Sharlto Copley has worked frequently with Neill Blomkamp in the past, so I think the actor must play a role in Alien V.
A lot of us have called it as Android haha
Love me some Copley. I'm sure Neill will find him a role.

Other way around. I'm sure Copley will find himself a role that Neill will have to cast him in. As happened with Elysium. :P
QuoteWhat kind of role could play Sharlto Copley in Alien V?
Probably a Weyland Yutani Bureaucrat.
He should be there, as a human, any human, just yelling FOOKN ALIENS.
DON'T YOU POINT YOUR FOKKEN INNER JAW AT ME!!
 exactly! He should be a Hudson-type character or something like that, or someone like Wikus, a company man.
He and Leland Orser could have a panic competition.
All great comic relief ideas! This character could be the next Hudson...
I'd be curious to see him as an android, myself.
Do we know more about his role in Chappie? Is he literally just being mo-capped? Or is he doing the voice too?
I think it'd be brilliant if he played an Android. He'd fit, right in place in that role. And not a malevolent one. A clean shaven, clean cut, bishop like benevolent android would be one hell of a role to come out of Sharlto .

I like him, but I hope he's not in it. It's starting to feel more like stunt casting. "So, what zany character is Copley this time?"
No. Just no.

It's been described as a "poor-man's" mo-cap. He's there in a skintight suit interacting with the other actors, and then they essentially just animated Chappie in over him.
No voicing or anything?

Exactly what Jason Cope did for the Prawns in
District 9.

Pretty sure he's voicing. Fokken robot sounds like him.

Yeah, he's the voice as well.

Yup.
Rightio. Thanks. As long as he's good for the role he gets, I don't mind him showing up in it. No different to Biehn being in a bunch of Jim's films.

Yes, he is the voice of Chappie as well. This time he is using what is known as a "Capie" accent.
The black dude in this video has that accent:

He'll play a facehugger.
In all seriousness I hope he's in Blomkamp's Alien movie. Copley is awesome, any work he gets is good by me.
Neill should just fold it into his GTA style Kruger spinoff. *throws ninja star at queen* Pull it out bitch iss juss a flish wund!

I altered the title a bit and gave this a sticky so we can have a running thread throughout this whole process in order to compile all news/rumors/articles as we've been doing.
This. Smart. Let's hope people will use this thread correctly going forward and put opinions elsewhere.

I really hope he does end up in it. I really like Copley and he was simply wonderful in Chappie. He brought real heart to that robot.

I really don't think he can be anything other than an android. Not to insult the actor though lol. But if he ends up getting the job, I'd imagine he'd play some sort of cleaner Wikus.
I really dont want him in it, its not that hes a bad actor i just dont see him in an alien film. i think it would be a really bad idea
I like the idea of Copley being in it, my niggling doubts surround the fact he's yet to show he can play a role suitable to a horror film.
That said, he really was amazing in Chappie, so I'm sure he could pull it off.
I dunno, Kruger would be pretty scary to be around.
I think he could be good, but it would have to be a careful balance. I don't need Alien 5 to become a farce or a comical film. I have a feeling I would be waiting the whole film for him to "Fokken Aliens!" or something. An Alien film needs to take itself seriously.

As long as he's not doing a pantomime of Wikus, I think it'll be fine.

If nothing else, the guy is a chameleon. Based just on Blomkamp's films, Copley can take a huge variety of charger types and knock them out of the park.
I honestly didn't know the bloke in Elysium was this guy. Really transformed for that role or it was just smoke and mirrors but I could not tell that guy was the same guy in District 9.
Even before Blomkamp had this opportunity I thought Copley would be great in an ALIEN film. I don't think he should have the lead role but definitely a strong supporting one.
I got nothing against Copley, but he's attached to Blomkamp like Depp is to Burton, i see Copley playing some form of bad guy role as a way of shoehorning him in; but props to him for realising they'll go their seperate ways soon enough.

"Fokken Aliens!" or something. An Alien film needs to take itself seriously.
this right here
He has the Midas touch. Gotta put him in the film.
is it bad i want an actress to do the motion capture for the alien instead?
The man is a fantastic actor, he's a lot like Thomas Jane to me in the sense that I never know its him until halfway through the movie. In my mind he could play any of those roles perfectly, but after Elysium I think I'd want to see him as a Marine or Merc, if those aren't in the film though then I think scientist would fit him well.
You know he could be the new Hudson? Can you picture Copley panicky and twitchy?
not in a way that doesnt come off as annoying, Hudson/bill paxton will never be replaced
and no alien motion capture
Quote from: Perfect-Organism on Mar 12, 2015, 03:27:54 AMYou know he could be the new Hudson? Can you picture Copley panicky and twitchy?
First we're resurrecting Ripley and Hicks, now Hudson too?
Seriously people, have some originality. I don't want rip-offs of what we've already had.
I wouldn't suggest actually resurrecting Hudson. That's just crazy. But that sort of archetype makes sense for the Alien films. First we had Lambert, then Hudson, then in a way Fiefield..
I mean, the idiosyncrasies and his focus on unsubtle subtleties, if they do get him, they gotta make him the film's android character. I just see no way to take advantage of his talents better.
But we really don't know if he'll even be in the movie, anyways.
can we add a NONE option on the poll?
Quote from: Perfect-Organism on Mar 12, 2015, 02:10:39 PMI wouldn't suggest actually resurrecting Hudson. That's just crazy.
I know you weren't talking about literally resurrecting him. My point was I don't wanna see Copley, or anyone, doing a Hudson rip-off. I want this film to be its own thing instead of a slavish retread of all things
Aliens.
He should play the alien!
And the Alien should be all like,
"Hallo! My naam is Alien. Hoe gaan dit? Dit gaan goed?"
We learn that the Alien is from South Africa.
I think he fits the Alien films well... android or human haha. He could play a character type like Brett from Alien, or even a type like Aaron from Alien 3. I would love to see him on an alien movie, but only if there is a role he can fit without feeling forced.
Nahhh probably the most irritating character and actor ive ever seen
if he had to be in it be some early dude that dies super early on
He should mocap a Queen. And provide the vocalizations.
He was best as Kruger in Elysium, I think. He'd make a good marine, albeit a crazy one. The marines in Aliens all side with Ripley, but what if a marine sided with the company?
I vote for a W-Y Corporate - Android combo.
'At the moment' ;D
I want him speaking with dutch accent. 8)

Yeah. My excitement at seeing Ripley and Hicks on the big screen has nothing to do with me wanting to see a rehash of Aliens. I'd just like to see more of those characters that didn't involve face rape and support beams impaling them.
Copley should play an ICC immigration official who erroneously signed on for the mission because he thought they meant illegal aliens.
