interview with former Fox exec Joshua Izzo. Discusses the origins of Alien Day. I think he mentions an AvP cartoon that was made. Mentions that AvP was always frowned upon by Fox/Disney. The third Alien prequel film was going to be called Alien Destiny.

Makes sense since Fox lost alot of money greenlighting AVP 04 and AVPR

Critics aside I'm pretty sure both films were profitable for Fox.
According to wiki -
"AvP is the second highest-grossing film in either the Predator or Alien franchises, behind Prometheus, which grossed over $403 million worldwide.[48] It ranks third behind Aliens and Prometheus at the domestic box office."
They underperformed from expectations but I don't think they lost on the first movie at least.
