I am not a pushover when it comes to my high expectations for Alien and Predator movies, and there are some things I've seen in the AvP trailers and promo footage that makes me raise an eyebrow, but I am getting tired of reading so many negative posts. The fact that it seems there are more negative things being said about AvP:R than were said about AvP really appalls me.
So, in a totally different direction, I'd like to say what I'm really liking so far, or looking forward to seeing, or am thankful for, in AvP:R.
I hope others will mention what they are enjoying from the footage they've seen. If you want to post about what you dislike/hate/whatever, please don't derail this thread. Seriously, there are lots of other threads to mention those things in. I'm kind of just hoping to keep this positive.
-First and foremost, I am relieved this is rated R. I am thankful that I can expect some serious gore. Not for gores sake at all, but because it's is an ingrained part of Alien and Predator films, and we need to have this in an AvP film.
-I am very happy to see that the Predators appear agile and athletic again. One of the most frightening things about the Predator has always been how quickly they can kill you.
-I'm thrilled that the gaudy and cartoonish weapons from AvP have been toned back to normal again. I can't tell you how important it is to have semi-normal length wristblades, and shoulder cannons that don't look like they could be a blunderbuss.
-Disregarding any mandible issues, I am glad to see the unmasked predator appear mean again. Above all else, a Predator should ALWAYS look pissed off.
-I'm hoping/expecting to see some aliens get hit by machine gun fire. AvP did in fact have a cool firearm (The G-36), but I don't recall a single creature actually getting hit by a bullet. That was lame.
I don't want to go on and on, I'm just hoping to get the ball rolling.
i am thrilled that adi will get money for raping my childhood.
I'm thrilled that this hunter sees a facehugger leaping towards him, and immediately blasts it with his gun. I've been yelling at characters to actually react to the buggers throughout most of the other movies. They usually just stand in shock and get hit. XD
That single action actually made me sorry for his imminent death.
This movie makes me appreciate the original more.
* Setting - an ancient underground pyramid away from civilization as opposed to a shoe shop
* Characters - scientists and archaeologists, no pizza boys/sheriffs/waiters
* Balance - one alien kills two predators, one predator kills about five aliens/not a predalien kills predators/predator kills 500 aliens/ aliens kill 1 predator
Also the chest bursting scene where Scar's body reacts like it should. :)

Even Anderson had enough sense to not give the Predators a powerglove :P
- I like the way Wolf is looking with his mask.
- The cinematography is great. Pearl is a genius.
- I'm digging the thrill-ride vibe; this is going to be incredibly fun
at least the first time through.
- i loved the predator music in the homeworld bit, i HOPE thats how it is in the final movie as well. That music just fits that scene so damn well.
-I like the gritty feeling the preds have got back ;D

Yeah that music suited that scene really well.
Im happy with loads of stuff and allot less to complain about from what Ive seen. ;D
And here is my version on what I'm happy or thrilled about in AvP:R
- The Wolf Predator has got two cannons now as opposed to it's predecessors who carries only one shoulder cannon (it's sweet, yo!)
- The thermal vision background is blue again just like in Predator, Predator 2 and AVP 1 and 2 PC games and last but not least, Concrete Jungle.
- The Wolf Predator's face is a reminisce of the First Predator and Second Predator
- New weapons to the Wolf Predator's arsenal such as a barbed-wired whip and a power glove
- Score from the Predator movie is back.
-Its back to the traditional, predators that like to make trophies ;D :D

Oh, you mean the NECA Wolf Predator Masked and Unmasked action figures? They haven't arrived yet and estimation date of arrival is January or February 2008.

YIP thats it SORRY MAN ;D
I'm glad that the predator's Alien vision mode is slightly different.
In AvP it was green aliens with green background (no contrast at all)
But in AvP-R the background is green and predalien looks brownish-yellow, which gives contrast :)

Calm down, friend. There's no need to be sorry. After all, it's just a matter of answer a question and asking a question all together at the same time.

Thanx man i just felt so bad! i am a Pred fan and i forgot that Abreviason :-[
Happy about:
Bad-ass predator, relieved his face looks better than originally indicated
New weapons
More serious adult tone
New setting for the conflict
Lot more action than the first AvP
Cinematography
Predator homeworld
No Anderson retarded slo-mo or wrestling moves
Not thrilled with Predalien concept or the regular Alien's appearance and toned-down lethalness but can live with it. It appears the Strauses are keeping them in the dim lighting which works great.
Well... liked Wolf's chair and the monitor...does that count...? ;D
What I'm most thrilled about?
That it doesn't look as awful as I thought when I heard it was greenlit.
The most recent thing I'm impressed with is how natural they have got the Aliens running along ceilings to seem like.

I liked that as well, that as pretty neat. Much better than "I am Wolf on my throne, watch me roar in full CGI glory!"

Where do we see this? I don't recall any real alien locomotion in the trailers?

One of the new TV spots. You see one hauling ass 'Spider-man' style along a wall.

Lmao! Omg. I just pictured that in my head. CHEEEEESE!! The bros could've easily made it like that,
but they didnt.
I'm happy to hear that there are 16 fight scenes as opposed to 3.....
^^
That's the official number? If it is, then Im happy about that too.
I'm happy that facehuggers actually have more than 2 seconds in the film. :D

Came straight from Colin....
I think the ceiling/wall-crawling is done with physical effects, by the look of the lighting, but that one shot seems to beat what was similarly tried in 'Alien 3', by miles. Very impressive.
kinda off topic but do you think riots will break out if at the end of AVP-R, military preds armed with rapid-fire plasmacasters arrive to rescue wolf??

First, I thought the same thing, then started wondering, post-store clip mostly, about the QUALITY of the aforementioned fight sequences...
To be continued AFTER the movie is out... ;)

Yes, it is 'easy' now with CGI, but even with practical camera tricks, like shooting Tom crawling on the floor and reverse the camera so that he looks like up on the ceiling, or use CG to isolate that same shot or shots with Tom moving slightly different and use computers to place him on the ceiling and walls...
And that can be used always with the Alien as a man in suit, not as a CGI...At least, those shots could... ;D
Jim Cameron was a source of practical effects... I miss him... :'(
AVATAR...AVATAR...AVATAR...better not suck...better not suck... ;D :D ;)

Ive wondered what counts as a fight.
Does each predator kill on the scout ship count as a fight individually?
Does the facehugger scene in the woods count as a fight?
I think some of them are fights, and some of them are just kill/interactions......
Yes the wall crawling was nice...as long as its not an Alien 3 flashback (loved the concept hated the extacution)
The action! If anything the huge of amount of action will make this movie worth seeing.
Aliens Vs Predator
Predalien Vs Predator
Aliens Vs Human
Predator vs Human
Predalien Vs Human
Yeah, lot's of action...

1. It has the 80s old school feel to it
2. The sorce
3. The action
4. The Wolf design
A lot more :), the only thing i don't like about it is that the humas will nuke the aliens and predators. I hate happy ending >:(!
