I thought it was a good game; it had a good storyline, good gameplay, and was loads of fun. Why do people think it was so bad?

I liked the game all except for the alien missions. One why would aliens be in a predator game? If they were in it, it should of been AVP. Also those missions were a fricken pain in the *ss, But other then that I enjoyed it.
The Predator have an amazing render but the other characters are in made in simple ugly 3D.
I think that sums up to one thing: poor graphics. They should remake this game again, you know to help promote the release the new Predators film with improved systems, storyline, controls and graphics like the one in the new AVP game. Just a thought.
I personally enjoyed the game, but I didn't like some of the parts.
The storyline was ok, I mean the whole thing about the predator's blood, I for some reason thought that was kinda stupid. And I hated the camera in this game. Personally they should make a predator only game like this, just in first person.

Its not really a remake then, is it?
Why won't it be? They'll still be following the basic plot. Just making a few tweaks here and there.
Been trying to get my hands on it for a quite some time now...
But yeah, it's all bad reviews hahah... But then again, so has every pred/alien/avp game! ;)
I love so much this game .
What a surprise when the xeno mission comes up , i was like "oh my god that's so cool".
You kill them 10 by 10 and they just keep coming :o sweet and nervious at the same time.
If you want to unlock the city hunter (Predator 2) skin ,you have to kill 97 xeno (it's been a long time so i'm not sure)
I like the game quite a bit. I'm playing through it again now, actually. First time in a long time, and it still holds up well.
I played it often upon release, completed the game completely with all upgrades - and later the game froze and I lost all of my progress. I had to in turn complete the game again and reclaim the upgrades. It tested my patience, but I had to do it out of honour.
I enjoyed the story, and find that to be the best aspect of the game. It is not often that we are treated to new Predator material, so I naturally took it all in and enjoyed it.
Ordered this today off ebay ;D I'm taking your guys word for it, that it isn't as bad as the critics say. Hell it's just about the only Alien/Predator game I don't have.
I loved it.
The camera was just about the worst thing I've ever seen on a game, LOL, but the storyline is terrific --- I wish it were the basis for a Predator film. Probably expensive & difficult to remain faithful to, but it was absolutely the best aspect of the game.
There were other positive elements, & no way, no how is it as bad as the critics suggest. The gore is worthy of the franchise's roots, the vision modes are an outstanding feature, long list of weapons. It wasn't a great game, but it certainly wasn't a terrible one.

Personally, I thought the storyline was the single worst thing about the game. Period.
So humans somehow steal alien technology from a city that has been blown to smithereens, then make laser guns & flying cars out of it. A disgraced predator just chills out in exile for 100 years before coming back to Earth to wipe out the local crack heads & hookers. Along the way, he fights giant robots, bad bloods & Samurais, then the villian gene-splices himself with predator DNA turning himself into a freak abomination...
Purrleease. It's worse than something a 5 year old would write. I can't believe they even green lit this game with such a laughable storyline to begin with.
Anyone can be facetious about anything. That is not criticism ::)
They couldn't beat it hahaha. Maybe that's why they didn't like it
I liked the game, until again my house got robbed in 2008, and fair enough I bought a replacement from the same Ebay store that sold me AVP: Extinction.

You're telling me. I couldn't find a new copy of either game on ebay at all and if I did, it was outrageously expensive. :(
I'm playing it right now. The story line is OK. I do love the gameplay though. I prefer 3rd person to 1st any day. Not having peripheral vision in 1st person drives me crazy! I'd love to see a sequel!
IMO, the vision modes, their strengths & weaknesses, & the analyses they can do on your rivals is arguably the best feature of gameplay. A lot can be said for the variety of kills & imaginative executions, though.
It's one of the best 3rd person games I've played. Wouldn't mind a sequel. I think the executions were one of the best features of the game. :)

Question is, would a sequel follow Scarface (ala Riddick in the sequel to
Pitch Black), or follow Lucretia & the Weyland-Yutani merger, & their interactions with other Preds?
I don't think there's really a scenario where you could incorporate both ends here. Either you go in one direction, following Scarface to other worlds, or you start as a new Pred altogether, battling Lucretia as the new MOTHER, & essentially do the whole thing all over again, with different technology & foes.
I quite enjoyed the game and liked the way you could change costumes. Also liked the inlclusion of the Naginata

I had a storyline idea much like the 2nd scenario except it was more of an open world. Basically, Weyland-Yutani somehow got access to Hunter's experiments somehow and decided to use Lucretia for a soldier experiment in order for humans to successfully obtain Xenomorphs without harm. I had Scarface as your Elder in the clan and it took place shortly after Alien 3. I had started some creature ideas for the Predator to hunt. In order to progress in the storyline, you had to do a number of hunts in order to gain experience.
I had the idea somewhere, I should post it up sometime. It would involve different hunts besides just humans and Aliens.
As big predator fan, this game so far the best solo predator game I've ever played despite on some minor issue. The game has a lot potential if other developer made this game like R* games. And for those who hate and criticize the game, we don't blame them cause first maybe their not Predator fans and to be honest the control was kind of hard at first.
For Xmas I found a copy of this game at a local GameSpot. It's pretty fun and I love how the game works. My favorite part is when you kill a main boss you rip out their spines. You can't beat that. Right now I'm on a level that's bugging me though. It involves me following a spanish drug dealer where he's hanging out with a bunch of whores with guns. And you can't use your cloaking device because it's being jammed by a satellite. And I keep getting caught by the prostitutes. Which is pretty funny I must say.
But what I've played so far is very fun and cool. To bad the game didn't do that well.
only does it not rape the canon, and not only did it make me leave the franchise for years, i didnty play videogames for years, because this game was the worst game, i have ever played. it is an insult to my role as a fan of the predator-franchise and lore, and me as a gamer.
The game has awful missions, piss-poor AI, stupid story, worthless design, and even worse Game-design, but the wost of all is the controls. i dont want to play my ps2 anymore, because it reminds me of that awful game.
i didnt even sell it. i effin threw it out.
writing this made me sad. this is what i have against the game.

Curious to know how it rapes the cannon? I haven't finished the game so I'm a little lost there.
I don't remember the video games being officially recognized as canon anyway whether it rapes or not, it's just a fun video game.
I loved the game, I eventually got good enough to play on the hardest difficulty with no upgrades effortlessly. My only beaf with it was the alien levels. I love aliens, probably more than predators, but this a Predator title not an AvP one, it's like they ran out of ideas for new enemies or something. Perhaps the graphics could have been better but I'm not really bothered by it at all.
What I have against this game now is the practical impossibility of getting The Six Pack trophy (7 people not 6, which I think they producers initially intended but worded wrong) and the XP glitch that makes you lose XP.
... this is about Concrete Jungle not AvP2010.
Oh, oops. My bad. :-[
The issue with PCJ is first a matter of graphics.
I think this game looks very very horrible.
But since everything does not depends on graphics, I could have forgive it.
The other thing that probably pissed me off were this kind of "high tech" humans.
The whole vision and mood of the thing just felt wrong.
IMO, they should have stick also with the story line in the years 1900s
I really enjoyed the first mission and some later where you come back into the past.
The alien at the end also kinda ruined the experience.
I was firstly so excited to see some alien in a predator game but when I realized how the AI does work I was like... :-\
Though, I think the overall gameplay was well made.

What a load of rubbish - sure the game is far from perfect but writing stuff like 'it's the worst game I've ever played' is just stupid!
I got this from eBay (again) yesterday for a luagh and I'm quite enjoying it again! I'll admit the story is laugh able but ignoring that there's alot of cool features in this game (probably more so than AvP 2010 game).
For £6 off eBay it's a bargain :-)
I'm enjoying the hell out of it!!! I'm at the level where you have to fight the aliens and it's hard as hell. But I've got a kick out of this game. And the storyline isn't that bad either. The only level that I thought was stupid was the one where you follow the Hispanic drug dealer.
But other than that great game!!!!
Just conquered the game and I'm curious if they'll make a sequel with the way it ended? Also, loved the last fight on top of that statue.
My biggest flaw with the game is that graphic texture is bad since it looks dated even in 2005. I also hated the camera, if those two where fix then I would love the game much more.
I think this game is way too hard I can only make it to level 8.
Maybe I can help; I beat the campaign, got all the upgrades, beat all the rituals, etc. Which level is that again?
The game was fun, the reasons why a lot of folks don't like it are obvious to me, but I think it pretty much boils down to if you're a fan of the Predator. The only way I got by the game is by pretending to actually be the Predator. The movies helped out a lot in how the play the game. I really doubt that I would get anywhere or find any fun in it if I just went around trying to run and gun the enemies everywhere at all times.
This game is just too hard.
1.Timed missions.
2.So many things to collect.
3.The Player must do a perfect job.
4.Most secrets are hard to find.
There is like 30 levels.
Just look up faqs online and they provide most if not all of the answers.

Anyway, you can make anything sound silly and exaggerated (the story of Prometheus for example). Whether you like the story is a matter of taste.
Does anybody still play this?
Occasionally.
I havent played it in over a year. Alot of my ps2 games bore me now. I think it's because I've played them all so many times.
I don't even own it. My friends had it has his place and I had never played it before. It was fun.
I feel the same way about my GameCube games.
From what I understand this game has always been hard to come by. When I bought my used copy from GameStop in 2008, the guy said it's rare you ever see copies of it.
Hmm that's strange. I guess people either throw them away or they just hold onto it without giving it up.
You're in Scotland right? It might be different over there. From what I've read they were never produced in mass quantities. Something about demand. Not sure if what I read was accurate though.
Haha Scotland? ;D Nope. I'm from the tropics of Florida Lol
It might not have been but I think most people have still somehow ended up playing the game.
My mistake. I confused you with another user on here that I used to talk with. :D
Nah, it's all good my man. :D
Even for its era, graphic was not good say the least. Camera problem. Not open world enough like it was supposed to be.
As a fan of Predator and Predator 2 I loved this game. The look and feel gave me an odd 'good odd' feeling like the one I get when I read those awesome predator comics.
This was the Predator that I'd been waiting for. I don't know why people had a problem with it. I go back and play it every couple of months. But right now I've been on AvP2 terror and that's kicking my ass. Anyway, I wish they'd do another one.

Yeah, those were some great levels. In the final fight I kept falling when I was trying to catch up with him. For some reason I have a dislike of heights in games.
I liked these you mentioned.
1. Stalking Hongo
2. Predators fight
3. Breaking out of the lab
I actually liked every level mainly the large hunting maps where you can lure people to a nice area and tear them to pieces with the Maul.
The level with the Aliens was a bit forced and lame. I know that's a common consent amongst others who have played this game.

Loved the Maul with the Glaive a close second. Loved mixing up combos.
Because it's dopey as hell but good fun.
I remember the controls being a bit convoluted and the melee combat lacked any kind of impact. The game did do okay in levels where you had to stalk and take someone out, but most of the levels were purely combat, and the fighting just wasn't very fun. Especially when they threw enemies at you with very big health bars, forcing you to jump around while you fought them to avoid attacks.
Those seem to be some of the things people typically dislike about the game. Those, and the special weapons being very underpowered. Not sure if I agree or not, as I remember the spear gun working well on typical goons. I did find the concept interesting to. Felt very video gamey.
I had a lot of fun with this game back in the day, I think my copy is still playable on the xbox 360.
I had the most fun when playing the game on the highest difficulty and not getting any weapons upgrades at all, I'd still beat the game in less than a day, these days though I simply don't have that kind of free time anymore though, responsibilities and all that. With these particular conditions it wasn't easy yet it wasn't too hard either, it was just right for me and in the end I'd feel badass. I also recall getting 1st in all those ritual running levels thingy.
Overall, it isn't the greatest game ever (why the Aliens?) but it is at least fun as a fan of Predator.
I actually played this game along time ago before I had actually seen any of the films, but I had a little background information on them. This game actually inspired me somewhat to watch the films.
Predator: Concrete Jungle was majorly stripped back from the original plans that the developers and Fox Interactive had in mind. I was invited to attend an early development meeting at Eurocom (before which I got to have a curry dinner with Dave Stalker and Paul Pawlicki from Fox - if anyone here remembers them) and Fox initially wanted to make the game an open world title like Grand Theft Auto, in which the Predator would have the freedom to roam the city and hunt his prey. As I understand it, Eurocom were unable to achieve this to Fox's satisfaction and the game became more and more linear and many features were dropped in order to meet milestones/deadlines. It had potential to be fantastic.....but wound up being rather mediocre because Eurocom (who went out of business two years ago) just couldn't deliver, either due to lack of competence or time.
I never thought this was terrible but the open world concept was much more impressive. It'd be nice to see something like that with the current technology.
I thought it was a great game, one of my favorite games on PS2...
But yeah, like Corporal Hicks said, I would like to see a open world game with the technology of today
I recently dug out my dusty old PS2 just so I could give this game another go, and if anything it was even better than I remembered. The controls were still crap, but gameplay- and story-wise it was awesome.
Some of the jumping mechanics sucked though. Sometimes you literally just couldn't hit the target ledge you were aiming for.
I looked for this game to play it on the PS2 too , yet none of my friends had it . And I couldn't find it anywhere , not even on a rag fair but I found a good copy of the game on the internet and I decided to order it .
Hope it's worth it .
The game is fun you can do what ever you want do you can kill robots do double jumps it is a very awsome game but one part when you have to fight the aliens which is dumb why are aliens in that game it is only for predators.
So, the past week, I've been in a big Predator mood. I figure I break out Concrete Jungle, see if it's still playable. There was a whole year where my copy went without a case. Just hanging around, getting scratched and collecting dust. I did end up finding the case, and locked the game up for a long while. Up until last week that is. To my surprise, the game was actually playable, start to finish. The only problem I noticed was music skipping and repeating. I was pretty impressed, my copy of the game took a beating, and here it is still working just fine. My file was erased, I don't remember actually doing so, but I didn't mind starting over. Some things are still quite annoying, such as no in-mission checkpoints. But I still had fun, just like the old days.
It's too bad this game didn't have a cheat for infinite energy and ammo for the spear gun and mines. They had a hardmode, why not use it for that purpose? Ah well, that's what codebreaker is for.

On PS2, right?
Thread bump, but during a mass clear out, stumbled across OXM's Extended Play (a B/W nnewsletter thing subscribers used to get with each copy) and issue 30's leads with Predator:Concrete Jungle.
I had NO idea the exec.producer, David Stalker had worked on PC AVP games previousily, nor the script was penned by comic writer Grant Morrison.
There's a mini-interview with David Stalker, where he said they went with a 3rd person viewpoint as it enabled them to show off the Predators looks, weapons and agility much more than a 1st person viewpoint would of enabled and jumping was a lot easier using this viewpoint also.....
Cheeky blighter never said anything about the camera being a pain in 3rd person games, inc this one though...hmmn.

Would it be easier/more useful IF from that WIP parcel for Unseen64, i dug out the said interview, sent it via snail mail to yourself and you could scan it, put it up for all to enjoy on here?.
That sounds good to me, dragon.

Basically i have the following mag pages which i think would be rather splendid scanned and put up for everyone to enjoy:
Alien 3 C+VG review and advert (SNES) from C+VG
Predator:Concrete Jungle Mini interview with Exec.Producer David Stalker from Xbox:Extended Play.
The 2 Concept Art sketches from early PC (and planned PS1/Saturn) AVP (Edge)
Misc odds n sods inc Making Of Alien Res.PS1, AVP Jaguar (Edge), bits on Aliens:C.M, AVP PC etc.
Rebellion talking AVP PSP (Edge)
AVP (Jaguar) Vs Alien Trilogy (Insane Games Mag)
But i have NO scanner.
If anyone here can scan them and get them up here, please PM me, other wise they'll go in huge (and i mean HUGE) pile of stuff to send to Unseen64 and it'll be ages before you see them.
UPDATE:
Message just in from Luca, Unseen64:
"Ciao Ross! I received your parcel today, that was huge :D
i put all the pages in a new box so they are in order and i will scan the Aliens + AVP + Predator Concrete Jungle + Timeshift between the next few days and the next weeks so you'll be able to share them :)
Thanks A LOT for these! They will be really useful"
So, The Stuff :-) should be up in next few weeks, all being well.
Thanks for keeping us posted!
I would love for a Predator game to exclusively take place in the 1930's/40's in New York. I love the idea of hunting Mob bosses as a predator in a pre war city setting. This game went way too sci-fi over the top for me.
Looking back at this game. Predator CJ is better than some of the games out today.

Brief update.
Found the official Playstation 2 magazine review.
Mere 4/10.
Slammed it for lack of polish..switching vision modes offering no real benifit, cloak was mere window dressing, camera was claustrophobic, controls akward and A.I ridiculous.
The controls were awkward as f*ck... especially when it came to actually aiming your jumps. The number of times I'd completely miss the ledge I wanted to get to and fall all the way down to street level...
The accusation that the cloak wasn't helpful seems confusingly bullshitty though.

Found the official Playstation 2 magazine review.
Mere 4/10.
Slammed it for lack of polish..switching vision modes offering no real benifit, cloak was mere window dressing, camera was claustrophobic, controls akward and A.I ridiculous.
Could we possibly get a scan or transcript of the review?
Was trying to get this to work on an emulator but had trouble with the controls. Can you actually look around on the PS2? Or you move around and the camera moves automatically?

The camera controls are garbage tbh, you can tweak them in the options though.
Controls are the game's main problem, it just unfortunately doesn't feel good despite my multiple playthroughs. I'm pretty sure the visions are broken on the emulator unfortunately- otherwise it works fine.
Maybe there would be more luck using the XBox emulator. Perhaps the graphics are a bit better as well.

The Xbox one is even worse unfortunately. I'd recommend playing it on a 360 tbh
